On a miserable Sunday afternoon with the temperature outside stuck at two degrees above zero, slick roads and dusting snow, a basement sewer drain in our furnace room clogged and was soaking a large area of carpeted floor. Mykel arrived within two hours, and had our drain flowing within ten minutes. He explained what he thought the problem was and quickly unstopped the drain with a plunger. (I had already tried that, too, but I had no success.) He also suggested some preventative maintenance that would help prevent the issue from recurring. Get a second opinion. I had them come out to address a slowed drain in the my kitchen, which they did a fantastic job of. They suggested following up with me a few days later with a camera down the drain to ensure there weren't any additional issues. A different technician came a few days later to perform the camera work and informed me that I had a leak in my drain under the foundation of the house. He was convincing, and showed me the footage as well (although I had no idea what I was looking at). They quoted me 7K to excavate the foundation, repair the broken drain pipe, and jet the drain line. I then called two other companies and informed them what I had heard, both of which gave me far better pricing. One of the other companies performed the work, but after diggin up the foundation, they discovered there was no leak at all. A better plumber had made a mistake in their analysis which cost me thousands of dollars. Buyer beware, if this company claims you have an issue, don't take their word for it. Have another company do the same analysis (instead of trusting them and hvaing the work done, which is what I did). read more

2023 started with a bang, well, in my case--a BUST. Unfortunately, like many other Colorado residents, the inclement weather in December of 2022 caused the copper pipes in my family home to freeze. Frantically searching for a plumber on New Year's Day, A Better Plumber was the only company with next-day availability. William A. was my technician on 1/2/2023 and went above and beyond to resolve the issue. At first, we thought a faulty valve was the root of the problem; however, after William checked around the house and searched for leaks, we realized the problem was more extensive than we could imagine. He found and repaired over a dozen busted copper pipes over nine hours. He did this job on his own, without hesitation or complaining. If it wasn't for William, I don't know what we would have done; thank you so much for acting swiftly and being so knowledgeable in your field. Finally, we had additional issues that needed to be resolved the next day: minor and Rick S. save the day. He was always very knowledgeable and friendly. I want to begin by stating that I am generally loathe to write anyone a bad review. In fact I enjoy pointing out excellent service and value whenever I encounter it. I also consider myself reasonably knowledgeable, fair and not given to uninformed rants. Having said that, I can only say that if it were possible to give zero stars to 'A Better Plumber' I would, for the following reason. My son and daughter in law called this company yesterday when their incoming water line froze and broke. Living in Los Angeles, all I could do was speak by phone with the plumber who came to do the work. Being a construction professional, I asked what was involved in making the repair and was told the following: cut out and replace 3 to 4 feet of 1/2" copper water line and use two pro-press fittings to splice in the new copper. When I asked about time for the repair he estimated one to one and 1/2 hours. Factoring in the travel time to and from, the emergency nature of the call and the $20 or so in parts, I was prepared for a bill for as much as $500. This would have equated to an hourly rate of $150 per hour ( tip top rate for plumbers) for the 1-2 hours on site and an hour travel time and $50 for the $20 retail value of the materials; a high cost but acceptable given the emergency nature of the repair. Instead he told me $1800! Interestingly, before he investigated the extent of damage he mentioned this amount to my daughter in law. So it appears that they have pre set their " We've got you over a barrel so we'll charge what ever we want, regardless of the work needed, rate". When I broke down the reasonable estimate of costs to him he said they didn't work on a Time and Materials basis and instead just charged a 'flat rate' ( which just so happened to match his 'no look' estimate). After a few minutes of logically pointing out to him how this charge was unreasonable it became obvious that this was a take it or leave situation. IOW, take their price or leave my family, with their small toddler, without water until another plumber could be located. I told him to go ahead and complete 'the last job that I or anyone I could influence would ever use this company for'. After the work was complete my daughter in law informed me that he had reduced the price to "only" $1269; so three times the reasonable cost for the work instead of 4 times. Thanks alot. Conclusion: If I can create any value by dissuading others from being taken advantage of by this company's unscrupulous business practices I'll take some comfort in my own misfortune. read more

Buyer Beware To their credit they do have great customer service. That's about it. They were recently acquired by Absolute Electrical go read their reviews before hiring them). I had them out to repair a few sink drains whose pop up functionality failed. They wanted $800 to replace 2 drains pop ups. They would not give me the part number they were proposing to use so I could look up the price. Turns out the parts were $37 total. So they wanted $763 in labor costs for a job that took a different plumber 45 minutes to fix for $200. I even texted to clarify and this was definitely the case. I thought I was missing something because the price was so outrageous. When I asked if labor was $763 for the job and how that was possible Deshaun said they have said pricing for a specific jobs and there's no way to do time and material. I called and left a message for a supervisor, and he never bother calling me back which tells me everything I need to know. I won't be using them again for work and I won't be renewing my agreement with them for maintenance, etc. So disappointing. read more

