I was lucky because the bakery already had the design I wanted for my daughter's cake. The process to place my order was easy and they got back to me right away for payment. The cake flavor was strawberries and cream, and it was absolutely delicious! Not only was my daughter happy about the design, she enjoyed the flavor of her cake. I'll definitely go back when I need a delicious and beautiful cake.
Thank you for letting me pick up the birthday cake straight after working a night shift. Thankful you are located so close to Kapiʻolani Medical Center for Women and Children. I ordered the pre-designed fresh floral cake. The cake was well packaged and made it all the way to the North Shore in one piece. The birthday girl was ecstatic when she saw the cake. I had to go to work before celebrations started. I was told the yellow butter cake with layers of light whipped vanilla cream filling was delicious. It was the perfect size for a small gathering.
I ordered a test box with 6 different flavors and I loveeeeeed the yellow butter with strawberry and also 2nd yellow butter with vanilla. So I did not hesitate to order a full cake of yellow butter with strawberry. Well, they covered that cake in the thickest heavy stuff I wouldn't even call frosting. It was so gross that everyone was wondering why I even got that cake... and it cost almost $100!! Such a waste of money and time. The cake sure was pretty though.
Our cake was one of the easiest and yummiest choices we made for our wedding. I also loved that they offer cake pops! Who doesn't love a bite size cake that is easy to eat and doesn't make a mess! I loved the choices of flavors. Kristin was super easy to work with and everything we had was delicious!
I'm extremely happy I found Cake Life. Kristen responded to my email fast. Not only was she super nice ,but helpful and very professional. I wanted a baby shower cake for my daughter, but really had no idea what design I wanted . Then she asked if there was a theme for the shower? I showed her the invitation and told her the color scheme. From that Kristen 's creative vision came to Cake Life! It was "A Little Lumpia on the Way" neutral colors ! The cake was so cute and adorable! Also delicious!! Thank you Kristen for your creativeness, professionalism, and overall kindness! it was a very Happy Shower!!!
Summary. Delicious cake! Real ingredients. I will order from them again. Background. Tough to find a quality custom cake around Christmas time. So many better bakeries won't do it, as if no one is born or gets married in December. A Cake Life came through. Plain vanilla was preferred and the Classic White Cake fit the bill. There are a number of other flavors available. Ordering the smaller size (5-10), thought it would be a moderate sized layer cake. It was huge, so heavy, I weighed it, five and a half pounds! Many more servings than ten. Quality. The real buttercream icing was slathered on like buttering brick mortar, thick. Believe the cake had at least three pounds of butter. The cake layers tasted buttery, like homemade from scratch. Cost. Yes, it was pricey, but worth it. Looking through their photo gallery, there are other options, including sheet cakes, that may not be as massive and costly. One quibble, tried to convey that I wanted a holiday motif, red and green decoration. A simple Christmas tree piped across the top would have been fine. But couldn't get that across over the phone. Instead, they offered red, white and green floral decorations. Thought that meant flowers made of icing but turned out, they were real flowers and foliage. Not Christmassy at all, BUT classy. Location. Thought I knew where the bakery was. Stopped by there years ago, unsuccessfully seeking a ready made cake. They only make cakes to order. But this time, it didn't appear to be clearly marked. It's in the interior Makai-Ewa corner of the strip mall. Look for signs that say knock for deliveries. Think that's the kitchen door.
There's no way to say this enough, OUTSTANDING! Kristin's cakes were made with such divine freshness and love. It just melts in your mouth but made our hearts happy with their beauty! She hand-delivered these to my parents at our hotel for their 50th Anniversary celebration with our family of 17. We traveled from Alaska to Hawaii and ordering these cakes was so easy and just made their Golden Anniversary perfect. Mahalo and hugs Kristin!
At first glance, you might be in a bit of sticker shock when you see the prices on the menu. However, the attention to detail and communication from this business is totally worth it. I have dealt with many businesses who are unresponsive or curt with their responses to inquiries, but this one was very quick to text back, very professional, and the appearance of the cake was just beautiful! I got my husband a birthday cake and he was so touched. He helped me pick it out and he loves flowers. His favorite flavor of anything is strawberry, so the strawberry filling was perfect. The roses and gold flecks were so perfectly crafted and the letters were gum paste which he enjoyed eating as well. I also got a sugar cookie which was very pretty and tasted ok. The cake bento was fun and I got to try a bunch of flavors. Top 2 were the devil's food with peanut butter and the red velvet with cream cheese. Pickup was super fast and easy, just text them and they came right out! Great service, great experience.
