I placed an order for the most expensive cake I've ever purchased for my sister's birthday and it was worth every dollar! She sent me an inspo photo of what she wanted and ECBG somehow managed to make it 10x better and exceeded my expectations. I paid $289 for the 8" cake for a party of at least 30 guests and still and left overs so the cake was massive in height also! Kelly was amazing and helped me through the ordering process via email. She got back to me so fast and I was able to get the order in super quick. Cake size & flavor: 8" Lemon Filling: Raspberry whipped mascarpone Frosting: Italian Meringue vanilla buttercream (subtly sweet) Thank you ECBG team for making this happen!

We hired ECBG to make the cake for our March 9 wedding. I had seen a gorgeous cake on Instagram and saw they were close, so we decided to do a 'to go' cake tasting, which was so much fun and I highly recommend. We loved every cake and frosting including the vegan options. We were so excited that we were able to pick a different flavor combination for each layer (our guests loved that as well). We ended up getting a three tiered cake to feed 100 people and a dozen vegan cupcakes. The cake was huge (in the best way), gorgeous, so yummy and so amazing! I already have had three guests ask me where the cake was from because their family member is getting married and needs to get their cake from there. My mom also requested a cake from here for her birthday and couldn't stop wishing we had more for weeks after the wedding. I wish I wrote down every compliment we got for the cake to share here, but basically, every guest loved how stunning AND delicious it was. You don't always find a place that makes food you want to look at and can't stop eating! I highly recommend ECBG. Not only was the cake one of our favorite parts of our wedding, but they were so kind and easy to work with. ** two notes -definitely listen to the directions about taking the cake out of the fridge before eating -if you get different flavors be sure to let the caterer/person cutting it know**

    Epic cakes!

The best cakes you will ever have! The entire team is amazing and led by a strong kind female boss, Erin! I've put in some quirky requests and they're always perfection! Also, don't listen to bitter Dennis K's review below. He leaves one star reviews everywhere asking for refunds, ruining the reputation of small businesses. He should buy his cakes from the grocery store and find a hobby outside of leaving Karen reviews.

Was disappointed. I know we ordered almond, but it had an overpowering artificial almond flavor. The cake was cooked weird, being soft in some places, and crumbly in others. Also we found the layers to be too thick, especially with the frosting. Finally, you wouldn't believe that awful aftertaste! This didn't ruin our ten-year anniversary, but we were hoping we'd be comparing them to the cake place that was there before (Amy Beck, they were fantastic). Unfortunately I can't eat another bite, and it's not because I'm full!

ECBG is a pleasure to work with. And her cakes absolutely live up to the viral Instagram pix. From the smooth communication, to the creativity (all I said was I wanted a vintage wedding cake with my color scheme and they ran with it!!), to the actual quality of the cake - everything was amazing! To note, there is a minimum price you have to spend to get delivery so I sent a trusty family member to pick it up from the bakery and drop it off at my venue. It was so fresh that they were finishing up decorating when they picked it up! Would definitely recommend ECBG!!!

ECBG was one of our first vendors we booked for our wedding. We did one of their at home tasting kits - which was perfect and so fun to do at home together. We worked closely with Sarah on what our vision was and she was so kind and responsive the entire process. When we finally saw the cake on our wedding day, WOW!! It's not every day that a cake can steal the show at a wedding, but it was a head turner in the best way possible. Beyond that, our guests loved the cake and we got so many compliments on it throughout the evening! Don't believe the wedding blogs that say "cakes are a waste of money" - it's a statement piece and if your use ECBG there will be very little wasted cake as we only had a handful of slices left over (which my father graciously took home as a lover of all things buttercream icing and cake). The entire team is incredible and we loved working with them!

We ordered a cake for our wedding and our engagement party from ECBG, and I still dream about how delicious they both were! Erin's incredible artistry to create the wedding cake of my dreams was so beautiful and we are so grateful! Highly recommend and will be ordering from her again.

