Food is decent, but way over-priced. Wine selection is minimal. Service was over-bearing. Please, wait staff, do NOT remove plates until everyone is finished eating! I must have had three different people ask, "are you finished? Can I take your plate." NO, I'm not finished! And at these prices I expect cloth, not paper, napkins. Coffee was served in a handle-less mug. I had to wrap my (paper) napkin around it to be able to pick it up. Seats (both chairs and benches) are painfully uncomfortable. Fun new place. Great addition to the area. Went on a Saturday night and sat at bar. Cute decor. Love watching the Irvington area grow. We're not full time living in the NNK, but family has a weekend house for about 15 years. Good food: Halibut special was delicious and worth every penny. We also had the potato leek vichyssoise, which tasted like liquid baked potato deliciousness. We would return for that soup some. Food improvement: Shrimp and grits could use more than four shrimp/bigger shrimp for the price. Grits are fluffy. The sauce was the best part. Shrimp and grits are a common dish in the area and other places serve it the same for half the price. Overall expensive for the area. Average dinner entree price is ~$25. The alcohol prices are even slightly higher than DC. Great place for a special occasions. read more

Amazing service. We didn't have a rez so went early and sat at the bar. We had the Barrata salad and the grilled romaine with the fresh bread on the side and wow! We lost our way with Covid, but rediscovered the little gem of the Northern Neck, Adrift. Sometimes you get something to eat somewhere, and it's simply the best you've ever had. Tuna Nicoise, with who knows what, and tomato jam on top. I feel privileged again. read more

We had wanted to try aDrift for all the reasons the other reviewers stated. Since they have limited dinner options that change often, it was important for us (a party of four) to know what was being served on Thursday, November 29. My wife called and left a message over a week before, on November 21, and said that we would like to come on the 29th or 30th, and would appreciate a call back to discuss the menu. Having heard nothing by the beginning of the following week, I called and left another message, and my wife sent an email, again stating our hope that a party of 4 could come for dinner on the 29th, but we would like to know what was being served. NO response. By Wednesday the 28th, having heard nothing, my wife wrote another email expressing our disappointment, and then made reservations at another establishment, which did answer their phone and discussed the menu. So, apparently the owners of aDrift are quite happy to rest on their good reviews and do not feel the need to answer potential customers who phoned twice and emailed twice. Since we are local residents, this seems very shortsighted and very disappointing. It has left a bad taste in our mouths. read more

There is not enough good to say about this restaurant. My girlfriend and I came down to the area from northern Maryland. We have never been here before, but we felt at home at Adrift. The cocktails were incredible, the food was superb (NY strip for me and the chicken for my girlfriend), and the service was out of this world. My girlfriend and I were celebrating our anniversary. They sat us at a two top beside the bar. It took 25 minutes to get my first drink, what ended up being roughly half the time we were allowed to be there. Then it took so long to get the next drink that I asked them to go ahead and order the next. At the two hour mark our waiter had to sheepishly ask us to leave. He apologized the whole way out. He said they had another couple waiting for our table, although I was spending a hundred dollars per hour. We left there and stopped by The Sand Piper. I told around the bar about the experience. Everyone was shocked. They bought us a drink. Decent food, same with the atmosphere. But not good enough for this. Either they will learn, or they will find themselves wishing people wanted to stick around and spend more money, to help them pay their bills. read more

Excellent three course dinner, a "culinary experience", at the Adrift in White Stone, VA on July 21, 2018: Owners are Kati & Chef Devin I'm sure I'm missing a few things and the spelling of a few items isn't correct. With the exception of the bread obtained from Sub Rosa Bakery, a bakery in Richmond, VA that utilizes a wood fired oven, everything else was locally sourced and is changed based on availability and season. We had: a raw Rappahannock River oyster from the White Stone oyster Co. on the half shell with sea gelatin, a smoked asian & petrified spice and seaweed, showcased on a scolloped rice filled shell to balance the half shell; excellent presentation! Goat cheese infused basil oil, heirloom tomatoes and fried chard. Einkorn sour dough bread w/side butter sprinkled with coarse sea or kosher salt. Line caught Cobia w/hollandaise sauce and fried capers; warm pureed zucchini, green bean & red pepper salad. Milk cake w/whipped chanteel cream, blueberries and warm maple syrup. A taste of heaven. Everything from cocktails to appetizers to entrees was delicious. We had the New York strip with a luscious black garlic sauce. After a mix up a week ago over reservations we decided to give Adrift another shot and made reservations for dinner. After being seated the chef owner came over with complimentary oysters and apologized for the confusion on the earlier reservations. I had to order the bread because if someone is charging 5 bucks for bread, I need to try it. This is not a dig on the bread, but I would not get that one again. Now for the good stuff. The baked oysters were cooked perfectly and very tasty. The fried oysters Tostadas were cooked perfectly and the slaw with them was great. Pictured is the soft shell crab with grits. No it's not as good as it looks, it's better and I think it looks pretty darn good. Overall this is a welcome site to the Northern Neck and we will be back. 4 and a half stars. That is an awesome review because 5 stars is hard to come by with me, only because I always want leave room for improvement. read more

We visited the restaurant last evening,with our good friends. We all were unpleasantly surprised at service And food was not that good for such a high bill. If we weren't so hungry three out of four of us would have sent our meals back. The service was not good as is understandable with COVID. The bread was good but there was a charge for it. We were excited to bring our friends as they are new to the area. We thought the prices were justified on our previous trip, not this time. We noticed what seemed to be friends of the owners eating what was not on our menu on the way out. Yes this is COVID. If I need to use it to justify bad service and bad food, so should the restaurant. It was not reflected in there prices. read more

Adrift is a fine concept and a welcome addition to the small town of White Stone's culinary scene. The execution leaves something to be desired, though. Let's start with the service. The nice young woman who waited on us was not the professional server one would expect at these prices. She just kept interrupting us. My party was there to discuss business and I kept losing my train of thought because at critical points in the conversation, she would just jump in. Experienced servers know to wait for a pause. The food was ok. The potato bowl appetizer was a bit of a mystery...the menu made it sound wonderful, and our server really played it up, but it was really just a series of small baked potatoes in white sauce. My fried chicken sandwich was not an improvement. It was so coated with sauce that, after finding my hands covered in the stuff, I gave up and pulled the chicken out. I wiped off the sauce in which it was swimming, and ate the chicken. This was quite good, once I had rescued it from the bun and sauce. Worth a visit back to see if they can shake off some of their growing pains. read more

Amazing! Ribeye was life changing, Margaritas are spot on!! We also had the buffalo shrimp app which were good, the bib salad, and the breaded chicken wings (which were good, just not what I expected). The staff was also very accommodating, and pleasant! We almost went to a different spot as we thought from the pictures it was more formal than we were looking for, I can pleasantly say it was a perfect combination of causal-formal. My husband and I and our friends visited Adrift on Saturday,September 8th for our anniversary! What an experience! The owners and the staff are very customer service focused and it makes all the difference in whether we will be returning! Here's an example. Our friend is diabetic and could not drink regular coke. They did not carry diet- but told her they'd make it work. 2 minutes later they had diet coke. Will we return- absolutely, when we visit the northern neck area next year.
