4.5 / 5.0 - abc kitchens is my new favorite dining spot in Dumbo. I generally go to Dumbo whenever I have visitors, for the spectacular views of Manhattan. I'd been to abc kitchen in Flatiron countless times over the years, but had no idea about this one, which had opened up in Brooklyn. I dined here for the first time last month with a visitor from Japan and we had a wonderful experience. We ordered: - kale salad, avocado, sunflower seeds, lemon ($20+) - spinach, goat cheese, herbs ($23+) - grilled organic half chicken, spring onions, lemon ($34+) The food was delicious, I love the abc kitchens atmosphere and our server was very attentive, too. Looking forward to dining again :) read more

Do NOT try to order delivery here. Every time we order, it says "your order is still being prepared" along with "delivery person is still waiting for your order" for at least one hour. In person, it's a good experience and the food (especially produce) is just like the flatiron branch. read more

Finally made it out to ABC kitchens on a beautiful September NYC evening. The outside patio was beautiful, lit up with views of the east river and the Manhattan skyline. Unlike the ambiance, the food was a miss. Nothing we ordered had any flavor, including the sweet baked potato, the mushroom pasta or the squash blossom quesadilla (although the jalapeño sauce with it was good). The pizza was decent but you are not coming here for the pizza when Julianna and Grimaldis is next door. Service was also meh. Our server was very nice but not attentive and the kitchen forgot about our order. All in all, not worth the money, even for the view. read more

What a delight this restaurant was. I was here last sunday for lunch with a reservation. I was impressed how spacious and bright the restaurant is. We were seated inside at a latge table between the private room and booths. It was a group of 6 of us plus a child. We ordered: Dip: Fire roasted bell pepper Loved this- had to request more bread to wipe the bowl clean. Crudos & Raw: A dozen oysters and yellowfin tuna - i didn't have the oysters but the tuna was nice, it was more tomato-y like a bruschetta than tuna-y Pizza: Tomato mozzarella basil -only took a bit of my husband's slice. It was nice. Market table: Wood-fired roasted green asparagus, Tender beets, wood-fired roasted whole artichoke, grilled maitake mushroom, warm leeks, -Everything in this category was delectable. Pasta: Mac and cheese - not a mac and cheese fan but this was worth trying. Fish, poultry, meat, others: Whole grilled black seabass, buttermilk fried quail, al pastor campo grande pork chop - the seabass was more of fillets than a whole fish with the head, the fillet i got had quite a bit of bones, otherwise it was good. I didn't need the taco shells personally. -the buttermilk quail i got a wing or a leg piece, boney yet it was soooo tender. I know quails are small birds but i was expecting a slightly larger portion size of this. - al pastor campo grande pork chop was definitely grande. I got a piece by the bone and it was exceptional Dessert: Matcha creme brûlée, yorkshire rhubarb pie and caramel popcorn sundae - the matcha creme brûlée was my faveeeee. I've never had one before but this set the bar high for a matcha lover. I have to figure out how to make it at home. I also liked the caramel popcorn sundae. The rhubarb pie wasn't matching my tastebuds but that's probably a personal taste. The service was good. Our server was helpful with any questions we had especially with regard to a food allergy someone in our group has. The food came out one by one as they're ready. Would definitely visit again. read more

Extremely disappointing experience. We arrived at 4:50 PM, and the girl outside told us they were accepting walk-ins. However, once we went inside, we were told they weren't accepting walk-ins that day, except for seating at the bar. We left, only to call an hour later and be told by the person who answered the phone that they actually were accepting walk-ins and that we could try coming back. The communication between the staff was completely inconsistent. It's frustrating to receive different answers from different employees, especially when it results in an unnecessary trip and wasted time. Very disorganized and disappointing experience. read more

We spend a wonderful evening here. Food, drinks are very good and service is friendly and attentive. The pizza is so fresh and delicious. We also had the restaurant week menu and all food is delicious. However, it's little salty on some dishes but overall is good. The berry soup dessert is so fresh and yummy! Every single table setting is so pretty and unique. We love the decoration here and the semi private room is so gorgeous. read more

