I LOVE THIS BAKERY! I stumbled upon this on lace while visiting the ramen restaurant across the street and now I HAVE to stop in anytime I am in the area. Outstanding huge selection of desserts from cookies, cupcakes, cake slices, poundcake slices, brownies, pie slices, bread, donuts, cheesecakes and so much more. And it is SO affordable! Like I felt like I was in a time warp the prices were so good! I tried about a dozen items for a little over $25! I will say there is usually a wait when I visit, lots of people ordering custom cakes so you know it is good and it is definitely worth the wait. Clean, friendly staff and definitely a must visit if you are in the Bridgeport area of Chicago. read more

5 stars for professionalism 5 stars for store and cake presentation The actual flavor of the cake was great. I would have preferred the cake to be a little bit more moist but we were pleased with the cake over all. Ordering was seamless and they actually listened to what my daughter wanted for her birthday cake. Thank you Ace! read more

BEWARE OF DISHONEST OWNER -- Completely Ruined an 80th Birthday This owner does not take accountability for his or his employees' mistakes. I prepaid nearly $300 for a special, symbolic gold and white "hat" cake for my aunt's 80th birthday. Instead, I was met with hostility and left in tears with an entirely incorrect cake on the day of the party. The Timeline: * Thursday: I called to reschedule the Friday (8/14) pickup to Saturday. The bakery put me on hold for 20 minutes because they lost my receipt. Once found, a very distinct employee (the only young Black male working there) explicitly confirmed a Saturday (8/15) pickup at 12:00 PM. * Saturday: I arrived at 3:00 PM. No cake was ready. The owner (a white man) aggressively claimed he personally spoke to someone who changed the date to Monday, 8/17. When I asked who he spoke with, he literally said, "I don't know" because this was straight up BS. * The Confrontation: Instead of showing empathy 3 hours before a landmark party, the owner became accusatory. He demanded to know why he would have told his baker Monday if I hadn't said so. He refused to acknowledge he simply mixed up his orders and there was no apology. The Outcome: They offered a late delivery and a measly $50 refund on a $300 order. What they actually delivered was a red and white cake with absolutely none of the gold accessories or the requested design. They charged me premium money and just gave me whatever random cake was convenient for them. While I waited in tears, I watched them apologizing to multiple other customers for separate mistakes. They have plenty of practice apologizing which amounts to $0, but zero skills in customer service or order accuracy. DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY HERE! read more

I am disappointed with my experience. We purchased a custom baby shower cake for approximately $390. The cake was transported upright and secured in the vehicle and never fell. Upon arrival, we discovered that the cake had shifted and sustained damage while still inside the packaging. When we contacted the bakery, we were immediately blamed for the damage and accused of transporting the cake improperly. At no point were we provided with a written transport policy, liability waiver, or handling instructions before pickup. Despite this, the bakery refused to discuss a reasonable resolution and was dismissive throughout the interaction. My biggest issue was not the damage itself, but the lack of professionalism and customer service when attempting to address the problem. read more

The lady at the front was super friendly and helpful. I wanted a slice of vanilla cake with buttercream but they were out. I ended up trying a slice of caramel cake and this banana boat pastry. Both were good but the cake was a tad dry. Their prices weren't bad. I still prefer Orland Park Bakery or Weber Bakery though. read more

I have always been a fan or ace bakery , they have so many options for last minute and planning ahead . The team there is very accommodating and always aims to please ! I see Some of the bad reviews and I think they are rare instances that someone had an issue (which let's be honest all service industries do ‍) . Most people only leave reviews for something negative instead of a positive experience . Let's break that culture My family all order from here and we love the atmosphere and the experience .- for pastries : the mini upside down pineapple cakes are to die for !!! It's hard to find a place to customize a cake in Chicago without ridiculous prices where you can order with ease, and ace makes that possible every time ! read more

If it was possible to give 6 stars I would because not only was the custom cake I ordered delicious but it was also beautiful. I've had other cakes with fondant that are pretty, but don't taste good and this cake blew any I've had in the past out of the water. The bakery was so accommodating and made it with four days notice and I couldn't be happier with the results. Highly recommend! read more

They're nice enough. I asked for a German chocolate cake and they offered one they'd just made. I was excited that I was able to walk out with my mom's favorite cake. What I wasn't told is that they don't make German chocolate cake. They make chocolate cake with chocolate icing and cover it with coconut frosting on top. SUPREMELY DISAPPOINTED. This should have been communicated. Nobody liked the cake. Wasted $60. read more

