My First Impression I was on my usual early-morning mission: find my daily IV of coffee. That search led me here. Whenever I try a new café, I always recommend looking at the customer photos online--not just the polished owner-posted shots. Real customer photos usually tell the true story. In this case, the space felt more like a basic move-in-and-go setup than a place with much warmth or character. I walked in and asked the woman that was sitting in an area that was associated with the flowers if anyone was working the counter. A petite brunette came out from the back. I pointed to a pastry and asked, "Is this almond...?" She immediately started ringing it up. I stopped her and clarified, "No, wait--is it an almond pastry?" She glanced at the item, looked back at me, and rolled her eyes in a way that made me feel like I'd asked something unreasonable. Trying to move things along, I ordered a Blue Mocha something, a slightly warmed chocolate chip cookie, and then-- "You're going too fast," she said. That caught me off guard, especially since she was already typing into the register. I found myself wondering why such a simple interaction felt unnecessarily tense. Then I asked, while pointing to the display of paper and plastic cups, "Which size is a medium?" I was just trying to compare it to Starbucks sizing. Without making eye contact, without saying a word, she simply pointed. By then, I had already formed my impression. Hospitality doesn't require theatrics--just basic courtesy. A greeting, eye contact, a simple explanation, or even a neutral tone would have gone a long way. When the order was ready, she placed everything on the counter and said nothing. Passed by this coffee house on my way to an appointment and it caught my eye that I had to go in, especially after the folks at my appointment raved about the space. It's an absolutely adorable floral boutique and cafe that feels like a mini getaway. (I got my order to go, but seems like such a perfect place to say in and savor your pastries/food and drink). The owner helped me out and she was so sweet and welcoming. There is a very generous menu with things I think many people could enjoy. I ordered the chocolate croissant (my guilty pleasure) and a oat milk caramel flat white. The croissant was divine, so much as that when I got home with it, my cat pounced (and she's very picky about her pastries haha). The flat white tasted more like a latte, with a too much milk and not enough espresso, so I think I'd get it again with an extra shot or just a note to reduce the milk. We decided to try out Adore Coffee House because it was within walking range from our hotel. The coffee shop looks new with less than 100 reviews on Yelp and most reviews are positive. First thing you notice when you step in to the shop is that they share the space with a floral company. Half the space is for the coffee shop and the other half is occupied by the floral shop. At around 10:30 am on a Monday there's around 4 people sitting around waiting for their order. The downside of this small coffee shop is that one person is in charge of everything. There was only 1 gentleman working behind the counter. He was the barista, cook and the cashier. Not ideal if you're in a rush. We ordered the fig & cheese toast, flat white and a iced match. The total came out to around $30 with tips. Service was a bit slow since it's one guy doing everything. It took around 15 minutes or so for our order. The flat white was perfect. The toast was a bit too sweet for my palette and the matcha had a little bit too much syrup. The shop seems like a great place to bring your laptop to work or study. It doesn't seem like they get a heavy amount of foot traffic which is probably why there's only 1 barista. But when there is a small rush there might be a little delay in service. read more

I got the blue moon signature drink which consists of espresso, spirulina, regular milk, and vanilla cold foam. I got oat milk to replace the standard regular milk although the vanilla cold foam does still have dairy in it. The drink is definitely aesthetically pleasing with the blue spirulina swirls on the bottom. But the taste is more mild than how it looks- I couldn't taste too much of the vanilla cold foam and tasted hints of the spirulina and espresso. If you are looking for more mild-tasting latte with no crazy flavors, this is your drink. They have 2 high top tables with a couple of chairs and one bigger table off to the side to sit at as well as some outside seating. I was able to find parking pretty easily just across the street at metered parking. It is also a shared space with a florist shop so there are pretty flower bouquets to look at/shop for. read more