ABC Kitchen is one of the best spots in DUMBO! My friend and I both ordered the chicken and steak tacos, and they were absolutely amazing. The meat was perfectly cooked, packed with flavor, and the toppings were fresh and balanced everything perfectly. Every bite was delicious. The atmosphere was welcoming, the service was friendly and attentive, and the food came out quickly. If you're in the neighborhood and looking for a great meal, I highly recommend stopping by. We'll definitely be back to order those tacos again! read more

Right by the Timeout Market - excellent location with an outdoor patio during summer. The place is super clean, nicely decorated, and their brunch menu will make you think (in a good way) what to order - so many delicious options. No complaints about service - quick and attentive. This new location is so beautiful, right by the water, with delicious food and good service! I've already visited twice for dinner and brunch, and both were great experiences! I wish they can add dietary labels to the menu so we don't have to keep asking questions, but there are many dishes that are vegetarian or can be made vegan! (paccheri pasta, dosa, etc.) read more

So we are visiting our kids in New York for a long weekend. Tonight we went to the newer ABC Kitchens restaurant in dumbo that richard and I haven't been to yet. We adore the ABC vegan place and this location has vegan options along with recipes from their other restaurants too. Nicole has nut allergies and this place accommodates easily her needs along with our vegan preferences. The restaurant has stunning decor... you almost always need reservations except at the bar. Small plates which make sharing items fun, plus gives you the ability to try lots of different dishes. My favorites tonight: Brussels sprouts, portobello mushroom, dosa, and the mushroom walnut bolognese. We eat at one of the ABC kitchen places on each visit to nyc!!! read more

My wife and I celebrated our birthdays here last night along with our teenager and his aunts and unfortunately it was just an OK experience. The atmosphere and decor are awesome and much better than what used to be at this 'bad' luck spade and the service was exceptional and our waiter was excellent! The menu is extensive and the plates are meant to be shared but we did a combo. Unfortunately the food was just a miss and ok at best. For the price we paid ($495 total with tax tip and alcohol and dessert) it was pretty expensive for what you get. The arroz con pollo was a big disappointment, dry and not crispy at all as advertised- the hake tacos weee small and not that flavorful and my wife had shrimp cocktail ( good but ordinary) and the Brussels sprouts ( too much oil) / the calamari appetizers was barely there but we did like the crab toast ( excellent) my son and I each had the skirt steak and side of fries and tbh was just average and tiny in size - the dessert was excellent the chocolate cake - We so wanted to love it but maybe we'll come back when the weather is better and we can sit outside- read more

Our server Quintin was extremely nice, helpful, friendly and patient. He made excellent non alcoholic recommendations (off the menu, since there's nothing we could find on the menu we liked). What we appreciated the most was that he did not push us to order dinner and allowed us to sip our drinks and eat our appetizers (I had already just eaten and we stumbled upon ABC kitchens after that, drawn to the cute pink decor). He also understood our tastes and made sure we didn't order something we wouldn't like. We will definitely be returning with our family/friends because of the exceptional service. The decor brought us there but the service will keep us there! read more

The food here was absolutely amazing. I came here with a family member to celebrate a level-up in her career. It was a pleasant evening in spring in which we were welcomed by more than one lovely host and seated promptly. Since there was a bit of a chill in the air and the doors with a view of the park and water were open, we decided to sit at the bar, even with our reservation. The bar was quite comfortable and there were enough staff to accommodate us within minutes. We ordered the griddled hake tacos and the whole grilled black sea bass and both eats were absolutely delicious. Come to find out, it's a share-style restaurant and the food orders may not come out at the same time. But it was cool because we were informed of this before we placed our orders. Now on to drinks, I had this delicious lychee raspberry which was appealing to the eye and extra extra tasty. Shout out to the gentleman with the long locs in his hair who was such a great waiter, with his patience and recommendations on what to order. Also, I enjoyed the chamomile tea that came out in a tea pot. The restaurant was a really nice size and slightly bigger than I thought it would be because I couldn't really tell from the outside. I liked how the restrooms were hidden in the back of the restaurant and they were cleaned back to back to back. Definitely will visit again. read more