A Cake Life and Kristin are incredible! Their ordering and delivery process is smooth and seamless, and their mini dessert offerings are so cute!! The team is responsive and professional, which makes everything so easy. She can do massive three tier cakes, a simple small one tier, or anything in between! Highly recommend :)

The cakes and the services at A Cake Life is truly the Bomb! Kristin was so accommodating to all our requests and she responded quickly! I found their shop online and never had any regret ordering cakes from them! The hot air balloon cake they made for my 1st daughter's birthday was heavenly! We ended up getting all their flavors for the cupcakes because it all tasted great! The second cake we just had this February 11 was for my son's 5th birthday.. He wanted a minecraft cake and at first we just thought of ordering a sheet cake with an edible pic,but Kristin suggested that we just bring minecraft items and they'll do the design..When we picked it up,the cake was a WOW! Everybody loved it! The devils food flavor blended well with the cake's design. My son was so happy and got to enjoy the minecraft items after! We were more than happy with our wedding cake by A cake life ! They had some beautiful designs to choose from but I was able to customize flavor color and decorations. It turned out so amazing all our guests were complimenting how amazing it looked ! Kristin was wonderful to work with too always prompt to email replies and was flexible in delivery... they were able to deliver the cake to the beach instead of the reception and we are so pleased with the extra effort they went through to make the bride happy read more

We just celebrated the Twins first Birthday with 2 cakes and a whole lot of cupcakes. We had an awesome experience with Kristen and her team. Kristen sat down with us and listened to all of our ideas and came up with cakes and cupcakes that exceeded what we even thought was possible. They were very easy to communicate with from the time we met until our actual event. They will definitely be our go to in the years to come. read more
Decided to treat myself to a custom birthday cake. Went to the website and filled out the order form. Kristin emailed me fairly quickly to go over some details -- flavor, cake topper options, floral pieces, and cake size. I looked at the gallery of cakes on their website and got the base of my idea from one of the photos. I ordered a semi naked style, lilikoi filled cake at the smallest size, which feeds roughly 6-10 people. I ordered a custom gold topper with succulent accents at the top of the cake. Kristin was very easy to work with. Once we got all of the details figured out, she sent me the invoice via email, and set up the pickup date. On the pickup day, I was just so ecstatic to see how the finished cake looked like. It was so beautiful and everything that I wanted for my birthday cake! At the birthday celebration, we all enjoyed the cake. The filling was so flavorful and the cake was so light and fluffy. I don't think I've ever enjoyed birthday cake so much! I am definitely going to make this a birthday tradition for myself and order cakes from here more often! After being on a crazy hunt for some bridal shower favors my final choice was A Cake Life. I had originally wanted to order my cake from them but the price was a bit too steep for my budget (actually that's an understatement), the favors on the other hand were sorta reasonable. What I loved especially was how easy it was to communicate with them. My emails were promptly responded to by the owner Kristin & my order was quickly confirmed. The after product itself was perfect (in appearance & taste). Sure they're more on the high end price, but they actually made things so much easier than going elsewhere. Their website has a menu list, prices, & even pictures of their products. All I had to do was show a picture of the cake I ordered from somewhere else which I wanted the favors to look similar to and they took care of all the details. Planning your wedding is not easy, especially when you get into the small details. When it came to our wedding cake, of course, I looked on Yelp to find the best reviews. I came across A Cake Life and loved all the pictures they posted! I decided to follow them on Instagram and see all their different designs they made. After filling out the initial consultation form online, I was able to schedule an in-person consultation and cake tasting with Kristin. You have to pre-pay for a pre-made bento assortment of cake flavors so you can try them out at the in-person meeting. None of the flavors disappointed! Me and my husband decided on the yellow buttercake with strawberry filling for our top tier and guava cake with strawberry filling for the middle tier. She was also able to make a faux bottom tier to make like we had a 3-tier cake! The designs came out amazing! It was so beautiful and really delicious. I really don't know why we have to save our top tier for a year because I'm so anxious to eat it! I think I'll defrost it soon for Valentine's Day so we can have some :) Kristin and her team were awesome. We always had a timely response from her, and