While staying at the Tides Inn this week, we ate lunch at the Fish Hawk Oyster bar on two different occasions. One was inside. The service was slow and the food was fine. We ordered a half dozen raw oysters and a beet salad to share. We were unaware (partially due to not educating ourselves) that the oysters are "river" oysters and not in a salty brine(like an ocean oyster). I would think since the Inn prides itself on the oysters, the wait staff would inform. It would not have changed my mind- I would order anyhow but would be nice to know. The flies are a little out of control inside in my opinion but again would not stop me from eating there but should be handled. The second day we ordered food at the pool. Again service was slow. We ordered the oysters again with a side of French fries and fruit. My husband ordered a beer which was not brought out for quite some time(after I had to remind two ppl - after our food was brought out) . My fiance and I use to frequent Fish Hawk for lunch after a morning on the water. Yesterday, we decided to stop in for our first time this summer. As we arrived, getting ready to dock, we had an employee approach us asking if we were stopping by Fish Hawk. We responded yes and then she asked if we were ok with the $20 2 hour parking fee. What?!?! Yes, The Tides Inn is now charging non guests $20 to dock their boat for 2 hours while you stop in to spend money at their establishment. We left and will not be returning. read more

Casual place located on beach next to pool and boardwalk. Location is great. They have tables inside, next to pool and down on beach there are picnic tables with benches and umbrellas - so plenty of seating options. Servers also come to the beach and offer drinks and food so that very convenient. Drinks are just okay, they're refreshing but quite watered down. As for food we tried fried oysters and broiled Thai chili oysters. While fried were pretty good broiled were nothing to remember - they were small with not much flavor. We also ordered fish tacos but they never arrived. Service was the biggest reason I gave 3 stars. First we asked server passing our table if she can take our order or should I go inside to order to which she told me easiest and quickest would be if I go inside. Ok no problem so I went inside and there I was informed by nice lady in black dress to go back to our table and server will be right there. Ok so I went back and here comes same girl now not very happy bringing us our menus. We order drinks and food. Drinks come we ask for straws and water. Food comes and when we saw portions are not really that big we add fish tacos. No straws yet! 15,20min pass no straws, no water, no fish tacos! We finish our food, our waitress comes and brings water and straws that we do not need anymore lol we wait for our tacos that never came so I get up and go inside to cancel and settle the check! Lady in black dress apologize and goes to see what happened with those tacos but I never hear back from her. A poolside restaurant at the Tides Inn. And more affordable and laid back. Very casual with a beachy vibe. They have live music on weekends.....they had a great duo when we were there on Saturday. Everyone was friendly. We were there a couple of times but Saturday afternoon is when we had some food and drinks. Abby took wonderful care of us and we were never without a drink. I ordered the Ceviche and my friend got the shrimp cocktail. The shrimp were huge and the cocktail sauce was delicious!!!! I loved the presentation of the ceviche but it lacked a little flavor. Maybe some cilantro and lime and or lemon juice. And it came with corn chips which I felt overpowered the delicate Ceviche. I think some homemade won ton crackers would have been lighter and better. Or perhaps another lighter cracker that didn't overpower. They do close at 9 pm....it's not a late night restaurant. And I believe that you can eat here even if you are not staying at the hotel. I hate to give the Fish Hawk a bad review. The setting is perfectly beautiful and the casual nature of the place is very inviting. Plus it is part of the Tides Inn that I absolutely love - how the Tides Inn can tolerate this bad restaurant being part of its offering is beyond me. But my experience at the Fish Hawk was so bad that I will never go back much less spend any money on this place. The management of Fish Hawk is abysmal. When we entered the restaurant, nobody, repeat, nobody even looked in our direction. We had to ask at the bar where to sit. Okay, so we sat. Then we waited a LONG time - like 15 minutes - before anyone came over to say anything. AND THIS PERSON DID NOT EVEN BRING MENUS OR GLASSES OF WATER!!!! They did not clean off the table until we asked. They left trash and dirty glasses in front of us. The food was likewise bad. I had something called Chilaquiles. Basically some sort of shrimp nachos. TERRIBLE! There were 5 shrimp, small little bitty shrimp. And the nacho chips were all moist and soft. My spouse's crab cake looked like cat food and he says it tasted really bad. If there had been any other place to go for food, we would have left! The one bright spot was server Wandille. She was pleasant and polite. But the Fish Hawk is not worthy of the Tides Inn and it is not worthy of another try! I do not recommend Fish Hawk at all! read more

