Over two years of pandemic hair growth - my hair was LONG. I had gotten so annoyed at one point that I pulled out the kitchen scissors and cut it myself. YouTube tutorials saved my sanity. It looked good when I fixed it - four or 5 times a month but the rest of the time - it was up in a ponytail. I needed help. Enter the incredible talents of Carter Lund. I came in with a few inspiration photos that were a DRASTIC change. Carter checked in with me a couple times to be sure - then he pulled my hair back and chopped it right off. He added a few highlights and put me under the hood to process. As I sat and scrolled on my phone, I listened as he interacted with a new client. He truly listened to what she was saying, asked for clarification, explained to her why her hair looked thin as it grew out (her complaint) and the best way to cut her hair to fix that. She was getting color so he finished with her and it was my turn. His shampoo/head/neck massages could be offered as a stand alone service. I could have just melted into the chair. Back to the haircut...I think some people were born with an ability to know how to fix their hair. I am NOT that person - by any stretch of the imagination. Carter showed me the products he used and explained what he was doing. What good is a great haircut if you can't make it look like it's supposed to? Thanks to Carter - I can! I love my new haircut!! It looks like I actually put in effort (rather than just being in a ponytail) and it is SO easy to fix. I highly recommend both Carter and Charlie at this salon. They are incredibly talented stylist and worth the expense. read more

Excellent service! Felt looked after, felt beautiful after my hair cut/ color. Thank you Carter!

Carter is amazing, I get stopped all the time by people asking who cuts my hair and does my color. I love red in my hair and the coppers and other shades he blends in are always beautiful, the first time I went in Carter took the time to find out what I liked what I didn't like and showed me what worked with my skin tone and features. No one I had been to had done that before. Carter travels around the country teaching other professionals how to cut and color. He is always on top of the latest cuts and styles and he is always genuinely happy to see each and every guest that walks through his doors. You can't go wrong with this Salon. read more

Carter and his staff do a great job. Carter is a salon professional and I wholeheartedly recommend Carter to you. I am a guy, and my hair is not that difficult... But for some reason to other "stylists" in the city apparently it is a real challenge. Several female friends, that need their stylist to help change things and curl things, and do whatever they do to make their hair look so good, raved about his talent. Do yourself a favor and check them out read more

OK, I feel like a compete moron (no change). They do provide haircuts for MEN. I had my hair cut there yesterday and it started our with a warm towel on my face and a hand massage by a cute young lady. (Mrs.) Charlie cut my hair and she's so gentle that I almost fell asleep. She has a great sense of humor and can talk about anything. She also mentioned that they do WAXING (don't go there) and I had my eyebrows done too. I've been going to a cheap and fast place but I'd forgotten what it's like to be serviced by a real salon professional. LADIES, they do a great job on COLOR, MAKE-UP and can even schedule the mani-pedi for you too. read more

So I'm giving this place five stars because of my stylist, Tamara!! She is awesome, I've followed her all over north Austin for years. She is very accessible, prices are reasonable, and she cuts my husband's and son's hair too. My son loves the snacks, and she always has a little goodie for him when he's done. :) As for the salon, it used to be called Katz and many of the stylists have been there for years, some since it opened. Last year, Carter and his wife Charlie bought the place, and I think almost everyone has stayed. They have done a lot of updating so it lost some of it's homey feel, but the modern look works too. (my husband likes that it's not as "girly") Carter and Charlie are really nice and friendly, they even engage with my son when we bring him in. read more

Carter and Charlie have been doing my hair for about eight years! They are absolutely amazing! Their ability to work with color and cut to fit your face, no matter who you are is truly a gift! Carter's personality makes it an absolute joy to sit in his chair, there is never a doll moment! I could never imagine letting anybody else touch my hair! read more

Today is September 3, 2015....Wine in hand...sitting in the best salon in town (A Carter T Lund Salon)...about to be pampered and hide the proof that I'm not 20 years old anymore! Carter is going to work his magic and all will be right with my world again. Seriously! This man knows his hair chemistry and color. My crazy finicky hair obeys when Carter is in charge. I trust and value his opinion and expertise to the point that I pretty much walk in, sit down and let him decide what's going to happen. And I have yet to be disappointed. His staff is always courteous and professional and still I feel like one of the family here. Do yourself a favor and come see him or his wife Charlie who is equally amazing in he own right or book an appointment with any of the other very talented stylists. read more

