They said they were not given the correct description of the services I needed and I was going to be slapped with a huge surcharge if I passed the 2-hour mark. During booking the appointment, I went over what I need TWICE to make sure it was clear, no surprises. I ended up moving the small stuff myself, and called off work. Super Inconvenient.

We purchased a grand piano for $5,000 and needed to have it transported to our home. We were…read morereferred to a large piano moving company called Blue Dolly. Before hiring them, I specifically asked about their experience and whether they were professional, licensed piano movers. I was told that they were professionals, properly trained, and experienced in moving grand pianos. I was quoted approximately $1,083 for the move. I was specifically told that they would disassemble the grand piano, including removing the legs and the lid, transport the pieces safely, and then reassemble the piano at our home. Their website also stated that they were professional movers and that grand pianos would be disassembled for transportation. When the movers arrived to pick up the piano, they did NOT disassemble it. They transported the grand piano on its side with three legs still attached. When they arrived at our home, I immediately questioned them and asked why the piano had not been disassembled as promised. They told me not to worry and said that it was fine. When they attempted to turn the piano over, they broke one of the legs and caused significant damage to the piano. The leg was broken out, and the side/body of the piano was bent and severely damaged. The piano was essentially rendered unusable. At the time, the movers told me not to worry because they had insurance and that everything would be taken care of. I told them that I expected them to take the damaged piano back and either repair it properly or replace it with another piano. They agreed and told me that they would return the next day, take the piano apart, remove it, and bring me another piano. They never came back. It has now been approximately one month. The moving company filed an insurance claim, but the insurance company has offered only $336 for the damage. We have contacted several piano repair companies, and we have been told that repairing the piano would cost approximately $2,500-$5,000. In addition to the $5,000 purchase price of the piano, we paid approximately $1,083 to the moving company for the transportation service that they failed to perform properly. The moving company is now claiming that the piano was damaged at our home and is refusing to accept responsibility. They are offering only $336. This is completely inconsistent with what actually happened. The piano was not damaged before the move. The movers caused the damage while attempting to turn the piano over after transporting it improperly without disassembling it as they had promised. What is especially concerning is that, before hiring them, I specifically relied on their representations that they were professional, licensed, and experienced piano movers. Their website represented that they were qualified to move grand pianos and that grand pianos would be disassembled for transportation. However, after the damage occurred, the movers who actually handled our piano told me that they were not professionals, had never done this before, and did not know how to properly move a grand piano. I believe the company may have misrepresented its qualifications and failed to perform the services for which we paid. I also believe they are now attempting to shift responsibility for damage that their employees caused.

My brother-on-law moved 3 trailers full of stuff, going back and forth from Hugo to Blaine before they even got to my house the first time, we all left at the same time. I think they were intentionally slow so they could charge us 4x's the amount quoted to me for an entire day (which is only 4 hours for them). They also broke multiple items, even with their "insurance" I was not reimbursed for anything. I also had to have them correct the contract 5 times before they actually got it correct. This company is horrible, if I could give them negative stars I would. This company is so crooked they are a circle! Response: your crew did not take an unpaid lunch break, it was included in the time they added to my bill at the end. They also very much pressure me to tip them because, as they put it, "This company does not pay us very well." Not only was I quoted roughly $1500, and it ended up costing me almost $5K for the service, I ended up tipping them because they know where I live and I didn't want anything to happen to my wife, and your crew took more breaks than they actually worked. Regardless of what you say, your company is crooked, incompetent, and needs to be put out of business. My next report is to the BBB!

My parents liked the manager, and the packing team was very good, which was heartening because according to Indeed, the job pays at or near minimum wage. The local moving company they work with did a good job too, picking up items from the house and from a warehouse to bring to the apartment. After speaking with a few friends who were customers under Gentle Transitions ownership, I see the fees have gone up since the company was sold to a national business, and is owned by a private equity firm. If you're not price sensitive, this is a great service. But if you do want to be thoughtful, it pays to get a few bids and ask each company where money can be saved. And even before you ask for a bid, be aggressive about donating or giving away possessions!! There are so many options in the Twin Cities. Also, if you want to supply some boxes, it is cheaper to provide you own, as we paid for every box they supplied (even though we didn't keep them) and for everyones time, and it adds up quickly. But remind them on the day since between the bid and packing day, staffing changed and some of our boxes were missed. Side bar: is you're starting a pile of things to donate, place them together in the same room so they're mentally out of the way. Few things to look at means less brain energy going toward constant mental sorting. Moving is nothing but decisions decisions decisions. Start now and you'll feel better in the long run.
