Phoenix Opthalmology - is great, plain and simple! Because of past problems, I wanted an office that had an Opthalmoligist on staff. I actually saw Dr. Baker, an Optometrist. He was very kind, listened to past problems and adjusted for them. There were actually some concerns due to symptoms, so he suggested that I come back on a month to be retested and determine if I needed to see the Opthalmologist. Turns out I didn't, but I appreciated the extra attention and the honesty and professionalism. I also wanted to mention both the receptionist and the optical technician Monique. She was great in doing the set up work and some tests, and took the time to explain everything she was doing and make me feel very comfortable. Every office could use someone like Monique! The receptionist was also very helpful in getting things set up for my first appt, and was professional all the way. Honestly not sure how my vision appointment could have been worse. Techs run the show here. Dr Van Buren is a good ophthalmologist but I SERIOUSLY regret I had a vision appointment here. Techs diagnose your vision prescription. My glasses are awful. The vision is bad & the astigmatism correction is barely there. Everything is slightly blurry and at night I see orbs. I've never had a more-off prescription. I'm so unhappy with this prescription I've gone back in to have the vision double checked & yet they don't really fix it. I've had Target remake the lenses & still that barely helped. Within 35 days of going here, I went to a different eye doctor. She's fixed my prescription perfectly & Target is more than happy to remake my lenses. So happy I don't have to go back & deal with the techs here. If all these techs "are so experienced" why in two appointments did I never get a correct vision prescription? I feel like I wasted my 2017 benefit. Some other things I didn't like about this appointment: *The techs never introduced themselves, stated their qualifications, or explained that they would be the ones to figure out my vision prescription. *Their glaucoma test equipment is literally as old as it gets. They numb your eye and then put a metal+glass contraption directly on your eyeball. That seems incredibly high risk. Invest in the eye-puff machine. *At checkout, their teenager/young adult running the credit cards had the "courage" to tell me they don't accept my medical insurance to schedule a medical appointment (i.e. not vision) with Dr Van Buren. I had my Cigna app open, in front of her, confirming he's a contracted medical provider. I've had 6 eye doctors in my life because of different locations & insurances. Never have I had such a nightmare with such a terrible prescription. read more

This place is amazing, more importantly Dr Van Buren is AMAZING!! I had double blepharoplasty surgery and it could not have gone any better. Dr Van Buren is kind, funny and definitely skilled at his trade. I was nervous and having second thoughts but he was so calm, cool and confident that my fears disappeared. The results are more than I expected with no bruising, that's right NONE! my scars are invisible and I have better vision with the bonus of looking many years younger. The wait time is ridiculous here. You literally have to wait about 45 minutes just to get called to the back. Dr. Van Buren is amazing however they need to get better with their scheduling of clients. If you are in a hurry do not come to this office unless you want to sit for a long time to be called. read more

I was assured by all three places that Dr Jeremy Van Buren would accept my insurance. This review is based almost entirely on my experience with the optical portion of the office. I have been a patient for a few years and up until this point I haven't had any issues. My first concern was in regards to the fact that for the first time it was noted on my record that I had astigmatism, yet this was never even verbalized to me. If this is in fact the case, this was not something I was aware of and as a patient, should have been discussed with me by the provider. Irregardless to this important detail that something abnormal was not communicated to me, the patient, I had been trying to reach out to the office for the last month to get in contact with the optical department to try to place an order for contacts and discuss this. I left several messages as well as filled out the contact us form on their website multiple times without response. I wear dailies and have been reusing the same pair for far too long as a result of being unable to connect (during their stated business hours none the less). If you are looking for fast and responsive service I highly recommend you look elsewhere. The providers are nice, but the fact that the astigmatism was not brought to my attention does not sit right with me and I will be looking at other options for care. Two stars because the lady I finally connected with (after a month and having to turn off my caller ID in hopes they would pick up) at least made the effort to get "A" prescription emailed out to me today, even though I had asked for each option I had trialed. One is better than nothing I guess although it now says no substitutions and I am forced to get the one she chose as a result. It's better than having to wear the same dailes for over a week so I guess that's a win for my eyes! I'm suppose to receive my records no later than tomorrow after waiting a month for a phone call. Will update review if I don't hear back as "promised." read more

She is attentive, knowledgeable, and incredibly thoughtful in her approach to explaining concerns associated with this type of surgery. She possesses excellent interpersonal communication skills, and her ophthalmology skills are top-notch too. They have a nice selection of designer glasses. Should you order contacts you have to be VERY VERY VERY clear with them what kind you want. Even then, it might wrong because they won't hear you or want you to try a something else, even if you know what you want. My fiancé came here for glasses and contacts probably 4 months ago. First appointment lasted 2.5 hours, the next appointment (because his prescription was incorrect, even after having his eyes dialated) was another hour and a half, and we have been back 2-3 other times because he asked for monthly contacts FOUR TIMES, and they gave us daily's, weekly's, biweekly's, and the biweekly's costed an extra $141.50. I picked them up for him due to being at work, and I asked Espy specifically if he meant to order biweekly's and she said yes, and if not we could always return the contacts. After bringing them home and my fiancé being so upset with this company for the 4th time ordering the wrong contacts, we finally got around to returning the biweekly contacts for our money back. Even after calling and reassuring we could get a refund, we were told today that he would have credit or could order something different. It's disappointing that we are in the hole roughly $360, he has NO contacts, and only ever got trial contacts. I don't think we will ever be back here again. Customer service is very poor in sales, notices need to be made that appointments can last almost 3 hours, and returns need to have a disclaimer that it will be for credit to the establishment, no refunds for anything purchased. read more

