I brought my 4-month-old mini schnauzer in for her grooming appointment yesterday. She was completely healthy, energetic, and just seen by our vet a week prior with a clean bill of health. Upon check-in, I spoke with the front desk groomer who explained they likely wouldn't do a full haircut due to her age, which I completely understood. However, shortly after they took her to the back, we heard her screaming and barking, which already felt like a red flag. We left the store but received a call within 30 minutes saying they could no longer complete the appointment because her abdomen had become extremely distended and hard. They claimed she drank too much water and expressed concern about possible worms or other health issues, which was frustrating since she had just been cleared by our vet, and there was zero indication of any health concerns when we dropped her off. She was fine. They told us we would need to get her re-evaluated and bring written proof from a vet before they would groom her again. We took her home and, shockingly, she began having seizures within hours. We rushed her to the vet, which resulted in a very expensive emergency bill. I can't say for certain that the seizure was caused by what happened at Petco, but it's hard to ignore the timing and the fact that she was left unattended long enough to drink excessive water, enough to dangerously bloat a small puppy. Whether it was negligence or a lack of proper supervision, it was extremely upsetting and could have ended far worse. We will never be returning to Petco Grooming and will not be bringing our other dogs either. If you have a young or sensitive pup, I strongly suggest going elsewhere where they're better equipped to handle the care and supervision young dogs need. read more

Do not bring your dogs for grooming here! An employee named Jess groomed my 8 month old maltipoo. I had an appointment and it still took almost 4 hours for him to be done. When I went to pick him up she said he was no longer allowed to get groomed by them again. Her reasoning was because he "bites" too much. He has previously gotten groomed here by other employees and they have always told me he was a good boy. It makes no sense as to why an 8 month old puppy who is teething would get banned from grooming services at Petco?! Very disappointed that they think a puppy is that harmful to be banned. read more

Extremely disappointed with my golden doodles "grooming" appointment at this place! My normal groomer was out of town, and my golden doodles needed a wash and groom..... they didn't "groom" her, they shaved her! She doesn't even look like a doodle anymore, and they make you pay and "tip" prior to even seeing your dog. I learned my lesson, I will never take my dog to this place again. Turlock branch canceled my dog grooming appointment because I was 7 minutes late, is this your policy? Mind you part of that 7 minutes was a couple minutes of them staring at me through the glass and talking back and forth seemingly deciding who was going to come out and talk to me... the body language was obvious they did not want to do their jobs, what's worst is that they all had dogs on their tables so it's not as if they were going to attend to Indiana as soon as we arrived they were going to kennel him until a table freed up. anyway just wanted to know your policy on this. I came here with my sister-in-law because she takes her puppy here for puppy training classes, I figured I was going to be waiting a while so I did some shopping. I was looking all around to see how it compares to my local Petco and it did not disappoint. I think it's smaller than what I'm used to but it had everything that your typical pet parent would need, it even had some cat treats that my Petco does not have so that was nice to be able to get those. It's well air-conditioned, well lit, the animals look well taken care of and healthy. The puppy training class looked fun and informative, and the trainer seemed very very sweet. It just so happened that it was graduation from that current level so I got to see the little graduation ceremony that they do, and it was so freaking cute! I made one initial purchase while I was waiting, and that cashier was super friendly. That was a definite plus here! It's always nice feeling like it's easy to chat with the cashier instead of conversation being difficult or awkward so I really appreciated how bubbly she was. Later when my sister-in-law was done with her puppy class we did a little bit more shopping and they got a different cashier and she was very helpful as well, She was very nice and very easy to talk. Overall I really like this location, and since my husband and I are looking into possibly moving in the near future it's nice to know that there's a good pet store that we can frequent and that I feel comfortable in already. read more

