I hired this company to do my pool opening and closing last summer, and had bad experiences with both. First, during the opening, my filter wasn't working properly, and they assured me that I needed to buy a brand new filter from them for $3,500. I was skeptical that I needed a new one, and so I ended up opening up my filter and just washing it off myself with a hose. The result? Worked totally fine all summer long. If I had listened to their "expertise," I'd have wasted $3,500. Glad I didn't. But I decided to give them the "benefit of the doubt" and asked them to do my pool closing at the end of the season, in early September. They failed to actually attach the pool cover correctly, failed to use the actual anchors that I had left out for them in a very visible plastic bowl right near the side of the pool, and left the job with huge gaping holes for debris to fall into the pool all winter long. When I emailed them to tell them that the closing had not been completed, they acknowledged it and told me they would come back to finish. They never did. BUT, they emailed me telling me they had. Well, I have cameras in my backyard, and they definitely never came back. Besides, the pool cover remained open and the anchors were still untouched. I then received a voicemail from them actually threatening legal action (!!) against me if I didn't pay for the closing. Finally, after several more weeks, when all of the debris from the trees had an opportunity to fall into the pool already, they acknowledged that they had LIED about having come back to fix it, and asked for the chance to come back and actually finish the job. I said forget about it. It was too late by then. The debris had already fallen into the pool due to the cover not being properly put back on. So, the job wasn't done right, I was lied to, and I was threatened. But it didn't end there. Finally, after threatening legal action against me if I didn't authorize them to charge my card, and asking me in multiple emails for my authorization (which I did not give), on one random day, five months later, in late February, I noticed that they had gone forward and charged my card anyway. I had to dispute the charge through my bank. Acqua provided my bank with cherry picked out-of-context emails to try to make it look like they did everything right. Luckily, I saved all of the emails and was able to provide the bank with the full picture of what had happened. I am still shocked that they had the gall to try to charge my card five months after they had asked, and not received, authorization to do so. There are a lot of pool servicing companies out there. I would strongly suggest using a different one. Buyer beware. read more

The management leaves a lot to be desired. They are confrontational. The young employees need to be constantly supervised by the home owner, otherwise they will do silly things like spilling chlorine on the lawn or using the incorrect filtering material, which can clog the lines. The best part of the operation are the sales people that staff the front register and the phones. These people are polite and cooperative. read more

We bought a home with a pool that Aqua Pools had closed. Our inspection determined the pool was not correctly closed and winterized, resulting in an increased cost at the time of opening. We (against better judgement) tried to use them again to open and service our pool this season. They told my husband it would be a certain cost to open and clean it and then charged us significantly more. They also were unclear regarding opening and then servicing our pool, as a result opening our pool and then never returning. My husband and I have both called multiple times, without our calls being returned (they are always answered, but not by anyone with any actual knowledge). We feel that they are not responsive, not reliable, and have poor quality of service. We would not recommend this business. read more

