    Star Wars cookie

I have used Windy City twice, both times for large events, and was impressed on both occasions. The first was a holiday cookie decorating party; Sarah provided the cookies and tubes of frosting and assorted other fixings, and stayed to show all the students (this was a University of Chicago event) how to create beautiful cookies. The second was a May the Fourth Star Wars celebration. Sarah brought Star Wars decorated cookies and cupcakes, all of which we so adorable (and tasty). Needless to say, we will be repeating these events next year, with a new crop of students! Couldn't be happier with her work.

I shared that I just moved to the area from Vegas and I had been following the store and I wanted to try! This gracious soul walked me in and introduced me to her beautiful staff who were sweet as cake! Kesha was leaving but I so appreciative of her time with me:) Now it was time for the biz! I had the ladies walk me through the flavors and they explained the deep fried pound cake! I ordered a flight: peach cobbler, double batter, strawberry and cookie batter. I also got a scoop of chocolate ice cream and a slice of lemon pound cake. The shop is so super cute!!! I loved it and I felt right at home. I got my treats to go so I could share with my Hubby. Oh wow!!!! We LOVED IT!!! The flight was amazing! Fresh, hot and yummy! So glad I found this gem!

I drove over an hour each way because of the incredible reviews--and every single one proved true. In fact, my experience exceeded even my highest expectations. I've been baking from scratch for my family for more than 50 years, so I know the real thing when I taste it. This bakery is unquestionably baking from scratch. Honestly, I can finally retire my mixer and my family won't know the difference. Even my grandson--who is as selective as they come and doesn't usually care for pound cake--took one bite of my sample and immediately asked for a slice for the ride home. That says everything. Kesha, the owner, is personable, friendly, professional, and simply phenomenal. Businesses like this deserve our full support because they feel like our own community treasures. And as far as I'm concerned, this one is ours. I'll be returning again... and again... and again. Ms. Pp

All pretty standard flavours, but if what I got is representative of the whole offering, the quality is what makes them special. I got the Manjari, a chocolate mousse coated in a dark chocolate ganache with a thin chocolate cookie/cake "crust" on the bottom. It was almost $10 which I think is pricey for an individual dessert, but it was perfectly designed and the chocolate was clearly good quality because it was RICH. The dessert was pushing my tolerance for sweetness but in this small portion it worked as the chocolate was very strong to balance it out.

No matter how many times I visit, I always end up finding something new that catches my eye. Between the incredible selection of breads, pastries, and drinks, it's nearly impossible to leave empty-handed. One of the things I love most about this place is the variety of bread flavors they offer. Whether you're in the mood for something sweet, savory, classic, or unique, there always seems to be a fresh batch coming out of the oven. The bread always tastes incredibly fresh, whether you're eating it immediately there or in the car or saving some for breakfast the next morning. The drinks deserve recognition too. They're consistently good, surprisingly affordable, and pair perfectly with whatever baked goods you decide to bring home. My go to drink here is the jasmine milk tea with 50% sugar and light ice. It's rare to find a place where the quality is this high while the prices remain so reasonable. I've tried a variety of their drinks over the years, and they've yet to disappoint. I was so happy they finally opened an 85 Degrees bakery here in the Midwest because I would always visit this place when I visit the West Coast. If you're a bread lover, this bakery is absolutely worth the trip. The combination of fresh-baked bread, flavorful drinks, affordable prices, and an endless selection of goodies keeps me coming back time and time again. It's one of those places that makes you start planning your next visit before you've even finished what you bought from this one.

I took a bite of the double chocolate gluten free cookie. Kind of like a shortbread cookie with filling. Not much to say about this. I like gluten. A chocolate chip cookie. Not a tough one. It was dry and I swear it was sitting in that jar for 4 days. Total bummer. I threw it away. The piece of cake and coffee came right away to counter. I sat down. Then about 5 minutes passed and my two cookies just showed up. I went back up to ask the guy at counter for them. Wouldn't you think he could have brought to me since it was not busy and he made me wait or maybe just forgot about me. It is time to repaint and tidy up. As for the baked goods. Needs a major step up to make it. If I can't get a chocolate chip cookie that I would eat. Total loss. I pride myself of being positive for reviews. I just can't with this one.

Buying our birthday cakes here has been a go to tradition for our family for a long time. Unfortunately, my most recent purchase was a huge letdown. I got the Matcha Strawberry Cake on the day of the celebration, but the cake base was completely wet, soggy, and mushy right where it met the cream and strawberry filling. Instead of the light, airy matcha sponge we normally look forward to, the texture was heavy and gummy, almost like it had been sitting in the display fridge absorbing moisture for days or the fruit had not been properly prepped. I really appreciate the great customer service here, which is why this review hurts to write, but the quality control on the bakery side this time around was unacceptable. I really hope the management addresses freshness and shelf life standards because we would love to keep coming back.

The Crab Meat Croquette 3/10 was also my first time trying a croquette, and I definitely didn't expect it to be so soft. The filling tasted like coleslaw, and the outside was supposed to be crispy, but it was just a soft savory pastry. The Causson aux Pommes 2/10 was probably my least favorite. It tasted like a grocery store pastry but lowkey worse. It wasn't crispy or flaky at all and almost tasted stale. The layers didn't shatter when you bit into it, so it just wasn't satisfying to eat. Overall, the pastries definitely looked good, but I'd rather spend my money at some of the other bakeries in Chinatown or pay more for something that's actually higher quality.
