Dave was amazing, and he didn't even get a single penny from me. After pleading for 5 days with our building's management to send a bed-bug inspector, an expert finally shows up Friday morning. Management needed a "sample" before sending for someone (??). In any case, she inspects our bedroom and finds the little rascals (8 of them) on the back of our bed's headboard. With utmost coolness, she asks my wife and me to "prep the apartment" and proceeds to let us know that she'll be back in 3 days, on Monday, for her first treatment. She then leaves. What she did not know about was the neurosis my wife and I were experiencing. How on earth were we supposed to stay in the apartment for 3 more days, doing virtually nothing to stop these buggers? Aren't they gonna spread? Aren't they gonna completely take over our apartment? Where on earth are we supposed to sit!? That's where Dave comes in. We simply called him and explained the situation to him. He easily could have said that we should bring him over right away; he easily could have said that the expert from the morning visit had no idea what she was doing. Basically, he could've said anything at that point, since we were on the edge already, and we immediately would have asked him to come over that night. Instead, Dave did everything right. He was a great listener (both my wife and I needed to vent), very analytical when asking questions and responding to our concerns, and, most importantly, Dave was honest. He asked us both to calm down a little bit; he explained to us why our situation was not so bad; he educated us on bed-bugs; and then finally told us about his services and his prices (which sounded pretty fair, actually.) First I will say that after having several treatments (all covered under the same payment) we appear to be bedbug free in the house. When we first discovered the bugs we panicked like everyone else and wondered if we could get rid of them, but with diligence, the treatments, and following directions it seems to have worked and we're about 3 months out from the first sign and still going good. Healthy Home does two different types of treatments, both included in the same package. 1) Cedar oil fogging, 2) Diatomaceous Earth (DE). 1) Regarding the cedar oil fogging, I'm not entirely sure how effective it is, though there is at least one study which found the oil could kill bugs and even eggs on contact. At the very least it doesn't smell bad and isn't as toxic as pesticides. 2) The DE definitely works, though it isn't a contact killer which means you have to spread it around and wait for the bugs to walk through it. Yes, that means you have to sleep in your bed and wait for the bugs to bite you at night. A little creepy, but necessary and has been proven to work if applied correctly and diligently. Honestly I wonder whether I could have saved myself some money by simply trying the DE myself, but there is no way to know and since the treatments worked I would say it was money well-spent. If you are hard up for cash you might try to self-treat with just the DE, but if you have the money then AHH is actually cheaper than many other options and at least in my experience was effective and had a guarantee. Finally just a note to other folks that if you do discover bed bugs just remember that everyone else on here had the same problem and eventually got rid of them. It can be a painful, long, and expensive process, but you can get through it! read more

DO NOT PATRONIZE THIS COMPANY. I cannot stress that enough. I have no earthly idea where/how all of these 5 star reviews came from and find them very curious given my experience. I spent well over $1,000 on the "services" provided by this sham of a company. In the end? I ended up throwing away three couches, a bed, and having my life upended because of the persistence of bedbugs. When you're ordering a ribeye steak, organic is great. When you're trying to eradicate Next Level parasites? It is an exercise in futility. The treatments went on for over a month and little to no changes occurred. "Diatomaceous earth" is the substance they cover your floors in and will dry your skin beyond belief. I've read that it's sometimes effective, but I have literally been watching bed bugs crawl through the powder unfettered for months now. However, if you MUST go organic save yourself $1,500 and buy diatomaceous earth from an online retailer for less than $20 (shipped to your door) and spread yourself. ps - Good luck, you'll need it. The ineffectiveness of A Healthy Home's tactics is rivaled only by it's lack of customer service. The instructions were confusing and contradictory at best. When questioned, they were unprofessional and uninformed. Based on their repeated inconsistencies, I seriously doubt their working knowledge of bed bugs. As for advice, I'm not sure there is much I can say about other approaches as I don't know that many pesticides (if any) are effective, only that organic did not work for me. I have heard the heat treatment is pricey but effective, but who believes what they read on the internet anyway??????????? In closing, I genuinely hope you don't get bedbugs as I can assure you there is NO easy fix. Pro tip: take their advice and invest on mattress covers ASAP. We stopped dealing with bedbugs after we finally put them on our bed. I'm a little overdue for writing this, maybe because I was afraid we weren't yet out of the woods, but we had a very positive experience with A Healthy Home some months ago. Discovering we had bed bugs was distressing, and we knew very little about the process (are they on the dog? will our neighbors get them? do we need a new wardrobe?), and talking to David on the phone was equal parts education, appointment scheduling, and therapy. David came the day after I called and left the apartment smelling like cedar (one of the natural poison-for-bugs-harmless-for-us treatments they use) for weeks. The process