I ordered a Chocolate Cake with Buttercream frosting. Not a Buttercream Frosting Cake with a bit of Chocolate Cake.

For my wife's birthday I ordered a Chocolate Cake with Butter Cream Frosting. As you can see by the attachment I received a Butter Cream Frosting Cake with a bit of Chocolate Cake. I sent an email to ECBG the next day saying I would like to talk to someone about the cake. I did not hear back and followed up again and this is the response back I received from the owner Erin Martin. Wow!! ============= Hi Dennis! My name is Erin and I own ECBG Cake Studio. My Order Manager, Izzy has let me know you were unsatisfied with your order over the weekend. Thank you so much for your feedback. It means a lot to us to try to make each and every experience exceptional. I did take a look at your attachment and your order form to see that it was consistent with what you ordered. My personal recommendation for fillings is something like cream cheese or chocolate pastry cream since the buttercream is always on the outside. A lot of our signature style cakes are done with artist discretion, like color of message, font of message, placement of disco balls etc. - and I am so sorry that was not to your liking. I understand the amount of filling we provided, which is consistent with all of our cakes and to our standard, may not have been your preference and that is okay. Hopefully the guests were still able to enjoy their night! I hope you have a great week! ================= Wow this is customer service... I think not. This was for a birthday imagine if this was for a wedding and you cut into this disaster of a cake at the reception. Anyone reading this please don't make the same mistake I did by ordering a cake from ECBG Cake Studio's. Dennis K.

We were SO HAPPY with ECBG! Erin was wonderful to work with for our wedding cake - very good, clear, and quick communication. Our cake was beautiful and most importantly...DELICIOUS! We had a hard time narrowing down from the fabulous take home tasting box provided (which in itself is super cool and handy since we live out of town) so Erin suggested we just do 4 layers so we could have them all! We asked the kitchen to box up whatever was leftover so we could take them home and enjoy all of the flavors. It was still delicious a few days later at home. We enjoyed out wedding cake for a week after! They also made our dog and had him "taking a bite out of the cake," which was one of my favorite things of the day. I was dragging everyone to look at our beautiful cake and precious pup next to it! I cannot recommend ECBG highly enough...and am already looking forward to our 1 year anniversary when they do a special cake to mark the occasion.

I would totally recommend and order from this bakery in the future for any event. I gave them enough time and asked for some different colors, and they honored my request with no problem. Customer service was A+. Thanks again. By the way, the cake exceeded my expectations. It was sooooo good.

We ordered our daughter Sweet Sixteen Birthday cake from ECBG and it was beyond our expectations. I ordered it online and described in the notes that our daughter was a Bridgerton fan and that her birth stone was ruby and she liked gardening. Our cake was vanilla with chocolate ganache filling. Love their less sweet frosting and the cake was moist. Will order from them again.

Erin and her team are amazing! We were introduced to ECBG by a friend who highly recommended her for our wedding cake. We initially ordered a cake tasting box, and were wowed. We have since purchased several cakes from ECBG. Our wedding cake was absolutely incredible, Erin worked with us for weeks until we found a stencil that matched exactly the look we were going for. Delivery was smooth, our cake was stunning, delicious, and people are still raving about it. Would choose Erin and the ECBG team over and over again!