For more than 17 years my family has gone to Dr. Kaci Kramer-Oldroyd for our eye care. She is very attentive, listens carefully, and does a terrific job correcting our vision issues. I have worn glasses for more than 55 years and consequently I have visited many, many eye doctors. Without question Dr. Kramer-Oldroyd is the best optometrist that has ever cared for me and ever cared for my family. In fact, my son lives in New York and every year he makes a special trip to Arizona just to have Dr. Kramer-Oldroyd perform his annual eye exam. In addition, the entire team at Phoenix Ophthalmologists was very professional and caring. The exam rooms were clean, well designed, and clearly well cared for as well. I unfortunately had to come here two different times over the course of 3 years for the same procedure. My eyes are so sensitive that my eyelash glands became clogged in two different spots.. ugh. Dr. VanBuren is out of touch with the reality of his patients, as a School teacher I can not spent much money on trying things. He said I should try new lenses for three months and then see. I told him , my financial situation was not the best and I could not spend money to try for three month then see.His answer was, new lenses where not too expensive, maybe about $300, well for a school teacher $300 is a lot, specially if those are to try for three months. Then he forgot to send my eye allergy prescription to the pharmacy, I had to call the office again and when I went to pick it up the prescription was wrong. I just gave up. No more trying. He was in a rush, did not speak much and saw me maybe in 10 minutes. I was a new patient. I understand that he sees a lot of patient during the day but I only have a pair of eyes and these are my only eyes, and I expect better. Specially when I have between 28-40 students in each period waiting for me to teach them Spanish s a second language. I have a problem seeing minute by minute. I tried to explained him but he dismissed me. He really did not care or did not know how to show care, that he cared. Would you like your child's teacher have this kind of problem? No right? I think the teachers deserver to see well so they can teach well. This is why I will go to another place where I get a better treatment. I am not going back to him at all. It is sad because he was very well recommended. Patty his technician is absolutely adorable and wonderful. I am not going back because of him. I need to see better to teach better. The office staff members and the Ophthalmologist did not wear a mask during my visit on 7/26/202. Most of the client who waited to be seen did not wear it either. when I asked the Tech who spent most of the time evaluating my eyes to wear one, she did kindly. I explained her and wrote my past medical history which included the precautions for lung infection. However, Dr Van Burren who stepped in when the tech finished the examination, staying no longer than 2 minutes did not wear one. After leaving the office I called to ask if this was the office policy and was told the staff were not and would not wear it in the future and through the new breakout either. For the refusal to wear a mask and for the fact that I was examined by a very kind, polite and Professional caregiver/Tech and not the MD I give the physician above one star. The one star is for being able to hire such good assistance. This clinic is not safe for patients with pre existing condition and frankly to any Patient. read more

Being 85 years old and having multiple vision problems, I have visited my fair share of eye doctors. I've come across doctors who were very short with me, inaccurate with their diagnosis, and just excessively rude. On one occasion my daughter had taken me to a retina specialist (Dr. Matthew Ziemianski). Now, I am not one to say negative things about others but this doctor had the worst bedside manner of any doctor I have ever met. After a THREE HOUR wait (In an almost empty lobby) and only a 5 minute evaluation, I had left furious, and my daughter had to hold back her tears. I suffer from macular degeneration and my daughter had asked Dr. Ziemianski if he thought surgery would be an option to improve my vision, and he had basically responded with, "You have to deal with the fact that she's too old, nothing will help her at this point, but she'll probably die before she goes completely blind." After that horrible experience I almost wanted to never to visit another eye doctor again. However, a family friend insisted that we see Dr. VanBuren of Phoenix Ophthalmologists. So I agreed. To begin with, the wait time was (at most) 10 minutes. The tech, Jennifer, who did my exam prior to the doctor seeing me was beyond wonderful! Our friend had told their office about the horrible experience I had with Ziemanski and it was as if she was going above and beyond to make me feel comfortable. She was very sweet and very effective and answered any questions (politely and patiently) that I asked. When Dr. VanBuren came in to see me he, too, was very kind when suggesting what options I might be able to take. (He even apologized about Ziemianski's harsh remarks). Over all, in all my years of eye doctors visits, Phoenix Ophthalmologists has the absolute best staff of technicians and doctors. Very friendly, kind and clearly there to help make your day (and life) better. Thank you for the wonderful experience! I will definitely be back for any and all vision related needs! She has managed to correct my vision, which is compromised, so that I am able to see very well. This is the best place ever... I work in Phoenix but actually reside in Southern California. While here, I developed an eye infection which I knew from past experience would require some minor surgery to correct. I found Dr. Jeremy Van Buren online and contacted their office. Feeling like "a fish out of water', I didn't really know what to expect. It's always tough when you have some medical emergency and you are away from home. All my medical history and such is with my primary care physician in California. Their office was extremely accommodating and got me in right away. They made me feel comfortable, and resolved my concern immediately. Everything turned out great and I am extremely thankful for their efforts. If you ever need eye care, without a doubt, this is the place to go !!!! read more

I guess this is more of a warning. Dr. Van Buren told me if I did cataract surgery he could put in a lens so I wouldn't have to wear glasses anymore. Sounded like getting both done at the same time would make sense. However, it was the beginning of my nightmare. He should have put in the right prescription. He did each eye separately and got both wrong. For a year and a half he tried to fix it with various procedures and even glasses. Eventually I went to another doctor who said my prescription was wrong. Huh? I was already wearing glasses. Seems to me Van Buren could just use that? Anyhow, the new optometrist prescribed glasses with the correct measurement and I can see again! However, all those thousands and thousands of dollars I paid both him and the surgicenter (not covered by insurance) is gone and I'm back to wearing glasses with no benefit. Would never recommend this guy. He only offered a partial refund. read more
