Being 85 years old and having multiple vision problems, I have visited my fair share of eye…read moredoctors. I've come across doctors who were very short with me, inaccurate with their diagnosis, and just excessively rude. On one occasion my daughter had taken me to a retina specialist (Dr. Matthew Ziemianski). Now, I am not one to say negative things about others but this doctor had the worst bedside manner of any doctor I have ever met. After a THREE HOUR wait (In an almost empty lobby) and only a 5 minute evaluation, I had left furious, and my daughter had to hold back her tears. I suffer from macular degeneration and my daughter had asked Dr. Ziemianski if he thought surgery would be an option to improve my vision, and he had basically responded with, "You have to deal with the fact that she's too old, nothing will help her at this point, but she'll probably die before she goes completely blind." After that horrible experience I almost wanted to never to visit another eye doctor again. However, a family friend insisted that we see Dr. VanBuren of Phoenix Ophthalmologists. So I agreed. To begin with, the wait time was (at most) 10 minutes. The tech, Jennifer, who did my exam prior to the doctor seeing me was beyond wonderful! Our friend had told their office about the horrible experience I had with Ziemanski and it was as if she was going above and beyond to make me feel comfortable. She was very sweet and very effective and answered any questions (politely and patiently) that I asked. When Dr. VanBuren came in to see me he, too, was very kind when suggesting what options I might be able to take. (He even apologized about Ziemianski's harsh remarks). Over all, in all my years of eye doctors visits, Phoenix Ophthalmologists has the absolute best staff of technicians and doctors. Very friendly, kind and clearly there to help make your day (and life) better. Thank you for the wonderful experience! I will definitely be back for any and all vision related needs! (And thank you to my granddaughter for typing this out for me.)

I've been going to Phoenix ophthalmology for many years and has really no complains until I had…read morecataract surgery. Since then it's been a nightmare. I have had all Kinda of issues related to the surgery that were never discussed with me and could have been avoided by my making a more educated decision on whether to proceed or not! I was ecstatic at the thought of not having to wear glasses. But the trade off has been horrible. I was encouraged to proceed too soon with the surgery and could easily have proceeded with my vision the way it was for many years as the cataracts were hardly noticeable to me. Additionally I was never warned about the possible increase in eye floaters, which is exactly what happened! Since my surgery, I have been plague with blind spots due to eye floaters. It is a constant aggravation that has not improved overtime. Not only that I did the upgrade on the bifocal lenses and was never warned about the fact that they caused rings around any light you look at especially at night. I can no longer drive at night because the impairment is so obvious that it's dangerous. For these reasons, I would not recommend that you get cataract surgery at Phoenix Opthamology unless you have been thoroughly schooled on the pros and cons of doing the surgery and being sure that you are at the point that you would benefit greatly from receiving it I would definitely not have done it, but I known the outcome beforehand now it's too late. I was much more comfortable wearing glasses and my vision was better than it is now.

On my first visit , I found everyone in the office to be very helpful. The technicians I saw and doctor cunningham were very kind and caring and helpful in explaining what they were doing , and what the outcome could be. Doctor hancock was equally professional and very caring. After cataract surgery on both eyes, I am now able to see as well as before.I lost my sight. Thanks to the lord and to doctor cunningham and his wonderful office and staff. On a scale of 12 ten I give them a twenty. Thank you.

When I got there, the office was locked, with a note on the door saying they were closed for lunch between 12 and I, with no visible inside activity. I gave them one more chance this year, only find a major problem this week when I received a final notice with a final payment due, but no proof of service, or backup information. I went to the Guadalupe office on 7/27/26 and was told they could not help with the situation, because it was not their problem. It belonged to their off-site billing section. I was told to contact corporate in Dallas by phone to resolve this matter. When I asked for a statement showing services provided, they said they do not have that information in their office. What? It is all in Dallas. The final notice came without my receiving any statement or billing or service information, either by mail or email. They added insult to injury when they sent an email wishing me Happy Birthday. So, no advance notice of any amount due, and no list of services provided prior to the late notice. I was told that everything is handled by corporate. What happened to the old medical practices where they were responsive to their patients? Is it all to the point of major corporations?

Dr. Minas is a very good doctor, and extremely nice. I had been to a number of ophthalmologists…read moreover the last few years for dry eye syndrome, and Dr. Minas (Eye Doctor) is the first to actually significantly improve it. He even gave me a free follow up and another procedure at no charge just to make sure my eyes were healthy. He moves a bit slow so plan on being at the office for a while, but I would have to say that it's worth it.

4.20.21 I have been patronizing both Buena Vista Opthalmologists AND Contact Lens center in this…read moresame building for more than TEN years. My reviews for both have been five star. This is where I get my eye exams and buy my contacts so naturally, it's super convenient to be able to order eye glasses here as well. I don't see a separate page to review their Optician's, which is unfortunate because my experience there was horrible. I have bought several pairs of glasses over the years at this location. The last time was 2016, so yes, five years ago. The older gentleman who used to operate this store was kind, knowledgeable, and professional. Unfortunately, the current optician, Shelley Jewell, is just the opposite. First, their selection is underwhelming: not many frames to choose from. I picked two frames and then it was time for "the numbers." My prescription is so strong that my lens cost more than the frames. Shelley proceeded to give me a price that I thought was "kind of high" but then again, the lens always make the price higher. However, I then asked her to review ALL elements of this order: + High Index (thin lenses) vs Polycarbonate (thicker lenses) + Blue glare (if you're looking at computer screens) vs regular + Photochromatic or adaptive lens that get darker once you're outside in the sun + Progressive lens aka invisible bifocals (yes if you're 40+, that might be a thing) vs. regular lens There are four pricing tiers to choose from for thickness of lens, the lowest index aka thickest lens to the highest index aka thinnest lens. Once she explained the pricing, I realized Shelley had given me the pricing for the highest index lens. Super presumptuous. When I asked her to please itemize so that I could see the difference in pricing, Shelley made a face, as if she was totally put out. She then proceeded to inform me that the frame would "show" the thicker lens and it would be heavier. Not new information for someone who's been wearing glasses since I was a kid and now investing in them as an adult for 30+ years. Do you think I don't know that? She's trying to talk me out of the thicker lens because she doesn't want to do all the different cost breakdowns. Which is her job. And she wants me to spend more money. Which does not fit the price point I mentioned up front. Getting the middle grade lens was the best choice for me, given my budget, which I shared with her. I've had the "Cadillac" of lens, the highest index lens, before, when I could afford it. But that was not going to be this pair. She proceeded to calculate the different prices and write them down for me. I was going to ask her to do that for the second pair but a coworker came in and she got up from the table, to socialize with that person. IN THE MIDDLE OF OUR TRANSACTION. Are you kidding me? That nailed it. Done. Not spending my money here. As any good salesperson in ANY industry knows, none of this was good customer service/sales etiquette. incredibly short-sighted. Pun intended.