Acqua Pools installed my vinyl lined swimming pool in 1979 and I have been a loyal customer of their services ever since. They have done the openings and closings, and handled all repairs and upgrades including replacing the liner twice, the heater and pool cover at least twice, and the Polaris vacuum several times. Up until recently everything has been fine and they had been very responsive. However, in recent years I have had a myriad of issues. 1. A couple of years ago the chlorine generator (which they had installed) evidently failed and kept indicating that the salt level was low. The kept adding salt and it became like the Dead Sea, until they finally concluded that it was an issue with the cell. In addition to having to replace the chlorinator, I had to replace almost 1/3 of the water to get things back in equilibrium. 2. Over the years I have been through several pool vacs. The most recent Polaris which I had purchased from them several years ago was not functioning and they said that they no longer repair that model and I would have to purchase a new one for about $1,000. I found a rebuild kit on Amazon for about $150 and in less than 1/2 hour had it working like new. 3. Several years ago I contracted with Acqua to provide maintenance every other week, but rarely saw a person even though I was charged. I asked them to have the person leave a note that they had been here and what they had done. I even created and sent them a suggested door hanger for them to use with their clients, but that never happened. I ultimately cancelled the service because I suspected that sometimes nobody actually provided the service for which they were charging me. 4. When they opened the pool this year it was green. It turns out that this resulted for their failure to treat it with shock the prior month as had been scheduled with them. As a result they would be unable to vacuum it for a couple more days until it cleared. When that was complete, I called them to perform the vacuum which had been scheduled for a week early and they advised me they were backed up and couldn't do it for another week. I contacted and implored the 1st generation person I had dealt with for 40+ years and he arranged for the pool to be vacuumed. 5. This year I paid them $7,500 to install a new automation system but the system did not provide close to the GPM they programmed. They said it was likely due to the filter being dirty, so I paid them $230 to clean it. The water volume did not improve and I also noticed a puddle of water at the base of the new pump. 6. Then I noticed the pool was not getting warm and found that the gas heater, which had been working before they installed the automation system, was not working. I called for them to repair it and they advised me that it was beyond repair and charged me $4.900 to install a new one. 7. After the new gas heater was installed, I noticed that when the solar pool heater was active, the pump motor would continue to run but no water was going into the pool. I assumed this was either an error in their plumbing of the new gas heater or a programming issue. 8. I contacted them about both the solar pool issue and the leak at the pump however they did not respond to my email nor return my voice mail message. I emailed and asked if their failure to respond meant that, after over 40 years, they no longer wanted me as a customer. They finally emailed back and said that was the case. Apparently, they had come without my knowing it and repaired both of the issues. I don't know what has changed to cause this deterioration in service; perhaps the next family generation taking over, over expansion, or an inability to hire staff, but this is no way to treat someone who had been a loyal customer, who had just paid them $13,700, because they did not like hearing about the issues with their service. read more

Absolute worst possible service in every possible way. First, they opened my pool and left something opened that caused water to flood my backyard and go into the basement; then, they did a filter clean out (not just backwash) that resulted in a cloudy, DE covered pool (more on that later), then they did a vacuum that was apparently done on my system and did not fully clean out the floor of the pool. All of that I could've gotten past if they had actually left my pool in serviceable condition, they did not. They caused damage to my pool equipment and then suggested the most expensive possible fix, a whole new filter assembly (but not a new multi-port valve, that's separate). When I called repeatedly I was told they'd call back or check records. Nope, no calls back. In fact, on the few occasions I got Jim (alleged owner) on the phone, I was hung up on. They once sent someone "to check for leaks", but all they did was do a backwash that resulted in a pool full of even more DE. I asked if they checked for what the problem was and they had the gal to blame me after they had repeatedly failed to do their job. Finally, 2 months in, Jim's son and apparent co-owner called and told me he'd do me a favor for all the frustration and give me a discount on the replacement, $3000 instead of $3300. I repeatedly told him all my research suggests it's just the multi-port that needs fixing or replacing. He said I was wrong (without bothering to look). Two months after opening the pool, we're going into the pool for the first time today after I called three other pool companies who all told me all I had to do was replace the multi-port valve because the filter and grid assembly was fine. In fact, they told me this was likely the case before they even showed up because it was just that obvious. This fix was 1/7 of the price of the Acqua "fix" that would have left the actual problem still standing. Best part was that when I asked them for their insurance information so I could file a claim for the damage they caused, THEY REFUSED TO PROVIDE IT. I'm disgusted with myself for giving this company $6,500 (they installed a pool heater with the pool opening which we have yet to use so we'll see if it works) and 2 months of my time (not to mention how much I wasted in chemicals and water and electricity trying to fix the problem). Save yourself and go to literally anywhere else. read more

