Delish! It was busy on this Sunday evening, but before seating us, the host/waiter/server/owner? wanted us to know that it will be about a 20 min wait for our food to come out. So, a little hard to find, but if you're in town, it's right next door to Mary Lou's Grill. They really need some better signage, because this place is one of the absolute best in the Carbondale area. On second thought, nah, keep it a secret so there's no huge crowds. The place was plain inside, but the service from everyone was spectacular and super friendly. We ordered a little of everything to taste it, and we were rewarded with 100% delicious food. We got the Kabsah chicken and the Aqda chicken and we shared, and boy were we glad we did. Everything was fresh and hot and delicious. The bread? To die for, and this coming from an admitted bread-aholic. Hot from the freaking oven. With hummus? Sheesh. It was good. We had more than enough to take home to a delicious lunch tomorrow. Dessert, too, was something utterly new and delicious to us--something with dates, I can't remember the name. It was warm, gooey and ohmygod rich. With a cup of the chai tea...wow. Carbondale has plenty of restaurants that don't serve great food...or maybe did at one time, but just don't care anymore. This place serves great food and seems eager to share it with people. That combination of great food in a pleasant, welcoming environment seems more and more rare these days, so my wife and I intend to support Aban Kitchen to the best of our ability. We've been coming here since 2015. The food was better when they started. We stop coming around end of 2016 early 2017 because the food quality was going downhill and aren't consistent. We saw lots of amazing reviews so we decided to give it another try. The food was delicious so far we usually order lamb mandi and lamb haneez but lamb mandi is no longer on the menu (maybe they are under different management now). We got lamb haneez, chicken khabsah and beef shawarma (as pictured) lamb haneez was delicious also they were generous with the lamb and the portion size of our orders. The chicken however was maybe a little dry but the salsa was really good although it could be a little more spicier for our liking. My husband loves the shawarma sandwich. Kudos to the different selections on the menu we love that changes. Definitely will come back. read more

I got to this place at around 5pm which is the time it opens in the afternoon. I thought I could get my food quickly cuz there were no people in the outside dining area. I was pretty hungry and was excited about the food (lamb kobsah, lamb mogulgul and foul ) my friend and I ordered. But! but! we waited for about 1 hour to get our first dish lamb kobsah. I was starving. But what really disappointed me was the food. The rice of lamb kobsah has no flavor. I would expect more spice. The lamb was very gamey. He even gave us free hot chai tea! Order both the black chai tea and the milk chai tea. Totally different flavors! My party had plenty of food with three entrées and three people. More than enough to take home. Now, i've seen some reviews about the time. Being someone who loves to cook global food often, i know how long it takes to properly cook middle eastern food! We finally stopped in for lunch after wanting to try for quite some time... It did not disappoint! We started off with hummus and bread. Wow, was it not just like a pizza-sized version of the best naan ever! The hummus was creamy and authentic, too. The chicken haneez tasted like it had cooked for much longer than an hour, as it fell right off the bone. The sides were excellent too. Spice and seasoning were very uniquely Yemeni in the saltah, which was a great introduction to this type of cuisine. Not to mention the Yemeni Chi, which was one of the best hot teas I've had in quite some time! More than anything, our waiter was very friendly and answered our questions, and the owner even came to talk to us. Hap got the Lamb Mogulgul and the hummus was amazing. I got the Lamb Kabsah. I wasn't expecting the lamb to be bone-in but I am glad it was. I believe it added a lot of rich depth of flavor to the dish. The rice that came with my dish was delicious and was filled with sweet caramelized tiny pieces of onion. I also got a cup of hot chai.
