    Loco moco
    Atiyyah S.

It was my first time here. Me and my friend were just dead hungry so we picked a random place. I got the loco moco and he got the mochiko chicken. I'm going to stay honest ... my loco moco had virtually no flavor. The only slight "flavor" I got was from the gravy which tasted like a pinch of salt AND like whoever made it might have been wearing strong lotion on their hands as they made it. But I will say the Mac salad wasn't bad but the noodles seem off but regardless effort was put into making so that gets a C+. I liked my friends Mochiko chicken much more but I still felt like it was missing something.... Maybe a sauce to dip it ? Some spice ? Service was average. I didn't dine in but it's a cute little local looking place. I'd still say give it a try~

Good Morning... I do see many stop here at various times of the day though i thought that breakfast would be perfect as they open early daily at 6am and with lots of parking provided along with Don Quijote it would be an easy stop to pick up something to start my day. Breakfast is quite simple with either a plate or omelette and i just wanted a simple Portuguese sausage, scrambled eggs and rice which for $8.99 came with a generous scoop of rice and five pieces of Portuguese sausage was a great deal and was made quite fast. The staff is your average friendly crew though i could see a man cutting meat right in the back sink without any gloves that really got me concerned and a bit of an eww moment and more of wondering what else are they not doing. Breakfast was good and the service was nice but the vibe is a bit dated and needs to be a bit more cleaner between the AAA and Don Quijote. Thank you!

This place is located at the strip of eateries outside of Don Quijote on Kaheka. They have been here forever, but it was my first time trying it out. They serve mostly plate lunches and breakfast plates. I went with the mochiko chicken plate $12.99. They gave a lot of chicken, so you get a bang for your buck. It was hot out of the fryer, crispy and had a nice flavor. I waited about 10 minutes for my plate. I wouldn't mind trying out some of the other entrees the next time I'm in the area.

This place is really a gem. Breakfast is always a go to here, the specials are such a good deal at only 9.99. The flavor of everything is seasoned well from the griddle. Service is good and your order comes out fast. The parking shares from Don Qi so you always have a place to park ambiance is nothing special but you aren't there for a scenic view. Definitely pick this up if you're traveling to/from town.

I got to try the chicken katsu plate for $12.99 and "WOW" they do give a lot and it was very tasty. I ended up saving some to have it as a dinner. The lady working there is very helpful and friendly and she just makes everything good.

Lunch plates were freshly cooked to order. Good macaroni, quality rice and decent portions. Food was on the pricier side compared to the other stalls along Don Quijote entrance but probably average compared to Waikiki lunch plates. Plenty of shared picnic tables for dining. Daily special board did not advertise any special savings items (same prices as regular menu). Stingy with utensils.

I agree with the other yelpers. It's decent. I wouldn't avoid this place but wouldn't seek it out. Kinda like most of the Don q food - decent price, convenient, wouldn't seek it out. Got the special w mochiko and adobo pork. Like other reviewers said their mochiko is good. Not a ton of flavor but crispy. Adobo was meh - tender but bland. Mac was fine

Mochiko Chicken plate with (2) scoops white rice, & mac salad. ($10.46 w/tax). Surprisingly, not bad at all for the price I paid.

I've passed by this plate lunch joint many times when I was heading to U-Choice In for my rice cake fix, but what led me here was due to my Yelp Buddy - Bruddah Jace T. who had posted numerous pics of his ono looking plate lunches from this joint called - "AAA Local BBQ". After seeing his plate lunch pics of his Chicken Katsu, as well as his Mochiko Chicken......... I was sold and figured I'd better investigate da situation! Made my way down to the Don Quijote (Kaheka location), and you can find AAA Local BBQ on the outside entrance area of Don Quijote - (as there are many eatery businesses sitting on the outside entrance of DQ). I already knew what I came for, so I really didn't bother to look at their menu. When it was time for me to place my order, I told the nice lady that I wanted a Mochiko Chicken plate. What can I say about the grub? Surprisingly, my Mochiko Chicken plate was much better than I had expected! Yeah, I still have my all time FAVORITE plate lunch joint for Mochiko Chicken in da Manoa Marketplace, but AAA Local BBQ also did a pretty good job on their version of their Mochiko Chicken (as far as taste goes). The price for their Mochiko Chicken plate at AAA Local BBQ was much cheaper than my favorite plate lunch joint in Manoa, but as for their chicken pieces (volume), my favorite plate lunch joint in the Manoa Marketplace still wins hands down!!! It's still kinda refreshing to find a plate lunch just barely over $10 bucks! Da $5.00 plate lunches are long gone my friends........... AAA Local BBQ has a pretty extensive menu - as their menu covers breakfast, lunch, & dinner. If you have a party and don't wanna cook, looks like AAA Local BBQ also does catering too! Overall, a pretty good dining experience! Mahalo to Bruddah Jace T. for turning on a Bruddah to some Ono GRINDZ!