to eliminate the bugs took longer than we would've liked, but hardly as a consequence of AHH's work. Bedbugs make me paranoid so I'm surprised I am giving five stars....I thought I would punish whatever company I had to give money to for this terrible experience but A Healthy Home turned a terrible experience into a bearable experience. I called a different pest control company and was left in tears after how unprofessional the "consultant" was. I was also worried about their lack of guarantee, despite the 2k they quoted me (for one treatment) for an extremely inconvenient experience. At that point I decided to attempt to eliminate the problem on my own until I ran across A Healthy Home on Yelp. David was so helpful; he informed me that his treatment was non-toxic and I didn't have to essentially move out of my apartment for treatments. Ben came to perform the treatments and was just wonderful. So kind and knowledgeable about bed bugs. The treatments itself weren't inconvenient. I have a cat; I just put her in the bathroom for about 6 hours. The place smelled like cedar but the only thing that was required of me was taking my sheets off the bed. Now, two treatments later, I haven't had a bite in about 3 weeks. I really wanted to wait until I'm sure I'm bedbug free (total neuroses here) but I don't think I'll ever be 100% certain, so I might as well just do it now and update if anything changes. The long and short of it is that David and Greg have (I think) completely solved my problem in three treatments. My story: I live in a four bedroom apartment with three roommates in a big building in a huge complex. I'd heard nothing about bedbugs but a little under 6 weeks ago I began waking up with my arms covered in bites. After getting past the denial, I acknowledged I definitely had bedbugs and called A Healthy Home. They quoted me at a slightly lower cost than another place I called, and I felt good about their green method since I have a cat. Greg came in the morning after I called and did my first treatment, thoroughly answering all my panicked questions - no the cat didn't bring them in or transfer them from room to room (I'm still the only roommate who's had them), yes I only have a few but they're definitely there, no none of this is toxic. I still don't know how I got them but I have learned a lot about them in the process. The bites declined but didn't stop, so I called a second time, praying that I would only need two treatments. Unfortunately, I was still getting bitten once or twice a night, so I called a third time. David did my third treatment and I'm pretty sure that time was the charm. I'm terribly sensitive to these suckers, developing giant itchy welts all over, and I haven't seen a bite or a bug in a week. The diatomaceous earth they put down is still everywhere and it dries the room out in a way I didn't think was possible, and I cannot WAIT to vacuum it up, but I'm leaving it down for at least the two weeks (will probably do three or four to be certain) and then I'll give the room a thorough cleaning. Here's what I know - I've done a TON of reading about bedbugs and where one person says one treatment is 100% effective, another will say it hasn't worked for them. I was going to do a heat treatment if this didn't work, since most of the reviews I've seen say it works well, but those treatments can run in the thousands, which I really can't afford. Overall this took a few weeks, but I can deal with that, and it required minimal effort and funding on my part. I only saw some once and they ran away quickly so I didn't even know it was bedbugs for 10 days, by then I had lacked so much sleep I was not thinking clearly! anyway not he get to work after reasonable quote wich was probabaly 1/4 of what chemical pest control but I had done research on the web showing that traditional pesticides are so harmful they have killed children before , and that they are in fact ineffective- that bedbugs have gotten resistant to them! now I am also an environmental activist so I felt sick that i'd have to have a dangerous chemical sprayed through my house where i live- with my child who suffers form severe allergies, skin reaction/ anaphalaxixs etc celiac disease, compromised immune system as do I. I had done more work than necessary- as I should have left all my clothing in there but tiresomely heat treated what I could. NOT NESSESSARY- HIS MOTHODS DID PROVE EFFECTIVE;The BUGS DROPPPED OFF The CLOTHING! now I did have to buy anew mattress set but I needed one anyway deparately an di suggest you do buy anew one its the best way and keep plastic on it or buy encasements. now eggs did hatch within week so a second fogging was necessary to remove small nits that hatched. this is effective because once the nits cant grow to full size they cant lay more eggs. I honestly had to ask for 3 treatments but I have a large townhome. and it could have been my fault trying to clean stuff myself and not just .. SIT BACK AND RELAX WHILE DAVID WORKS HIS MAJIC! AND THAT TRUELY IS ALL YOU HAVE TO DO SIT BACK RAELAX AND WATCH THEM ALL DROP OFF do too much and you mess up his treatment . he eliminated the needs for such work! this fogging wasn't unpleasant to the smell either. I may have paid just abit more than them but even thought they used landlords company they shelled out a lot for being fined for not having house prepared according to directions(landlords can do that) and they ended up with a huge cleaning bill and water/electric for all they had to wash etc. anyway , I did have to black off tehier entrance and they still live behind walls due to negligent landlords. BUt for now as long as I live here and they don't open up the access panel my child and I are protected form the night terror it truly was. would do it again HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT WAS EFFECTIVE EFFEICIENT AND EFFORTLESS only preparation is strip bed of all bedding