Sam's is AMAZING! The best gyro I've ever had. Seriously, the gyro meat is tender and delicious and there's more of it than I can usually eat. Sam is among the nicest and friendliest people I've met in Carbondale. Everytime I go in he asks me how school is going, gives me a pep talk and talks to me about his daughter. This place is a scam! This guy charged $20 dollars for 10 baby chicken wings, small fry and a drink! This establishment does not belong on a college campus. He changes the price by like 4 dollars pending on if you are paying cash or credit. How does a 12.99 ( super small) 10 piece wing go to $20 by just adding a fry and a drink (both small in size). The menu is also sketchy. This place needs to be reported in so many ways. DO NOT GO HERE!! read more

If you are hammered drunk, go here. I know it's good sober too because I can never actually finish the whole Heart Attack at night and it turns into breakfast. Everybody keeps talking about how nice the servers are and that is actually very true. It's the college students you have to watch out for. It isn't uncommon for fighting to break out in front of this place at 2 am. Not the businesses fault though. Great food. Watch your back for the stupid people. read more

My review will be only on the item I purchased, not the establishment itself as I have never physically been there due to ordering while at work from GrubHub. I ordered the Gyro greek salad. Plenty of meat, plenty of lettuce, 4 small pieces of tomato and white onion chucks the at least an inch long and thick and that is it. When I think about a greek or gyro salad, there is normally kalamata olives, red onion, and cucumbers along with a oil based vinaigrette dressing. I did get tzatziki sauce which tasted like sour cream with cucumber chunks and not seasoning. It is everything someone may want in a Gyro but I ordered a salad. Where I would like to try something else from Sam's Cafe, I most likely will not. They should stick to burgers and everything that people give 4-5 stars for. If you cannot produce good food, or good appealing food, why bother? I have heard this place is great, I believe they have lost their touch. read more

Only got met with a locked door, and a guy came out and just wanted to know how my "vagina" (actually used the p word) tasted! DO NOT BELIVE THESE REVIEWS! He met his match tonight. Sam's Cafe Drunk: AMAZING! Best burger around! Sam's Cafe Sober: Pretty good. Servings are very large, impossible for me to finish in one sitting. Very salty- It's called a heart attack burger for a reason. If you are drunk- try anything. If you are sober- Get the chicken, bacon, swiss sandwich or something light, because their burgers are huge, meaty, cheesy, and delicious. The heart-attack is a double cheeseburger with gyro meat and bacon on top, as well as mayo lettuce tomato. The food is good! The service can be good or horrible, depending if you are coming for dinner or for part of the drunk rush. read more

The food here is pretty damn good and to be all honest, the reason I come here is because the guy that works the front counter is probably one if the nicest people in all of carbondale. If you go in once he will remember you every time. Try and eat here during the day... Once the bars close this place looks like the mall in the movie dawn of the dead... Nothing beats the legendary food and service that Sam's Cafe has provided for years. The manager recognized me after a couple years of not going in, and hooked me up with an extra side. It is worth being a regular just for the food, and the excellent service makes this unsuspecting spot a gem. The bacon is legendary, on a bacon cheese burger or heart attack. The first time I visited the location I was worried about the food and how it would taste but to my surprise it was pretty good. Not great but good. The second time I ordered which was last night I ordered the right time the Chicken Gyro and Fries. It was exactly what I was expecting. Sometimes you want grease tasty food and other times you just want something good and semi healthy and Sam's Cafe has it all. These guys are the homies. Best food after a night out. Used to order the whole menu for a house party, drive buy and pick up chicken shawerma sandwiches with fries and mushrooms. Killer mozzarella sticks, burgers are big and juicy. Chef is the owner most of the time, cashier is nice and friendly, recognizes everyone, even got in a huge brawl outside because some drunk guy was over the top disrespectful and started fighting people, owner came out and stepped in. Very good people, they love their customers, food is good sober and drunk. Can't wait to go back to Carbondale to visit. Must Visit, just know they do get super busy at night.
