I have contacted this company twice. My name is Gay Hunt . They are Abacus Heating and plumbing. I took off of work 1 day last year for my AC. I waited all day at my house. They never showed up. Then today I called them yesterday. And they were supposed to show up today. To give me a estimate on my plumbing work. On a drain. I took off of work again today. February 12th, and guess what never showed up, did not call me, just like the last time. What kind of two bit company is this place. In all they owe me 3 days of pay. I am 70 years old, very honest and truthful. The first time they stood me up. They sent me $60* 2 coupons. Which are in my book worthless. If this worthless company cannot show up. I don't know what kind of company they are. Never heard of any company treating a customer like this. And I am 70 years old. I would give them minus 10 Stars if I could. On day 1 I asked the man inside of the truck if he'd please ask his men to clean up the mess left behind post a portion of their plumbing work which lead into the back yard. He assured me he'd handle it. It was NOT. its been there a few days now. Before writing this I said let me call and ask one more time. If I could give zero stars, I would. We had an AC unit installed on August 9, 2025, and it has been nothing but a nightmare since. Shortly after installation, leaks appeared in my one-year-old son's room and our living room. When someone finally came to check, they admitted there was a hole in the pipe they installed, which caused major damage inside our home. We were then told another tech would come out "the next day," which turned into another wait. That tech tried to blame the problem on our house being built before the 1980s -- information they already had before ever starting the job. Then, unbelievably, they told us it would cost an extra $2,000-$4,000 for them to fix their own mistakes. Meanwhile, our home now has ceiling bubbles, water-damaged flooring, and peeling paint from their sloppy work. My husband even went into the attic himself and took photos proving the leak is from a crack in their sealant/pipe, not the "full trap" excuse they're now trying to use to dodge responsibility. On top of this, their communication is awful -- constant delays, vague promises, and no real accountability. The technician before he even tells me how to solve the issue is telling me how much money it's gonna cost to fix but doesn't get into the problem.. The technician has pointed 2 times at the installation of the tankless. Did not want to try to resolve the issue. Whatsoever and then refuses to work on it.So why should I pay them? 24.00 dollars a month, When they can't come up with a solution first and then we'll talk about what it costs. We asked for a Eco filtration system through COSTCO. THEY SENT OUT A MAN ON Friday December 19 2025. We were told a whole house system would be $7588. To be installed Monday December 22nd. This time around we were having our first electrical inspection done. The appointment was set for the 8:00 - 12:00 time frame. Around 10:00 the service tech, Bryan, called to let me know that he was about 45 minutes away. He showed up as stated. He was polite and professional. He explained everything that he was going to do. When he got to the issue that will need to be addressed, he showed me all of his concerns and explained things to me. He didn't try to push me into a "you have to do this right now" decision but did state that it would need to be done. He went over service plans, finance options and what the work would entail/completion time. He came across as trustworthy and not deceptive of his results. And our service tech checkers both approved of him, as seen in the picture. Another good experience with Abacus. We have been working with Abacus for 15+ years; overall, they've been really good to work with (the bulk of the work is A/C). I am writing this review because their latest work was outstanding and fixed a bunch of issues. We have Abacus check our a/c and heating systems twice a year - summer and winter. The estimate we got this summer proposed replacing our AC units , which was extremely unexpected and not cheap. We requested a more senior technician to explain why this was just coming up, and they sent Jason Finlay. He is very knowledgeable about airflow - which was really helpful as the air in the attic wasn't circulating correctly. Unfortunately, we ended needing an overhaul of our system - which was much more expensive than the original estimate! But we are more comfortable on how the system is working. I appreciated that Jason was always available to answer any questions we had, including drawing diagrams of the work being done. The teams Abacus sent out were always professional and very helpful. So, my thanks to Jason, Jose, Hector, Eric, Michael and Pablo (I'm sure that's not a complete list.) Thanks to Abacus. read more

