The bottom line on A+ Dog Training: They help keep dogs together with their owners, and out of animal shelters. A+ Dog Training is excellent all around, from their one-on-one training to their group classes to their monthly public pack walks. They provide a huge benefit to our community---to all types of dog owners, their dogs, and to the public, in general (better trained dogs serve everyone). Tom and GiGi of A+ Dog Training are (not surprisingly) great with dogs of any age and temperament, but they are also great with owners any level of experience (and temperament!). Most dog owners and dogs can benefit from training; however, I suspect many who seek training find themselves in the predicament I was in a few years ago: In over my head, desperate, and close to throwing in the towel. I adopted a 10-month-old Husky-Malamute in September 2021. Luna's former owner had taken good care of her since adopting her as a pup, but a career/location change forced the owner to rehome Luna. Luna was extremely well-behaved in many ways, especially for a young dog with high energy (for example, excellent behavior inside the house; not once did she even knock anything down in the house, let alone try to destroy anything). She loved pretty much everyone she met (family, friends, and most strangers). Then came the big shock: This large and powerful pup quickly decided that she didn't like obeying me when we disagreed. Most of the time, we agreed. However, during leash walks when she wanted to go somewhere and I wouldn't let her, she started acting out---biting the leash, jumping on me, mouthing me, trying (successfully, sometimes) to escape her leash or harness, refusing to move, etc. I had never in my life met such a stubborn and strong-willed dog. On advice from friends/dog owners I know, I began looking for trainers, and in the meantime I was trying to get her a lot of exercise off-leash in addition to on-leash; I was taking her to the dog park 4 hours per week, walking her on-leash 10-15 hours per week (as difficult as it was at times), giving her puzzle toys, playing games with her at home, basically doing everything I thought I could do to expend her excess mental and physical energy. I spent a lot of time with her (my work schedule allowed me to not have to leave her alone for long blocks of time). I wasn't getting anywhere, and we were just getting worse on walks. Her bad behavior towards me on walks also began to occur more frequently at home, in the yard (not indoors). I was frustrated and confused---how could a dog that is so well-behaved and fun so much of the time, get so belligerent with me? I had been in contact with A+ Dog Training (Tom and GiGi) for a few months and we had planned to begin private training in January 2022. Our start date got pushed back to February due to uncontrollable factors. I reached out to them in January, letting them know how much I was struggling and that I had no clue how to proceed even in the short term. With the help of a family member, I was able to get some video of Luna acting out on a walk and I was able to pass it along to Tom and GiGi. That same day, both Tom and GiGi got back to me via text and phone conversation. The encouragement, analysis, and advice/tips they gave me that day likely saved Luna and me from much a worse outcome for both of us. I will be forever grateful to them for their help that day. By the time Luna and I started our first private training session with Tom a month later, we were already doing better on walks. By about training session 8 (of 10), Luna and I were leash walking all over my neighborhood (and other places we'd drive to), up to 1.5 hours at a time, without issue. After that, we did a few group training classes with A+ Dog Training. They were a lot of fun and helped improve command response, impulse control, and other aspects of behavior. In conclusion, I give A+ Dog Training my highest recommendation. Please do not give up on yourself or your dog before reaching out to them!

    A+ Dog Training

I highly recommend A+ Dog Training. Every program is specifically tailored to your dog(s) situation. I've had dogs my entire life and never needed a trainer - until I rescued this young bonded pair of brothers. When they started fighting, I wasn't sure they'd ever be able to be in the same room again. Thanks to Tom, they're back to being loving brothers- most of the time. And with the lifetime training program, I have peace of mind, that we can deal with any situation that arises in the future.

The owner, Lisa, even picked up a prescription for my dog while he was boarding and I was out of the country. With my dog Riley, they take extra care with getting him settled in and adjusted because he developed a bit of separation anxiety after the pandemic. They always have him looking his best after his every six weeks grooming. To make it easier for me (not having to call for an appointment) they've been booking him out every six weeks for the entire year. It is so easy for me to remember, and they do such a great job with him. I cannot say enough how much trust I have in Lisa and her team at Top Notch. If he needs to be boarded, I know he is safe, comfortable, and well cared for.

Top Notch was once a great kennel. But it has new ownership and it is absolutely horrible…read more About a year ago, it cost $40 to board my dog overnight. The new ownership has jacked up the price by 50%! It now costs $60 rather than $40! Included in that is $10/day just to feed your dog!!! Are you kidding me?!?!? If I board him there four days, I could have bought a bag of the Kirkland brand they use that would last him 6 weeks! When I brought my dog home, he ran straight to his water bowl and drank nearly the entire bowl. Apparently Top Notch no longer provides water to boarders!!! It probably costs another $10/day for that. What next? $10/day for the air he breathes? Last time they overcharged me for my stay. The clerk said she couldn't give me the breakdown of the charge until she ran my card. Then I could log onto their new website to see the breakdown. Sure enough, she overcharged me. Oddly, she didn't know how to credit my card, only charge it. I never did see the credit come through on my statement. They had charged me for the private play for the day I checked out, even though I was checking out first thing in the morning. It seemed clear that they were systematically overcharging people because the charge for private play was automatically generated as soon as the system registered a new day (i.e., at midnight). Most people never knew they were overcharged. I complained both times. However, both times I told them not to have the manager call. It simply wasn't worth it because I have far too much to do to argue with corporate. Nonetheless their corporate manager called and used corporate spin about their changes, and how they were only doing it for my good. Really? Wasting my time only added insult to injury. Top Notch used to know my dog, what he ate, what he likes, etc. Now they don't know anything about him. They used to provide a "report card" after each stay, telling me how he did. Now you have to log on to their website to see an impersonal computer screen of notes. Honestly, I don't want to log onto yet another website. A 50% increase in price for worse service, $10/day if you don't want your pet to starve, an obviously dehydrated pet when you get them back. And all that for 50% more + a $10 overcharge to boot. And if you'd like, you can also get a phone call with corporate spin. I've given Top Notch $1000s over the last 20 years. They won't get even a single $1 more from me. No thank you, Flop Botch.

The trainers genuinely care about helping both dogs and owners succeed. While some of the feedback can be tough to hear at first, its all with the goal of creating clarity and consistency for the dog---and it really works. We quickly realized that many behavior issues came from our own mixed signals or inconsistent commands. The trainers are knowledgeable, patient, and make sure corrections are fair and appropriate. The progress we've seen has been amazing, and our home is so much more balanced as a result. The classes have also been great for socialization, which we know is just as important as training. Our pup absolutely loves going---it's fun, structured, and rewarding. We'll definitely continue with future classes and highly recommend this program to anyone looking to build a strong bond with their dog.

As the only ones with smaller dogs, we felt she was unpleasant toward us. She spoke to us unkindly and repeatedly tried to push her collars and leashes, insisting that our martingale collars were cheap, even though they worked perfectly throughout the training. Another trainer was also unnecessarily aggressive, making us feel as if we didn't know what we were doing. This treatment occurred every week, leaving us feeling so singled out that we decided to skip the last class and never returned. The classes are also held in a parking lot, depending on the location, which wasn't ideal. After this experience, I found some free online classes that were more effective. I regret paying for the service we received and wouldn't recommend this place unless they take this feedback constructively. Hopefully, both the owner and some of the trainers can work on improving their people skills.