Location is at the Tides Inn pool side services. Situated on the waterfront with views you would fall in love with. The food was good we just ordered oysters and crab cake sandwich. I was disappointed that they only had one type of oysters that day. The service will be something I would never forget! We sat at the bar and Brian was our bartender. He was engaging, fun and so accommodating. My husband had mentioned movie trivia's and I guess Brian overheard and turned the tv to movie trivia's and we sat there for the longest time having a blast. Other customers stopped by to order food/drinks and even joined in. Like I said this was an epic experience and it was all thanks to Brian. Thank you so much, we so enjoyed it! Brought many boats here for years. Each time it seems to be another notch above. Came here to relax by the pool after running North from Virginia Beach. Sat by the pool and decided to have lunch at the pool deck. Ordered the Fish and Chips and it was fantastic! The servers were great and very attentive to you. This is the beach front/poolside restaurant at The Tides Inn. We enjoyed our first drinks and snacks there when we had arrived early & were waiting for our room to be ready. The Lancaster Lemonades are great. We shared an order if guacamole, chips,& salsa. We chose to sit inside then because of the heat. The place has very cheerful decor, and the service was very good. The next day, we enjoyed drinks by the pool. They bring the drinks out to your lounge or cabana. I had an Aperol Spritz and my husband enjoyed the Berry Smoothie. Thanksgiving at the Tides inn. Dinner will be in the Chesapeake Room. Lunch was at Fish Hawk. Our Cove burgers were delicious -perfectly cooked on a brioche bun. One thing that brings it over the top is the bacon jam! The right balance of sweet and top grade beef. read more

I dont understand any of the reviews under 4 stars. I feel like I ate at a different restaurant! The staff was incredibly friendly as we stat outside on a gorgeous Sunday afternoon. We had just arrived at the Tides Inn for a stay and our room wasnt quite ready so we walked down to the Fish Hawk for lunch. Based on some of the reviews here on help we were wary but after a 3 hour drive we were starved and decided to chance it. Oysters and fried pickles were TO DIE FOR. The fried pickles come with pickle chips and spears. I typically steer away from pickle spears because they get soggy but these I actually preferred over the chips. They were so good we asked what kind of pickles they were so we can try and find them on our own. I consider myself a bit of a pickle aficionado and these were divine. For entrees I got the crab cake blt sandwich which was the best crab cake I have had in years. I inhaled it too fast to take a picture. I am from Maryland and this was just perfect. Hardly any breading and perfect seasoning. I had just eaten one at a fancy restaurant in DC 2 weeks prior that didn't hold a candle. We also got the fish tacos which were mediocre but that definitely could've been due to them being out of fish that they usually use (Mahi). Crab cake definitely was the star. I expected bar food, but at least halfway decent bar food. Not so. Other than the raw oysters, which were very good, the food was barely passable. Fried oysters were greasy and the batter was bland. Fish and chips - the fish was greasy and the tiny side of broccoli had no taste. Steamed mussels come with an Indian sauce straight out of a jar, barely heated up. Cocktails priced at Tides Inn prices, but very light on the alcohol. The server was definitely new and needed some help. Beautiful view, but that doesn't help feed you. Too bad. read more

I checked the website before driving there to see hours and menu and there was zero notice of being closed. furthermore there was no one in site on patio or beach area. I would hope they would have offered a casual menu on the patio if someone was going to use the restaurant but we arrived at 6:45 and was nothing happening. read more