Third time here it was a laughably rude experience that will have me no longer try again. Went in to buy two pies for friends at my church. Waited behind woman and child who were also waiting. Finally bored looking woman walks up to register and tells her that they're closed and she won't take her order. The woman is confused and says, "I've been waiting here..." and the employee said, "i was busy." The time on my watch gave it 10 more minutes. but regardless, who turns away paying customers eager to shop at a local bakery? I probably shouldn't have, but i said this aloud, "you want to turn away two customers?" The woman literally stuck out her tongue at me, waggled her hands, and walked away. It was so rude it was funny (too bad she wasn't just making a joke). But you can't make this stuff up. So avoid this one. In Bridgeport lots of other local family bakeries to support: try Impallaria or Bridgeport Bakery for starters. read more

The cake was decorated beautifully and really met our expectations for our 3 year old's birthday. But the flavor was incorrect, it was chocolate instead of golden which was specifically ordered. In addition you can't get a hold of anyone over the phone. either the mailbox is full or you keep having to leave a message. I went there to speak to them, the manager was not there and supposed to call me and I never received a call. I cannot recommend a bakery that is so unreliable. I'm looking forward to another local bakery opening up this year. read more

Amazing amazing amazing job Andi and the team at Ace Bakery did! I came about one week in advance to set up the idea of the cake and they responded right away on email with the idea I had and told me they would be able to do it! Also gave a great understandable price with all the details I was asking to do on the cake. Always responded and even tho it was mad busy they were respectful. Not sure why some of the people had a bad review on the business because they have been great every time I go. I have been a customer for about 5 yrs and I have never had bad service. Honestly you have to treat people how you want to be treated and you will not have a bad experience. Also very busy establishment so you can't expect express help. Angie thank you again for the cake. Also my mother in law order one with you guys Cecilia and made the Bendi cake amazing for my husbands son as well and I didn't know you guys made it too!!!! Thank you and I appreciate your work and dedication. read more

If I could give this place NO stars I would.. 1st of all.. the pastries are not that tasty.. DRY even for the price that they are asking for. Also I was treated very poorly when I went to the store I felt as if my business was not wanted after asking about a cake order.. they were kind of rude. My girlfriend and I wanted to get some pastries, but we were not greeted in a kind fashion and I hate to be this person.. but I over heard the manager/ worker say that she wished another employee was fired..(the employee she was speaking of was a person of color.. and she was not.) She said it loudly and with disgust.. it felt derogatory and it was obvious that she wanted the other people in the shop to hear her.. and she said it multiple times and it was a sweet girl who I aways see working the front desk and is kinder that the woman speaking. I only go because I wanted to support the local shop but honestly the cakes/pastries are not worth the time money or disrespect. This place does not have great food nor service. read more

Great customer service. Have excellent cakes. I highly recommend. I will always come back to get cakes and cookie

I was so disappointed in this bakery. Upon entering for my very first time, I was intrigued, excited, and hopeful! The bakery itself is very inviting and the work displayed looks amazing. We even tried a few treats the day we placed our order, that were good. I gave pictures of my wants and and discussed it with the person taking my order. I did however think it was pricy but I needed to get an order placed before it was too late. When I picked my cake up I was so disappointed! The cake looks nothing like the pictures I showed them. They clearly did what they wanted to do with my order! When I complained, the lady made excuses and offered me $15 off which was unacceptable! I continued to complain as she made excuses about the person who usually does fondant being out, which isn't the customers problem. If they felt they couldn't handle the order, they shouldn't have accepted it! At the time of pick up, I felt I needed the cake because my son's party was the next day. The lady then told me she could only offer a $25 dollar discount at most. My cake ended up being about $150 for a 9in round cake that they completely screwed up. I was told to contact the manager blah blah. It's important to mention that there were TWO other families in the bakery complaining during my time there as well. I feel like the manager could have reached out to me. I will never use this business again. I should also mention that the cake was dry and there didn't seem to be any purée with the strawberry filling. A complete waste of money, I should have decided to just leave it and not pay the remaining balance. A jewel's cake would have topped this! read more

