Beware! Extremely rude staff and very poor food. We complained about the small portion of flounder and the tasteless rice that was at least a day or more old. The Dredge is a nice dinner spot offering indoor and outdoor seating in a modern pub meets sit down restaurant feel. The service is good and staff were all very friendly. Food wise, this restaurant offers a serious seafood steamer feast and we did not miss out! We went with snow crab and shrimp. Cooked just right and cleaned well. We also ordered scallops served on the half shell - Thai chili style. A little bit of a let down as they were slightly overcooked. The chili is quite hot and I like spicy food so it was good with me but too much heat for others at the table. If a good amount of heat is not your thing definitely order the scallops basil style. We are not oyster fans but if you are oysters are a specialty of the house. For sides we had fries and hush puppies. Fries were very good, and the hush puppies were outstanding. Whole pieces of corn inside and cooked to a perfect crunch on the outside I would highly recommend these. We finished off our meal with fried plantains for desert, served with chocolate sauce and whipped cream. A fantastic steamer meal. There is a lot of menu to explore here and entrees seemed to lean toward seafood Mexican style dishes including tacos, burritos, etc. For drinks, the restaurant offers a good selection of beers on tap, wines and a full bar. The absolute rudest most arrogant owners I have ever experienced in my life! I had guests staying with us for New Year's Eve and wanted to find someplace different to take them . I checked around and found the Dredge Facebook page. They had a set menu for NYE with no prices posted. I asked, Prices please? And the response was unbelievable. They continued to edit the answers to my question and then deleted the thread and blocked me. Do yourself a favor and skip this place. Really cute, lively spot in downtown Irvington! I got amazing fried oyster tacos with a side of tots and my god was it good! I'm currently on a dirty martini kick and so far this is the best one I've had in the northern neck. Our waitress Reba was also a major highlight of the evening! She was so kind and attentive! Came for dinner and was quickly seated. Lots of group seating as well as tables and booths in the back. Definitely off season as there was a lot of open space that is likely filled during season. First off, this is a bar. And as a result, it was bar food. Not that it's a bad thing, but I think it's a misnomer to call it a restaurant that serves alcohol. It's the other way and the food is limited to quick, bar foods. It was tasty, but the variety is definitely limited. Started with the rum punch and fried oysters. Would highly recommend both. Then went with the fish tacos which were again good, but was hoping to get some more substantial food. Finished off with a micro slice of key lime pie. Tasted really good! What a huge disappointment. We actually felt like we were in an episode of Gordon Ramsey's "Kitchen Nightmares." We were staying at The Tides Inn and looked forward to getting local oysters and seafood off-property. However, coming here was a massive mistake. We love raw oysters. The owners of this place should be absolutely ashamed of how they are serving something that should be an easy item to do well - you don't even have it cook it. We were presented with a dozen warm, dried out oysters sitting on a handful of rock salt. No ice underneath to keep them chilled, no oyster brine in the shell. When we asked, our server admitted that the kitchen pre-shucks their oysters and then just leaves them out in the "100 degree" kitchen until someone orders them. I ordered the fried shrimp platter and received overcooked, rubbery shrimp; edible, but not very tasty pimento mac and cheese; and collard greens that were too salty to eat. However, my husband's crab cake sandwich was decent. One star for the crab cake and one for the service, which was wonderful. It is a small town with only a few restaurants - what a shame that this one is so terrible. read more

If you are a foodie like me, you have a "sleeper." You know, a place that you love that is a go to, that is not on everyone's radar. My sleeper is Dredge. Possibly it is the unassuming entrance, that is easy to miss when driving by, or that you can't tell they are open, even when they are packed as there are no windows to peer in. Regardless, trust me as it will be worth the effort to find them. What will greet you if you do is a seafood restaurant that is setting itself apart from the crowd, with an inventive menu that draws on both locally sourced seafood and produce, as well as the latest catches from Alaska and Canada, presented in a setting that immediately impresses with a welcoming staff, a full bar, and a decor that captures attention. It doesn't make a difference if you come alone, you're on a date, a family, or part of a large group, their seating capability (the best in the