Authentic Chinese food in the warehouse district. More on the bland side but I don't mind. They give plenty of food at a great price. The milk tea is cheap at $1 per cup and it is good. They have a lot of different sauces. The hot chili oil looks home made and it is definitely spicy and tasty. My god, this place feels like such a hidden gem that it almost feels wrong to expose it to the world. They're like a little slice of heaven in these cruel times. There aren't many places in New York where you can get a main course, a side of rice with a complementary vegetable, and a drink for LESS than 10 dollars, and at such a high level of quality at that. It doesn't taste like a normal restaurant, it taste like you just sat down at someones home. Their delivery packaging is both sleek and most definitely reusable, the portions for the price is astoundong, amd the service is friendly over the phone. I highly recommend the Taiwan Braised Pork and both the South American Shrimp and the Korean Kimchi Beef pot sticker. It comes with a generous amount of beef and the broth is very nice not over-seasoned. Noodle is similar to udon. I also did some dumplings -- the fillings are tasty and again, very generous. Everything is excellent and all made in-house, absolutely no MSG (that alone already gets a five-star from me)! Service is super friendly although I was only doing take-out. Yes, this place has huge portions and very cheap for the quantity of food. But this place actually lacks a lot of flavor. The day we went the dumplings had a sour note to it so definiltey was not a fan. However, the 3 cup basil chicken and the pork were pretty good especially for the price. The tables were all very filthy and even though they guys wiped it down, the tables were still coated with crusty pebbles and oil. We went on a off peak time like at 2:30. The lady at the counter was super sweet and reminded me of our trip to Taiwan last year. Overall, the place is worth a try for a quick lunch especially for the prices. read more

If you want fancy schmancy but overly salted and pricey Asian food, there's King's County Imperial, Birds of A Feather, and Win Son, in the area. If you don't mind a hole in the wall with affordable eats and slightly more home style cooked Asian food, A-Pou trumps them all. I typically call for delivery and ask what veggies they have on hand, and order that. It can be anything from Chinese broccoli, to yu choy, to bok choy, but sometimes I get lucky and they have snow pea leaves. I love their tofu with sweet sesame sauce. My husband loves the Lu Rou rice, but says the pork can be quite fatty. My mother loves any variety of their food-- noodles, rice dishes, dumplings-- she is not picky. They take cash or credit. Delivery is quick, food is tasty, portions are excellent for the price, and A Pou is the absolute sweetest old granny there ever was.
