Terrible customer service. I will never recommend West Coast EyeCare in Escondido, Calif. I took my disabled son in to pick out frames and have never felt so unwelcome. I called ahead to see if we needed an appointment and was told no, we could walk in because we had our prescription with us. The person who quite obviously did not want to help us, regretfully did so. She was rude and stated that my son's lenses would look like coke bottles right in front of him. The receptionist as well was non-receptive, made a face and rolled her eyes when I told her we were sent back to her desk to fill out paperwork. I then told them nevermind and we left. read more

They aren't JUST optometrists, there are actual ophthalmologists on site. This is good news for those of us who need that for whatever reason. I will also say that the checkup we had was thorough and not uncomfortable at all. However, I did not love their glasses guy. He was very blasé and rather offputting. Their selection of glasses was VERY limited as well, as all the styles seemed to be the same, rectangular, black, masculine. I elected to take the Rx with me to get my glasses elsewhere. I wanted to write a follow up to my Conversation with Luz at West Coast Eye Care. She promised me an equitable solution to my twice broken lens mounted very high end glasses purchased at the now closed facility in La Jolla, CA. I've been out of the state for a few months so was just now able to take her up on the offer of $150 to completely replace. I was promised this solution and now was told that I will only get a discount on the products that I purchased. I guess I'll have to file a small claims case against them to get their attention. Do yourself a favor and find another place to do business for Eye Care!!! I'm a retired military person and can't afford the aggravation or extreme costs of doing business here! read more

Worst experience ever! My appointment was at 2pm so I came 15 min early just in case. I signed in and sat down to wait. Later 3 people came after me and somehow was call in before I did. Look at the clock and it was 2:20pm. I went up to the receptionist to ask why I wasn't call and these 3 patient who came after me got seen first. She ask if they call me at all and I told them no. She went back to talk to a technician then came and told me he was sorry and now is getting a room for me. Wow! So I was basically skipped. Smh. read more

Dr. Ramolia and her staff (Sal notably) were AWESOME. I'm a first time glasses wearer, never had an issue with my eyes ever, and Dr. Ramolia was just great! She took her time, answered my questions (who knew i had an astigmatism?!) and addressed all of my needs. If I could give this place 10 stars, I would. I also don't have any insurance, and they worked with me and my budget. Even if you already have an established eye doc, you should SWITCH to Dr. Ramolia!! You will be very happy!! read more

I was put on hold for 20 minutes then asked to be put on hold again. when the person answered they hung up on me I've tried leaving messages numerous times and no one manages to call back so I have an appointment for tomorrow that I'm wondering if I should even go to because I'm not very happy with this place. Truly, as good as it gets! During this time of crisis (COVID-19) West coast Eye Care on West Valley Pkwy. received a call from yours truly because even though I wear safety glasses when I cut or drill I tend to get fragments in my eyes. This time I could not flush it out and I felt it could cause severe damage and when I called I was IMMEDIATELY PRIORITIZED!!! Although there is a crisis happening the experts said I needed to be seen. I was seen within 10 mins!!! Not joking!!! Extraction was needed, expertly done and follow-up scheduled including antibiotics prescribed. I am truly grateful for the service that I have been afforded. The front office is incompetent. I called to schedule a visual field exam. When I arrived they told me the doctor who does that test wasn't in and they had scheduled me for a regular eye exam. I scheduled another appointment. This time they informed me the machine was broken! They didn't have the courtesy to call me to reschedule before i drove there AGAIN. Two strikes and you're out. I RARELY leave a 1 star review. I actually wish there was a lower score, perhaps a -3. Anyways, this place tries to squeeze every penny out of you, and if you don't watch out they will. You have to constantly play defense. Eye exam was quick and painless, actually felt a little too quick, but that's not the source of my issue. Went to the frames/lenses area, couldn't find anything more than 1 pair that was ok. I got the model # and decided to go elsewhere. I ended up checking online and found the same pair of name-brand frames on Amazon for 1/3 their price. $60 vs $180. Seriously. Got all the info from insurance, went back to have them take care of the lenses. I figured they did the exam, may as well give them the business. I go back in, supposed to be free, and he said it's going to be $130 something. What?! Oh, and this is after I sit in the waiting room for over 10 minutes because when I walked in he was in the bathroom. I told him I didn't want the anti-reflective coating (which I told him the first time, but he noted it down anyways). So he takes that off (seemingly begrudgingly, but who knows for sure), then says $64. Insurance said free. He said that's for plastic, and if we did plastic it would only be $30 but they can't do plastic for these, they have to use polycarbonate. I told him nevermind, I felt like I was being misled. He handed back my glasses, didn't say a word and just let me walk out of there. No attempt to inquire why, explain anything, nothing--really couldn't care less. I called another company near my old house (longer drive now, which is why I tried West Coast), they said it should be the same from place to place but she humored me and gave me pricing for my particular insurance plan. She said it should be free, I told her I agreed but West Coast wanted $64. We discussed plastic vs polycarbonate, and she said without a bottom rim they have to be polycarbonate and it's because of the special way of holding the lens (she explained in detail) that they have to use that material. So it would be $24. I opted to go with the other company because A) they were helpful and friendly, B) they explained why polycarbonate had to be used, and C) they charged $24 instead of $64 after insurance coverage. The other company was considerate, helpful, informative, and seemed to care. The complete OPPOSITE of West Coast. It's funny, the first time I typed their name I put 'West Cost Eye Care'...which is actually more reflective of the experience. read more