Just moved here from Illinois and was dreading finding a new hairdresser. A new acquaintance with great hair referred Carter to me and boy did I hit pay dirt! My hair was dry and just a mess from not being cut or colored in awhile and I was desperate for help. I basically just told Carter do whatever you can and he went to work! Two hours later I walk out with a great cut and shiny soft hair!! And to top it off everyone was so nice and fun. I wish I had before and after pictures. I'm a very happy girl! If you have out of control hair from the humidity you need to get the Framesi Silis treatment. Its awesome and last until your hair grows out! read more

Absolutely amazing!!! My hair turned out orange from a hair coloring gone terribly wrong, and Charlie did magic to make it look amazong! My first visit to Carter was so fantastic. he made me "pop"!! People I had worked with for years were asking for his card. they were so amazed at his work on color and style! I am not a young hot thing but Carter knew i wasn't ready for the "matron"look either. He took years off me! I never have to worry that he will make me look crazy. He accentuates, listens to WHO you are . I look forward to each and every visit as I give him carte blanche. He changes me just enough for that something new . Love him. I remember finding Yelp almost 10 years ago when I was planning a trip to San Francisco. I have continued to use it, but have never taken the time to write a review. After my time with Carter and his wife, Charlie, I had to break my silence. First, my schedule is difficult but Carter accommodated me. I had the opportunity to meet his team before they left and see happy folks leaving the salon. Carter talked with me about what I wanted. I have had long hair for a while, and was thinking of a change after seeing Carter's Facebook page. He gave me great advice on length and why I shouldn't cut bangs due to my chin shape. He explained that skin tone and hair color matter. After the shampoo and cut, Charlie gave me some new tips on my makeup. They didn't leave the salon until almost 9:00. I left feeling amazing! People love the change. Sexy and sassy are a few of the comments. Most importantly, it's really easy to fix. How many times do you get a haircut and can't duplicate the look at home?? The color didn't wash down my shower drain for weeks like in the past. And ladies, does your hair grow out fast? You get a 3 week mini-treatment at NO COST so you look good (no ugly roots) until your next cut. I love it!! Go call Carter and Charlie. You'll be glad you did! read more

Carter and his wife, Charlie, and Desiree are amazing! The salon has so many extra touches to ensure a great experience! They even open early or late by appointment to ensure you look great for a special event or day. I have lived in Austin for almost 20 years and no other salon provides such great personalized service! Coffee! Nails! Products! Fashion! They even provide a free mini highlight or touch up to ensure you always look absolutely fabulous. I love it! So after years of bad highlights and haircuts, at some pretty pricey downtown austin salons, there is no one else I trust but Carter and Desiree to do a great job! Call them! It's soooooooo worth it! read more

Finally found the salon I've been looking for since I moved to Austin 12 years ago. I used to go to a salon in PA that only used Framesi. When I moved here I couldn't find a place until recently when I decided to do a Google search. Not only is my color gorgeous but the cut is the best I've ever had. Carter T. pays attention to detail and gives amazing service. If you get a six week color that will give you a root touch up in between for free! His wife, Charlie is just as amazing! I am picky and I am impressed! Go here - you will love it! read more

Lost my hairdresser of 5+ years. First went to a recommendation and walked out with a shag. Seriously, when I looked in the mirror I thought shag and not layers. I waited for it to grow out and made an appointment with Carter T. Lund. He called me to confirm my appointment and promised that I would walk out more beautiful than when I walked in. He was so right! He listened and when finished, not only did I have the hi- and low-lights I wanted, but he fixed the cut that had been given to me previously. Carter listens and then does his magic. I am soooo going back to him over and over and over............. read more

I found Carter T Lund salon by referral and I am so glad my friend had the good sense to tell me about them (Charlie and Carter). I had been driving all the way to Gruene Texas to get my hair cut, so needless to say, I must have some hard to manage hair. Charlie is one of the few hairstylist who is excited to give me advice on my hair and goes out of her way to find product and techniques that I can use to tame my curls-- I guess I should say, "embrace" my curls! Love the color, love the cuts and love, love, love the free three week root color. This is only the second review I have ever written so please take my word for it. :) Trish read more
