I searched for an urgent care center near Castro valley. With this being in Safeway I knew exactly where this is. It's in the back, right next to the pharmacy. So there is no mention anywhere on the website that this was going to be a "virtual" visit with a physician assistant. I wasn't told until I walked into the room and saw a large Tv with chair infront of it. I didn't mind the virtual visit since I have done that through an app to see a doctor before. But the PA I saw, she wasn't the best person. She wasn't showing empathy. She didn't seem to care much. The nurse was nice and explained every step. But at the end. The PA just told me to take like 6 different over the counter meds (which I was already taking for like a week). She didn't offer to give me a Rx for Anything. Waste of time and money. read more

I was looking to see a last minute urgent care and I am not going to the other urgent care I've been to just cause they charged me more than $100 for copay ugh.. so I came across this urgent care in yelp and I'm glad I did. Not only I did not pay for copay but I was able to get an appointment 5 mins I called to check. Phi was the nurse who handled me and she is the bomb. She took care of me the whole time I was there. I was able to get a same-day appointment with less than 2 hours notice. It was a super high-tech doctor's visit. Phi, my nurse was great! She recorded my heart and lungs, took photos of my inner ears and throat and was able to submit everything online to a doctor who reviewed the information remotely. I then had a virtual consultation with the doctor online, was diagnosed with bronchitis and my prescriptions were sent to the pharmacy at Safeway, just steps away from the clinic. Thanks! read more

I would give this place no stars if I could. I got sick in February and came to this place, thinking it was like a different Urgent care I had been to before. I had no idea there are no actual doctors there, or that it would take 2 hours just to check me in. Then I find out because I havent met my deductible yet, I had to pay them $100 just to be checked in and speak to a doctor over a video call. After 2 hours of being there, video chatting with a dr. I finally get prescribed medicine, but the dr. wants me to come back for a follow-up, I ask the medical assistant if I'll have to pay again, she says no, so fine. A week later and I'm way to sick to go out for my follow-up and I get a call saying if I don't reschedule they will charge me anyway, so I reschedule for a couple days later. I go to my follow-up and it's the same medical assistant, so after another 2 hours of checking me in, I have to wait in line to see a doctor, but for some reason the medical assistant kept changing doctors, which changed my place in line and I had to wait even longer. After finally speaking to a dr. and letting him know that I was still sick, he prescribed other things for me, after I left at some point I went to Walgreens to pick up my prescriptions, but when I was talking to the pharmacist, one of the prescriptions didnt come in pill form like the dr had said it did, but a combination of sudafed and mucinex had the same ingredients, I looked at the sudafed and it states it's for nasal congestion, I didnt have nasal congestion, the dr also prescribed an inhaler, which I had my own, better working at home, the final prescription was Zyrtec, first I have that at home, but I dont have allergies right now. My prognosis was bronchitis with possible pneumonia, so why the allergy medicine? The dr requested to see me again for another follow-up, I made sure to ask again if I will be charged, no again, but the medical assistant had to call someone to make sure, as long as I am seen within 10 days of my first appointment and it's for the same problem, I won't be charged. So I come back a week later, and at this point I was feeling better, but even if I wasn't I wasn't going to say anything to them, I wasted so much time being there, and never saw a dr in person, the medicines prescribed didnt work, the only thing I needed was rest. When I arrive it's a different medical assistant, but it seemed like this one knew exactly what she was doing, she checked me in rather quickly and got me in line to see a dr, the waiting in line took longer than it took her to check me in, but when I saw a dr told him everything was fine and I was better. So a few days later I get an email saying I owed 107 something, so I called and you're talking to a dispatcher, and all age could say was talk to your insurance, but they are the ones charging me, what are these charges for? I was told I wasn't going to be charged for anything else. With that email it says they have my credit card on file, it will be charged in 72 hours. So there's nothing I can do, they're going to charge me. A month later I get a message from action urgent care, I owe $269 something, with another email saying they will charge my credit card in 72 hours. This place is a RIP off and I regret going here, instead of just driving to Los Gatos to see my real doctor. Stay away from this place and anything connected to ACTION URGENT CARE! read more