I'm completely satisfied with my interactions with the call center receptionists as well. I needed a licensed plumber for a bathroom remodel per the permitting process in Douglas County. My contractors, Cabin Creek Custom Remodeling, LLC, engaged with A Better Plumber to bid and subcontract the work, since they had worked with them on a bathtub install last year. Our scope of work entailed installing a new bathtub, slightly relocating the drain to line up with the new tub (this was the scope of work done with them last year for $400), and installing a valve for the shower head, handheld sprayer and tub spout. aid this could all be done in one day - which is what we expected. However, the quote was over $6000! The valve installation alone was over $1200, and the balance of the work was over $4000. No parts required, just labor - so nearly $1000 an hour. They also told us that they would have to pull their own permit, which is absolutely not true. We are already permitted for the plumbing changes and would have just had to put their name on the existing permit. Tom from Cabin Creek called and spoke with Mike later that day at A Better Plumber to ask about the huge price difference and ended up being hung up on. Not very professional. Steer clear - they may be ok for minor repair work which many reviews are for, but personally I feel that $1000/hour is criminal. read more

They installed a hot water heater 1.5 years ago. It stopped working. It ended up needing to be replaced due to a manufacturing defect.They were fast, responsive and overall seemed to do a great job. It was still under warranty too and they charged us nothing. The trouble began after the install was done when the tech claimed he tested our water pressure and told us it was way too high and could cause problems. He quoted us $1100 to fix it. We got a second opinion. We also measured the pressure ourselves. It was not out of normal range and even if was too high, it does not cost $1100 to repair. After he left to go get the disposal, I called his office to question the high quote. They assured me the serviceman would call me back and explain the pricing. If you want to get price gouged, this is the place to go. I had to pay a service call fee to have a technician come to our house and quote us for installing a reverse osmosis system we had amnd to fix a leaky toilet. After paying the fee, the technician came to our house was not interested in helping us with the issues we had paid the fee for. He quoted us an astronomical price for the RO system ($2000 for the install) and $400 to replace the ball in the toilet tank. HOWEVER...if we wanted to buy one of his whole house RO systems, he would replace the ball in the toilet, and three stop valves under our sink for free. The whole "service" call was not about service. His goal was to upsell us on their RO system! After he left, I replaced the valves (which he wanted to charge $750 for), for $30 in parts and 45 min of my time. I also was able to install the RO system in about 2 hrs. The price they wanted to charge for the amount of work was ludicrous. If the technicians sole focus was on upselling us to one of their systems, I don't want to be paying a $49 service fee for them to try and sell me. Very disappointed, and certainly won't be recommending them to anyone! read more

Had hired A Better Plumber a few times for various odds & ends, found them to be a bit pricy but the work was fine and the plumbers always nice and professional. This last visit, the resource wanted to check the water pressure value otherwise he wouldn't be able to guarantee ANY of their work. Note: at the time there were no symptoms, nothing to make him think there was an issue. It was just a preventative check since he was on site. While I appreciated the pressure being tested, what I didn't appreciate was the most inflated quote ever: $1500.00 to replace the water pressure valve. After posting on Nextdoor, speaking to my neighbors, having multiple other (well known) plumbers stop by to do the exact same test and provide a quote they were 3x higher than the highest quote received. This entire process left me annoyed and feeling like they were unethical and clearly willing to take advantage of their customer base. I also shared with the other plumbers some of the other work they did and how much they charged and what A Better Plumber charged 350.00 for would have been about a 75.00 job with the other REPUTABLE plumbers. All highly rated, all highly recommended, all well known names. Stay Away unless you like being completely swindled and taken advantage of. Very disappointed from an unfortunate repeat customer. Muris and Connor spot repaired the kitchen drainline in basement, removed the old cast iron pipe and replace it with abs/ plastic pipe. They replaced the floor drain and lavatory drain line as well. Have to write a review after my experience today. I requested a quote for a toilet repair project earlier in the week. They came in reasonably priced and the communication with Jeff, the owner, was great. We were able to fix the original issue on our own but ran into a problem when installing our new sink. I contacted Jeff again to see if they had anyone available and o come out the next day. They had appointments available and again the communication with his was great. I even got text messages to confirm my appointment time, who my technician would be and when he was on his way to the house! Shawn came out to complete the repairs today and he was awesome!