A total five-star experience from beginning to end! A transportive, stunning jewel-box of a restaurant, with such attention to detail, from the entrees, to the velvet booths, to the way you're treated the whole time. Went here for my husband's birthday, three years after getting married at Jean-Georges' restaurant The Inn at Pound Ridge, and this new spot is unreal! Right on the water with tons of outdoor seating. Especially loved the crispy-skin chicken and rice (arroz con pollo ) with their homemade orange jalapeño elixir on the side and their insane pistachio-crusted roasted broccoli. Also enjoyed the gooey mushroom pizza with a runny egg in the center sprinkled with a little salt, and their fluffy carrot cake. Coming back to try their truffle pizza, pastas, and chocolate churros. Shoutout to Jean- Georges who even said hi! And our waiter Davin who is the gold-standard of hospitality. 5 stars!!! read more

ABC Kitchen has brought some sparkle to Dumbo. The indoor dining room is massive with a gorgeous, airy ambiance that feels both modern and warm. Inside, there are beautiful fresh flowers and a market table setup that gives the space a true farm-to-table vibe. It is easily one of the best new additions to the neighborhood. Just note: the entrance is on the side by the theater, not directly inside the Dumbo Market, so do not be surprised if you circle once. We started with cocktails, and the cherry whiskey sour was a standout. It was balanced, bright, and really well made. The white wine was fine, though definitely on the pricier side for what it was. Food-wise, the hits landed hard. The lobster, fluke ceviche, market table carrots, and arroz con pollo were the clear highlights. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. We also had the shrimp, which was solid and nicely cooked. Service was great, with friendly servers who made the experience even better. The patio is absolutely adorable, with pops of pink in the outdoor furniture that make it feel fun and inviting. Once the weather warms up, it will be the perfect spot for a long lunch or a sunset drink. Overall, ABC Kitchen Dumbo is a stylish, welcome addition with strong dishes and a great vibe. Worth the visit, especially for the seafood and market-driven plates. read more

I had dinner abc kitchens DUMBO this past Saturday with some friends after a matinee at the theater a few feet away, and we had a very good meal. Our little group was a little complicated: one person who is effectively a vegetarian with a some allergy restrictions, one person who is more of a carnivore and is suspicious of veg-forward dishes, and two people who mostly eat whatever. Our biggest problem in deciding what to eat was the size and scope of the menu. abc kitchens is a Jean-Georges Vongerichten restaurant. He opened abc kitchen near Union Square in 2010, but abc kitchens in DUMBO is new and his first-ever Brooklyn restaurant. This addition to his restaurant group combines some of the focuses of his other restaurants - global flavors but veg-forward. The menus is large - large enough that it can be daunting to order - but our server (Quentin) was wonderful - walking us through the menu and recommending some of his favorites. We shared several dishes, from almost every part of the menu: a red pepper dip; tuna tartare (roasted tomato jam and crispy sourdough); the kohlrabi from the market table section of the menu (with banana roasted in coals and pasilla chile garlic dressing); the wood-fired roasted artichoke from the market table section of the menu (with aioli and herbs); the grilled maitake mushroom from the market table section of the menu (with goat cheese and fresno vinaigrette); the paccheri pasta (with mushroom walnut bolognese, celery, and mint); the kabocha squash empanadas (with smoked mozzarella and pepita sauce); and the beef skirt steak (with salsa verde and lime). Some of the dishes we we ordered were a little traditional (red pepper dip, roasted artichoke, skirt steak), while some others were interesting takes on classic dishes (the tuna tartare and paccheri pasta with vegan bolognese). Some were surprising and strange - the kohlrabi with banana and chiles wasn't a universal hit at our table, but it did lead to quite a bit of conversation and debate. Overall, the food was interesting and tasty. They also have a great drink menu - great wines, interesting cocktails, lots of NA options. Everyone in our group was able to enjoy their favorite - martini, espresso martini, wine, soda (I really enjoyed my Sancerre). The restaurant is beautiful - romantic, charming, sweet - mismatched chandeliers, light colors, windows looking out onto the snow of Brooklyn Bridge Park. And the service was outstanding. Quentin made our meal - he was helpful and friendly and welcoming. Overall, it was a nice meal, and I'd be happy to return. read more