wash and dry on hottest detting. it mightmean you lose comforter etc but that is always the case anyway. or you take to a large laundermat to wash. anyway his company, ended the worst ordeal with bugs I have eveer endured. Well done. Living in DC, it's hard to find a reliable, cost-effective service that can kill the bugs with the least hassle. True, I did have to toss out a mattress in a side bedroom. But after looking at the infestation on that thing, I did not give it a second thought. Rather be clean than bitten. I had my service done in the morning, and by that night I was back in my own bed. Of course, the tradeoff for the cheaper price is that there are aftercare instructions that must be followed. Nothing impossible, just bothersome. My suggestion: do a proper comparison before you choose a service. You'll probably find this one to be the healthiest and cost-effective measure up to a certain point. I got bed bugs after staying at a Marriott Hotel. They infested my bedroom trim and bed. I tried bed bug sprays and covering my mattress in "bed bug resistant" mattress cover, but they kept on coming back. I found A Healthy Home's phone number and David Hersh was very flexible about when he could come and came the next day. After the first treatment, I definitely noticed a difference. I stopped getting bitten by 90%. The second and third treatments eradicated the bed bugs completely and the whole process took under 3 weeks. I would definitely recommend him. A Healthy Home is one of those companies that has capitalized on the culture of fear surrounding bed bugs with no actual expertise. After the horrible discovery of bed bugs, and an original quote by a big name company of 2k, we went with "A Healthy Home" due to their online reviews and $1200 price tag (seems like a bargain in the bedbug world). Additionally, the website promises that there is "No Drastic Prep Required" as with other companies (such as packing all your belongings in boxes) and that they warranty their "Dual Action Non Hazardous Insecticides" because they work. Combined, this was a very appealing method. The owner was very assuring on the phone, and I was convinced we would be bed bug free within a month. The first problem was that the prep sheet we were given was not nearly detailed enough. We had to call with questions and David, the owner, instructed us to follow steps that were not actually on the prep sheet itself. Then the treatments started. The two ways "A Healthy Home" (AHH) treats your house are with cedar oil "bombing" and Diatomaceous Earth. Cedar Oil is supposed to kill on contact, but if it is not sprayed directly onto already hatched bugs, it is virtually useless. Does the exact same thing as bleach, and will not kill eggs. It was just a placebo to make you think something has happened. Diatomaceous Earth (DE) IS proven effective for bed bugs, but should be applied lightly surrounding all furniture, walls, etc. to create a barrier that must be passed. The idea is that the bugs have no choice but to get into this powder while crossing to and from your bed to their hiding space. AHH's application was sloppy and arbitrary, we had piles of it some places, and none in others. Additionally, the instructional sheet said to leave it down as long as possible. My house is all hardwood with no curtains (no carpet or drapes for bugs to hide in), and we never swept up the powder (leaving it there for AHH to dump more on top off), and yet still, we had bugs. The prep sheet promises "A Healthy Home" will come back every week (or twice a week) as they deem necessary to exterminate your home. The real problem started occurring when we needed to make use of this promise. We received pushback and a "what are you doing wrong" call from David. He said that normally his clients are free of bugs by the end of the month. This was very offensive; as we had called after each new bug found to make sure we were doing everything right and he assured us it just takes time. Additionally, once I found out I had the bugs, I took the proper precautions (heated the few belongings I would be taking with me) and got out of dodge and stayed with my parents. David found this out, and had to explain to me the process before coming back. Apparently, you are live bait. The bugs often live far away from the bed, and they need you there to entice them to come out. Then they feed on you before crossing through the powder (DE) and going back to their homes to lay more eggs. They will typically die within 24 hours of getting into the powder. Then you only have to wait out the hatching of all the remaining eggs for them to get in the DE and die as well, and then, only then, are you (theoretically) cured of this nightmare. This is a fairly important piece of information to leave out; as I had no idea my absence was hurting the process. The instructional sheet said to sleep on each surface/room in your home at least once (sofas, beds, etc.), which I did, before again retreating to my parents. Nevertheless, after I learned of the process, I returned home to sleep on my powdery mattress and get eaten by the bugs. Each week without a bedbug we'd think we were cured, and then we would randomly find one on a wall, on a shirt in the laundry, etc. David still didn't know why his DE/Cedar Oil combo wasn't working in our house, so he refused to come back until we paid extra for a dog to tell him where we still had bugs. He even refused to return our calls, and had his technicians (who were actually very pleasant people to deal with themselves) call us and tell us it's his stance that we need a dog and wouldn't return until we paid for one. It wasn't until my roommate (who happens to be a lawyer) wrote him a letter letting him know this was a breach of contract that he agreed to come back. We let him come back on more time and haven't heard from him since. After this debacle, we saw a review on yelp outlining the same experience, which is now mysteriously gone. Save your money, do your research and get a heat treatment (you can find them for a $1,800 for a smaller house; this is the only way to be sure and in the end, this will save you a ton of money). If you aren't ready to make that jump, use someone with actual pesticides, not cedar oil and DE which you can buy yourself for $10 for 5lb. Do not use A Healthy Home at any cost; this place is truly a scam. read more

