ADT won't do anything unless you sign a contract for an installation. You can't even get a bid . I wanted to find out if my previous system which was hardwired could be re activated. In order to look for the wiring the installer tore up one of the doors, removing the bottom latch, breaking the top latch and breaking the door molding. Having determined that the hardwiring could not be reactivated, they then tried to pressure me into signing another contract for a new system. When I didn't , they left without telling me about the door damage. Since then, I've been directed for months now to one person after another in a fruitless attempt to get the damage repaired. read more

Last night at 2:00 am the wireless alarm lost contact with the tower and started beeping. The company has no fix for this problem. I would switch in a heartbeat to another company but I am too lazy, and the house has hardwired infrastructure for this type of system. If anyone has a suggestion please share. read more

It's been over three months and we still haven't received our refund because the sales associate never put in a return request that whole time! We've had to call multiple times to ask them to return our money. We were looking to get our lawyer involved. Terrible company. Glad we didn't go through with them. Was a customer for 19 years. Service just kept increasing in price with no new services or service review options. Sold building where I had service. IMPOSSIBLE to cancel. Called, gave password, address, etc and put on hold. Explained what I wanted and was disconnected. Took SEVEN connections to get a guy to cancel me. He did and when I asked to speak to a supervisor he HUNG up on me. Definitely will never use again! read more

We bought a new home in central Maine in October of 2018 and were solicited by ADT to install a security system. The costs for both the equipment and the monthly fee were shockingly high but we went ahead due to the promise of "exceptional customer service". We have had nothing but problems since the beginning, from faulty smoke detectors that would just go off in the night to countless service calls where the technician never showed up. Now when we call we know our "soonest appointment" will be at least a month out and time after time, after being stood up, they immediately say, "Well you're two hours from our home office." Is this my fault or problem? They solicited me. Avoid them if you can. No one at ADT is held accountable and you will not have an advocate when the issues begin. read more

I called the customer service number and have been on hold for 33 minutes and still holding. I attempted to call the number given on the web page to sign up for service. It was answered right away. She then sent me off to "customer service". Same number I was on hold on the other phone. If you every want to contact them for any reason forget it. How can I rate a service that I can't contact. Although I like having a security system, the cost doesn't weigh the benefit with ADT. I was quoted a price near $30 a month and when my bill came it was nearly double. I was told I got a free installation, but then was charged for the equipment a price that equals the install price. I have a 3 year contract so to get out of the contract I would have to buy it out. All in all I guess I was duped. Be very careful when dealing with this company, and check out the much better deals out there. I don't recommend doing business with ADT! read more

I am more convinced than ever that ADT is an elaborate scam to defraud people of the maximum amount of money. Shortly after I wrote my initial (also 1-star) review, ADT called to say that they were sorry for all my problems, ADT had changed, etc., and would like to offer me a special rate if I was willing to stay. I refused. They kept calling. Eventually, I was stupid enough to fall for their pitch. Before doing so, however, I verified, on a recorded line, that I would not be on any contract and could cancel at any time. I verified that again, just to make sure. Both times, the answer was "absolutely no commitment." Several months go by and ADT hits me, without any prior warning, with a 160% increase in my bill! I called to cancel the day the new bill arrived. It took me over 20 minutes to get past the verbal barriers to cancel. At the very end, the representative said that I would be receiving a final bill. I asked how much it would be for since I had already paid for the current month in advance. She replied that it would be for the difference between my old rate and the new, inflated rate. When I objected, she stated that I because I did not call to negotiate a new rate, I had to pay. I pointed out that I called the day I received any notice of the increase, which was when my bill arrived. She then said that I had agreed to a 30-day cancellation period. I asked her to show me a signed agreement or to play for me a verbal agreement. She could not, of course, since I did not agree. She then said that I remained bound by my original contract even though I cancelled that contract long ago. I cancelled it in writing (both via e-mail and via USPS) and on the phone. I never signed it again; I never signed a new agreement; I specifically stated that I would only agree to give ADT another try if they agreed that I could cancel at any time. None of that did any good. This ADT rep did not feel bound in any way by commitments made by other ADT reps. So, ADT plans to charge me without a contract for a price increase that I never approved. The only question is whether this is worth taking to small claims court. read more

