I'm sorry... not really sure why you would give this specific ABC store less than a 5? First off, ABC stores are hilarious because not only are they convenience stores, they also carry fresh food (more so than a gas station or 7 Eleven). Then, they also carry souvenirs and beach/Hawaii gear, so that's awesome. Last, SOME OF THEM (like this location) also has hot food... which was PHENOMONAL! By mid- week my hubs and I figured out that this needed to be where we got all our local flavor from. Everything they made was fresh, looked outstanding, and was reasonably priced. We did get the Katsu and Spam musubi twice, and tried a Moco Loco for breakfast one morning. DEALS ON DEALS ON DEALS, and SO WORHT IT! If you are a typical tourist, then ya, maybe the ABC stores aren't for you. But if you are more of the adventurous, off the grid, and cheaper type of travelers (like us) then I would HIGHLY recommend stopping at as many ABS stores as possible (especially if they have hot food involved). Why does this ABC store deserve a 5 star rating?....if you were staying in this neighborhood you can visit this ABC store for pumping gasoline, buying groceries and souvenirs, and best of all, inside you'll find a hot deli with daily specials. It was by wanting to check on some Island trinkets and chocolate souvenirs that we stopped and went inside. The lovely missus was happy with all the offerings and she bought enough stuff to get two free bags at the end of the week. To my pleasant surprise I found their deli and was amazed with all the specials they have everyday. You order, then you pay at the ABC cashier and return with the receipt to get what you ordered...Mochiko Chicken was a good choice and I took it back to the condo. This is my fav ABC store in this island. It's close to Times and in a gas store. They have many shirts options and some shirts have nice material. Hot food is abundance here, more than just spam musubis, poke, Kim Chee fried rice, prime rib Tuesday, delis, adobo plate, breakfast plate, etc. I ordered the prime rib loco Moco and it was nice. The two things that's a must have from here is Lilikoi Hi Chew and Spam Musubi. My first day here once we got to the resort, I practically ran 2 blocks here to grab a handful of spam musubi. Standing in front of that case, I must've looked a bit crazy because after all these years (about 13 years) I was finally able to have a spam musubi from an ABC store again. Despite being queasy from the flight and had just eaten McDonalds, I was able to stuff my face with 2. These are just addicting. They're freshly made and I'm definitely exaggerating a little bit here... but you can taste the love of the islands from them. I know that there are many restaurants that have much better and well known spam musubi... but it's just something about convience store food that I like (only ABC stores specifically). I don't remember anything about my trip from when I was 11, but the only thing was that I loved every ABC store I came across. After grabbing a bunch of musubi, I happened to come across a rack of hi chews (one of my favorite candies) and saw that there was a lilikoi one. I've never seen that flavor before, pineapple too. Lilikoi (passion fruit) is my favorite flavor of tea and drinks so I had to give it a try... I guess you can say it was a good mistake? One pack was finished within a night so I had to come back the next day for 5 more? Before leaving for home, I think I added about 5lbs of lilikoi hi chew alone to my carry on bag. This place has all the basics of a good island vacation. My dad was able to find a beautiful fresh papaya and that went into his belly so fast after we got back to the hotel room. He swears that was the best papaya he's had in his life and that's saying something coming from the person who always has one in his fruit basket at home. There's also the cutest souvenirs, clothes; if you forgot any island essentials a home, this place will have something for you. I also got a pair of flip flops for my dad and when we left, I found his old pair in the trash can (I guess he liked the pair from here much more and the old one needed to retire soon for sure). Final Thoughts: If I ever end up living near an ABC store one day like this one, I'll easily hit the $300 on the gold card with receipts. With not much open, we stumbled across this shop on 10/20/20. We bought so much because the prices and products are great. I was actually worried to go over the baggage weight limit, but I made it work (put more in hubby's bag and carry-on) I asked the cashier if things we're picking up now that Hawaii has implemented the Safe Travels program with pre-travel COVID testing, and she replied yes. The cashier explained that they were grateful because they need the business. She was so sweet and kind, after our brief conversation with her, I'm glad we spent our hard-earned money for all of our souvenirs there. While not all locals are excited about the safe and slow reopening, and understandably so, it is nice to encounter those that express their Mahalo during this rough time for us ALL. What can you say about the ABC stores. Very convenient for all your needs: Beer, smokes, gas, hot food, cold food, sunscreen, tourist trinkets, clothes, etc. A little on the high side concerning prices but they're on par with the two grocery stores in the area so no reason to complain. Anyhow, if you're vacationing in Maui, you're rich so you can afford to pay $3.00 for a 16 oz Pepsi. (Ha ha! Sarcasm off) Seriously, the convenient factor alone is worth the prices. Who would expect a convenience store to be great all around. Someone mentioned the ABC stores on a tour, but we had not yet been to one. This one nearest our resort is one of the larger stores as I spoke with one of the clerks. She was quite proud of the store and I thanked her. Place offers everything, including cooked to order food - sandwiches, burgers, loco mocco, prime rib, etc. Plenty of cold items - a really fantastic salad with chicken, almonds and cranberries. Souvenirs, alcohol and gasoline as well. We had tired of the long lines and expensive food at the tourist restaurants in Lahaina and nearby, so we stopped at the food trucks nearby - purchased a few hot items, and then to ABC stores for more items and drinks. Couldn't believe the ABC near our condo had prime rib!!! Flavor was great and they gave us a nice thick cut. Love this store. Friendly, clean, and they have everything! However, we were super disappointed tonight. We caught the tail end of the deli hours (15 minutes before the deli closes) and wanted to grab some prime rib. The woman behind the counter was mopping up and did her best to completely ignore us and not make eye contact. It was so clear she just wanted to go home. No hello. No eye contact, though we saw her see us and look away. Finally I asked if she was open and she said yes, and we ordered the prime rib. She was not wearing a mask, and she cut the meat and put it in a container with her bare freaking hands. Really? Then she noticed I saw and gasped and suddenly put on gloves to close the lid and wrap up the meat. Not cool. No mask. No gloves while handling the food. Then when we got home there was like a 1/2 pound of pure fat in the container to add to the 16oz weight. There was a huge meaty roast sitting there and she decides to do that? It was just disappointing to be treated like that, and we just crossed our fingers and ate the food cause we were hungry, knowing she handled the meat with bare hands. I know it's a long day. I know it's not a glamorous job. I know tourists can be hellish. But your shift ends when it ends. Smile, bear it, and talk crap about customers or roll your eyes after you clock out. Hawaii needs tourist dollars and some of us do really still practice Aloha and love your islands. **Note, this is our first negative experience in an ABC store. The people in the store are usually super friendly and helpful and smiling. I wouldn't have written anything except for the no gloves and no mask part of it. First time I've seen this ice cream cookie sandwhich, there's 6 different flavors. I may want to try banana mac-nut flavor ice cream before I leave. Kona Coffee is my fave. I've tried also Mint & Choc. ice cream ones; they're just as good. Wallet is hurting, but my stomach wants more. At first you might think takeout Prime Rib at ABC Stores deli is a bit of a stretch, but as someone who has had probably more than his share of prime rib dinners at some world class locations, I was more than pleasantly surprised by the quality of our take out prime rib dinner. We even got two free mugs for spending a certain amount of money (you can choose from a tote bag or callender too.)