My itching started almost ten months ago. I visited several doctors and finally did an allergy test that showed I was slightly allergic to dogs ??( I have been around dogs my entire life ). So, I thought that was it and I was ready to do the shots or whatever I needed for my skin to be clear again and ,of course, I didn't want to get rid of my dog. Then I discovered bedbugs in my bedroom, only two months ago. I went online and found Healthy Home website. David came to my home two days later after I called and started the treatment. I had a really bad infestation but he managed to get rid off those nasty bugs in less than one month. I chose this company because it was safe for my dog ( no pesticide ) and also inexpensive . It is a little messy because you have a powder all over your room but it is easy to clean it after the treatment is over. The cedar smell is still present but it is not too bad. The most important thing is that I am free of bedbugs! Just remember, you must sleep in your bed during all the time, they need to come out and die in the powder. I know it sounds freaky, but I did it as well as my dog did. We are both not itchy anymore. For our recent, traumatic bed bug problem at home, we selected a Healthy Home and were very pleased. Dave the owner gave terrific service and best of all, the technique he uses does not require the homeowners to pack everything away, or get rid of possessions. It takes a series of four or five weekly visits, but this was much easier than a whole-house packing job. We would highly recommend both A Healthy Home, and the less traumatic, and less toxic process used. It does involve sleeping in your beds while the bed bugs crawl around the floor and die (although we never saw one, only the initial bites), but after only one treatment,once the powder was applied to floor and bed frames, they disappeared quite rapidly. Thanks to Dave and Greg for helping get rid of these bugs (or at least helping stop the bites)! We tried using the DE ourselves and failed miserably. The key to getting rid of the bugs is consistency in treatment and that's what Healthy Home offers. Everything about the treatment and costs were explained upfront. They checked in weekly after the initial dusting and oil fogging treatment to see if we were still getting bit and made follow-up visits as necessary. The fogging smell isn't bad but the dust from the DE does make your skin very dry. The prices are very reasonable and you can't beat the warranty. This was the best option for us considering we have pets and a newborn. Hopefully we won't have to use them again but after learning from Dave how easily there transferred, we'll keep Healthy Homes number handy. read more

David and Greg are wonderful, I called around to several different companies and heard crazy quotes of up to 2000 dollars and how I would need to bag everything, move furniture etc. Then I called a healthy home, David was so patient with me, I think I may have had some PTSD going on. I started noticing bites about 2 months ago. My family had been traveling, had a family member move in to get established in the area, so they could have been from anywhere. We are not hoarders or dirty, bed bugs are travelers, so know that people are not necessarily dirty when they have bed bugs. I thought they were mosquitos until one night I saw something move on my decorative pillow, I picked it up and smashed it in my hand and it had an aweful odor, then I looked it up on line and saw it was a bed bug, then I looked around the room in the dark with a flash light and saw more. David or Greg will come in and focus on the area where they are living......we don't sleep on the sofa so there were none there, there where none in the extra bed room or on the bed. They were in our master bedroom with 2 small nests, they took about 3 hours the first day to exterminate, they focused on the bed. They like to live close to the food source, which in this case was me....they like a woman better, the fair is finer easier to get blood. Then they bomb, then they come back within 5-7 days and bomb again for 3 weeks total. I am now happy to say I am bite free, and it worked......there is powder all along the baseboards and under the furniture, but you need it so that they can walk thru the powder. We decided to leave ours down for another month before we have our carpets cleaned. We did empty all of our dressers, washed and bagged all the clothing, linen etc and left it in bags for 3 weeks just to be safe. This was an amazing job, in spite of all the ways I did to mess up the work, I didnt clean up well because my wife was pregnant and I was building a crib. We had moved into an infestation, and the landlord had a pest control company (Now thats a joke in itself, I dont want to control them, I want to kill them).Dont get me wrong, their were a bunch of dead critters around, but they also made me sign up for a monthly contract! Well, the bedbugs failed to read my contract , and if you can imagine what a pregnant womans belly looks like after a bunch of hungry bedbugs, well,it isnt very cute. I called A Healthy Home, they worked me in around some other appointments, and did my house for less then 6 months of "pest control",with a warranty, and when I got paranoid because I thought I saw another bug, re treated under the warranty!David was incredibly courteous, and even his house mate who is not even in the company took time to call back on the second paranoia call.