ABACUS WAS A NO CALL, NO SHOW & never even called the next day to apologize & ask if I wanted to reschedule. On May 17, 2025, I had a breaker issue with the switch not staying on the ON side. Someone came out to assess & basically convinced me to redo the entire electrical breaker box. Said the current switches/quads were "deemed not safe". So, I spent $7,262.40 on a new one. About 5 weeks later I called for appt. to have someone look at the new electrical panel because it was flipping again. On July 1, '25 I had an appointment, between 8am - 12noon. Around 11:30am someone called to say the tech was running behind schedule & could they do it tomorrow. I said, no, that I already waited 5 days for this appt. & have been waiting all morning. So, she said, okay, it will have to be sometime this afternoon... Is that okay? I said yes. I waited, & waited, all day & finally gave up at 7:00pm. Needless to say, I was upset & disappointed that no one bothered to call & say they were not able to come out. I fully expected to hear from them the next day, apologizing for not coming, calling & to see if I wanted to reschedule. NOT A WORD FROM ABACUS. That's exactly how you lose customers, Abacus, and you've lost me... No more with Abacus. There's plenty of competition out there. read more

STAY AWAY!!! The most crooked company! Technicians are incentivized to upsell and find issues. Every time they come for annual "maintenance", something happens to break right after. Well this time, he happens to find our hot water heater is "broken" while doing AC maintenance. Well we know for a fact that the burner system was attached before he went up there and we had hot water no problem. All the sudden it's detached with all screws missing and the hot water magically disappears from our house as soon as he was up there. Of course tried to write a $700+ proposal to get fixed. Well another company came and they said the screws had been removed and the coupling scratched. Can't believe this technician was so crooked! I will never use abacus again!! Stay away!! If you pay your technicians to find issues then they will make issues and think women like me won't figure it out! read more

Abacus plumbing did a good job assessing my problem and fixing it. They gave me good advice too. I was able to schedule them quickly and they showed up on time, fixed promptly and were on their way. Very happy with the operations side but was upset to not have checked the "flush drain" pricing beforehand. It was around $350. Yikes. This company performed their recommended mold prevention work on my air conditioning/ HVAC unit which was functioning perfectly prior to their work. Immediately following the service the unit stopped working. Their explanation. " not related to the work they performed" The problem, a leak in the hose which they bent and had to reposition and reattach. Their explanation was that it was an original installation defect. One that never existed and just happened to become a problem immediately following their work. Plausible? Sure. Likely? About a million to 1 odds. Had Abacus out to do winter heater inspection under VIP ( they brag about free inspections under VIP, but they aren't free you pay a monthly charge of $25 each month). So I was told I had dust in the vnets and on the fan motor they wanted $3,000 to clean, I was told each system, I have 2 needs a bacterial cleaning system installed. Total recommended cost was $9,000 plus filters. Ha Ha. Every technician is a up-sell salesman. Mine was nit such a good salesman, he trued to tell me that the bacterial cleaning systems were like CoVID shots. On the dust, I asked isn't that what the filters are supposed to do and the technician said yes, but the filters can get dirty and then the dust could harm your system. They wouldn't give me a copy of their recommendations and I didn't get any supposed VIP discounts. Abacus kept cancelling and not calling about send a Lennox technician they promsed. The next day I cancelled my VIP service and stopped all further maintenance and interface with Abacus. I think they are unprofessional up salesman and I would not recommend them. I was charged over $400 for the replacement of two light switches. I'm no expert on the electrician trade, but doing one of the simplest jobs an electrician can do, with negligible cost of parts should not , in my opinion, cost me over two hundred dollars per switch. read more

July of 2024, we made the decision to do a total replacement for our AC unit, as well as, extended warranty for labor and parts for 10+ years. Over $13k for the total package. Since then, it has been a total nightmare. We have had technicians out over a dozen times to "fix" the brand new AC. The AC has not and still does not keep up when it is hot outside. Abacus refuses to let us speak anyone in Management or a Supervisor. They just keep giving us the run around on how they need to send out someone else out to see what is going on. They claim that they have 100% guarantee and that they will replace the unit if a customer is not satisfied with the work. THAT IS A LIE! They have never figured out what is going on with the unit and why it cant hold the temperature. They Claim, they have "fixed" the problem over a half of dozen times, but still does not work. We are at the point that we now have to seek legal counsel. I forgot to mention that we physically showed up to their office to beg for help to fix the problem. Problem is still not solved. We have been doing business many years w/Abacus who provides good quality services. They handle our electricity, HVAC, and plumbing. We're listed as VIP clients. Therefore, we were byond SHOCKED when technician came out to look at wall-sconce in theatre room. Turns out only the bulb was bad. For this we were charged over $200! Sooooo byond ridiculous to even charge $75 for basically nothing! I purchased a thermostat with WiFi capability from Home Depot and ordered installation. Abacus called within 10 minutes, came in the following day. The guy came. I confirmed that the installation is $99, and he said yes. I gave him the thermostat from HD which cost ~$99. He said he cannot install that one, he needs to install what he has. I ask how much, he said 51. It's a basic thermostat that cost probably ~$30. I agreed. After it was installed, I was ready to pay. He said it cost $551. I said that thermostat does not cost $500. He insisted that's the cost in their system. I asked him to take it out from the wall and reinstall my old one. I thanked him for doing that. Never get Abacus to do service in our home. read more

