Delicious!!! Went in for a premade cake before an event and they were able to quickly write a personalized message which was wonderful. The cake itself was a double (maybe triple?) fudge cake. Nothing super fancy here but they do a great job. Picking up a baby shower cake and placed the order at the last minute. As always Ace came to my rescue! Whipped cream and strawberry filling mmm mm mmm! Now I will say the edges were a smudged in a couple places. I asked the cashier to touch the edges up a little. SHE SCRAPED THE ENTIRE TOP OFF AND DECORATED IT AGAIN!!! I applaud the initiative but she should have told me first. I ordered my boyfriend's 30th birthday cake from Ace's Bakery in May and words can't describe the way this cake came out. I was beyond impressed. I ordered a marvel character cake with comics laid out all around the cake--and I was floored at how it turned out. It looked exactly like the photo illustrated. The baker, Rose, was very personable and willing to work with me on details and the price which I really appreciated. Thanks Rose! Not to mention her daughter kicks butt in designing cakes. The cake itself was great! Moist, flavorful, and the strawberries were huge in the filling. I couldn't be more impressed. Not to mention my boyfriend shed tears when he saw his cake. I should've learned my lesson a yr ago when I ordered a cake for my male friend and the colors of rose gold was stated on the receipt and when I went to pick up the cake it was hot pink , to add that my celebration was that day . And I tried to give this place a try again and lord be hold a major issue with my daughters tier cake the whole entire cake was extremely bitter!!!! When I called the store the following day after my daughters birthday and when I asked for the scumbag owner Norbert he was nowhere to be found and when I called same thing!!! My family and I have purchased cakes from Ace Bakery for years. My granddaughters 10th Birthday was on September 5, 2020. We had a small socially distanced gathering to celebrate her. We ordered two 8in round cakes and were charged approximately $100 for both. Although the decorations were beautiful the cakes were inedible. One cake in particular was a personal one that the birthday girl requested and was to be flavored coconut it was not, it was simply a plain white cake and it was very dry. The second cake was marble and was also quite dry, the initial party goers that received a slice threw theirs away and others based on the reactions they were seeing refused to eat them. Therefore, we were left with approximately a little less then 3/4 of that cake. We immediately called the bakery and they told us to bring them in on today. The cakes were stored in the freezer for the weekend to preserve them until they could be returned. We took them in today as requested and were refused a complete refund because we were told that we took pictures during the party with the cake and the decorations on them were nice although the cake wasn't satisfactory??? We were offered a $22 refund for each cake, which cover a the cost of the cake itself but not the decorations.....I'm so confused.....if almost two complete cakes are returned to you it's obvious that there was an issue. However to not only ruin a child's only special request on their birthday but to insult the parents because of what you've experienced with "other" customers in the past is purely unacceptable. I explained to the manager Norbert that we have purchased cakes for years for special occasions and have popped in for treats now and again and have not been usually been disappointed. The way that we were spoken to as well as treated shows that there is no care or consideration for long term customers or otherwise. Lisa Pack, the absentee owner as we were told is aware of the situation and will call us this afternoon....I'm not holding my breath, they can't even answer the phone in a reasonable amount of time. I'm so disgusted and disappointed I don't know what to do! As a small business owner myself what is most disappointing is that they are simply taking their customers for granted, which is never something that you should do...each sale is personal, they fell completely short this time and they don't care! read more