she worked well with our wedding coordinator. Don't look further, this is definitely the bakery for you. As two astrophysics nerds, we asked A Cake Life to make us a galaxy wedding cake. They'd never created this particular type of design before and they NAILED it. Our beautiful buttercream cake was covered in watercolor streaks of blacks, blues and purples (mimicking the vastness of space) and was scattered with frosting constellations. It was spot on to my description of what we wanted. Of course, a pretty cake isn't enough. It's what's on the inside that counts. We got yellow cake filled with alternating layers of strawberry and lillikoi. Both were absolutely fabulous. The cake was moist, the fillings were light (in a good way) and extremely flavorful, and even the buttercream was fantastic (smooth, not too sweet, buttery, just perfect). Our guests raved about our cake. One couple had so many slices that they had purple/green poops for the next two days. That's clearly the sign of an amazing cake. read more

If I could give 10 stars I would! Our experience from start to finish with A Cake Life and the owner Kristin was beyond excellent. Kristin made a strawberry shortcake themed cake for my daughter's 3rd birthday. When we picked up the cake both my kids were with me and we were all in awe of how beautiful the cake was. It was exactly what we hoped for and more. My son was so excited to share how beautiful the cake was to the guests at his sister's party. Then we cut into the cake (strawberry shortcake flavor) and it was soooo delicious! Now I wish I hired a Cake Life for our wedding 8 years ago! Thank you for everything! My daughter was so happy! Found my go-to place for awesome cakes/cupcakes! I ordered a custom cake/cupcakes for my daughter's birthday and everything from the process of ordering to tasting it was just perfect. Kristin was so helpful and cooperative in making this idea of winter wonderland on a cake come to life. Communicating with her was such a breeze, which made the whole party planning much more easier for me. Now to the cake/cupcakes: absolutely beautiful. Had it made in lilikoi and it was so moist, wasn't too sweet, had the right amount of icing on top and it even had a little topper on it that tied in with the theme. I did set up a package that roughly costed $300 something for 80 cupcakes and to me that's reasonably priced. They also have the option of whether or not you want it delivered depending on where to drop it off. If you're ever considering this place for custom cakes/desserts and want to wow your guests, please do so! I've listened to the great reviews on here and I highly recommend as well. My husband and I purchased a 1st birthday cake/ cupcakes for my son's 1st birthday (2016). The consultation/taste testing day went well. The cakes were moist and delicious and I even gave them a invite to match the party theme. When we received the cake it looked like an intern or inexperienced designer designed our cake in comparison to the other cakes shown on YELP. I wanted a biplane on the cake but instead it was a cookie cutter punched out plane. In addition, the cupcakes and cake were extremely dry and it crumbled. Overall, they did not meet our expectations after spending $450+ on this cake/cupcakes. read more

I took a chance and essentially blindly ordered my birthday cake from here. I was visiting from the mainland so I've never tasted their cakes in advance and I didn't know anyone who could even recommend this shop to me. So glad I went with my instinct on this one... Kristin and team were phenomenal!! My husband and I used A Cake Life for our wedding and we could not be happier. Our order was constantly changing, but Kristin's patience and professionalism made the process seamless. We ended up ordering a total of 9 tiers and a few half sheets for our guests and everyone loved it! We live up in San Francisco area (with family in Hawaii) and yet we were still able to test flavors, coordinate, and manage our order with ease. The hardest part definitely had to be choosing a flavor (all of it was so good). Not only was the taste fantastic, but the design was beautiful and perfectly fit our theme/color palette. Can't wait to get my hands on their cakes again! We booked them for our wedding with the flavors strawberries n cream and lilikoi and it was AAAAAMAZING!!! Kristin and her team are awesome. Our schedules didn't work out to where we could have a sit down consultation so she was nice enough to pack some sample flavors for us so that my husband and I could taste test at home! Lilikoi is our all time favorite flavor! So good! I gave her creative control over my wedding cake and I absolutely loved the outcome! I'm never buying cakes from anywhere else! Contacted A Cake Life for favors for a bridal shower. With a week to plan, vendors were pretty limited especially with Covid going on. I reached out via email and got a response immediately from Kristin! She worked with me and my requests for custom designed sugar cookies. She assured me that they were able to make pretty much anything. On the day of pick up, I was very much pleased with the outcome of all three designs they