We were very optimistic during our cake tasting and design meeting. She showed us a pervious cake which we used for inspiration, in turn we drew a mockup of our vision which was submitted with our final order to clearly communicate expectations. The final product was disappointing because Erin failed to communicate her artistic changes. Our issues were: 1) Geometric flex frost design was sloppy and incomplete. The flex lines should have been cohesive and around the entire tier 2) Damage to the base layer 3) Dents on the top tier We reached out after our wedding for an explanation. Erin apologized for us being upset but not for her mistakes by stating: "The small dent on the corner of the hexagon happened during transit. Sometimes we have to weigh the risk involved with fixing it, which may result in making it more noticeable or worse. In this case, instead of redoing it, I painted over the knick hoping it was small enough to be overlooked. " "Although there is a degree to which we cannot control due to our medium being food. We try our best to make each cake perfect, but they will never be ACTUALLY flawless because it is food." "Flex frost, the product we use to do the geometric lines in which we laser cut and hand apply is a thin film that melts when you touch it. It was applied with expert care and attention. Again, as it is food, it will never be actually perfect, and if you look at the photo we had provided as inspiration you will see gaps as well (I am not sure where that mock up came from that you all provided- it was not indicative of the photo we had on your order form originally)" Be aware if you go with ECBG your cake may be damaged during transit, your cake will not be flawless and she will overlook details such as a mockup submitted with your final order. The cake did taste AMAZING and showed up on time. She loses stars for communication and customer service. You should not change someone's design and surprise them on their wedding day. Also you should not make excuses and admit your mistake. Unacceptable. I've attached photos documenting our process, If you chose ECBG make sure she understands your vision. Good luck

I've been a customer of almost 10 years and have been obsessed since they first opened their doors at a different location. I literally live an hour away without traffic and even longer with traffic, but I make sure to stop by or send someone else to get it for me at least once a month or more. I love the amazing cakes that are so delicious and unique but on top of that, it is Asian owned, LGBTQ supporting, etc. A lot has changed since their little storefront with no seating. The bakery is now a full on cafe and I'm so happy to see how much they've grown and how successful they are. And while it is glorious, I will say I miss the sweet neighborhood charm and great customer service it used to have. Getting in touch with the bakery through phone or text can be tough and to be honest, sometimes one of the people working there is kind of...very mean. It had me questioning if I should keep coming back. I just love this bakery so much though and being raised by parents that had a small food business, I can't help but want to support. I had a particularly difficult last minute request for the bakery a few weeks ago and I was reminded why this place is so great. It had been YEARS since I made this specific request, which was an order for a slice of cake for every flavor and a cupcake for every flavor. This is a BIG and time consuming request, especially if it's last minute. Unfortunately I come to the city whenever the traffic isn't atrocious, so it's always last minute. Dom absolutely pulled through though. Even though there were other employees there (I saw two others but one disappeared and then another male was kind of walking around the cafe and such), Dom took this giant request and fulfilled it himself. The other gentleman (not the mean person previously mentioned) was actually who I made the request to, but he told Dom to do it. I was kind of confused why they didn't do it together but idk, maybe the other guy isn't allowed to handle food? Who knows. Regardless, this request obviously took a long time and the line was getting longer; people were getting a little restless but Dom stayed calm but was swift. I swear he was moving faster than most people in the industry could with a cake knife like that. He was not impatient or rude to me at all. He was just there to do his job as fast and well as possible. It's so rare to see that type of work ethic. He is also so obviously proud of the bakery and the food they serve which makes you feel good about being a patron there. So although I continue to have an unpleasant experience with one particular employee there, Dom keeps my love for this bakery alive. He reminds me of what this bakery was like when they first opened their doors. I hope Dom is cherished there and I bet he is considering his work ethic. I will continue to support this bakery and I recommend everyone else to support as well. It may not be that small little shop anymore but Dom is a reminder of the heart of the place.

