Review for ADT Security I've been an ADT customer for nearly 3 years, and I've never been more frustrated with a company in my life. Trying to cancel or even get a straight answer has been worse than dealing with Comcast. One minute I'm being told there's a cancellation fee and I'm breaking a contract, the next minute someone offers me 3 months free and says I can cancel after that with no issue. Then a different rep calls saying my contract ends on a completely different date -- and suddenly, there's no record of the deal I was promised. I've spent hours on the phone going in circles, speaking to different people who all give me conflicting answers. It feels like ADT is intentionally making it impossible to cancel just to squeeze a few extra dollars out of loyal customers. Shame on you. I called and complained and they stated the contract was signed and agreed upon. The salesman knew I did not want a long-term contract. Overall will cost $5,000 over the five year term. I purchased a new home. I did not call ADT. Someone knocked on my door. I had not planned on getting a security system. I don't believe in them. I'm a retired 20 veteran in Army special forces. The first thing the man did was lie to me, in front of a friend. He said I would save $50 a month on my home insurance. He didn't say I might or I could. He said I would, turns out I saved $21 a year Second, the installer damaged my walls peeled off the paint, and drilled two holes where only one was needed for the doorbell. Less than a month after purchasing tried to cancel and they want me to pay over $1600. I was lied to, my walls damaged, and they want me to pay them $1600 never going to happen. Sue me please! Show a negative on my credit report and I will be seeing them in court. I cannot use the language I want to in this review. It would not be posted. Don't even think about getting ADT it will be a big mistake. You will regret it not for $68 a month. Yeah, spend $68 a month and save $21 a year. They jerked me around to different representatives trying to get me to keep the service and wanting to know were I was moving. They will continue to bill you afterwards because apparently it takes them 30 days to cancel your service so they have an excuse to get more money out of you. My ADT service hasn't worked for a very long time. My account was canceled and they called me to pay the past due balance and a cancellation fee. The agent told me if I paid the past due amount that they would close my account and waive the cancellation fee. After he collected my money, he sent me over to the reinstatement department. I told them that was not the deal we made. The deal we made was my account would be closed and the cancellation fee would be waived. They told me the agent lied to me. I recorded the call so I guess now I'll go to the attorney general and file lawsuit if needed. Don't trust these people they're horrible. read more

