Not sure what happened to this place but they've really taken a nose dive. Ordered a chicken wrap and have no idea what I was given. The ones in the picture were wrapped in nan but this one was in some dry 99 cent tortia that was soggy and fell apart. The chicken in the wrap tasted microwaved and the veggies did to. The final straw for me was, I asked for red chutney and was just given hot sauce. Like what the actual fk. I just threw the whole thing away and decided to go to bed hungry rather then eat it. read more

Everything was great about this. And I'm not just saying that after a gruelling 8 hour shift helping at a restaurant. The daughter of this mom and pop shop was incredibly sweet and inviting. They were also very accommodating of the dog we brought. The chilly chicken momo's had an amazing blend of spice and were fantastic. The chicken steamed momo's had the perfect texture and spice as well. The creamy sauce sat nicely in the flavor profile to enhance but not overpower. But before i get too obnoxious on rating this dish, The aama chicken appetizer thing we got was insane. It had a subtle but fantastic profile and the chicken was well cooked. My only feedback was to serve this first as the other momo's were stronger in flavor. Overall, I'll be back to aama! read more

I wanted to try something new and found this on yelp. I was lucky to find street parking and a nice table for myself(went solo). Lovely to see how lively it was and food was worth the wait. Aama Kitchen serves delicious and flavorful Indian dishes with a small section for Himalayan/Nepalese dishes...i mainly I visited for the momos! I discovered momos about 10 years ago when I first had Himalayan/Nepalese food in Berkeley's Gourmet Ghetto. Then later found a place in Old Oakland with variations of lamb, chicken and veggie. Ever since I've become hooked on them! Momos are dumplings that can be fried or steamed - Aama Kitchen offers vegetarian or chicken steamed dumplings which is served with a dipping sauce...The chicken momos are wonderful with a thin wrap and flavorful filling but wished they offered a mixed momo option so you can try both variations. The dipping sauce was mild and different from what I've had. Other places have the common peanut chili dipping or spicy tomato chutney but was nice to try something different. Other dishes ordered: :: Lamb (8pcs) Biryani - slight difference than Indian versions - this dish had cashews (which was a nice), topped with caramelized onions and rice texture was a little softer - yummy :: Shrimp Coconut Curry - wonderful sauce but flavors was a bit mild All dishes can be made with your choice of heat level. Dishes ordered medium and it was perfect for someone who likes heat but not burning! :) Service was friendly but there will be some wait time and lulls as they only have 2 people working with a third arriving later. I'm sure once they get into a groove (working the kitchen, filling online orders and the dining room) service will be better. Plenty of menu options that has me curious to return again soon. Maybe the best butter chicken I've ever had-- flavorful and tender, luxuriously velvety. Garlic cheese naan excellent in flavor and texture. Lamb sekuwa was meaty and tender; lively with complex layers of spices and aromas such as coriander, cumin, dried chilies, fresh onion, cilantro, lemon. Sadeko chicken momo were tender and juicy on the inside and tossed is similar flavor profile to sekuwa. Rasmalai was smooth and soft with a lovely cardamom fragrance, not too sweet and not remotely squeaky. Menu has quite a lot of variety, from familiar favorites to unique/ more uncommon fare. Portions were generous. Server friendly. Really appreciate that it's open late (and conveniently on my way home from SFO! lol) Looking forward to trying more of the menu! read more

My gosh, what a gem. It was my first time having Himalayan food, and I was impressed. My favorite dish had to be their Jhol momo- a beautiful chicken dumpling soaked in a curry like soup. Went around 10 pm last night as this place is open till 11. We ordered the chicken jhol momos and the Nepali thali with chicken option. The Jhol momos were absolutely delicious and perfect for the cold night. The momos were stuffed full of chicken and the soup/sauce they came in was so flavorful! The nepali thali was pretty much like an Indian thali and quite tasty. The chicken curry was well made and so was the dal and the saag paneer. The garabanzo beans were just ok. Came with a huge bowl of rice, papad, pickle and yogurt. Service was prompt and restrooms were clean. Will go back for more momos and perhaps to try the indo Chinese dishes. read more

Tried this place for the first time after a performance and it more than met expectations. Truly a gem in Hayward and so unassuming on the outside. No parking lot so you'll have to park on the street or around the corner. We tried the tandoori chicken, goat biryani, steamed chicken momos, and the garlic naan. All of it was amazing, but the standout was definitely the momos. I'm already thinking about the next time I can go back. The wait staff was attentive and easygoing despite it being a busy night on a holiday weekend, and the restaurant is clean and has a homey feel. We had an amazing dinner at Aama's Kitchen in Hayward on Saturday. We called the restaurant before we went and he told us the meat is halal. When we got there they confirmed the meat is halal, the proprietor even showed us a receipt to reassure us that the meat is halal. The owner is not Muslim but they do serve halal meat. Just make sure to request it. We ordered the thali (with chicken curry), chicken chowmein, half steamed chicken momos and half fried chicken momos, garlic naan, mango lassi and pistachio kulfi. We ordered the food mild so our toddler could also eat it. The uncle running the restaurant was super kind and offered to make some noodles for our little one without any spices and make a separate mild one for us, which he really didn't have to do and was so thoughtful. The food was all super delicious, really great flavors. We left super happy and will be back again! read more

Whew! Where do I start? Well well, this is a hidden gem on a busy road. Googled random Indian food and this gem came up. First, the customer service was beyond words. The owner was beyond polite and very attentive to our needs. He made us feel welcomed and helped us decide on what we wanted to eat. He made us laugh most of the time at his restaurant. What a wonderful dining experience we had at Aama's kitchen! we were greeted immediately and told we could sit anywhere we pleased. We chose a cute window seat and enjoy the ambiance and decor of the restaurant. We started with veggie samosa and the delicious house salad, both were very flavorful. The main dishes came out quickly and we loved the cute heart drawn in the chicken tikka masala! we also tried the aloo gobi and garlic cilantro naan. The chicken tikka masala was one of the best we've ever had, a perfect balance of spice and the chicken was so tender. We really loved the aloo gobi as well, the cauliflower was also very tender and the potatoes were perfectly cooked, the sauce we could not stop dipping back into with our naan. The owner came over to speak with us and we realized we're neighbors what a joy to patronize a neighborhood restaurant and eat local! We can't wait to come back and try more of the Himalayan side of the menu! read more

We drove all the way from Milpitas to Hayward based on the reviews. Overall it was ok experience. The goat curry gravy had too much tomato. The momos were too small compared to what we get at other places. The chicken noodle was ok and kids enjoyed it. Aama's is amazing!! From the food to the experience, this has become my new favorite place when I'm craving Indian food. I haven't tried the Himalayan food yet but I hope to soon.
