We met with RJ and got a good impression of his business and felt that he would provide a quality product. So, we agreed to have Accurate Fence & Deck build us a deck on the back of our house. Nothing outrageous, about 14' deep by about 24' wide. His crew (of 2) came out on Monday and started working; very professional and polite. Although it took an extra day for the concrete supports to set, the whole deck job was wrapped up in about 3 days and turned out quite nice. We felt these builders were professional and took the time to do things right. They even hand crafted a railing down the stairs in addition to the upper deck rail, which we felt was a very nice touch and the sign of a good craftsman.
And then there was the fence!.... So since RJ's (first) crew did SO well with the deck, we elected to have them come out and build us a 6' privacy fence to wrap around the back yard. Mmm, not the same experience. This crew (of 3, and not the same builders as the deck) came out and removed our old chain link fence, cut the posts off at ground level and covered the stumps with dirt. This may be common practice, i don't know, but it wasn't that big of a deal. This crew were "fence assemblers", and not craftsmen by ANY means. The craftsmanship was shoty, at best. Boards were not straight, the seams were not tight, and the whole structure itself didn't feel sound and durable. The wood used was still wet/green and had not dried/cured long enough, which came back to bite us in the a**. By the next summer, the boards, and 4x4 wood posts started warping, splitting, and twisting, which of course started pulling the nails out. I contacted RJ via phone and email, and eventually he came out. He advised that this was unfortunately not the "craftsmanship" that caused the wood to warp and twist, so he wasn't going to cover that as a repair, but he said he's contact the supplier of the wood to file a complaint and see if they would cover at least some of it. To no avail... Needless to say, I've had to reconstruct/repair about 70% of the fence. Once we can afford a new one, we'll have this P.O.S. removed, and a proper fence installed. Accurate fence and deck was good for the deck, but I DO NOT recommend them for fence building, and don't expect any type of "above and beyond" customer service if you have any problems down the road. read more