I have 3 daughters so I always ordered my daughter's cakes here in the past. I stopped going there couple years ago and In April 2020 I went back because my daughter wanted a unicorn cake. I love the cake and how it's decorated so pretty how I wanted it. The cake isn't the problem it's the customer service. That is why I gave it 3 stars. When we went to order the cake their was a Hispanic young lady around her early 20s and she just gave me attitude and it seemed like she did not wanna be there at all. I say if you don't like your job then don't work there and find a job you will be happy at so you can treat your customers nicely and friendly. The cakes aren't cheap at all they are expensive especially if you are ordering one just the way you want it . So If I am paying over 100 dollars for a cake then you should treat your customers with some respect!!! read more

*Sigh* Where do I start? My mother and I get there the Wednesday, two days before my cousin's son's graduation. The first thing I noticed was that the overall decor and look of the place was a little outdated. While we were waiting to place the order for the cake, another customer was quite upset about the cupcakes she got. They made the pictures on her cupcakes way too small for the size of the cupcakes. The lady basically just said sorry, their mistake, and that was that. Seeing that upset customer made me think it was a bad idea to order a cake from there, however, it wasn't for my party, nor was it my own cake. Problem 1 My cousin wanted a vanilla cake with strawberry filling. They said the don't do vanilla cakes. Wtf??? Vanilla is one of the basic flavors you should have for a cake. It's part of the chocolate, strawberry, vanilla trio. How do you not make vanilla cakes at a bakery?? They could do yellow cakes. Fine. The fondant on the cake was supposed to be maroon and gold for the school colors. They said they don't do metallics, so the closest "gold" fondant color we could get is yellow. -_-' Problem 2 They charged for literally everything. My cousin wanted a book cake with a banner saying Class of 2016 and a cap. They charged $10 for the banner, $2 for each letter on the banner, and $10 for a cheap looking plastic cap. When we got the cake, however, they made the cap out of fondant and cake because the plastic one was too small for the size of the cake. They didn't charge for that but my cousin still payed for the plastic cap that didn't end up on the cake. Problem 3 The price was $195, down payment of $95. From the looks of the other cakes I knew the cake wasn't worth the price. You could see bumps and waves under the fondant from where the cakes were uneven so I wasn't expecting anything great come the day of the graduation. But I kept my mouth shut because it wasn't my cake, it wasn't my party and I just wanted my cousin and her son to have a good time. Oh, and cancellation was 20% of the order. Now for the actual cake. It tasted like freaking box cake. Mofo-ing Betty Crocker box cake. The strawberry filling was some artificial syrup with some strawberries chopped in it (at least those were real). You could tell they didn't make the filling and that it was something artificial and pre-made from a container that they mixed with strawberries and put inside the cake. The ratio was off. You know the cakes you get that have 70% frosting and 30% cake? Yeah. The fondant was cracking, the buttercream was artificial and grainy, ugh!!!! Gees, basically everything about this cake was bad and for $200?? Not acceptable. What were they charging for? Because the quality of the ingredients were crap. If they're charging for skill they need reevaluate their whole business because the skill just isn't there. The cake was worth no more than $40. Seriously, save your money and go elsewhere like the Swedish Bakery. If you're pressed to time and want a quality cake, I would honestly just go to Whole Foods. read more

A few years ago (yes this is way overdue) I heard that Ace Bakeries had great erotic cakes, so of course I had to check them out. While they are more relevant for bachelor or bachelorette parties, I didn't have any coming up at the time so I got a butt cake for my friend's birthday. It was a huge hit! Her initial reaction was to grab both cheeks (picture attached). The salvageable portion was delicious - very light with fantastic whipped cream frosting. Plus, the cake was really reasonably priced for how big it was. I've recommend them a few times since, and I'd definitely make the trek back to Bridgeport again. You know when you're just a little hungry and need just a little something...something. Ace is the place, nah not for nuts and bolts but for a cupcake. This is a regular unpretentious neighborhood bakery. A well rounded selection of cakes, cookies and well that bakery stuff. A couple of round tables if you just can't wait to get your sweet on until you get home or even back to your car. The cupcake, was darn good not anything to rave about. It was a cupcake, let's not get all gourmet about it. I brought home some cookies, those were good too. What I really liked about it, was the way I was greeted. This was my first time in the place, and I'm sure they have their regulars. They made me feel like one of them. We're doing a little house hunting now, and always while looking around I like to try out the local businesses to get a feel for the area. There's a possibility that I just may find myself around here a little more often. read more
