I checked out this place after multiple yelp reviews. Went big and ordered the chicken fried Benedict. It was SUPERB. Gravy was super flavorful. The biscuits were fluffy and fresh tasting. Chicken had a tasty crispy coating and the meat inside was tender. My 18 month old son had pancakes and helped devour my plate too. Friendly servers who didn't mind the mess he left behind. I was FLOORED when asked to leave right after paying. That was really rude and I will not recommend this place. Food was fine, the waitress was great and was tipped well. What happen, is that right after paying, a few minutes later as my friend and I were finishing up our conversation, getting ready to leave, this guy comes to our table and asked if we paid, and if we can give up our table. A nicer way of telling us to leave. We just said yes we paid and left. We weren't able to finish our conversation, but as soon as we left the building my friend and I were in shock that we were asked us to leave. There wasn't even very many people waiting. As soon as you finish paying, you are a waste of space to them. I will not recommend acme cafe. The guy that asked us to leave, was the boss. RUDE!! read more

Food is good when they actually give you what you've paid for! Honestly Why would a person call to ask why is this not what I ordered and paid for. Then told by the cook or proprietor that they "hooked" it up with more food than was actually given and to top it off that we should be thankful for them giving me jalapeno pepper biscuits (which I would NEVER order due to dr.s orders). Then was spoken to rudely and was also taken back by how he said I'll see u next time and he'd make it extra special and that did not sound like a good thing. The chicken fried steak was very good only complaint was how easily the breading fell off and the Homemade gravy is top notch. The potatoes are great as well as their Homemade berry jam. The ACME Cafe has been going a year now, so we dropped in to see how they are doing. Two at the table ordered the Deluxe Grilled Cheese Sandwich (Parmesan and Garlic Buttered Texas Toast, filled with Cheddar and Swiss cheeses / $8.50). They thought the proportion of bread to cheese was off -- too much bread -- and that it was too expensive for a grilled cheese sandwich. Where is the Deluxe? I had Don's Big Skillet** (bacon, ham, home fries, mushrooms, onions and peppers, topped with three scrambled eggs, Cheddar Cheese and sausage gravy, and wheat toast / $13.00). I found it delicious. The building itself is great, and our server was quick and efficient (Thank You, Deidra). One of the most interesting venues I've discovered in a long time. The decor is trendy and what with the deafening Muzak one would think it a magnet for a younger crowd, but nearly every patron I saw at lunch was a senior. This is not at all the atmosphere of senior favorites like OPH, but I'm strongly inclined to return---at early or odd hours, when the rooms might be quieter. They serve from the breakfast menu until 2:00. I had a half order of biscuits and (sausage) gravy and it was generous in portion, very competent, but the seasoning not distinctive. Personally, I wish chefs would experiment with a sausage with kick, like chorizo or Italian hot. Coffee is excellent, roasted by K&E in Portland to Acme's specifications. Good value by my lights. As a previous employee. Both myself and my 15 yr old son were not supported. As we were both verbally and physically abused. There is an actual case pending trial. Tom berated and belittled my son over his "hair" because one day he didn't have his hat (someone stole it from out lockers) he continued to make my son feel less than worthy of working there if he wasn't willing to "chop his hair off" and called me a bad mom for not making him do it. My son showed up every day! Put his head down and worked and did his job. Never did a single thing wrong. All the wrong was in part by Tom and Jesse the owners of this "fine friendly establishment " They've never owned a restaurant before and it's obvious considering how they treat their employees. No support. Just judgment and shadow following of everyone that is there for them making them money to stay in business. I have eaten at Acme since their inception and as I know their other restaurants in town, my expectations were high. I wasn't disappointed at first but as they've settled into their area, I think they've become a little less unique and therefore stunted in the growth and development of their menu. The food is good, parking is reasonable, it is easy to find, outside seating in the summer is cozy. The service is fine. I used to go here fairly regularly. I really wish the new owners success. It is a nice space. Unfortunately, lately, the food and service have been a disappointment. With my most recent visit on an early St. Paddy's day, I ordered one of the specials, a pastrami sandwich with an egg on top. It was a nice serving of meat but the driest pastrami I've ever been served. The side of potatoes was undercooked, soggy, and cold with flecks of wet onion that seemed to be steamed. With the high cost of having breakfast out these days, one can do better a few other places in town. read more

This my honest review after 4 recent visits within the last 2 months. The first time we had breakfast there we had the chicken and waffles and mimosas. The food was good, drinks were good but the server double charged us and we still haven't seen the reversed on our end. Second time we had the same thing and it was over cooked chicken and the waffles were cold. Third time was for lunch and the service was very slow. The food was ok, waters were not refilled and it took us asking another server for the check. During the lunch hour on a weekday this was surprising. The last time was this morning and We asked what the special was and the server told us the special was prime rib hash. So we split that. It was not good. The "gravy" (sauce?) was gritty, there were 8 tiny pieces of prime rib split between the two and were mainly fat and gristle and our eggs were undercooked. The server never came back to check on us, and when she seated the table next to us she told the woman that she only had one of the bacon Cinnamon roll pancakes left and wanted to let her know since she knew she liked them. Would have been nice to be told there were more specials than just the hash but instead she was "holding out" for a friend. The owner (?) came and got our half eaten plates after we sat there for a while clearly done. We asked him for our check. 4 minutes later the server showed up with our check, never once did anyone ask how our meal was. One more note to the ownership: the way you are cleaning your floor is a safety hazard. It is very slick. There are specific cleaners that should be used on vinyl plank and it feels like you are cleaning it with the same greasy mop from the kitchen. I slipped on my way out and I'd hate to see an older person fall in your restaurant. Salem is lacking quality breakfast restaurants. There's a market for it and this place has a lot of potential but it is clearly needing some improvements. read more

I really enjoyed brunch at acme. Though the service could be worked on. The Salmon Benedict was very good. It was a special that day, and I had it with a gluten free bun. The gluten free bun was very good, I wanted to know where they got them. The cups of coffee are refillable (which I'm always a fan of during brunch). I also had a Marion Berry mimosa, which was delicious when it finally arrived but I waited like 45 minutes to get it. Over all a good experience and I would happily go again. read more

2.5 stars My boyfriend has been waiting to try the food here, so one day we decided to come here for brunch. It was pretty busy but we were sat quickly by a waitress. I had a coffee and my boyfriend had their Acme beer. It is kind of like a michelada, but not that spicy. We added Tabasco in it to make it taste a little bit better. My coffee was always filled to the brim which was nice. We shared a sticky bun (maple and bacon). The waitress asked if we wanted it warmed up - so I assume it's not made in house and/or wasn't fresh. It wasn't that great of a sticky bun and would not order it again. I had the salmon benedict (their special) and my boyfriend had their chicken fried benedict. The eggs were overcooked, but the smoked salmon was really good. The caper cream cheese was a wonderful addition and I'm glad I didn't ask to take it off. The chicken fried benedict was pretty good, but the gravy just didn't have much more flavor - we added a lot more salt and pepper to it. The other issue I had was that they advertised the salmon benedict for $14, but charge you $15. I didn't bother to bring it up because it's only $1, but I would assume they do this to everyone and it seems so bothersome to have them redo the check for $1. Would I come back? Maybe if my boyfriend really wanted to come back, but on my own, no. read more