Went there with flu and nausea and instead of properly diagnosing I was prescribed a multitude of different medications. Paid my copay and 6months later received a bill for $225. Billing department, which is local, is not answering. read more

I've known of this location for a couple of months now and decided to give them a shot as my Primary Care Physician was all booked up for the day. I am VERY thankful to this place and to my nurse Phi who was very nice, sweet, caring, and attentative to my medical issue that I was having. It's a really nice and welcoming atmosphere inside the office, and Phi was very professional and attentative to my issue, and made me feel comfortable and relaxed the whole time that I was in the office. Highly effective! The nurse takes all the pertinent information, then if needed does a video conference with a doctor. It was quick and amazing. The doctor was great, the nurse was great. There was practically no wait. The place was spotlessly clean. It all felt like a prequel to a science fiction movie - in a great way! Technology meets medicine.. in the grocery store. Only weird bit was that people were walking in randomly from Safeway to take their blood pressure on the free machine inside the clinic door. That felt a little odd, but other than that it was really a positive experience. We were in and out in no time. I would definitely use this urgent care clinic again. read more

The website indicated that the office was open on Thanksgiving day and even took an online appointment. Upon visit, the clinic was actually closed, which was very upsetting as we could have gone somewhere else. This is something easily preventable by noting this on the website. read more

I would not advise using the services at action urgent care. I went in for mouth pain and received terrible customer service, waited over an hour after having an appointment, and then the telemedicine technology was messing up, so the provider could not even look in my mouth, yet blindly threw out a few possible explanations WITHOUT EVER BEING ABLE TO SEE WHAT WAS GOING ON! I paid out of pocket $200 and they refused to refund my money. Terrible customer service and terrible medical practices. Take your money elsewhere! read more

Probably one of the most convenient and efficient health care appointments I've had. I needed to make a last minute appointment to get my cold checked out and get a doctors note for my work. After being encouraged to give urgent care a try, I called over and was able to make an appointment almost immediately. I made my way over to the Safeway where it was located, not really sure what to expect, but when I got there it was easy to locate (right next to the pharmacy in the back), well kept, and comfortable. I was helped out by Phi and a doctor via a Skype type big screen. Phi was very kind and approachable and made the whole appointment easy and simple, which you need when you're sick and have sick brain. The screen thing might be weird for some people but it was sufficient for what I needed from the Doctor. I was able to secure the doctors note and was done in about a half hour. Will definitely use again if I'm in a pinch and need medical assistance. read more

I had never been here before I came her for pain that I could not stand it was the closest urgent care to me I thought it was very weird how it was randomly in Safeway when I went into the office it was very small and there was only one person working the entire office ? She was very nice and did help me put the process was a pain in the ass they only take PPO insurance and waiting to see the doctor was also a pain because the nurse has to text the doctor back and forth and you had to wait for a response ? When I finally got in FaceTime with the doctor she wasn't very helpful I knew what was happening cause I been through it before and the doctor told me something the complete opposite finally at the end I got to get my pain medicine I had been asking for for over an hour then I had left to sum this all up my advice would be not to go to this urgent care don't waste your time go to a emergency or a actual urgent care that has actual doctors there instead of FaceTiming them I will never come back here read more

We were visiting from out of town and needed an urgent care place in Castro Valley and this one was the closest to us. Phi, the nurse, got us set up and vitals taken, the Dr got online and everything worked real smoothly. I've read about clinics where the Dr is online instead of in person but this was the first time we tried it. Quick and efficient. Phi was great and explained everything as she got all our info. If there was a zero to give this review I would because first I was in that place for over 2 hours. The second is that I came in with an infection and the nurse/receptionist was asking over 5 times what I had and I had to keep repeating myself over and over. Then when we meet with the doctor on screen it was less than five minutes in compared to that nurse who took forever. But is does not stop there they wanted to draw some blood but the nurse botch it really bad and I left with bruises in my arm. I tried to say everything was okay but it's seemed that she didn't want to hear that. Lastly, after having to go my own way to get my own prescription instead of getting it from the nearby pharmacy they had. After this experience that place had the decency to charge me as my deductible $165 for service that could of been done in less than 30 minutes. I wished I looked the reviews before going there. I NEVER coming back there and warn other DO NOT GO TO THAT CLINIC!!!! You'll just waste your time and money there. read more