did. They pretty much executed exactly what I had wanted! I also ordered a "Summer Cookie Kit" (DIY cookie decorating kit) for my 4yr old nephew to have some fun with. It comes with an assortment of sugar cookies, with sprinkles and icing to decorate. We all had a blast decorating our own cookies! I ordered from this place solely based on yelp/instagram. Most of the information of what kind of cakes and flavors they offer is online. I'm one of those people who needs to know what they're getting. I hate surprises. So you're able to order what kind of cake you want over the phone but I opted to pay for a consultation. The store front is not really amazing compared to their cakes but they only use the front area for consultations. You're instructed to come promptly to your appointment as they have back to back appointments. Kristin was really patient as we tasted all the cakes and they are so amazing. The taste of the cakes was what really sold me. Ultimately I got a marble cake with cookies and creme filling and all my guests were happy and they thought the cake was super cute! Also, please be prepared to pay for the quality you're getting. read more
While I was engaged to my fiancé, I learned a very important lesson: a happy wife means a happy life. Originally, we had an arrangement with our venue that they would cater a cake for us but as plans fell through two weeks prior to our wedding, we had to look elsewhere and to a place we trust since time was ticking. I've seen the work with Cake Life before and I've had people recommend them to us. I sent an email with a description of the type of cake we were looking for, how many people the cake was for, and the time sensitivity we had and within hours, Cake Life responded promptly with samples and a quote. We had to trust Cake Life's work and we also didn't have time to sample the cake flavors. Initially, I had quite the sticker shock. Their wedding cakes, especially four tier feeding about 200 people were high, but I also knew what my wife wanted. How foolish would it be to let her down on the most important day of her life? The transaction was quick and I handed all the information our day-of coordinator. Cake Life would take care of all the transportation of the cake. Skip to the day of the wedding, while I was making sure that everything was okay, I took a peek into the ballroom where our reception was held. I was breathless. The ballroom was beautifully decorated and here in the middle, was the cake. The cake was much more beautiful than I expected. I snapped a picture and thought I should not send my bride a picture of it and let her see it for herself for the first time. It was heartbreaking to cut this beautiful of a cake, but it was something we had to do. Imagine my surprise though when the cake was actually delicious. I am usually not "fond" of fondant but the fondant on this cake was delicious. Usually, the fondants I had in the past was hard and tasteless. Not this cake. The chocolate layer and the lilikoi layer was also delicious. I've seen beautiful cakes before, but this was definitely the most beautiful cake I've ever seen, and also the most delicious cake I've ever had. read more
They made a birthday cake for my daughter's birthday which dazzled the guests. I found the staff easy to work with. They were very prompt in responding to my initial inquiry about a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting and an ombré buttercream design on the exterior. We worked out the details by email. You can pick from a variety of flavors, but I am old fashioned. I like the traditional cake flavors and so does my daughter. You can pay for delivery of the cake but we opted to pick it up. A pro tip- don't carry it on your lap. Keep it on the floor beside your feet. It's more stable that way and make sure your a/c is on high. The store is located in Moiilili across from the old Stadium Park. I found it easier to access it from Beretania Street rather than King Street. There's parking outside the store. The guests adored the decoration. The cake was moist and sweet. The ladies were so nice and easy to work with that I would totally order from them again. By the way, the ballerina sticks on the cake aren't theirs. I got those from Amazon since my daughter likes that. read more

I must say, I was extremely disappointed with how the cake I ordered turned out. At first, everything was great, I reached out by submitting a "contact me" cake inquiry. (I did find it odd that even though they do specialty cakes, as well as wedding cakes, a required field was "fiance's name" - not really serious but odd.) Kristin the owner replied in a very timely manner. We went back and forth through email, it did take a few days, but I do live in California, and I am not a professional cake decorator. So I did have some questions. And the date that I needed the cake changed (two day difference) I chose this bakery because they not only had the most reviews but the best as well. I looked at about 10 different bakeries in the Honolulu, Ewa Beach, area and I was very excited to work with them. In filling out the contact me portion on the website, it asks for the cake flavor and