My family's favorite Greek spot! Food is always great and consistent. I have a spunky 1.5 year old, so we opted for take out this weekend. We got the calamari app (the best anywhere) 2 gyro wraps, a gyro platter, and a pita pizza for the munchkin. The staff were very friendly when placing the order and when I ran in to grab it. Came here for dinner with a friend one night. Place is very quaint but has a dressy casual feel to it. Of course making me instantly regret bumming in a pair of sweatpants. The selection of food is standard Greek cuisine (obviously) It didn't appear to be missing anything. I found myself slightly upset when the waiter said the specials merely because I am a vegetarian and hearing sliced, diced, seared, and roasted next to veal and other animals isn't pleasant. I guess I understand since the general population is not. Ordered the hummus, moussaka appetizer without the cheese pie. It was great. Food was very impressive. The moussaka was extremely delicious! We ordered appetizers and dessert as well...but the appetizer was so good that I had to order another one and brought it home as a treat for the next day! Don't hesitate to try this place if you're looking for great food & good service. It must be a local favorite because it was packed and they were doing a steady pickup business as well. We got there just after 5 so it was easy to get a table but the place quickly filled up. My mom & I both went with their 4 course dinner option that was listed on the white board. With the 4 courses you get a soup, salad, main and desert for $20. It was a ton of food! Their Greek salad was exceptional. Thankfully my mom asked if they sold their salad dressing and they do!!! She had shrimp bisque and I had the 6 onion soups...both were great. I went with the Caesar salad which was good but it didn't compare to her Greek salad that was full of creamy feta and that amazing dressing. We shared our mains which were crab ravioli and a eggplant stuffed chicken over angel hair pasta. Both were so good but it was a ton of food so we definitely had to have a to go box. Was very excited about eating here after receiving a recommendation, however upon arrival, we never had an opportunity to enjoy said food. We sat for over 20 minutes without being greeted or even given a menu or a "we will be with you shortly." We watched two others tables get served, both arriving after we did. Even after this, we still weren't greeted nor served. I can only guess that the our race difference could be the cause as the owner said he saw us. Not at all authentic. They are trying to appeal to too broad a base of Italian, Greek and American by modifying the traditional recipes. As far as I am concerned - they didn't hit the target because they didn't know what the target was. I've spent years in Greece and this is not representative of their cuisine. Went last night for dinner and everything was so amazing! We got the four course special and opted for the 6 onion soup which was great. The Caesar salad I got was delicious but my friend got the Greek salad which looked amazing! I got Mahi Mahi for dinner which I wasn't expecting a Greek restaurant to have but it was delicious! I wanted my dinner to be a little healthier so I opted for no rice and extra veggies and they were super accommodating! I don't know where to begin. I asked a friend for advice on Greek restaurants in Metairie and was pointed to Acropolis. I am SO happy they pointed me here, I am absolutely in love. First off, it is extremely hard to spot- if you're not searching for it, or using a GPS you may just pass it by. The parking lot is small, but I believe there is a parking lot in the back as well. We walked in, and were allowed to seat ourselves. My husband ordered the special - Chicken Acropolis and I ordered the Gyro platter. First we were served with a super yummy salad and the food didn't take long after. I was completely shocked at the portion size! The pita bread was fabulous and the meat was cooked perfectly. I suggest you order another order or two of pita bread for two reasons: the pita bread is AMAZING and they give you so much meat that you can't possibly eat it with the amount of bread given. I ate and ate until I was completely full, leaving half the platter left which I took home. My husband managed to finish all of his meal, but absolutely loved it. The only negative I have is that there were roughly 4 tables filled in the dining room including us, and the waitress took forever to bring us our bill or acknowledge us. She really had to do almost everything by herself on the day we went. After we finished eating, it took almost 40 minutes for her to finally bring us the bill. I was so in love with the food that I can't possibly take a star away from them for that. I must say the food at the Acropolis caters more to a western taste but it is as close to the real thing, outside my kitchen I have been able to find in NOLA. After having tried to eat here on at least three separate occasions and always finding them closed, we finally got a chance to eat here. From what I can remember - they're closed on Sundays. Closed between the lunch and dinner hour (I think they reopen at 5pm?). And closed at night during parade season when the Metry parades are rolling (no surprise there, haha). So glad we finally made it, though... because wow, what a surprise! I was immediately struck by how not-strip-mall-ish it looked when we walked in the door. Very small and cozy but you didn't feel like you were sitting on top of your table-neighbors either. Nice little vibe in there. I was definitely expecting more of the typical Mediterranean items on the menu, and the menu itself was pretty small, but there was there looked really amazing. The menu seemed to be a pretty fair mix of Greek and Italian. I ended up having the appetizer sampler that came with spinach and cheese pie, hummus, baba ghannoush, tzatziki (although it was called something else I think?), and pita bread. They had quite a few 4-course specials on the board that looked amazing, but I didn't want to eat that much food (and no, I have no willpower to just stop eating when it's ridiculously good, so let's just get that out of the way now). The veggie lasagna was almost more than I could pass up, though. The guy opted in, though, and got the pan-fried grouper with baked potato and veggies. It also came with choice of soup (artichoke or lentil), a small Caesar salad, and your choice of dessert (baklava or bread pudding). Not bad for $19 bucks! Kiddo had the gyro plate off the kids menu. I was a little disappointed to see only one "authentic" option on the kids menu, and then it was supposed to come with french fries (sacrilege!!) (but they let us sub a small salad for the fries, yay!)... but at least there was SOMEthing there. Don't even get me started on most kids menus, with their grilled cheese / burgers / hot dogs / JUNK JUNK JUNK. :( But I digress.... The food was delicious. Had a bite of kiddo's salad and it was YUM. A little more dressing than I would have liked, but it was really good stuff. Had a bite of the guy's soup (he got the lentil) which I've never had before but was good as well. Had a bite of his fish too, which was also yummy. My spinach and cheese pie was good, although the spinach had a slightly canned taste to it, or something odd in there that made my brain go there? The hummus was fair - a little thicker than I usually like, but no biggie. A little smoked paprika on top would have been the perfect touch, I think. The baba ghannoush was chock full of garlic, not as smooth as I'm used to, and slightly on the oily side. I'm not a huge garlic fan, so I didn't like it as much as some of the other ones I've had, but the guy (who loves garlic) said it was the best one he's tasted yet. So depending on how much you like garlic, your mileage will vary. The tzatziki was delicious and perfect in every way, and I could have eaten a vat of that alone. The pita triangles were warm and soft with that tiny little bit of crisp at the edges and oh so yummy. But the shining star of our table? Kiddo's gyro plate. Holy COW was that some good gyro. It was just fabulous - perfectly seasoned, moist but not dried out, and cooked evenly which I'm finding to be a rare thing. Lots of places seem to have a lot of variation in cooked-ness of the pieces on your plate, ranging from almost-burned to wish-this-had-that-yummy-edge-sadface... but not here (yay!)! The kids portion was a lot larger than I expected, and I honestly wished I would have ordered that instead. Just.... so so good. Our server was just a dear, and took great care of us. Prices were quite reasonable - granted, I only got an appetizer (although it WAS the big one!), but our bill came in just under $50 for the three of us, and the guy had that 4-course thing and two beers. My meal didn't count, but portions seemed large. The guy ended up with lots left over, kiddo couldn't finish his meal (which is a big deal), and I saw a slab of meat at another table that was just ridiculous. We were there at 730(ish?) on a Saturday night, and although they were busy and almost-full, we were able to be seated immediately, which was a far cry from the hour to hour and half wait at some of the other places we considered before remembering about this place. The parking lot is tiny, but I did see a sign that said there is more parking available in the back. High chairs, but no booster seats. So although I didn't like the hummus and baba ghannoush as much as what I get at Babylon Café, the gyro was better and convenience alone bumps it up a notch. Getting from Luling to Metairie? Not a big deal, especially since we're already out there so much. This is the kind of place that we could easily just drop in after running errands all day, whereas NOLA is a bit more out of the way for us. All in all? We'll definitely be back. A lot. read more