County) can handle anything, with a seat at the bar, true hightops for four, booths and out of the way tables to be alone, and side rooms for groups and overflow so that you will never be turned away even on a busy Friday/Saturday night without a reservation. In short, they have you covered. But the star of the show is the food, that quite simply never disappoints. Bryan (ala Bryan & Nicole, owners), who runs the back of the house, and is a talented cook, produces such things as Atlantic Char that melts in your mouth, yet has a delicate crust that takes the fish from tasty to savory. Or order a bowl of seafood gumbo, and be blown away with how he can get the shrimp in it just so (no small feat), that is neither undercooked and tough or rubbery from overcooking. And for the Chesapeake sailors in the crowd, their crabcakes MD style (ala Nicole who runs an efficient and well staffed front of the house) is the best of the bay right now in my opinion, which had me remembering those broiled baseball cakes that they used to serve up in Crisfield of yore. Fill around these platings with sides such as pimento mac & cheese, tatertots (yes, they are on the menu and making a comeback!), hushpuppies that are both sweet and crunchy, and a vegetable or two in season, and you walk away not just full but satisfied. We were there on Saturday, 8/23/25, and were told as soon as we entered that due to the recent Hurricane Erin, which passed hundreds of miles offshore, no fresh oysters were available. This surprised us, as we had enjoyed fresh oysters at two other local restaurants on the previous two days. We also had fresh oysters the following night at another place. We asked two local chefs if the hurricane caused any oyster supply problems. They both said no. We told them what we had been told by Dredge, and they told us that "we all get them from the same place, so we don't know what they were talking about." So, we were very confused. In any event, we stayed and I got the special, which was catfish. It was mediocre. I had it grilled in tacos, and my teeth couldn't bite through it cleanly. We asked for water three times before it was finally brought to us. The waitress got our simple order wrong. Other than that, I'd love to write a great review, but that wouldn't be the truth. I would like to know what the oyster issue was, though. I feel as if we weren't told the truth. Oh, Yelp is telling me to add something about the ambiance. The bartender yelled the whole time. She seems sweet. But the constant yelling didn't make the ambiance very comfortable. Sorry, Dredge. You seem like nice people. Maybe we caught you on a bad night. We all have bad nights. read more

The Dredge occupies a unique place on the Northern Neck. Perhaps its only true pub. We have cruised on our sailboat most of the east coast and the eastern Caribbean down to Venezuela and return. Also lived in Annapolis most of my life. To say I understand what a good pub is all about. This is a good pub!. The Dredge has become our go-to dinner spot. This is the only proper "pub-style" bar and food place in the area. Bar is full stocked and bar keepers know their stuff. Cuisine is a mix of Caribbean and local seafood dishes. and a few surprises for Northern Neck. Try the Cuban pork dishes! Portions are large and tasty. Service is pleasant. There really aren't too many restaurants around since it is a fairly small town but we noticed the good reviews online and decided to take a chance. Everything was absolutely delicious. My fiancée ordered a half dozen raw oysters to start out with and he loved them. I ordered the Irvington Rum Punch which was tasty. We then ordered the loaded tots to share and since it was Tuesday we decided to try the 2 dollar off taco special. I opted for the fried oyster tacos and he chose the mahi mahi tacos. The tots were outstanding and the oyster tacos were honestly some of the best I have had. I come down to the White Stone and Irvington area a couple of times a year with my girlfriend's family. Each time we go to a new restaurant, some have been hits and some have been misses. Out of all the ones I have been to, this is THE BEST so far. The service was immaculate, refills were often and the waitress was very respectable and contained a lot of knowledge about the menu. The food was hot and delivered relatively quickly for a busy Friday dinner. To start it off, we got the seared scallops and tater tot nachos. The scallops and the lime sauce it came with were to die for. We even ordered more of the sauce to dip some fries into. Next we got the Tater Tot Nachos, those were a table favorite, the tater tots were cooked to perfection. They had a nice crispy golden brown outside, filled with a fluffy and delightful inside. They did have a little spice to it, specifically the Jalapeño and Pork. The cheese was fresh and had a nice cheese pull. The Mahi tacos my girlfriend got had a lot of great flavor. It had a fresh citrus flavor from the salsa and onions on a soft flour tortilla, only