filling. The size. Colors you would like. Brief description and so on. I was sure to fill out everything and even still I was asked through multiple emails, what flavor I wanted, as well as what colors I had in mind. Now I'm sure they are a very busy bakery, but you would think they would keep everything together per client/cake. I guess not, even still I was so excited to work with this bakery that I had no problem replying (multiple times) yet some how they still got it wrong. Maybe we had too many emails, I don't know. I asked for a strawberries and cream cake (their most popular recommendation.) With black, silver and HOT PINK colors. (I was told that for silver they would have to use fondant, something I am not personally a fan of so I was okay with making some changes.) I wanted a Raiders themed cake, with pink Hawaiian flowers (plumeria/frangipani, orchid) I specified it so many times, they probably got fed up and made what they wanted since the payment had already been processed. Never mind that they had asked multiple times themselves. When I was sent a quick sketch with the colors, I noticed it didn't say HOT PINK so I asked very politely just to be sure and I received a one word email "Yes!" - Um, rude. But I let it go, it was a holiday weekend, lots of destination weddings blah blah blah. We set a time to pick up the cake, late morning, 10am. I tried contacting them the day before, to confirm a time and I never received a response, although I do think that was something on my end. (My phone was acting all crazy) When I called the morning of, even though in email we discussed the morning, I was informed that it wouldn't be ready for pick up until noon! It was extremely frustrating because we had plenty of other things to do that day (Goddaughters 1st bday party) and the bakery was about a 45 minute drive from my friend's house. A Cake Life couldn't deliver because they were already booked for deliveries, which wasn't a problem until they changed the pick up time. What I got... A gray cake, pale baby pink drip (gross) an off centered logo and brown edged baby pink roses. Not at all what I asked for. The flowers weren't even fresh. Now, I didn't have time to complain in person when we picked up the cake because mom and baby were waiting in the car, it was already late and we still had other things to do that day. I didn't want to get all worked up over something that I knew couldn't be fixed in time. The owner, Kristin, who I had all communications with (I think anyway, it was mostly through email) wasn't even there, so I said thank you and took the cake. It was already paid for after all. After the cake design was wrong I was afraid the cake itself would be too! (it wasn't) The only reason I gave this place two stars is because the cake tasted great! Everything else however was a let down. Maybe after seeing all of their specialty cakes on their website, my expectations were too high, who knows. If you don't live in the area and can't stop in for a consultation, in person, set your bar low. Or choose one of their pre-designed cakes. read more

Kristin did such an awesome job for my sons 1st birthday party. We had circus theme and decided on the midi dessert package. We ended up getting the Oreo cake shooters, strawberry cake shooters, orange dreamsicle cupcakes and I heart chocolate cupcakes. Everyone was in awe of the cake topper and couldn't believe it was an actual cake. I just showed her a pic of an idea for the cake and of course we tweaked it a little and left it all in her hands. I had a theme for both of my girls in mind, sent in some ideas and Kristin and her team delivered. The best part of any birthday party is the cake. I'm sad that my cake didn't taste as a $200 cake would of. But then I thought maybe all of that $$ went into the design of the cake. My first impression was how wonderful and it really was nice of them to give us the left over chocolate covered strawberries that they didn't use for my birthday cake..... When I opened the covering to my cake I was in aww of the size and that it had a crown. But then I started to pay attention to everything else and felt a little short changed. No doubt it was a beautiful cake, but parts of the cake was pulling apart from the center of the cake. This is something you'd expect a couple of days after keeping the cake refrigerated. But this was just after it was picked up. Still I'm very happy that the better half went the half mile to do something so nice for me. We sliced the cake and wanted to enjoy the cake and strawberries beyond the fondue and sugar walls but was disappointed that it was just eh' okay. I've had really really amazing cakes before so I truly felt that the cake could have been more moist and not so dry. My heart felt as if I was going through a break up since I've been seeing so many amazing looking cakes of this place on social media that my cake didn't matter and this was a one night stand. So I kept the cake in the fridge and as the days went on felt that it was time. Time to admit that I didn't want to eat another slice and time to accept that I need to move on. **sad** Will or would I try this place again? Sadly no.....