I needed to see a doctor the Friday after TGiving for a hugely swollen knee resulting from a fall off stairs that landed me on my kneecaps on Thanksgiving night. I left the crutches at home (HUGE mistake) and thought I could handle hobbling around. When I arrived, I specifically indicated my problem and that I primarily need pain meds to get me to Tuesday when I saw my reg orthopedist and was advised they did not have xray abilities; which was fine. I was going to go to Sutter Healths' Urgent Care at Eden Hospital but as Safeway was closer to my home and connected to the pharmacy, one stop shop AND I could get milk!! The nurse was training two gals and I had no issues with them watching the process as we all have to learn from real experiences. We went through the new patient set up, paid my $35 and when the nurse was done, she said at Noon, it'd be about 5-10 minutes. At 12:15 she came in and said there was one patient before me so once they were seen it would be my turn. ? There wasn't anyone else there when I arrived; i'm confused. At 12:45 they returned and started the video in front of me. 'Oh, this is a video apt...' I work for a competitor to what they were using which is good as after 2+ tries, they couldn't get the audio to work; they couldn't hear us. They finally had me use a regular phone to talk to the dr who 1) said she can't prescribe pain meds (narcotics) remotely; new laws require physical scripts-pad; and 2) they could send me out for xrays. I calmly explained that I now felt this was an entire waste of my time - I'd been there almost 90 minutes and NOW had to go to another facility for the same thing. When asked how the dr was to examine a physical problem from a video camera, the nurse explained she would relay the issues. Uh, my opine, what, she's going to poke at my knee, watch me cuss at her and tell the dr, 'it's swollen'. Oh.. ok! And then, I can't get any pain meds anyway!? What's the point of this place... if I have an ear infection, (which I was blessed with child's ears and get often) you can't look in my ear; if I have strep, you can't look in my throat - do I show you the color of my phlegm over video? I know our product www.polycom.com does remote medical like (or is) doctors w/out boarders as we allow for patients of third world countries to speak to a real doctor - but we can't get it right in my own back yard!? After voicing my frustration, the doctor, who said she was an orthopedic surgeon said she completely understood my frustration, which was helpful, and I explained that if this is a test to see if this worked in this environment - it didn't.... in my opinion. Someone with a physical injury should be told that can't get a prescription for narcotics if that is what they are seeking - to have to get back to and IN my car to go wait someone else for another 90 minutes was not only painful physically, but painful in every other way. Perhaps a runny nose for your 2 year old works or something NOT physical but in my case, it gets an F. I must say however, they handled my issue/challenges with professionalism and I wasn't rude.. it's not their fault that this didn't work for my situation but going forward, they should take this as a learning experience and let someone go that has a physical issue with a potential need for pain meds. Knowing they can't prescribe going in, I would have turned around oh so cautiously and taken the 15 minutes to hobble back to my car to then bend my poor knee to drive to another location to start over.... by the time it was all over... 4+ hours later, I was miserable, my knee was basketball sized (ok, maybe pomelo sized) to just go to ANOTHER place for my meds and then home to Rest, Ice, Compress and Elevate..an repeat. Reg ortho did xtrays and ruled out cracked patella, which we both thought was the problem. Now, 12/2, I'm pretty sure I have a torn tendon and most of the pain is gone except when I bend it a certain way, then it SHOOTS pain through the front of me knee! MRI is next; but I know this isn't going to end well... or cheaply. read more