The worse experience ever. I went in to order a cake for my brothers baby shower and I settled on a sculpted name cupcake cake. I even sketched out how I wanted it and we decided on the colors to be swirl red and gold. I paid in full up from and was informed that it would be more than the stand 24 cupcakes and for $115 you would think it would be enough for 50 people as I stated. The day to pick up the cake I wanted to cry. The colors looked more orange and red. It was only 30 cupcakes and it was not outlined in black icing. I had no choice but to take it because I wasn't getting any help to fix it from the people there. I later found out from the mother to be that the cupcakes were hard. I tried for weeks to get a least a partial refund because I don't have any events coming up within the next year and I haven't received any help from the managers or owner. Ordered two cakes 3 days ago, picked them up this afternoon to them looking nothing like the way they were supposed to. They forgot to write my entire message on the cake, I wanted an all white cake but instead got a black cake with black writing. You can barely see what the cake says due to them not using different colors. When brought to their attention, the customer service we received was horrible and rude. They said they were unable to fix the cake and were being very rude. Thankfully for the decorator in the back who came out and talked to us and redid one of the cakes. Their cakes aren't cheap so I expect to get what I paid for. I'm a decorator myself and never would I ever give a customer a cake that looks like the one I uploaded. This review is for the food out of the display case; I've never had their cakes (which seem to be the focus). I was in the area to go to a different bakery and saw a long line, so figured "why not?" It turned out most of the line was complicated cake orders, but the smaller baked goods in the cases looked reasonably appealing, so I figured I might as well. It wasn't really worth it. The cannoli was stale, the donuts were unexceptional, and I can't even remember what else I had. Not the best bakery in the world, but not the worst either. This morning i found myself in need of a coffee and a doughnut, thanks to some pesky cravings courtesy of "Aunt Flow". The place is well stocked with tasty looking sweet things in very clean looking cases. I was tempted to try a piece of cake but i stuck to my original plan because if I didn't I knew I'd still want a coffee and doughnut till I got one. I picked up two chocolate frosted cake doughnuts, two cherry turn overs, just because they looked so yummy, and a large coffee. My total was $3.68 which is a pretty good deal for four pastry items and a large coffee. I found out that one of the doughnuts came free with my coffee which is nice. However I had to wait for my coffee. No big deal. I was a little annoyed that there was no real cream or milk to put in it, just icky carnation creamer, AND their coffee stiry-thingies are too small for a large cup. I burned my fingers. The coffee was not the best in the neighborhood like the sign says, but it at least was hot and had caffeine. I liked my cake doughnut just fine, but it was a little to fluffy for me, I'm used to cake doughnuts that are a little more heavy. The cherry turnover was yummy, but had too much of the pastry and not enough filling IMHO. So this is a nice stop if you need a coffee and doughnut in a pinch, but nothing to go out of your way for. Next visit I will try some cake and update, because if the cake is as good as it looks they will earn another star. read more

I live right down block, so we're literally neighbors, they had a great buy 1 get 1 free deal with the muffins, both were really good, I did the blueberry and the strawberry cream cheese ones, and coffee was really low price as well, I spent like $3 total in there for a whole meal. Extremely well stocked, versatile bakery. They even have coffee and cappuccino to go. They are known for their racy bachelor/bachelorette cakes, but they make imaginative children's cakes as well. I had a baking mishap and needed a dessert to bring to a party. I first stopped at Bridgeport Bakery, and they didn't have anything ready. Ace had a huge selection of cakes, individual desserts, and cookies. I brought the chocolate/strawberry cake to the party and it was a huge hit. Everybody loved it. I give Ace Bakery 1 star because of their flexibility and accommodations to last minute orders. I recently ordered a wedding cake within a 3 weeks notice and they were very flexible and said they would make it. Needless to say the cake was beautiful with the decorations I provided, but the taste was bland. The cake was so dry, it literally crumbled with the fork. The guests ended up eating crumbs of cake. Seriously we could not get a good decent slice of cake because it would just fall apart due to how dry it was. read more

The people who work here are always happy and able to answer questions. I have come both in the early morning and mid afternoon hours and the bakery is pretty well stocked and the staff are always on point. The bakery cases are huge and not stocked to the brim, so it seems like they are kind of empty. But if you look further, you see they have plenty of each item to offer, its just that the cases are so big, its hard to pack them full. I usually get the large coffee and doughnut combo, it's under $2 which is a steal. They do have real cream and also sugar substitute behind the counter if you ask for it, no need to use the powdered cream or "real" sugar if that's not your thing. My FAVORITE thing about this bakery is the seating area. You can sit here with company or just by yourself and enjoy your coffee/bakery item in a clean, cute environment. No need to subject yourself to the nastiness that is DD in the mall on 31st and Halsted. Also, they have sesame street cupcakes that are ridiculously adorable. I was SO close to buying my son one, but I decided to wait til he's a bit older b4 I give him all that sugar. (he's not even 1 yet, but loves Elmo) Their cake slices are pretty dry, but they are really pretty. I'm not a cake eater, at all, which is why I go for a doughnut or cookie when i'm here. read more

A true faithful client to Ace bakery. I was very disappointed when I cut into a birthday cake that I picked up Friday afternoon I placed the order on Thursday September 14, 2019. There was barely any strawberries in the cake, the cake was not moist and the texture of the icing was terrible. It was not mixed well because you could still taste the grains of sugar in the icing! I was very disappointed in Ace bakery I feel like they may need to change somethings to stay relevant and keep their loyal customer base .My review is not to tear them down... my review is to open their eyes to their performance and hope that it encourages them to change things so they can continue to be a successful business. read more

Spent 30 minutes explaining specifically what I wanted, & when I picked the cake up it did not look like what I expected. Butter cream was not smooth & it had holes & cutes in it. All the staff could do was come up with excuses as to why the cake wasn't to my liking. I was told no manager was there. When I asked who was running the bakery & no one had answered. I've order cakes from here since I was a kid & they have fell off tremendously form the cake decorating to the customer service. One of the ladies couldn't even spell correctly & I had to reiterate spelling to her several times. She didn't even know how to spell jersey.