ADT secures my home and I have had the service for several years. Not only does it make me feel safe, it is nice to know that I will still have a home when I return from trips or even from work. I would recommend Tina Loveless as a great person to contact for new service. She really cares about customers and their needs. She is creative and listens to make sure the system is dialed in. All I can say is stay as far away from defenders and ADT as possible. In between their long term contracts that are not straight forward and the 75% lease break fees, duplicate charges and the terrible service of the installers, this is a company to avoid. My latest issue came today in having them out to re-attach window sensors after getting new windows installed. The represenative was clearly confused on the order and promplty told me he was only gettting paid 30$ for this job and this should be a new install ( mind you I have been living in my home and using the system for months now.) Once that was straightneded out the end of the call was met with multiple staples in my 1963 original cabinets, something he agreed he should have gotten premission for prior to doing, and him geting upset when I asked him to leave the equipment I had paid for, considering after my last move I had to buy all new equipment after being told by ADT to leave it at my last home, a miscommunication that cost me hundreds. When I asked for clarification on why he was taking the back to my monitor ( again, owned by me) he cut me off and asked if I wanted to talk to his manager, that he had another call to get to and seemed to be suprosed when I was less than pleased with his response claimimg, "Wow. I just did a job for you and now this?" To make matters worse, you cannot talk to anyone to file a complaint, all you can do is write an email so I figured if I was going to have to take the time to write the email, I might as well review the comapany, something I dont often do. read more

I made mistake of signing a 3 year contract with them. Horrible horrible service and my music store was broken into 3 times and not once did they call the police. Once, after a break in, they called me at home to let me know the glass break alarm went off. I told them to call the police, then 20 minutes later, no police, so I called 911 and they sent someone out. ADT calls back and I ask why they did not dispatch the police and they said they did not know they wanted me to. It is in our contract. THen after I ditch the service and salesman calls to get me back and says, "We always call the police for a break in." Bull crap. I lost 10k because they dont call the police. Oh, yeah, and the system did not even function for nearly 16 months and they wanted to charge me to come out and fix their own system. They suck. read more

I had my ADT security system installed two months ago with the promise of a rebate. I have yet to receive the rebate. They can't seem to get their systems to cooperate and the sales rep doesn't seem too interested in helping me out. This has been nothing but frustrating. Worst customer service EVER!!! Makes Comcast and DMV seem tolerable. Had "service" for a year, haven't been able to use it yet, had 4 techs come out "different problems each time"...and the equipment is new?? Each time I call it's between 4-10 hours to try to get a tech out...or some other band-aid. Now they cancelled the tech scheduled to come out and didn't tell me, then said they would cancel my contract and I would be responsible for 75% of the next 3 years bills....for service I have never used. My experience thus far is that in the first month of service with ADT they are on top of their game for customer service; I was grateful of the service in the beginning; Remember that the first 30 days is the only time you can cancel your contract WITHOUT 75% of the rest of your signed contract. After the first 30days my bike was stolen off my back porch. (ADT doesn't protect that) & I'm definitely not paying $1,000+ to replace that. ADT agent told me the signs change every year(obviously not ), also made aware after the first 30 days that agent had quit. Awesome. ADT increased my bill without notice, they control the bill, no matter the cause, it was increased by them. I have paid my bill on time & in full every month as it's on AUTOPAY & here comes a big ol slap at the end of the year for a service fee and permit. I was told they space it out across the year, lie. I used to have a security system from this company. We had a gentleman bro just in the driveway and set an appointment for an in-home sales pitch. The salesman was very nice and he did his job well because we bought system. It only took three days before we canceled our agreement. I used ADT to monitor a vacant home outside of Centralia. The alarm was monitored by ADT by landline, but the landline connection was lost in January 2015. The ADT monitoring system was aware of the failure though their procedure is to make an automated call to the landline number to confirm the failure, but this failure does not warrant a call to the account holder. We only discovered the failure in December when we returned to WA State and the home. In other words, ADT knowingly billed me for monitoring it was not providing for 11 months. Their billing department and the "consumer relations" office have been unwilling to concede fault or that there is a significant shortcoming in their monitoring procedures. Needless to say ADT is an unethical, amateurish operation and cannot be trusted to secure your property. read more