We have a ADT security system that our insurance carrier forced us to purchase in order to get our insurance renewed. The system includes home security and smoke alarms. A few nights ago, all of the fire alarms in the house (8 of them) started blaring. The noise was so loud that I could barely stand it. My dog literally almost had a heart attack he was so traumatized by the noise. I ran all over the house looking for smoke or a fire and there was nothing. ADT called me to tell me that our alarms were sounding (yeah, no duh). My wife handled the install with ADT and she set up the code to shut off the alarms but she was out of the country and not able to be reached. I begged the ADT caller to shut off the alarms remotely and she refused since I could not "verify the account." By this time, the local fireman showed up in their big fire truck. They took the phone and said they were at the house and there was no smoke or fire and could ADT please remotely turn off the alarms. Again, the ADT person refused as they could not verify the account. Finally, the fireman went around to each alarm and manually turned them off, we also unplugged the base station and took out the battery. The entire experience was traumatic, the system went off for no reason, I ended up with a splitting headache and I am sure my hearing is now permanently damaged from the noise, my dog took days to voluntarily enter the house without me pulling him in. I cannot stress more how unhelpful ADT was and I would never, ever recommend their service to anyone. They obviously have some commission deal worked out with insurance companies who get some sort of compensation for making homeowners purchase ADT in order to get insurance. I bought a very simple security system from ADT at the beginning of January: 2 cameras and a garage alarm. By March, my alarm was "going offline" by itself during the night on a regular basis. After several calls to ADT, in which they said my Wi-Fi speed wasn't fast enough to support the system, I then had to spend another 2 hours on the phone with my Wi-Fi provider. In the end, ADT said my Wi-Fi speed wasn't fast enough to support the ADT system. First of all, why wasn't this brought up when the salesperson/technician first came to my house? Second, WHY did take 3 months "to be too slow?". It was suggested by ADT that my Wi-Fi equipment was too old. They also said that even if I didn't arm the alarm every night, the battery would continue to deplete. So I then had to go any physically exchange my router, to the tune of over double my Wi-Fi bill per month. Next, part way into April, I started receiving email saying that ADT showed there was a low battery in the motion sensor in my garage. AGAIN, multiple calls to ADT troubleshooting, during which time ADT insisted I had experienced a power outage, made me manually take apart the base unit, tried to force me to climb a ladder to fix it myself, and then said that despite my enhanced service plan, I would need to pay $99 to have a tech come fix it. They claimed they could not make an appointment at that time, and that someone from scheduling would call me, by the next day. No one ever called. I called back and went through the same rigamorol, except this time they said I would have to pay $160 to have a tech come out. Meanwhile, the "battery sensor" showing the battery was bad has turned itself off and back on twice in the last 24 hours. How is that possible, if it's the battery? When I asked about terminating my 3-1/2 month contract, I was told I would have to pay over $3K (supposedly 75% of the equipment cost). I actually believe that is more than the value originally listed on my contract, which I finally found (nothing on paper from ADT). I believe that this once- reputable company has become a predatory company. I just purchased a new home and the previous owner had a ADT alarm system installed. A very aggressive salesperson just stopped by to try to get me to purchase a package but I refused. Then all of a sudden the alarm keeps going off in the middle of the.night. I spent over an hour on the phone begging them to either disarm the alarm for good or to come and take out the alarm. Apparently I would need to be a customer before they can send a technician out. I got it to temporarily stop but it keeps going off. It wakes up my elderly mother and she can't get back to sleep. She is beside herself and doesn't understand why we can't just turn it off. The agent I spoke with just ended up telling me she could not help me then she hung up on me. Very rude agent . ADT sent a tech to our house to install a smart thermostat. Their tech removed our old thermostat and took it with him. The thermostat he installed couldn't be hooked up to our house correctly because there was no "C-wire" line. He didn't tell us that. Instead he just installed it with batteries and didn't bother to tell us that he couldn't actually install the thermostat. A few days later the batteries died and with some google research we determined that the unit hadn't been installed correctly. We are going on a month now of talking to more than half a dozen people and getting zero help from ADT to fix this mess they created. No one there is willing to own this and ADT is not willing to do anything to make us whole. They don't know what they did with the old unit, they refuse to purchase and install an equivalent unit, and they offered us a $45 credit for the unit they pretended to install. I wish I had seen the endless one star reviews before doing business with them. Their field techs and service reps all seem frightened or angry and their management seems like they are riding their paychecks until someone realizes they are incompetent and they move on to their next job. I'm a general contractor and was hired by a local family to repair a water intrusion problem in their wall. It was discovered the ADT installer drilled not once, but twice, into a waste water line causing over $4,000 of water damage to the home. The company tried to deny it was their responsibility but a photo clearly shows evidence of their installers incompetence. I say incompetent as after drilling through siding and sheathing there was gap and they should have stopped drilling, but kept going way deeper than is appropriate or necessary. If that wasn't enough, they tried again, but at a 45 degree angle, and went through the pipe again. As for being paid, it's been weeks since I've completed the repairs and I have yet to have a call returned on settling the bill. My professional opinion is to use any other service than ADT. read more

We have two dental offices . We chose ADT from a myriad of choices out there based upon size, name recognition, etc. big mistake. The alarm system itself is fine, works as advertised, but if you ever need service, forget about that. I've spent hours upon hours on the phone trying to reach tech support. I finally reached out to sales to try and get help. They sent a guy out who arrived as arranged but quit the next week so I had to go through the same process again w a new guy. Now this new guy has ghosted out. Can't get a return call, even considering I've been quoted over $5k to get our system upgraded. Honestly, I set up Ring at my home, and May simply do that for the business. This is ridiculous. If we treated our patients like this, we wouldn't be in business. read more

Came to find out the so-called 'contract' I signed didn't give me any benefit such as locking in a price, only they rec'd the benefit - locking me in for three years while they continuously raised the monthly rate. Complained - to no avail - asked why I'm being charged for services I don't use as their 'additions/improvements' only involved the use of cell phones - which I do not use. Had one issue all the years I used them involving a fire in my oven - they contacted me through the keypad three times - three times I asked them NOT to contact the fire department. They did anyway wasting the department's time and resources. You get no answers/explanations from them - only one-way communication. BTW, they charged me #45 for a 9-volt battery before telling me to be prepared to pay for it while I have two brand new ones vacationing in my battery collection drawer. Couldn't get them to refund the money. $45 - really? Then, come to find out after discussing canceling my contract, that if I don't call to cancel exactly on the 30th day from the cancellation date, I'd be charged $200. REALLY? If I could give this company a -5 I would, the company Protection One now ADT. I have been a customer for over 13 years. Four months ago we had cameras installed which have lead to nothing but problems. We spent over $1800 only to have undependable equipment. Every time a Tech came out our internet was the blame so at the advice of the Techs we spent another $200 to boast our WiFi only to have the same problem with the equipment. The cameras go down randomly sometimes they come back up sometimes they do not. We have had an theft will camera were down and all the company says is sorry about that. So after 13 years of being a customer I go to cancel only to be told that will cost me another $750. Customer service means nothing to this company neither does the safety of their clients. Only the all mighty dollar is important to them. Caution, don't use ADT or their sub contractor Safe Haven under any circumstances in Oregon. What is promised as part of the contract is not what they provide and install. I was told my smart thermostat would be a google nest and it is older alarm.com model. ADT in Oregon requires you to hire an outside electrician to install their thermostat and mine continues to not work properly. ADT or Safe Haven doesn't tell you that you must hire your own electrician to install the thermostat so you spend an additional $150 or $200 for installation. Now I'm spending an additional $200 in an attempt to fix or identify the problem. The security camera they offer does not have a motion sensor like ring and doesn't work at night so it's basically useless. On top of all the smoke and mirrors from ADT Safe Haven, the service is terrible and you are locked into a three year contract and inferior equipment with no recourse. I wish I would have done better due diligence and now I'm stuck and have serious buyers remorse. read more

