I began seeing Dr Zandi as my general practitioner several ago, and for a long time was quite pleased. Then, I started noticing a decline in care. He seemed dismissive when I was able to see him. Many times I was unable to see him, and was referred instead to the very good Nurse Practitioner associated with his office. Then last year, I was diagnosed with a breast cancer. I needed to see him at his new practice in Castro Valley to get some blood work done and make some referrals. Over the course of a very difficult year where along with my diagnosis, I'd spent much time out of town caring for my dying mother, I'd stopped exercising consistently, hadn't been eating well, and had gained weight. I felt that once my cancer was treated, I'd get back on track. After explaining all of this to him, it was as if he hadn't heard me. No condolences for my loss, no "I'm sorry to hear that" about my cancer. Instead he told me I needed to go on Ozempic. I was surprised, since I was less than 20 pounds over a healthy weight. He really put pressure on me, wanting to start treatments immediately, even though I explained that I was about to have surgery and start radiation treatments. I didn't think it was a good time to start a new drug--especially one that there's not a lot of data on yet. He pushed back that I could be on this even with surgery. I told him no. Fast forward--I relayed this conversation to my breast surgeon. She was shocked. You absolutely cannot be taking this drug when going to surgery. I've had surgery, have gone through radiation, and cancer is gone. I'm seeing a new primary care physician, and have begun losing weight on my own. Now I've done a bit of digging. Dr. Zandi now owns a weight loss clinic. This explains his desire to put me on Ozempic rather than trying to lose the weight on my own. I would ask a lot of questions and pay attention to red flags. He's not looking out for your health. He's looking out for his economic gain. read more

Since Dr. Zandi has left Family Medical Group his level of service has dropped to very unsatisfactory. He has opened a weight management company and had deprioritized his medical practice. His nurse Anabelle has been attempting to manage his practice and has been very responsive. We have experienced multiple delays in prescription approval that has affected my husband's health. He called in a prescription last Thursday and CVS has sent two reminders to the doctor's office with no response as of today, Monday. I called the office and the voice mail box is full and I believe Anabelle is on leave of absence. He is not longer associated with the Family Medical Group so the office is unable to assist us at this time. We will be changing doctors to ensure we receive professional assistance. In the meantime, my poor husband has not been able to sleep since is medication has not been renewed. I cannot stress my disappointment in the way Dr. Zandi has been taking care of his patients and plan to file a complaint with the association that oversees the quality of professional physicians. My mom has been seeing this doctor for awhile. Now I've been taking my mom. She likes this doctor's medical assistant because she's Filipino. The doctor tells me my mom's bs is good yet he changes and prescribes more diabetic medication. I inquire why if her A-1 C is good. Anyhow, he prescribed her a new medication more than she needed (more than i take) and said he was trying to save her money by order a large dosage and that she will have to cut the pill in half! My mom is 92! Instead of just prescribing her the correct dosage he believes that he is saving her money by having her cut the pill in half. There are no instructions on the pill bottle stating the pill needs to be cut in half. My mother was taking the entire pill and she was feeling very sick. So we cut all her pills in half and instructed her to take only half a pill. Not very impressed with the care she's receiving. After she was discharged from the hospital, the discharge note states that she is supposed to see her doctor within a week and to have some blood work done. I call his office and ask them to submit the bloodwork to the lab so I can take my mom. They say that the hospital would have submitted orders to have a HH nurse to do the blood draw so she doesn't have to go in the lab. Great!!' I informed medical assistant to dr. Zendi that there are no orders that I can see for an RN and that only PT will be scheduled. The Care Grp called to set up an appointment for the PT only and I inquired about the nurse. They said there are no orders, but that my mom's doctors office can submit orders for a home health nurse to come and draw the blood. When I asked the office to submit the order for the home health nurse apparently it's too much paperwork but they will try. Seriously?! I also asked to set up a follow up appointment with this doctor according to the discharge notes. No call back to set up an appointment. Very disappointed with this doctors office. My mom saw the PT and he was concern that my mom doesn't have a follow appt with this Dr and the lab orders/HH nurse has not been submitted. He said he'll talk to the dr's office about all this and he will place the order for the HH nurse. Honestly, if it was my choice, I'd take her somewhere else for her care. read more