I am told this is the largest security company in the world. Extremely amazed how that happened given the horrible customer service. Over 20+ years we had their systems in 3 different properties (2 by my choice and a 3rd one when they acquired Brinks, who I had gone to because I was unhappy with ADT and didn't want to give them any more business.) I could go on and one regarding the worst part of the company, horrible phone service, but won't. The last straw: Last July I had an issue with the only home I still had ADT in. After much confusion on the phone we finally realized 3 years prior they had "cancelled" the service on the home in question, and were in fact billing me in error for a California home I had sold in 2014! (Shame on me for not noticing the "property address" on the bill was wrong...) If I had a true emergency, I guess they would have sent emergency response folks 1,000 miles from the house in need! They then tried to get me to sign a new contract. No! (I was already in process of contracting with another company.) In August the other company's system got installed and I called ADT to tell them to cancel the system for the house they had erroneously cancelled 3 years prior. They told me I had obligations due to my July 2017 contract. NO! "You tried to get me to enter a new contract, but I didn't", I told them. They then said they'll need to send me a package to complete. The package was a Fraud affidavit they wanted me to go get notarized and provide a TON of personal information. Sorry, no! 6 months later the bills continue. When collection calls from ADT reach me, I explain the story, they apologize, tell me not to pay it, and then the bills start appearing again. Once again, this is just the last one of many horrible customer experiences I've had with the company over 20 years. Never, ever again! read more

I have never written a review like this before but cannot believe the insanity this company has put me through. you will be on hold for hours, your life will be consumed by being transferred from rep to rep, stating the same issue over and over, and yet transferred again. Its literally the most infuriating experience i have ever had with a business. I spoke with them for hours and they never told me i needed a landline for their services, the rep came out to install and said "oh, they didn't ask you if you had a land line" no never. so i canceled the account. which they admit is in their own records. yet three weeks later a person named "Dana" in scheduling made a note in the file that installation was completed on August 22nd. three weeks after I canceled the account!! now they say i own $650 for a service I canceled (which they admit) and a service i cant use, for an installation that never took place, because someone in their company "said" it did. now they say i must write a letter explaining what happened, and wont let me speak to the person who claims said installation took place three weeks after i canceled account. NEVER EVER DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO CANCEL YOUR ACCOUNT AS THEY WILL RENEW IT EVEN AFTER CANCELING IT AND THEN WILL LEAVE YOU ON PERMANENT HOLD SO YOU CAN NEVER GET THROUGH TO CANCEL AN ACCOUNT WHEN SERVICES WERE NEVER RENDERED. I am 66 years old and living in a new home in a new town (Seaside, OR) (DREAM COME TRUE!!). After living in our previous home for over 20 years with my now deceased hubby, you get used to the sounds inside n out and you don't think anything about it. Living alone for the very first time in my life and feeling quite vulnerable in a completely new environment, I would hear every sound, inside or out, day or night, and I could not get a good night's sleep and HATED feeling so vulnerable. I had been thinking about getting ADT installed but there was just so much to do after the move, there wasn't enough time in the day to do the research to vet them or any of the other gazillion security options. Finally, after another every day/every night of fear, I set up an appointment and signed up and had it installed that same day. Since that day, I have not looked back. I feel so safe and secure every minute of every day and night and sleep like a baby. In the learning process, I have accidentally set off my security alarm several times and know that if anyone gets one inch anywhere inside my home, I should probably send them a sympathy card in prison telling them that I completely understand the panic that they must have felt when they tried to get into my home because I had been through it myself. LOL I am writing this review only because I saw so many bad reviews that I had to get in there to let everyone know that, no matter what you hear or read, you have to experience it yourself to really know the truth. Terrible! Keypad is flimsy, customer service is atrocious. I called shortly after installation with a concern about my equipment. The representative was rude, offered no resolution. When I said I would consider leaving ADT, he replied "Okay" and hung up. Not friendly, did not try to work with me. My system was installed 2 weeks ago, my key FOB has stopped working. I'm told an installation technician has to come to my home to replace/repair it. I was told there was a risk free cancellation period. Turns out it is a measly 3 days. I was told 30. My bad for trusting them, should have studied the contract that was emailed to me AFTER installation. read more