We had an absolutely fantastic group birthday dinner last night for a friend. The staff was extremely organized and polite, we had a set menu with a ton of appetizers and mains as well as desert and champagne - *everything* was delicious. The vibe is really cool and trendy, with a nice big bar in the middle that had full bar seating. The ambiance was energetically noisy but still very easy to converse. I'm not sure how common or how long it'll last (it only opened recently), but we had the bonus that Jean-Georges was there! He was having conversations with people that seemed like friends at the bar and talking to workers, and at the end of our dinner he even came and said hello, asked how we liked things, and took a picture with us. It was a really great experience. Highly recommend! My favorite spot in Dumbo now. read more

I've been going to abc restaurants for over a decade and this new outpost in DUMBO absolutely lives up to the experience I have come to know and love. The food is consistently excellent. It's thoughtful, seasonal, and beautifully prepared. I appreciate the wide range of veg options. Everything is flavorful, balanced, and made with high-quality ingredients. I have been five times since opening and every dish with the exception of one or two have been delicious. I think those misses might have something to do with how many options they offer. I hope they edit the menu down so they can focus on the best dishes and ensure ingredients are always fresh. The cocktails are equally impressive. They are creative and well-executed, although a bit expensive. They offer a great selection of juices reminiscent of the tonics they had on the menu at abcV. Service is hit or miss, but I think they are working out kinks. The staff is extremely warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. Timing of service is off but I am a patient diner and it's clear the team cares about the experience. The atmosphere strikes a balance of elevated but comfortable, lively but not chaotic. And at this location it has been surprisingly easy to get a table. After ten years of loving abc restaurants, this location continues the tradition beautifully. Overall it's always a wonderful time. read more

This is a beautiful restaurant with delicious food. I was so glad it came to the neighborhood but have become disillusioned after recent dining experiences. Last night my party of 5 at 8 p.m. had a waitress who couldn't answer one question about any food item on the menu and looked bothered when we asked. Hello Jean Georges, when did you completely stop training your staff? The kicker was the waitress apparently went home after our entrees were served but didn't tell us. She didn't hand us off to anyone else either, because after about 45 minutes when we realized she was totally gone, we had to chase down a grumpy bus person to tell her we needed the bill. She did ask us if we wanted dessert menus, but not in any kind of way that would have encouraged us to say yes. I would think this was an anomaly, but the last time we ate at the restaurant, we ordered a large number of market table dishes as our dinner (9 between 4 people), and instead of coursing them, the restaurant brought out everything all at once (they literally had to bring over another table because not all the dishes would fit on ours). Until Jean Georges can hire professional management to oversee the restaurant and ensure a minimum level of service (can't you move people from one of your other restaurants??) we won't be back. read more

The ambiance was airy and bright...the music (thankfully) not too loud...the tableware was eclectic...a mix of vintage-style glasses and plates. All the dishes were got were pretty much 'sublime'..... grilled avocado with freshly-grated wasabi....maitake mushrooms... Atlantic char on a bed of fennel with fresh basil and mint....and the molten chocolate cake with ice cream. All were divine! As for the tacos I got (I think with pork and pineapple), it was just OK....not quite as amazing as our other dishes. Service was very good. I'd definitely return. read more

To start off the evening well, our server, Amy F., was very pleasant with a sense of humor, as tested by my teen son. If you have dined at ABC kitchen in union square then you might be expecting a similar experience in dumbo. It's close, but not quite the same. It's still good, maybe they should have named the dumbo location 'DEF' kitchen so you won't make a comparison to union square. The main differences in my opinion are smaller portion sizes and muted flavors in dumbo. It's still very flavorful, but at Union Square you want to exclaim "wow!" with each and every bite. You recognize the dish and contents, but at union square you will ask yourself how did they make "X" taste so good? The dumbo location doesn't quite generate the same reaction, not yet. Dumbo also seems more packed in and crowded, maybe it's the lighting at union Square that makes it seem like you have your own space in the restaurant, or the food demands all your attention. I'm not sure. ABC kitchen dumbo i's a solid meal. But if you want ABC kitchen flavors, stick with the union square location. read more

