I'll just get right to the point. DO NOT GET YOUR SURGERY here! They almost killed me. The only person who was decent to me was the receptionist, and after that it was all downhill. The nurse that I was introduced to, Nora, was the first member of the OR team that I met, and when I told her about a condition that I have that they needed to be aware of, instead of reading my doctors note or paying any attention to what I said, she basically said she didn't have time. When I told her it could be a life and death situation, instead of reading the letter I had printed out from my doctor, she asked me if I had my advanced directives. I said to her "Oh, so you're gonna plan for my death instead of making sure that I live?" I told her that my surgeon felt confident that I could advise the OR team about the precautions I needed, and when she asked me if my doctor had signed the letter! I am a Kaiser member, and I have never had this type of experience at Kaiser. I have been through two procedures at Kaiser with no issue and everyone complying with what I need because it's not that hard. She just felt like being difficult and that's when I got the idea they just wanted to rush me out of there from the get-go. She told me they didn't even have time to give me a Benadryl and I argued that the anesthesiologist could give it to me in the IV. After that, I had the displeasure of meeting, Dr. Black, the anesthesiologist, whom pretended to look at my airway, but missed my huge tonsils. When I brought it to his attention, he joked that maybe they should take them out. I told him I was very concerned because I don't have a lot of room and he told me it was going to hurt and there was nothing he could really do about it. If I hadn't trusted my surgeon to pick this place to have my surgery, I would have gotten up and walked right about then. Dr. Black went on to talk about how he is really the anti-nausea anesthesiologist and not so much about the pain relief. I told him that was very concerning since my surgery involved cutting my face where there are lots of nerve endings. He said he would give me a lot of locals, and that he would send me home with Zofran, anti-nausea medication. Post surgery I was sent home without medical staff making sure I could urinate, and I had problems later because they had used a catheter. I could not rest when I got home because I felt like a knife was going through my throat into my jaw. I also thought that my tooth might be cracked. It was obvious that Dr. Black was really rough with me and my blood pressure was high when they released me, probably because I was in pain. Five hours of being on the table, and they told my caretaker to just "drunk walk" me into my home. They did not make sure I could take down water, they did not make sure I was safe. I have never heard medical staff use that kind of terminology, especially not knowing what kind of situation I was coming home to - whether there were three stories of stairs or what not. I just know I was in a world of hurt and they told my caretaker they were not on top of my blood pressure, and that it was high yet they released me. I was in so much pain that I started becoming nauseous. I could not sit down nor lay down because I was starting to have problems breathing and I was in so much pain. I tried to take the Norco that my doctor had given me, but I couldn't hold it down Because the pain was already so intense that my system rejected it. At that point my caregiver and I both realized we had no Zofran and that Dr. Black did not send me home with any so my caregiver looked through some of his old medicine and found some Zofran for me, but it didn't work at that point, and it was obvious I was having an emergency. I started bleeding out the back of my head and developed a huge blood hematoma which started cutting off my airway and led me back to the hospital after going to the ER for five more hours of surgery. I literally was almost almost dead. By the time I got there to the ER, I had almost no oxygen in my system Because my airway was being completely blocked. Both of the numbers I had gotten to call in case of emergency after the surgery did not work. My caregiver kept calling and one had voicemail and the other didn't but nobody was checking voicemail and no one called us back. Sutter staff just wanted to get their money and get me out of there. It was an elective procedure and I paid a lot of money - thousands of dollars to almost lose my life to people who are just greedy and think the Hippocratic oath is a joke. I recently went to San Leandro Surgery Center for an endoscopy procedure and it's actually my first time ever needing IV sedation/undergoing a procedure like this. So with it being my first time and not knowing what to expect I was pretty nervous. However, throughout my entire visit, I felt so cared for and comfortable. I really really appreciate how as I went through each step from registration to check in to preparing for the procedure -- each person that I interacted with was always thorough in explaining and answering any questions that I may have. The way that they cared for me really reassured any fears/nervousness that I had. I had to have a foot surgery this morning at the San Leandro surgery center. I was so impressed with the facility staff from registration, to the medical assistant, to the preop and postop nurses, to the surgical nurses, to the anesthesiologist, and of course my doctor. All treated me with such care. I particularly was grateful that Nora was able to start a hand IV with just one stick. And they have little warming fans to keep you warm in preop and postop. So I came here for an epidural with Dr. Mark Chan. I have to say this place was a little dated but overall experience was amazing. The front door person was checking temps, asking COVID questions, and even made me hand sanitizer before coming in. Chairs were neatly spaced about 6ft for social distancing and even gave me a surgical mask to wear during the procedure. My nurse was Carol and she was the sweetest kindest nurse I've ever met. I'm actually a nurse too so that's saying a lot. Surgical team was professional as well. Minus a star for the nurse putting in my IV. She was short and unfriendly. Not very personable if you ask me. Maybe because I was the last case of the day ‍. Would come back for other procedures if it were up to me. read more