In the mood for Greek food? Dont miss this hidden fantastic spot. Tucked away in a tiny strip mall on Veterans, this place has the best hummus I've ever had. I've had several dishes over the last few years: the Moussaka is terrific, the roasted potato soup is great....but I usually always come back to my favorite: the Acropolis salad. This salad has a little bit of everything, feta cheese, tomatoes, Kalamata olives, cucumber, bell peppers, blue cheese, bacon, sunflower seeds, and a wonderful balsamic vinegrette. I usually add grilled chicken or grilled shrimp too. They have greek wines to pair with their menu. They also have some basics in case the kids arent into the traditional menu, such as oven roasted pizzas. The restaurant is family owned, Lenna and her son are usually bussing tables, taking orders, and working behind the bar the whole time. Love these guys and all they do!! read more

We had terrible service, the portions were small and over priced. The Hummus comes with 1 pita sliced into 4-6 triangles (we had 4 adults so we didn't even each get 2 triangles) and the charge .75 for each additional pita. Since the order of hummus was so small we only needed one more order of pita bread. read more

I've been coming to Acropolis for a long time and I haven't ever left disappointed. The restaurant should require everyone who enters to order some of their baba ghanoush because to leave the restaurant without doing so is a crime. All dishes come in very generous portions. It's impossible to leave Acropolis without being sufficiently stuffed (especially since it's so hard to stop eating their gyro meat). While many people tend to avoid getting chicken dishes when dining out, the chicken acropolis (which is a special only served on some nights) will not disappoint. The chicken is topped with perfectly cooked eggplant and rich marinara sauce and is served with angel hair pasta. I've been going to Acropolis since I was 8, and I'll be continually returning until the day I die. read more