He goes out of his way to make sure that you (the patient) get everything you need before you leave. When he looks at you he's listening to you. He squeezed in for an appointment on Tuesday even though it was my first time seeing him. He came highly recommended by a friend and I know why he is a great doctor. Having recently seen Dr. Zandi a number of times in the last two months, I cannot thank him enough for the great job he has done taking care of me. I was scheduled to have surgery by another Doctor and it was determined that I had high blood sugar and blood pressure. After my first visit, Dr. Zandi put me on a strict diet, exercise and medication. My blood sugar level and blood pressure have decreased significantly and I have lost over 35 pounds. Dr. Zandi also referred me to a Cardiologist to ensure that my heart was in good condition prior to the surgery. Without the expert care by Dr. Zandi I would not have been able to have the successful surgery that was needed. As Dr. Zandi has expressed to me that the need for surgery may have saved my life for without making the changes he prescribed I was headed down a much more dangerous path health wise. I was touring a property in San Francisco, when I fell down a flight of stairs in a 2 story home. I was pretty banged up and needed immediate attention to check for broken bones. Dr. Zandi took me on a moment's notice and I didn't have to wait. Thankfully, the x-rays were negative, but I looked like the Giants took a few turns w/ their baseball bats. Dr. Zandi is one of the kindest, most respectful doctors I have ever met and have had the privilege of being treated by. I have been his patient for about 12 years now, and I truly believe his bedside manner and his level of patience is parallel to none. He has always made me feel extremely comfortable--I have seen him for everything--for physical, mental and emotional problems--and he has never made me feel crazy or ignored. He sees you as a full person, not just someone to fix, and is genuine in his efforts; he is warm, gentle and caring. His attention to detail, his ability to put 2 + 2 together is really remarkable. I have a rare disease, and he is the only doctor to ever think of testing me for it. Many of the specialists he sent me to over the years believed my problems were psychosomatic and/or caused by mental illness, and they also did not believe the severity of my symptoms because I was a "healthy looking" young gal with a "traumatic history" and was clearly "depressed and anxious". Yet Dr. Zandi stayed vigilant, even going through his old medical textbooks to find the diagnosis, fighting with specialists who truly believed I was mentally ill and did not believe in HIM. He was right, though, and I cannot thank him enough for how the diagnosis turned my life around. Considering all of this, I'd say he is a doctor who is truly invested in your well-being. If something is really bothering you, bring it up with him. If its a reasonable concern he will order tests or give referrals to a specialist who can help you out further. On many occasions his assistant has scheduled me for appointments when I've needed to see him in a hurry, and he has never rushed me in any of my appointments. He is the first to admit when he doesn't know something, and will either: A) take the time to look it up immediately in the office, or B) refer you to someone who will know better, and he will give you advice on how to cope with whatever is bothering you until you see a specialist. His assistant Jenny and nurse Annabelle are also a great resource, and they are quick to return phone calls and fax in prescriptions. They, too, work very hard for your care and are extremely friendly, warm, and kind. He is a real gem. He also speaks Farsi and is very respectful of different cultures. As a woman of color I feel he is very respectful of my values, beliefs, and my views on medicine and healing. I've been coming here since I first moved to the area about 8 years ago and needed to find a doctor covered by my insurance. Fortunately I only really ever had Upper Respiratory Track Infections (Sinus infections mainly) and allergy issues but I've always been pleased with Dr. Zandi's attendance and care. He's always listened to my medical concerns, ordered test/bloodwork or given referrals as requested to rule out any of my reasonable requests.