Came in this week for sinus surgery as this was the facility where my ENT Specialist performed his procedures. After checking in at the front desk and escorted to the back to prepare for surgery by one of the friendly nurses, I was immediately made to feel very comfortable. The nurses caring for me had a great sense of humor and were also very attentive to my needs. (Anyone who offers me warm blankets scores big points with me!!!) Upon coming to in recovery, the nurse was speedy to get the anesthesiologist on the phone to request additional pain medication for me when I told her the first dose didn't do anything for the pain. This is normally something that takes too long in a regular hospital setting, and I was impressed by how efficient the process was and how quickly my pain was under control. Only negative thing I have to say is I thought it was odd that the discharge instructions were literally conveyed to my husband outside his car in the driveway outside the surgery center. Standard procedure? Not sure. Overall I had a very good experience and would not hesitate to recommend this place to a friend. read more

Came to this surgical center for my mom's procedure. The location is easily accessible from 580 and the parking lot is easy parking. This bad review is because of the facilities and the billing department. We needed a wheelchair and they did not have any available in the front, when I asked the pre-op nurse for one she had bad attitude and was wondering in amazement on why my mom needed a wheelchair. The waiting area is very minimal with no water or coffee machine. The registration was long and they collected upfront the estimated co-pay (this ended up being way more than the actual co-pay and it took us almost 2 months to get the refund). The person at the registration desk also seemed to have problems using the credit card machine as it took her around 15 minutes to process the copay. The pre-op and the post-op nurses inside the procedure were way nicer than the nurse in the beginning and took good care of my mom. read more

Fantastic Facility !! I recently needed septum repair and was fortunate to have been scheduled at the San Leandro Surgical Center. My surgeon, Dr. Rex Moulton-Barrett, felt it would be a good fit for me and he was absolutely correct. Tracy at the welcoming desk was capable, calm and supportive answering every question in a professional and warm manner. Becky, my pre-op nurse, was so very sweet keeping the conversation light as she completed my patient history and started my IV. Nina was reassuring and confirmed important details about allergies. Dr. Black, a masterful anesthesiologist, presented a professional but playful schedule of events. Susan, in post-op, monitored my progress but giggled with me through jokes about the bandages on my face and when I might expect to resume square dancing. I'm sure there were additional caring folks who guided my surgery and kept me safe the 2.5 hours I was under. The facility was clean, calm and professional. Everyone I met was confident and professional but eager to connect with me personally. I couldn't give higher marks to this facility and highly recommend it. read more

I came here for outpatient cataract surgery after visiting Batra Vision. The procedure was expeditious and completely free of pain. I was treated with respect and dignity. After the 20 minute operation I was brought to a recovery area and a nurse observed me for about half an hour whilst I enjoyed coffee and cookies, to ensure that I was lucid. The entire staff is warm, caring, attentive and very professional, especially my anesthesiologist, Ms. Lester, my RN in pre-op, and Ms Lina, my nurse in recovery. I felt scammed, below is the email I sent to the S.L. Surgery Center Aug. 29, 2017 1st appointment San Leandro Surgery Center. Several different people tested my vision with machines in several rooms. Dr. Batral told me about 3 surgery options: 1. no out of pocket cost, correct cataracts only. 2. $1,800.00 each eye to correct cataracts & vision & correct stigmatism in both eyes. But will still require reading glasses. 3. $2,400.00 each eye. I'm unsure of this options amount. To correct cataracts & vision & correct stigmatism in both eyes. Will NO LONGER require reading glasses. I selected option #2 for $1,800.00 each eye and was offered a discount if paid cash. Aug. 30, 2017 return for measurements. Moved thru several rooms and looked into machines till operator was satisfied.. Was ushered to business office where I was told the price for my surgery is $4,800.00. I said "NO", and was shocked, I was told, "wait, I'll talk to the doctor".. On her return she said "$2,000.00 each eye", though still in shock, I then asks the amount of discount for paying cash and was told, "with this low price there is no discount!" Other than one staff member who was not very involved in the organization, ie. assistant level, I found the staff to be excellent. The nurses went out of their way to give me a blanket that was heated and were very caring as they paid attention to the anxiety reducing details. I grew up with more "like-zoned" areas so having a surgery facility mixed in next to other businesses was strange at first. All in all, no complaints. read more

I'm giving them 5 stars because of the amazing nurses, both before and after my preceedure. They made sure I was completely comfortable the entire time. I went in for kinda of an emotional surgery, and they were all so conpassionate. They answered every question I had, no matter how dumb. They really were amazing. On the other hand, the woman who checked me was not. She was pretty cold from the start. When she was checking me in, my husband mentioned one of the reasons I was crying was because I was nervous about being put to sleep, and he asked her if it was necessary. She replied back, "only if she wants to feel it". Really, thats her response to a women crying whose obviously upset. She should of just said that she had no knowledge about it and to maybe ask the doctors. I'm not asking for too much, maybe just a little kindness during a pretty tough time.
