Where to begin... We were coming in from out of town for a graduation and I needed desserts. I reached out and she immediately got back to me via text. This lady makes fantastic cakes. We needed custom cakes made for my father-in-law's birthday party, and our usual spots of Le Sucre and Molly's were unavailable. After some research we decided to try Lucy's and she delivered an impressive set of cakes based on my wife's very specific specs. Her buttercream recipe is fantastic, truly light and flavorful. The sponge of the layer cake is perfectly medium density. Not as thick as Molly's cupcake batter and not as light as Mandy B's. Just right. We did a carrot flavor for one and then a lemon with raspberry compote for the other and the guests at the party were absolutely raving. We had professional cake maker as a guest too and he asked for Lucy's information after tasting the cake. My in-laws are "cake people" and get a cake every Sunday per family tradition so they've tried every cake in Chicagoland and even they were so happy about these cakes for my FIL's big 70th birthday. After calling a few bakeries that couldn't customize a cake or deliver or wanted to overcharge, I found Lucy. She asked me for a photo of what I had in mind, shared a menu of flavors, and couldn't have been sweeter --and her quote was far lower than others. On my daughter's birthday, she sent me a photo of her cake, which was prettier than the original photo I sent her, and she delivered the cake herself with extra candles. My daughter said the cake was "like a dream," the most gorgeous one she ever saw and the most delicious chocolate cake she ever tasted. And she's in art school and makes cake sculptures! I LAST MINUTE was scrambling and found Lucy, emailed her early in the morning, heard back in an hour or so, and she said "yes" to my request!