Abacus came to us via referral from Lowes. Water heater went out in my 81 year old mothers house. I booked them for a Monday. They showed up on Wednesday never updating us as to the delay. They charged her almost 1800 dollars just in labor for a 3.5 hour install. It was a simple to get to, easy job that I would have done myself ifI lived in her town. That 1800 labor fee did not include the water heater which we had already purchased.. There are many ethical companies out there. I do not believe that Abacus is one of them. Lowes, who undoubtedly contributed to the usurious fee wetting it's own beak, is also off my list for anything service related as they jjust refer out to companies like Abacus. This company will take advantage of the customer and they are crazy expensive. we made a appointment to come out and take care of a few items. The technician was great but that's where it ended. They replaced 2 P-traps under the bathroom, ran a plumbing snake to clear a shower drain, reseated a toilet with new wax ring and installed a faucet (which we provided) to our outdoor kitchens sink. Total bill was $3000. Yes $3000. the total parts cost couldn't have more than $100 and I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt. I called in and talked to someone who sent me to customer care which was no help They said the tech would give me a call. I don't need to talk to the tech( who did a gre job) I want talk to the owner to help explain to me how a service, that should have been $800-$1000 cost 3 times that $3000. I told them no because how can you trust someone to install a generator when they can't make a 4 hour window to give an estimate or call letting me know they are not coming. What happened to them? Abacus installed our HVAC in May 2024 which we purchased through Costco. Install was fine. Techs did not put in a new thermostat because he said what we had was what they are currently using. I thought that was odd because the brochure for the system has a much larger control pad that looks completely different to what we have which is 12 years old. In time noticed that one room in the house did not cool like the others. So I called and inquired about the control pad and an adjustment to the room cooling. She said someone would get back to me. NO ONE EVER DID. I called again with the same issues and was told someone would get back to me. NO ONE EVER DID, AGAIN. I believe one of the customer service reps I spoke to had a name that begins with "A" but I don't remember her name. I finally let it go. I called at the one year anniversary to have our HVAC tuned up. When I made the appt. Carlisha told me the various things they check and one of those was replacing the filter. When the tech arrived, he never used anything other than his tablet either when he was in the attic nor when he was outside. I would think he would need some tools. He advised me he was out of filters (odd) but he said it was okay to run the AC until tomorrow without a filter. I was not okay with that so I had to run out to Home Depot and buy one which my husband put in later that day. I called the next day (Valerie) because I thought I should be credited for the filter since the rep told me it was included. I was told that they do not change the filter. So Houston HVAC companies do not include the filter with an HVAC tune up? We are an hour north of Houston and the local companies here DO include a filter with a tune up. My wife called Abacus for a leak under the bathroom sink when I got home the guy done changed the water line coming from the faucet to the cutoff valve on the wall. this part cost at the most $10 or more.This was during Christmas and the guy charged around $350 dollars. Spent $13k on a 2 stage system, entire 1st week the system was running 6+° higher than set temp, a week later they sent a guy that's been with them 3 days by himself, he found out the fan speed was set way too high. I explained the condenser was much louder than it should be, he put a soft start on it. Still having issues they had to come replace the condenser a week and half later. I lost several shifts at work, health issues with the heat, aggravation and lost time and all they are wanting to offer for compensation is a few extra years of maintenance and some filters?!! Repairman looked at panel and AC, Maybe 10 minutes. Quoted me $8600 to replace. Said all looked good but not sure what was causing issue. Just replace entire panel for $8600. What a good business model. Pay a high service fee and if the $8600 scares u away well they received $199. Read reviews on Yelp. Same scam. High service fee, quick review and high quote to fix.