thing I wish is that it had more filling but that's it. Presentation- wise, this was the best thing ordered. She also got a Caesar salad and there's nothing much to say about it. I will say that there was a good amount of croutons on it, which I appreciate as a crouton lover. Most places give you three or four and call it a day. I got the Rasta Pasta which was decent. Compared to everything else on the table, I think I made the worst choice but it was still good. The portions was generous but the flavor was just not for me. I still ate most of it but the peppery spice was a little overwhelming. The chicken was very well cooked and almost melted in my mouth. There was an absurd amount of veggies though. I wish they had added some more pasta or chicken instead. Overall I liked the dish and would recommend to anyone in the mood for a healthier option. My girlfriend and I also shared the Pimento Mac and Cheese. That was the best thing on the table in my opinion. It was creamy and super cheesy. I couldn't really taste the pimento part but it was still super good. The portion was also really good for a side. Her dad got the Jambalya. This dish is very spicy so watch out. The kielbasa was super spicy but also cooked very well. The chicken was alright and the shrimp was amazing. The portion on this dish is also excellent. Just know they aren't kidding on the menu when they say 'very spicy'! Lastly, her mom ordered the Mahi sandwich. Everything from the bun, the sauce and the fish itself was amazing. It was also loaded with fish and complimented very well with the fresh vegetables. The fries were not very crispy but more of a steak fry. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a family friendly dinner. Everything from top to bottom was great about this restaurant. I will for sure be back soon! read more

We have known Brian, the owner, for years but it was our first time going to his restaurant. The oysters where excellent. My go to in the area are the Old Salt oysters if I am eating them raw. This was a fantastic unassuming restaurant that I would 100% visit again. They have Caribbean influence that was clear throughout the food and the ambience of the restaurant. I started with the Mac and cheese and it was incredible and creamy. I could have eaten a huge bowl of it. I also ordered the rum punch and it was delicious. It could have used a little more alcohol, but overall a solid drink. For my main meal, I ordered the burger special and it was soo juicy and well made. The fries were also delicious and crispy. The burger overall was simple, but really well made and so filling. Man oh man, what a disappointment. This was bar food at its worst. My wife had fish tacos, which contained the measliest pieces of fish in both of the two tacos. They should be embarrassed by how small the pieces of fish were. Think McDonald's filet-o-fish, slice that in half the long/wide way, and then cut one of those halves in three; one of those pieces was in each taco. I had the Korean BBQ spring rolls, and who knows what the heck were in them, but they were pretty bad. I also had the Tater tot nachos, and they were bland, had some ground meat thrown around the plate, and had some shredded cheese on top that was barely melted. How the heck do you screw up tots?!?! The staff were just going through the motions, and I don't know what the chef was thinking...maybe he wasn't. If we should ever be in Irvington again, we'll skip this place. read more

A very creative number of dishes were available. The place was clean and well-tended. There is outdoor and indoor seating, and we chose the latter. Our wait staff was prompt, amiable, and her face was covered, as expected. My dining partner had the grouper platter with black beans, white rice, and pico de Gallo. She ate it with gusto, saying all was delicious. I had the clams over pasta, topped with Parmesan cheese, sopracetta, herbs, and a delicious garlicky clam broth. No fishy taste except for where I wanted it to be. My plate was devoured with me wanting more. But the serving sizes were right. The margaritas were a bit bitter for my taste, necessitating some sugar. The bill was a bit high, considering $12 margaritas and the clam dish wasn't on the printed menu, so I have no idea what that cost. But, being my birthday, I really didn't care too much. With tax and tip, it was close to $100 for two entrees and two drinks. I understand times have changed, but if meals aren't affordable, then fewer diners will be eating out. Great local place to eat! The food was really good. I love finding these types of local places. Great ambiance, great food, the restaurant was very nice and clean. The fresh, fried oysters were awesome! The Korean bbq spring rolls were awesome. The fish tacos were really good, though they dont come with a side, so just be prepared for that. Though, not having the side made sure that i had room left for the blackberry cobbler over ice cream for dessert! We would definitely come back if we are in town again.