Another favorite coffee shop had relocated their shops in a further location from Cortez Hill - saw this place on the way home and said why not. Let me tell you why... not. :: ORDER :: BANANA LATTE ($7) - this item was on their Speciality Drink and I chose this particular one because I love banana flavor anything. Decaf, hot, whole milk. It was served in a generic with no branding of the cafe. First sip was strong of espresso flavor. It took a couple sips to begin to taste the banana flavor but the overall sip lacked sweetness and bitter - reminded me of a non ripe banana. After adding a half of sweetener, it was ok but still reminisce of bitter in the aftertaste. This is what I got for $7 (plus a dollar tip). No latte should be $7 and this drink has no justifiable reason to be that expensive to taste "just ok". :: SERVICE/AMBIANCE :: Service was average, barista was very nice. Ambiance was a little weird. It's in the corner in downtown and a very busy corner close to the exit of the 5 south bound. Inside is a lot smaller as the space is shared with a floral shop. This is hands-down the best coffee I've had in the U.S. It's smooth, flavorful, and doesn't have that burnt or stale taste you find at the big chains. You can immediately tell they take their coffee seriously here. My boss got the Sakura coffee and the banana cream/bread dessert in a can (yes, in a can--super unique and delicious). I went with the shaken espresso and the tiramisu dessert in a can, both of which were incredible. One of the employees--super friendly guy with blue hair--recommended I also try the Whiskey coffee (non-alcoholic), and wow... I would come back just for that. The depth of flavor was unreal. Great indy coffee shop! The coolest thing about this place is that it actually has drinks that are different. For reals. Not just the same latte with syrup. I had the blue moon which has spirulina in it. Not only is it beautiful in it's presentation, but it tasted great and very unique. My cutie pie girlfriend had the taro drink. Both were excellent! Super nice staff as well. So good in fact that I came two days in a row. This morning I'm eating the goat cheese and fig jam toast which is absolutely delicious. And just a note to the person who reviewed and didn't "adore" the place - you simply didn't mix your drink. LOL. This place is located near my partner's area, and we've both seen this place from its start, change in interior, its offerings, and the flux in prices and people as it has established itself. While I admittedly favor their food more than their espresso and coffee drinks, those drinks are still enjoyable and I will still happily buy and try out different drinks and food and support this business. They have an extensive menu! I've drunk their chai, ruby cacao, banana milk latte. I enjoy the seltzers a lot. The breakfast croissant is a staple go-to, but I've also had their goat cheese and fig jam toast, prosciutto toast, French toast, and banofee dessert (banana + toffee) in a can. I've eaten from here multiple times and continue to do so because their sweet and savory options are absolutely delicious. The service is very friendly, and wait time generally depends on the amount of people in there. Food, drinks, and even the interior are beautifully presented. I love this spot as a hangout spot--large window-walls and seating right by them, nice lighting and warmth, maybe enough seating for 5 to 7 2 or 3 people groups and two small tables outside--but not so much as a remote work spot. To the right of the entrance, there aren't any outlets for charging. Adore Coffee is a Ukranian café that shares the space with a gift shop and sell select arrangements from coffee + flowers. I've always seen the cute baby blue umbrellas in front of the café and you can see the flower bouquets from outside. So far, I've tried the Blue Spirulina Vanilla Latte, Sakura Matcha Latte, and Smoked Salmon Toast. Literally everything, and I mean everything was crafted so beautifully and tasted delicious. The smoked salmon toast had a nice ratio of salmon to cream cheese and capers. It's a lovely spot to lounge at and enjoy coffee and a quick breakfast. We were walking around waiting for our hotel check in when we stumbled across this cute cafe. when we walked in, we noticed that it was next to a little flower shop which made the café smell very nice and fresh. There was a lady who took care of us and she was so sweet and nice. I'm so confused by all these good reviews. It should be 2 stars for the coffee because it was terrible. Only reason I'm giving 3 is because the place is cute inside. I ordered the brown sugar oatmilk latte and it came out completely brown. It didn't look like there was any oatmilk in it. I got it 75% sweetened and it was still super sweet. You know your coffee is about to be terrible by the color. And so I went on to taste it and sure enough tasted like there was no oatmilk in it. I drank some of it and went back to ask to add oatmilk in it. And it was better but not by much. My sister in law got the same and hers had barely a splash of oatmilk too and didn't taste good. My husband ordered a Taro latte and it didn't taste like coffee at all. Definitely won't be coming back to this coffee shop. So many other great options in San Diego. read more

This is my new favorite coffee place! Very convenient location off 5th with cute outdoor seating and matching interior. The space is shared with a florist and I was admiring their purple roses! We went on a Sunday morning and while we were the only ones there at first, about 6 others came in after. The barista was friendly and graciously answered our questions. I decided on the iced taro latte and the rose cold brew. While the pricing seemed a little high, the drink itself is large and crafted very well, not to mention a pretty presentation (they were pink & purple). The drinks themselves are delicious with the perfect blend of espresso and flavor and not too sweet. Marina from Adore Coffee House treats her business like it's her baby, and you can tell! With every cup of coffee or snack you buy, you can tell Marina and her team make sure to provide the best qualify ingredients and throw a hint of Ukranian flavors. They have cute blue/teal tables outside and inside it's very clean, brightly colored. I had an event there for a photography meet and Marina and her team provided excellent service and went above and beyond with providing us an amazing customer experience. Located in the corner of the street, right next to a free way entrance - it's an excellent for a quick pit stop, for groups and for events. There is a lot of street parking, for it being a coffee shop in downtown. There is metered parking. You can totally park, grab a coffee, and take a walk around downtown. They share this excellent space with Luna Flowers San Diego and their flowers beautifully decorate the coffee shop. Wanted to try a new coffee shop today. Came in and wasn't very busy, as you'd probably expect for a July 4th morning. Service was good, asked what they had in options for pour overs. The response was that they had one option that was a medium roast. Already kind of a strange description to answer the question, but I decided to go with it. Charged me $3.50, which again is a red flag... or the cheapest pour over in SD. Proceeded to get poured a batch brew coffee that was ready 15 seconds later. Now, the coffee I got was actually very good. So I don't have anything negative other than if you're looking for a good pour over with options, I might try elsewhere.