The food was okay. The fish tacos were very light on the fish so avoid if you are hungry. The crab cake was good and filling. Good fries. Our waitress was in training and left on her own. It wasn't bad but it wasn't good either. I had the tabouli bowl, they need to read what is in tabouli before calling it a tabouli bowl. It was a large, overcooked, piece of salmon with cherry tomatoes, lettuce and overcooked quinoa with a lemony vinaigrette. Meh. My husband had their fish and chips, he said it was nondesript chunk of fish with not enough chips. We went with another couple who also ordered fish and chips, everyone ate the chips and left fish, that's telling! Tap beers are $9. Our bill was over $300 including tip. Keep in mind that this is a glorified poolside snack bar, no frills, tables and chairs you would find in a cafeteria. Our server was great which is why Fish Hawk got any stars. It got so loud inside that that we left to sit outside for that extra beer. Icing on the cake was that they charged us $10 to dock our dingy. You would think that if you are going to spend that much, the docking would be included. Btw, the bathrooms were not maintained and TP was nowhere in sight. read more

Weren't sure we could go in since we weren't guests at the Tides Inn but we were welcomed for a late lunch. Had a table along the windows where we could see the new boardwalk and watch boats motor by. The crab cake sandwich with a side salad was ample and delicious. Came here on a recommendation. Just realize it is part of the The Tides Inn. It is next to their pool. This is all good but one needs to know that it is a very cool pool bar. We went for a dip n ate and drank the afternoon way. The inside decor is very open and clean it is a small bar, good selection of beers n wine and drinks. We had the $2 oysters , the middle grade not so salty, they were excellent size. They came with a vinegar "dip" and cocktail sauce. Chilled and were shucked perfectly so they slid right outta the shell into my mouth. Perfect. The staff was excellent, bright happy energetic with service that made you feel at home. Brian who has been on the resort for 10yrs was awesome. GREAT pours on his drinks. He came out to deliver our oysters and I meant to ask for another drink and just as I got to the bar he had 2 drinks already made and bringing them out to us. His response was , you looked like ya'll were ready for another. Woot!! Great spot, don't let the part about being attached to the Tides Inn deter you from trying this place out. read more

We wanted to like this place but it was a letdown. The fried pickles we ordered as an appetizer were fried way too long, you could not even taste the pickle. There was a special of grouper over what could be described as a gumbo. It tasted good but the fish was tiny. Grouper is a big fish and usually server as such. They seemed to quarter a grouper filet and serve a 1/4 on the plate leaving you with less fish to eat with the gumbo. Maybe we caught them on a bad day. read more

My husband and I drove from Urbanna and we were so excited to visit the five star Tides Inn (and their more affordable restaurant). Upon arrival, we found that the Fish Hawk was essentially their pool bar. Lots of kids running around and not the relaxing waterside experience we were expecting. We were sat quickly and then it took about 10 minutes for us to get acknowledged. After three different employees visited the table, we still had to ask for our table to be cleaned off as it had food scraps on it and some weird fluids. Not comforting in the Covid era. I ordered a Beyond Burger and told the waitress I was vegan. Long story short, the burger that came had a mayo based sauce on a brioche bun, with butter. Worst of all, it was horrendously buggy with lots of flies and creatures that were ending up in our drinks and food. The restaurant had no bug spray to provide. Now I see that they've had previous health code violations for pest control. Needless to say, we will not be returning. Save your money and go to a truly high end establishment that sanitizes appropriately, understands dietary restrictions, and has better customer service. read more

The food is good but very pricey. Also, the food comes from a kitchen located in another building, so if it's raining be ready for a long wait as they can't have the staff running between buildings if there's the chance of lightning. We were on vacation in Irvington and were staying at house we rented. We decided that we would get a day pass to here to use their pool and amenities. We went kayaking which was alright although they did not warn us that there were jellyfish in the water which they told us after the fact. The pool area was nice. The restaurant by the pool, the Fish Hawke Oyster Bar, the pictures look nicer than the actual restaurant and food. The pina colada was the worst I ever had. The salad was $26 and they barely gave you anything, only a handful of lettuce and teaspoon of crab that was not fresh. We ordered oysters that we did not receive. We told our waiter and she did not care at all but took them off our bill. We were so looking forward to going there, it was a great disappointment. read more