I hired them to do a pool opening which they were unable to perform despite three separate trips to my residence. In addition, they had poor communication, did not show up on days when they said they would, and could not grasp the basics of my pool configuration. Stay far away and save yourself the headache and aggravation from a pool company that obviously does not value your business. My neighbor down the street is a former Acqua customer as well - there they recommended a multi thousand dollar fix for a problem that another company completed with a $20 part in 5 minutes. read more

Renovated my 20 year old 28,000 gallon gunite pool in Saddle River. Todd and Tim did an excellent job during a challenging time where the industry is dealing with material backlog, labor shortages, and unusually high demand. They went the extra mile to ensure we were happy with our new patio, plaster, and salt conversion. They also stuck around for several weeks to ensure my water chemistry was on target and that everything functioned properly before giving me some guidelines on how to maintain things going forward (no extra charge). They are professional, dependable and trustworthy. We're thrilled with our new pool and would recommend them to all our friends and family. Five stars! read more

I'm sorry that I'm forced to rate them this high. 1 star is giving these people way too much credit. I had Acqua Pools install my pool and they have been nothing but problems ever since. In the most recent service disaster they installed a new filter pump but failed to ground the the unit. See picture of the empty ground lug. Should there be a malfunction with the pump which causes water to backfeed into the unit we are now at risk of electrocuting everyone in the pool since. The missing ground wire is supposed to trigger the Ground Fault Indicator should there be a problem. I would normally excuse a service mistake but because we've had problems with them in the past I was very detailed about my expectations for this job. Such negligence is simply unacceptable. Don't risk your families lives, find a pool company that takes pride in their work and knows what they're doing. Response to your message: Todd, Yes you offered to fix it, but I had already had it fixed by a professional electrician. However, you're missing the point. What you're effectively saying is that you are a company that makes dangerous mistakes which can electrocute users of your pools; and you rely on the non-professional pool owner to notice your potentially fatal mistake. So you have no quality control and expect the consumer to perform that function. read more

We have spent thousands of dollars at Aqua Pools over the past 10 years. We have purchased a new DE Filter and also a new liner for a 20x40 inground pool. Add that to the yearly opening and closing of our pool and the total spent is way more than the service I have received. This year the pool closing was the last straw. The brand new cover was put on the pool upside down. Really? The leaf net was not put on the cover. A rubber end of a ladder is missing, the skimmer basket in the pump was not emptied and the drain plug is missing. Chlorine tabs were left in the chlorinator and are now crusted on the inside. It was also not removed and stored. As a couple in our 70's, we rely on the service and professionalism of a company. Do not use them. Each employee who has serviced our pool has told us contradictory things. We are done with Aqua Pools. read more

It's has been one year since they installed our pool. My wife put the initial review (Kristin B.) as I evaluate Acqua Pools post installation I can't say enough good things. To start I have knowledge of doing the basics chemicals, basic troubleshooting etc. Here are my experiences 1. I was very skeptical about the Polaris vacuum they included with our install. Initially we had lots of dust and debris with the pool / patio install. The vacuum was clogged and wasn't working correctly acqua was always accountable no questions asked came out several times to troubleshoot and fix. The owner told me it's the best vacuum. I have relatives that own pools and I was more accustom to the aquabot / dolphin vacuum hence my skepticism but now I completely agreed the Polaris is the best vacuum for day to day maintenance. I keep a spare vacuum bag and every few days swap out the bags. I let the bag dry out for a day making it much easier to clean, debris just falls out. 2. I was having an issue with my salt generator. Todd (owners son) and I connected daily via email and he was always accountable. He sent guys to troubleshot and address on multiple occasions. FYI the water chemistry can be a little whacky the first year causing some issues. 3. This year just basic questions via email and they ALWAYS respond. 4. Finally I went for the first time to their retail store. They were very helpful. As I am leaving I noticed the office which deals with installs. They have a bulletin board with 2015, 2016, 2017 pool details. In my opinion this truly shows how much this company cares about it customers and their work. RUN the other way!!! Absolute WORST company I have ever dealt with!! They came to open my pool & clean the backwash- 24 hours after that my pool is draining water from somewhere and we lost 12-15" of water!!! Called them DAILY to ask if someone can come by and check it they told me "TOMORROW" EVERY DAY for a week!! EVERY day NO ONE showed up!!!! They told me and my mother that since we weren't 20 year customers they wouldn't come!! So in other words they did something to my pool that they are hiding from and don't want to admit to!! Their customer service SUCKS! The one who answers the phone will ask you 1000 times how to spell your name and your address then put you on hold for 20 minutes and then come back and ask who you are holding for and then ask you to spell your name again! I would say that this is the best pool company I've ever been to. They are always nice to the customers, They are always on time. They have wonderful pools toys that are a little pricy, but it is all worth it. Most pool companies employees are not friendly to the customers, but Aqua Pools employees are. Kids love their pool toys and adults love their pools. I highly recommend this pool company. read more