The manager needs to get a dam life! She asked me a million questions because I was trying to buy a leopard gecko. I answered all her questions reregarding what type of tank and lighting I had for the gecko. She kept asking me what kind it light bulbs I had.. everything that I have for the gecko I purchased at that location. I didn't take note of what kind of light bulbs were sold to me but I asked for light bulbs for a leopard gecko. She was being a major pain and I was there with 3 kids trying to get in n out n she did not let that happen. I had to leave because she was being very difficult. We have been coming here for quite sometime. We stopped in for our dog to get her nails clipped today. While watching this process I could tell that the girl was new and inexperienced. In fact one of the other girls went to help/show her how to hold our babies leg. At that point I tried to get the attention of the other two girls so that I could get more help for the girl and our baby. They looked at me and rudely looked away. I then went the front cashier and ask her to please get someone that I could talk to because my sweet baby appeared stressed. She was able to get someone to come out and talk to me. The first thing she said was "your dog will be right out" in a rude tone. I tried to explain that I could tell the girl who was clipping my dog's nails was new and nervous and someone should have helped her thru this process. She replied "I will note on your file that you want an experienced groomer on your visits. OF COURSE I WANT AN EXPERIENCED GROOMER What a thing for her to say. Very helpful and accommodating staff! I was on a scavenger hunt last weekend and I needed to catch a fish. I went to Petco and asked if I could buy a goldfish and explained that I needed to "catch" it myself and asked if I could scoop it out of the tank. I told them I would pay for the fish and then give it right back so they could put it back in the tank. The manager who helped me was very willing to let me do that and video it as well. They didn't charge me anything and set up a separate container with water so I could catch the fish and put it right back in the water in the other container. Literally made a yelp account to review this place! It was a okay experience, unfortunately it seems to be understaffed with the young man who somehow manages to keep up good work! Not sure what his name was, but he had really long hair and glasses. He made my day better just by providing a pleasant customer service experience. Horrible. Vet said kitten was perfectly healthy and had no worms but gave Pyrantel Pamoate (Deworming medication) to a 6oz kitten when not needed. Veterinarian gave 50mg/ml to a kitten. Kitten overdosed and died today. Unbelievable how they could possibly give that much to a kitten when only 0.05ml is supposed to given to a 0.5lb kitten (6oz is 0.38lb). I bought a Guinea pig a couple weeks ago and found a tumor like thing under his neck, I called the store and I was told that I had to bring him back and they would refund me and take him to the vet and if he was ok and healed they would call me and I could repurchase him. So I brought him back in got my refund. I looked at the Guinea pigs that they had for sale and I wanted to buy one so my sow could have a partner so she wouldn't be alone. The rude guy employee (Nino)came up to me and told me I couldn't buy her and wouldn't give me any reason why he just said no. He is the one the gave me the refund on my other and was very rude and no sympathy while I was crying because I had to give him up. Shocked by my experience, went in to browse and buy a few beta fish (2, and I know you can't combine them) but shocked when I asked for a glass fish bowl, they said they will not sell me fish if I don't have proof of proper filtration and heated system because I inquired about the glass bowl they refused to sell me the fish. I have no intentions to hurt her fish but shocked, I called and spoke to the general manager to confirm this and he shared that if I don't show proof of proper fish to water ratio along with filtered and heated water then they will not sell me the fish. This is all so shocking also because their beta selections are in plastic tubs, that don't appear to be the fish to water ratio they required and I didn't see any filtration system...... thank goodness for alternative pet stores in town! read more

I have nothing but great experiences every time I go to petco! I am always greeted, always offered help, and everyone is very friendly. I have been using petco grooming for almost 3 years now and it has never been anything but pleasant. Sam is my go-to. She is absolutely amazing and she is thorough with my dog, plus I see that she treats my fur baby the way I treat her and I feel comfortable and confident when I leave. There is great communication from the store reminding me about my appointments and when my dog is ready to be picked up I get a personal call. Recently my go-to groomer (Sam) was out when I wanted my dog groomed and I went with another groomer, Ray. He was very friendly, and very professional. I knew right away I could trust him with my dog just the way I trust Sam. He did a great job! I am so thankful to petco and their grooming team for taking care of my baby girl!! read more

I have a brand new kitten I went online. Petco had a coupon for a free exam for a first time pet so I took my kitten in there for an exam and they put me in a room and I waited about 30 minutes for someone to come in and nurse came and I don't remember her name took some information she was telling me the prices and I said well this was an exam for a free exam on a coupon you have online and she asked to see it and I was looking for it on my phone. She left the room said I could look for she would come back well about 10 minutes later no one had come in, so I decided to just take my kitten and go because I was not happy with waiting and being treated as if I was second class citizen or something so I walked out to the reception area. Not only are their employees rude and unprofessional, they are seemingly incompetent. Most of the employees there are actively rude to other customers and it's very off-putting. The managers are far from helpful and seem to think they know more than they do. Their curbside and in-store pickup is awful. They don't quality check the items they are choosing and they don't double check the orders to make sure they got anything close to the right thing. I would say I understand, but as someone that works where curbside and order pickups are done, their service is very poor and it is clear they do not care about their customers. Embarrassing service and rude and embarrassing employees. I would like to add that there is one girl that works as a cashier and she is wonderful. She's blonde, taller, and has glasses. Petco is charging double for frontline. I went to Walmart to buy frontline plus for cats 6- doses. They were out so I went to Petco nearby. I asked for frontline plus for cats seeing they only had 3-dose pack which we all know universal price is about half little over $30. I was in a hurry, paid with card, went home put frontline on my cat and after looked at receipt before throwing it away and saw I was charged $61.99 for three doses. I looked online and saw price for three doses was little over $30. I called Petco and person told me that online I can get it at that price but in store it's $61.99 for three doses. I called Petco corporate and they called confirmed this. Petco is only store i know charges you double at a store and half price online.