I wish I could give no stars! I've been having some discomfort in my right eye... I had been referred to a different ophthalmologist but he had moved to Chula Vista so I called my insurance (Tricare) said I could go to any other Ophthalmologist of my choice as long as they accepted Tricare. I looked around and found this place. I called last week to make an appointment and I explained to her that the name of another doctor was on my referral she said "it should be fine, just to bring it with me the day of my appointment". Well, here I am 20 min early and this dumb girl tells me I need to have the name of their facility on the referral -__- she waited for me to come to their office to tell me that bs and not be seen... at first she said she told me when I scheduled my appointment which she never did, why would I come knowing I need their name on the referral?!.. Then she said she called...I never got a phone call or VM, I guess she was too busy applying a million coats of mascara to do her job right. Do yourself a favor and find another place. read more

I received a fair eye exam on 2 occasions, but have not received very good service in getting my records from them sent to another doctor. I have been trying to get these records in order to schedule LASIK surgery and finally got someone to speak with about this after being left on hold for more than 10 minutes. After all of this time, with my eye doctor trying to get my records,as well. I am told I will have to sign a release. I would rate them very low on customer service. read more

Not sure why there are so many bad reviews for this location but I've had nothing but great treatment here. The staff at the front desk has been kind and very helpful. The technicians doing the eye exams and pictures have been wonderful and the eye doctor, Dr. Morrison has been incredible. I've been there twice in a week due to sudden floaters and flashes. Yesterday, Dr. Morrison did laser surgery on my eye because I had a tear. The procedure was not painful, uncomfortable, but all in all , took less than 5 minutes. He wants a follow up in a week. I read about other eye clinics where the follow up was 3-6 months! When it comes to my eyes, I want a place that is proactive and I feel West Coast Eye Center is an excellent clinic. read more

Services are adequate. They definitely do not go out of their way for you. I saw an optometrist, opthamologist and ordered contact lenses at $440 and they would not perform a simple repair on my generic reading glasses for free. We couldn't be more appreciative of Dr. Joshua Morrison-Reyes, who performed eye surgery - a vitrectomy - to treat a hole in the macula of my husband's eye. From our first visit to a additional visits to determine whether the hole would heal on its own, to the actual surgery (when it didn't heal on its own), to post op visits, Dr. Morrison explained everything in terminology that we could understand, answered all our questions, and showed a genuine interest in my husband's recovery and well being. The surgery was not at all painful for my husband, and the hole is now gone. His vision continues to improve and we should see even more improvement over the upcoming months. You know when you are in the care of a competent professional and a kind human being. We recommend Dr, Morrison to anyone needing retina surgery. The Escondido office staff are friendly as well. THE DOCTORS ARE OKAY, BUT GREG NEEDS TO GO! My family first started going to West Coast Eyecare in Escondido when they were a much smaller office with only one doctor. We went there because, at the time, it was the only eye doctor our insurance covered, and it was a nice place to go. The doctor was kind and very attentive. Now they've moved to a much larger spot, and I feel that they have gone from nice to adequate. I have no complaints about the eye doctors or the receptionists. They are pleasant, and they do their jobs. I do, however, have a huge problem with their salesperson, Greg. My husband took my son to have his eyes checked as part of his annual exam. The appointment went along fine until my husband decided to let my son take a look at some frames and get some prices. This is my son's first pair of eyeglasses and he's twelve. He's nervous. He doesn't know how his peers will perceive him. He also happens to have cerebral palsy. My husband is very standoffish. I told him that we weren't buying glasses today because I knew they would be expensive and to just come home with the prescription, something my husband relayed to Greg. But this man had the tenacity of a car salesman, and when my husband wasn't receptive to purchasing glasses today, he decided to focus on selling them to my son. I've worked in retail, and I remember the days when we were told to sell to the kids when the parents wouldn't buy, and I thought that was awful. In my opinion, someone who would sell to kids, especially something as costly as eyeglasses can be, are the scum of the earth. He kept asking my husband, "So, when are you coming back to buy those glasses?" ($400+ glasses for a 12 year old boy with a mild astigmatism...and, oh wait! Did he sell my son on the $300+ transitions option? Why yes, he did!) And when my husband finally left, Greg conveniently forgot to give him the prescription my husband asked over and over for, necessitating my husband's return to the office later in the day. I think this is a disgusting way to behave as a salesperson. His behavior is seriously making me re-consider whether I ever want to return to this eye care place at all for any reason. read more