We have used acquapools to service our pool over the last year and have been pleased with the service. They are prompt and seem able to quickly solve any problems we have with our pool. They are not the cheapest but we have been through a number of other companies that can never come out when you need them or struggle to get the pool looking great. read more

We have hired them to install our pool and have been so happy with the experience. They attended town meetings with us to get the approvals and have gone above and beyond to make us feel comfortable. They started putting the pool in and had an issue where they had to stop for a few days (beyond their control). They began to dig the pool again on Wednesday and by Friday we are putting water in it already! Talk about service! Having been a customer with Acqua Pools for two summer's I can accurately speak about the company. Everything was great until I started to experience problems with my pool running properly. Opening and closings went smoothly along with routine maintenance. In the summer of 2018 my water was no longer clear often contained algae or cloudy water. After the first visit in June in which they chemically treated the water and backwashed the filter the water was clear for two days. Before I go further let me say that they didn't notify me of what chemicals they used. A bill was left in my mailbox that simply said "Chemicals added" and "Filter backwashed" now call me crazy but that is pretty vague for a bill that was $150.00. What chemicals did you add? The next visit which was a week later I received the same bill after the visit. Two weeks later after the pool still was cloudy they then came back and stated that they cleaned the salt cell and added chemicals. Now with it being a few days before the 4th of July I again contacted them and expressed my frustrations. After the third visit they know informed me that my filter cartridge needed to be replaced. When I asked them how much it would cost they informed me of the price which was close to $900. After arguing about how I wanted money back for the chemical treatment they agreed that they would refund me for one of the treatments. My reason for arguing was due to the fact that it took 3 visits to diagnose the problem which was unacceptable. Jim informed me that I would receive a refund at the end of the season or I would receive a credit. Well I never received either as of this review. And btw I bought the filter cartridge myself on amazon for $249.00 and installed it with the help of my father in law. I guess they were gonna charge close to $600.00 in labor. read more

My first experience with this company was pretty terrible. To be fair this experience occurred during Memorial Day weekend,and perhaps the busy season made it difficult for them to accommodate. I called with a request to backwash, vacuum, and chemically treat an in-ground pool that we had just opened for the season. long story short, I was told the pool was backwashed, "shocked" and vacuuned and received an invoice for "pool vacuum". I had to call another company to treat the pool and turn on the filter, and when the pool cleared up it was still full of leaves and dirt and debris. I called acqua asking for another vacuum since there was a ton of debris in the pool, and again was told someone would calle back. I received a message shortly thereafter saying i'd need to pay for another service because it wasnt within 24 hours of the original service. So i wrote a long detailed email with a picture attached explaining the situation, and to their credit they came right away to re-vacuum for no additional charge and called to follow up to make sure it was complete. So they eventually did right but it took a lot of effort from me, and it seems pretty unorganized. The effort after my email to correct my grievance is why I gave it 2 stars instead of 1. It's especially too bad too because I was using this as a way to vet a good long term pool company to install a new in-ground pool and maintain it. I did find a good company for this new project, and it was the company I called after Acqua didn't complete my original request. read more