So cute, veg lumpia. 3 2-1/2" pieces of 5. $3.99/5 pc. Tasty.

One of the takeout food places attached to Don Quijote, Kaheka location. I decided to stop here becuase they have crinkle fries. I love crinkle fries! I ordered a BBQ burger combo and 5 pc lumpia w/diet Pepsi with extra ice. The burger was a good size, and was topped with mayonnaise, lettuce and tomato. But there was something odd with it. It wasn't quite right. The patty was way too soft and lacking any bbq flavor. I tried to figure it out as I continued to eat. Finished half and gave up. D- I love crinkle fries, but these were simply the worst. They looked like they were prepped for a photo shoot, so inviting and delicious. WRONG WRONG WRONG! The fries were 5 days under a heat lamp stale and completely inedible. Every single one. Believe me, I tried every piece! F The diet Pepsi was lacking of carbonation and went completely flat within 10 minutes. As for the extra ice, didn't get it. D- (for quenching my thirst with the first three sips, at least.) The vegetable lumpia are not very big, but it was hot and crispy and very nice. The vinegar sauce was slightly spicy and wonderful. A+ Sorry, but honesty is the best policy, even if it means saying I had a bad experience with a business. I trust fellow Yelpers and their reviews to help me make decisions. I want to help them, too.

Breakfast special, 2 eggs any style plain or fried rice, Smokey's and spam.. the price has gone up a little bit but still a good deal

The food is very similar to an L&L with prices a little lower. They have a breakfast special that is one of the best in the area in my opinion. They only have outside dining picnic tables in front of the don Quixote there.

    $6.99 fries..did I mention soggy
    Sheri M.

Last time we were here was last year during summer break. Definitely went down hill and prices ware outrageously crazy. French Fries cost $6,99 plus tax. It wasn't even crispy just soggy and oily.

1 dollar extra for breakfast after 10:30

Great plate lunch place, my favorite for lunch is the katsu curry. Locals may rate lower than me because prices have gone up and the quality has gone down, but to compare with what's in walking distance would be more fair. It's a good deal, good location, relatively good prices and I could eat here every day for local style breakfast. No, of course it's not healthy. How do you think I developed my Moke physique?

They have delicious food. Their beef stew is awesome. The breakfast menu is very reasonable and they give a lot in Fried Rice.

The guava bar was delicious and flavorful and just crumbles in your mouth! Definitely one of the better guava bars I've tried. Love how crumbly it is. The salmon belly was delicious OMFG. It looks so simple and straightforward but that sht is so flavorful. It is crispy and yet soft on the inside. The salmon belly is cut into bite-sized pieces so I didn't have to worry about using a knife to cut it. I usually try salmon belly where it is usually seasoned lightly to bring out the natural flavor of the salmon, but Guava Smoked's salmon belly is just grilled in a way that makes the salmon sweet/crispy and still get traces of the salmon taste as well. It's definitely not your traditional Japanese-style way of cooking salmon belly but really just their own. I'd go back and get this again. Another thing too. I'd get this with beer. This would hit very hard with alcohol but because I don't drink I need a kombucha. The grilled salmon belly would go perfect with it. Cheers! Uncle was very helpful and kind when serving and if you dine-in he brings it to your table.

The meat is reasonably high quality, the banchan is generous (the last few times I went they even had poke as a banchan included with the meal), and the service is friendly. The "kimchee soup" is one of my favorite kimchee jjigaes on the island. Refills of meat flow generously out of the kitchen, unlike some other AYCE experiences where each subsequent order gets smaller and smaller until they finally cut you off because you've reached the time limit. I only have one gripe. While each table has a very powerful burner for grilling the meat, their universal approach is to prop up a tilted cast iron plate over the fire to grill on. It's propped at an angle so that the oil flows into a catch pan on the side. This usually means that the half of the plate tilted closer to the fire gets really hot, while the other half struggles to get hot enough and risks just boiling your meat. It also makes adjusting the fire a tricky process - if there's a lull between meats coming to your table, someone might come by and, understandably, turn down your flame. That's fine, but when the food does come out, it takes a long time to get the cast iron hot again. This doesn't stop me from coming back for more here, but just one thing I wish was better about an otherwise great experience. There is a parking lot out front but it is cramped and usually fills up. There is usually someone helping to guide parking, but when it's completely full there's only so much they can do. Street parking in the area can also be a little bit tricky.

The aunties here are still very nice but as always give grace because it does get busy here and one aunty would have to take care of multiple tables and party size as well. Overall I'll be coming here whenever I need my soondae fix!! If you haven't tried, definitely come and try! I still need to try the acye here with friends one day!