I called to have a scheduled an appointment for a technician to service my alarm system. I was put on hold for over two hours, transferred over to seven individuals, and I got so frustrated that I had to drop the call. I think ADT has become so big that they don't care about customer service. The reps are not clear spoken on the phone, they barely know who to send me to, and they are very impatient. I don't think they want me as a customer. I was with Protection1 for over ten years and I never experienced this kind of treatment. l think this is the right time to leave . Not straight forward about contracts. We had service for about a year, and are needing to move for work. We knew we were only going to be here for a year or two. Had the rep said there was a 3 year contract, we would not have signed up. When I called to tell ADT that we were not made aware of the contract, they sent me a fraud document to sign. I didn't record the conversation with the rep, nor do I want to get the rep in trouble. Will not work with ADT again. It's good to see I'm not the only one feeling like their contracts are not communicated. I met with the sales person from ADT in mid July. A contract was sent within the week. I responded with several questions but never heard back. I reached out and contacted ADT and was told the following: 1. We cannot talk to you unless you have an account number (I couldn't get an account number because I don't have an account yet!) 2. One person told me that my phone number is not recognized but another person told me that was the phone number they had on record. 3. The sales person that I originally spoke with emailed me and said he hadn't been able to call me because I am on their 'do not call' list. What a strange excuse. 4. A supposed supervisor reached out to me and left their phone number. When I called back several times, he wasn't able to talk because he 'was busy. I left messages and, of course, he never called back. Summary? It's hard to rate an entire company based only on their sales performance and their corporate customer care. Except in this casep! Updated review: after posting our initial review below, ADT contacted us and made it all right/good. They replaced all the equipment to ADT equipment and the cameras are soooo much better. They sent two experienced techs out who spent 8 straight hours (no breaks) fixing everything and brought all the wiring up to code. Could not be happier! Bravo, ADT, for doing the right thing! The techs were super knowledgeable and professional and friendly. They explained everything in "normal-people-speak". A++ Initial review: ADT is the WORST EVER!!! we called ADT using their 1-800 number. They contracted the work out to a local vendor who installed non-ADT equipment that only works sometimes... and then they refuse the replace it for actual ADT equipment! Received a call from the Customer Relations Administrator in the CEO's office who confirmed that it is ADT's policy to neither require nor inquire of their employees whether they have been vaccinated. A "don't ask, don't tell" policy it seems. Maybe the tech they will assign to install the mandatory update to our system will be more forthcoming. If not, I'll have no choice but to search for a new provider who understands public safety. They are the worst, they came to do a up grade what it actually was a down grade. The new key pad is cheap, it lights up my front room( which I have a small home and the light keeps me a wake) when you set the alarm my neighborhood nows when i leave or come home it is so load, the contacts falls off the door when the door is slammed, then there's the part where they needed to add another plug in thing well I needed that plug in for some else so they had me use a power strip so that I could plug my other thing in and they could plug their other thing in then they had a wire going from the wall socket thing to the other thing in the power strip it looks so freaking tacky this whole upgrade has actually been unprofessionally done in my opinion. read more

We recently had an alarm installed by ADT on our home in Portland -- August 2019. (Installation was by ADT directly, not a third-party installer.) While our experience with the company is limited because we are new customers, we are writing to commend our friendly, knowledgeable, and professional ADT District Sales Representative Lisa Kearns. She has been wonderful! She listened to our security needs carefully and thoroughly, and patiently and promptly answered our many questions. When we had a little glitch with our alarm touchpad (the SIM card needed to be changed from AT&T to Verizon), she made sure the situation was rectified right away. The tech, Jose Casto, who came to repair the touchpad has been with the company for many years and was very knowledgeable and friendly. We have been very impressed with ADT thus far! read more