I am disgusted with ADT alarm company. I purchased an alarm system in march of 2020, that cost me $1200 dollars out of pocket for all of the equipment. I have had the equipment for 9 months and I am now being told by multiple employees over the phone that my equipment is outdated and basically no good anymore. I am being told I wasted $1200 dollars on old outdated equipment. I wanted to move my equipment to my new house as I am moving, and I have been told I have to purchase all new equipment and re- sign another 3 year contract. At the time of installation I was told that if I ever moved there would be no charge to move the equipment and if the equipment ever did become outdated I would be given the newest and most recent equipment for no charge. Someone working for the company ADT is telling customers this but then it isn't being upheld by the company. I am disgusted and would not recommend this company to anyone I know. If my equipment became outdated in 9 months, why would this older equipment that is outdated be a safe setup for s customers home...? This is inexcusable. read more

I have read these reviews and am disappointed in the responses. If your rate goes up call and they will lower it. I have never had a problem with that. My system works perfectly and was installed by ADT corporate. I recently found out that adt has an employee verification site. https://www.adt.com/verify. Verify your rep to get the quality of service you would expect from the largest oldest security company. The people I have worked with at ADT are true professionals with licensed technicians installing equipment. I even had to call for a service call the other day and even though had to go through the automated system got ahold of person right away who helped trouble shoot and then schedule a tech to come out and fix the issue. read more

First off, I hate complaining. I'd much rather sing praises of a job well done than criticize, but this experience made me sign into yelp and write my first negative review. This is actually my second time using ADT. After my first experience with them in a previous house I swore I would never use them again. We had been happy with our service from Brinks, and then ADT bought them and I found myself an ADT customer once again. Our system recently malfunctioned while we were on vacation. Alarms sounded and the police were dispatched. We have had a solid month's worth of headaches (read: 3 a.m. system alerts, a false alarm, a police dispatch, convoluted customer service calls, lax scheduling, etc.), I've had my patience tested beyond reason. Service is beyond poor, we had to schedule a second trip from a technician because after waiting a week and a half for the first service call his fix didn't take. In addition, our service call was specifically scheduled for between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. -- which was made 10 days in advance because that was the next available. The appointment was confirmed. After waiting for 3.75 hours, I called ADT customer service only to be informed that the visit had been rescheduled between 12 p.m. and 5 p.m. No courtesy call about the rescheduling, by the way. We also requested a different technician for the second trip, who could troubleshoot our system with a fresh perspective and better communication skills -- nothing personal, strictly professional. At 12:55 p.m., I opened the door to the same gentleman as before. Again, no phone call or apology. Just another cogent request roundly ignored. I wish that I could say that I'm confident that the repairs are the last of what's been a comedy of errors. But I cannot. We are currently looking into canceling our service (or lack of service) once again. read more

ADT has always been a good reliable company for me and my family. We have had it for several years and have upgrades with new technology over the years; every time we need something, my rep does an amazing job. She makes us feel special and important. I think many of the reviews here are most likely 800 number purchases; perhaps they should look in to local help. We all know 800# are very impersonal so this could be a resolution if they want more hand holding (like I like and need). I chose ADT due to how big they are, how many monitoring stations they have nationally compared to their completion, the fact that all they do is security unlike companies like Comcast (who specializes in other stuff and happens to offer security as a bundle) and also the fact that the government uses them exclusively to monitor our national security in the buildings around the US. read more

When I contacted them to come out and repair a sensor and confirm all was ok w my system I was told no one could come out until the next week but I could go on a priority appointment list. Six days go by w no response from them I finally call them and I'm told I was scheduled for the day I called in but someone( not me) cancelled it and I'd have to wait another week because my request was not an emergency. I am so tired of this freaking company!!!! I called them a month ago to get things figured out at the office... The Customer Service Rep, in freaking Florida, tells me that this is a problem to be handled by my Sales Rep so I get off the phone with her and call him... He tells me he is sending an email... Man every time I have talked to him sense he is always sending that freaking email... I tell him I want it taken care of before my bill is due "Yeah no problem I'm going to handle that for you! I'm sending the email now!" Every freaking time!! Seriously.... He's in here boasting about how amazing he is and how awesome ADT is.... Like really everyone who works there is as in-informed as it gets, no one has the same answer to a question, their techs and reps blast bullshit at you to get you to buy in.. Lets not forget an $82 charge every month for brand new cameras (that we spent over $1200 on) for a protection plan) and NO monitoring... Not to mention they tell you the departure time, not arrival... So when they say 2pm what they really mean is that is when the tech will leave the office he'll actually be there in between 4:30 and 6p.... because they schedule it all the way in Florida...Like really??? read more
