Chicken Curry Salad (no wrap)
Cindi R.

What a blast from the past this old diner!! The train car just adds to the history. Friendly service. Found this as a place Guy Fieri went o about ten years ago. Sounded like a lot of locals come as everyone knows your name. I had the chicken curry salad wrap but without the wrap to make it gluten free. Heavy portion. Loved the raisens in the salad. Glad we stopped.

A special slice of diner history. Great food, friendly service, and you can't recreate that old diner ambiance. Worth the stop.

Would you believe that I had never been here before? We were in town to look at a house, as we are moving to the area. Stopped in for dinner. I LOVE a retro diner. I was expecting the typical diner food, but this was not that. It was BETTER. It had a very unique menu. I chose a sandwich with delicious toasted/buttered whole wheat bread, savory roasted Turkey, apple butter, a handful of arugula and Ooey gooey melty brie cheese. It was so good! The ambience is definitely that of an old diner, it's very cool! The colors. The materials. The size. The waitress was very nice as were all of the customers we met. The waitress was very helpful and sweet. I of course, immediately added them on Instagram. I can't wait to be a Gardiner local, and visit often! Looks like they have a stellar Christmas Eve bunch every year!

I drove from Greenville to meet a friend here. The ambience and experience is totally worth it; my friend had suggested this spot and I really enjoyed it. The service was superior and very friendly. The server was in tune with our situation; did not make us feel like we were overstaying our welcome, while we did spend 2 hours catching up. The food was very good (I got Korean bbq sliders/her ham grilled cheese), not outstanding, but in line with the overall experience and I would come back. Feeling like you are in a 1940s train car was super cool!!

Loved this place! Had blueberry waffles and homemade corned beef hash and it was all yummy. The staff was friendly and kept the great coffee coming. And you can't beat eating in an old train/trolley car!

Driving through the cute little town of Gardiner, Maine, situated next to a stream and placed on stilts so that it can reach the side walk is the time capsule known as the A1 diner! You must stop and eat! Prices are fair and the food is amazing. On a recent Sunday we stopped in for a late breakfast and we're not disappointed! Upon entering, we were faced with a counter with stools that looked right out of by-gone era. We sat down at the counter and ordered. I ordered the eggs Benedict that was served with mixed salad greens and home fries! I can't recall ever being served mixed salad greens with breakfast. What a treat! She had a mushroom omelet with toast and homefries that was thoroughly enjoyed. Both of our plates were heaped with delicious food that will definitely bring us back the next time we are in the area!

Cute little place.

We've eaten there three times. Consistently good service and high quality in our selection of menu items at reasonable prices!

My parents had raved about their previous experience here and wanted to bring us. We did arrive a…read morelittle later than open on Saturday and it was quite a long line. So firstly I would recommend showing up early or to expect a wait especially on weekends. Also related to this their space is quite small it can be a little chaotic with finding a spot to sit. Despite the small space they have made sure it is very beautifully designed and amazing vibes overall. Makes sense why it is so popular honestly. We snagged some of their outdoor seats and enjoyed the nice weather with our breakfast. They have a good mix of sweet and savory and talking to some others in line they said you honestly can't go wrong with anything on the menu. They have a great amount of coffee drink options too and when you order a large they are not lying, it is huge. I finished mine during breakfast but my wife and mother got theirs in a to-go cup before we left and looked like a normal sized large still. Food wise I felt like I had to try their Blueberry French Toast and it did not disappoint, great take on the dish. Only real complaint I could say is I would prefer a little thinner slice of bread so it can soak a little better but no real complaints. My wife got the Librarian Omelette (minus mushrooms) and it was large and jam full, they did not skimp on ingredients. Her only real complaint was some bacon was thicker than she prefers but again minimal. If you are looking for a spot to grab some delicious breakfast and/or coffee in central Maine this should be near the top of your list. From the overall vibes to quality of drinks and food you will likely have a difficult finding a better spot.

We tried Pistachio Chai latte, Chicken wrap and Toast. Chicken wrap was decent and the toast was…read morebaked in house. The toast came with complimentary jam and tasted delicious. The Pistachio was too sweet for our taste. The vibes and the energy of the cafe is amazing. It offers scenic view to dine outside.

Amazing old school customer service. Fantastic lobster roll and seafood stew! Such a fun vibe. 10/10read more

Maine has absolutely no shortage of seafood restaurants. What most people don't realize is that you…read morecan go as far as two hours Inland and still receive quality seafood directly from our waters. This is in augusta, which falls within that range. They have the option for ordering takeout Ahead of time or online. There is significant outdoor seatting as well as a small interior dining room. The interior has one non gender handicap, accessible bathroom. The menu is not excessive, but the portions are generous. CAUTION: pay close attention to the prices. they will fluctuate and you should not assume what the final cost of your meal will be beforehand!! My clam basket and my daughter's 1/4lb roll (2 20 Oz drinks) totaled $65!! Now I will absolutely give credit to them for the clam portion being large and high quality. These were the type of onion rings that I prefer, which are thinner and more crunchy with less batter. That said, the total completely blew my mind.Because even with a very industry standard upcharge for onion rings in place of french fries.I had sticker shock. I grew up near Portland so I understand the price of seafood can change quickly. But I would say do some price shopping. Because this is more about the experience of the location since the quality of food does exist at other restaurants. In maine.