Showed up on a Friday morning at 730, was third in line, and waited 90 minutes. By 8am that line was already down to the end of the block. Just take my advice on this. My favorite thing about this place was how they let people in. One party at a time. Makes the atmosphere and ambiance inside feel more cozy and warm with none of that viral sensation nonsense. Best part is, when I finally ordered, the guy at the counter was super chill. Let me ask a few questions, was patient and kind. None of that viral sensation snobbery that comes with these kinds of places. Food time. The truffle croissant was unlike any other croissant I ever had. I was skeptical at first because it is a local chain, rather than a singular location. However, it lived up to the hype. Service: it was extremely busy when we came in. The line was almost out the door. They have a system in place for ordering and seating so it worked well and fast given how busy they were. We didn't have any questions on where to order or where to stand when waiting for a seat. The staff were friendly and helped us find a spot to sit at. Ambiance: classic cafe in a city. Loud chatter, but it's a vibe. Very colorful and fun interior with cool textural elements. We had a seat that was facing the street so it was fun to people watch as we sipped and ate. Food: amazing breakfast selection! We ordered the morning sandwich and barbacoa bowl. The morning sandwich had THICK scrambled eggs which were super soft and tasty. I could've used more salsa verde on it. The bread was barely toasted. I'd rate the sandwich a 3.8/5. It got the job done. The barbacoa bowl was "really good" according to my fiancé. A great source of protein, fresh ingredients, nice flavor, and great portions. He would rate it a 5/5. Coffee: I am a coffee snob so I am quite harsh when it comes to reviewing it. Their machine is a cute La Marzocco. Appropriate sized "for-here" glasses according to the drinks. Plus, they were really cute. Wide variety of drink selection from your standards to the more girly-drinks (if there is such a thing). We ordered a cappuccino and small hot mocha. Latte art 4.5/5, temperature 5/5, flavor 4/5. The espresso didn't stand out to me, very standard flavor profile. However, the chocolate in the mocha was delicious. It's more of a rich, dark chocolate. Nice thin layer of foam. Like seriously, with the cost of groceries skyrocketing, I can't believe I got a whole bit of egg white and yolk. You must eat your goodies warm, the initial crunch had me in a chokehold. They also had a vegan focaccia which my friends appreciated. There's street parking and expect lines. Inside isn't super spacious, but the line does move. Bring sunnies and a book if you don't like to stand around. We got here before they opened on a Saturday morning and only had to wait like 15mins. They also sell cute lil Sugar Moon merch like fun tshirts and cards. Would 100% come back to get morning pastries from them. MUST visit.

Ugh, I dream about their chai rolls. And that espresso cornflake crunch cookie! Obscene…read more You can't go wrong with anything here. I will say the savory items are definitely on the salty side though. I wish they were 20% less salty! I had ordered the miso mushroom brioche, asparagus foccaccia, and poblano brioche. It's worth the trek and the line. You'll probably end up eating from the box on the curb nearby, since inside seating is TIGHT. I live in SF and we don't mess around when it comes to bakeries. I will be returning to Sugar Moon next time I'm in Chicago. Wait for me, my love.

Just sad I didn't discover this pastry shop sooner! On a Friday afternoon, they were bustling! They…read morehad some different indoor seating options, most of which were occupied by either people working or friends chatting. It was a pleasant atmosphere and cute decor, but I ended up taking my goods to go. It was hard to decide between all the enticing options but the friendly woman working the register pointed me to their popular chocolate cake and it did not disappoint! More of a mousse than a cake but it was rich and utterly divine. I also tried their spinach feta croissant, which was ok but I'm not convinced the right vessel for that filling. I also appreciated some of their baked goods were reasonable prices so you could easily try something for under $5 or alternatively splurge for the finer pastries.

First visit here, I got some yummy desserts to take home. We grabbed cheesecake, peanut butter…read moretart, chocolate cake and some French Macarons. All desserts were delicious. My French Macarons were even good several days later. On the first occasion the attendant had already put stuff up and was rushing us to close. Even though we got there wit more than 30 minutes before closing time. We tried to come back a few days later as I really wanted that vanilla bean cheesecake again but they were closed. It was closed 30min prior to time advertised on website. We were bummed. While searching for nearby bakeries, we saw several other people try to patronize this business. So overall probably a 4 stars but knocking a star for not advertising the correct hours. Luckily we were already in the area but I would have been mad if made a venture up here and it was closed. I wouldn't bank on this for an after dinner treat. Get your stuff during the day as the hours are not dependable.