I had a pleasant experience at West Coast Eye. The receptionist were ok but the Doctor and the opticians were excellent. Great customer service from Greg and Reggie when choosing and picking up my new glasses. I did find the pricing to be high for my glasses but I have tried those online prescription glasses companies and the quality is poor in regards to both the frames and lenses compared to what I received at West Coast Eye- totally worth it. I won't recommend this place for ophthalmologist at all. The doctor that I saw Dr. Suthja failed to preauthorize my prescription even do that I called my insurance and they were willing to cover it after the preauth. I was dealing with the pain and redness of my eye for many days after my $40.00 visit copayment and never got the prescription corrected. I would recommend them if you are willing to deal with your symptoms with just the visit with no prescription. I wish that you can rank them with no stars at all. Go and see your personal doctor and deal with a lower copayment versus these "Specialists". read more

They have prices here that are more than reasonable especially compared to competitors like Lenscrafters, they give excellent customer service and every time I have been here I have been assisted by Greg who is super knowledgeable when it comes to eyewear and always gives me good advice when it comes to choosing frames. My friend recently got a pair of chrome ray ban sunglasses from here and even though he knows I wanted them first I was so happy that Greg went out of his way to check and see if they have the copper ones which he special ordered for me. Now my friend can finally have a seat because summer is not over yet, and my fly shades will be soon be the talk of the town thanks to West Coast Eyecare Associates! LOL read more

This place is horrible!!!! Bad patient care. They over charge for glasses. I came here to get a vision exam done and everything from the start was bad. They called me up late. The optometrist didn't let me fully explain what was wrong and gave me the answer well that happens to some people... Then when I asked her what my vision was like her answer was its 20/20 and I said but I need glasses so how can it be 20/20? Her responce was well its 20/20 with glasses... I repeated the question a couple of times and she gave me the same answer. So I gave up on asking and when I was going to leave I asked if I could get some platic covers for my eyes since they dilated my eyes but they refused to give a cover to me since I had sunglasses and to them that was enough coverage... So my drive home I had the sun hittng my left eye all the way home that when I got home my eyes were hurting a lot and I couldn't leave my house for the rest of the day. This place is the worst ever!!!!!!!! Don't waste your time. If you get reffered here ask for some one else or run for the hills. read more

When I first arrived everyone that worked here was very pleasant and nice. I noticed somebody was there to pick up perception. They were waiting for awhile only to find out that there perception was not even there. The lady was very upset. I thought "I hope this doesn't happen to me". The optometrist was very nice and professional. Went to pick out my glasses with my wife. Her eyes were so bad that she needed a rush on her prescription. I only needed glasses for reading. They told her that her glasses would only take 7 days at the most and my glasses were going to take a month. No big deal. I didn't need mine right away. 7 days went by and no call. On the 9th day I called to find out what was going on. Come to find out someone along the way messed up and my glasses were ready and hers were going to be another week. Not good. The optometrist did a great job and would recommend her. As for the sales department..... Seems that they don't know what's going on. I would use the optometrist but get your prescription and get your glasses somewhere else!! read more

I've tried to work with these people two years in a row. The front desk never seems to know what is going on and when they make a mistake, they don't own it, they blame the customer. The doctor always tells me something different than what the front desk does. They have wasted much of my time and they are pushy when it comes to selling lenses. The front desk just made an appointment for me to come in to try new lenses because I want to change my prescription and said that since I was so close to the 90-days (my prescription says 11/15/15) that I have to try different lenses that they'd make an exception. I made a next day appointment and got there and waited 20 minutes today while another lady was having problems working something out with them. The doctor came out to take me back and said it was going to cost me $39 to start the process over. When I told her that was not what the girl up front (right next to me) said, she asked me, "how should she know?" Why would she advise me and "make an exception" if she didn't know??? This place needs to get some training on insurance billing and communicating with patients. Poor customer service!!! read more