IF YOU HAVE ALLERGIES, DO NOT EAT HERE i've never left a review let alone a bad one but this place blows! i sat down to eat there last saturday and was excited for the first dish put down on the table. i had clearly stated my allergies both to my waitress and in the reservation. I ate a bite of the dish and immediately realized there was sesame in it. mind you everything else in the dish was indicated on the menu, including the spices so just weird that sesame didn't make the mention cut. drama ensued and our experience ended with a manger following me onto the street, over a block away from the restaurant, and begging for my contact info to follow up. i refused cus i was pissed and in a rush to get home before i started throwing up, but the guy was relentless and i thought the idea of a follow up was kinda nice and maybe they'd try to make good in some way so i gave it to him. he never hit me up!!!!! so he followed me onto the street and harrassed me for my number for literally nothing!!!!!!!!!!!! anyways, i sound like someone that thinks my allergies are at the center of everyone's universe---that's not true. something like this has just never ever happened to me. it was handled so poorly from start to finish. it's def more of a protocol issue than any individual's fault. i wouldn't be this much of a hardass about it if it wasn't a deeply corporate operation. anyways, if you have food allergies do not trust this place their protocol is either non existent or idiotic, neither of which is a vibe read more

This beautifully aesthetic space is recently opened and while I love a Jean-George restaurant...this wasn't one of my favorites. This review is with the understanding that its new and has to work out the kinks, but not in the areas of service. Our server was absolutely wonderful. The food was good but....Tuna tartar, don't do it. Its basically an extremely spicy bruschetta, you won't be able to decipher any taste of tuna...at all, what a disappointment, as it's always one of my go to's, and with understanding the different variations a restaurant can put on a tuna tartar, this was way off. The rigatoni bolognese was delicious, but was never offered cheese. Arctic Char was also crispy skinned and cooked perfectly. Our martinis were at least a 1/4 shy from the top of a beautiful coupe glass, and although tasty. As a foodie and a manager of fine dining on Long Island, not to the top, but at least look as if it hadn't already had a few sips taken. Salt in an open dish on the table...not for me. Maldon or finishing salt should be brought upon request and covered. Huge turn off....leaning on a Mexican vibe...pepper should be on the table as well if the salt is. The play list was so off-putting...a mish-mosh of odd and quirky music...we didn't get it, it didn't fit the ambiance... and lastly because I believe the staff has to be considered...and although they look great with the baggie jean and Tee shirt, to work a shift or do a double in converse sneakers is sooooo uncomfortable, no support. Other than the small things that I noticed......I would go again.... read more

The ambiance is wonderful. It's under the Brooklyn bridge, by the water. It's romantic, clean and the seating is built around a great rectangular bar. I went with four dear friends and we tried a lot of dishes together. I didn't take photos, sorry, but I can tell you what we ate and what stood out to me. The bread and butter was delicious. Simple but went very well with the warm olives, and three cheese platter, served with quince jam and honey comb. The guacamole was very fresh, served with a spicy green cilantro dipping sauce. The raw tuna tartine served on top of sourdough bread was a crowd favorite. I'm not a lover of raw fish. We moved on to the vegetables. All simple, but tasty. My favorites were the mitake mushrooms, sweet potato in cayenne, leek and broccoli encrusted in pistachio. The vegetables could have been more interesting, but that's not the style of dining here. Its emphasis is on fresh and relatively straightforward. The mains we shared were the rib eye steak for 2, a bit salty in my opinion. Big steak, 32 oz. Good steak, fair value. My friend had the chicken tacos. I think it came with two. My other friend had the burger, which I thought was great. The sesame bun was great, the burger was fresh and the onion and cheese worked nicely. It came with basically an onion soup (without cheese and croutons) and shoestring fries, all delicious. They drank espresso martinis and cucumber martinis. I had the fresh green juice, which I loved. When I return, I will try the other two juices on the menu. The juice with carrots, beets and orange looked great. For dessert we shared the caramel gelato and popcorn dish, really yummy and the chocolate lava cake, the Chef's family recipe. We took home the carrot cake for a family member who enjoyed it! Special thanks to all the restaurant staff members who made the experience really enjoyable. Special thanks to Quintin who helped us navigate the menu and made the meal a five star experience! Thank you!! Enjoy yourself here. It's a good time. Great date spot! read more
