I can't recommend Controlling Systems highly enough. We hired them to install a mini split heat pump (AC & Heat) system in our 1908 house. This was a pretty big installation with 4 mini splits on the main level and a multi-vented blower system on the upper level. We talked to 4 different groups and got bids before going with Controlling Systems. They were really well priced, but it was their understanding of the technology and what the job was going to entail that put them heads above everyone else. This was a somewhat complicated job with the age of the house. They did an amazing job from evaluation to quoting to installing and follow-up. I cannot recommend Controlling Systems, unfortunately. I got a new furnace and AC unit installed in April 2021, and it wasn't a smooth process; the inspections failed at least twice, and after a month the exterior seal completely melted off. I altered them to a weird sound I started to hear, and they brushed it off. I finally got a different company to come take a look and we found not one but TWO pieces of metal scrap inside of the fan! A small one I could maybe understand, but not the bigger one which measures 3x8 inches! I will not be using them for any future projects. They also mistakingly sent me another customer's invoice which detailed: "Condensation line to unit was not hooked up properly this is why the unit was leaking into the attic there is no visible damage done to the drywall with a little water did come out should dry up by the end of the day." read more

I had an AC installed Mid-May, 2022. I have requested the a detailed invoice and the orginal estimate multipal times. I have never recieved it. I was told I never have to do put filters in because they would be out to change the filters every 4 months. I will never have to do repairs. I started reading my docuuments I can't find that anywhere. I was told I would get an Xcel energy rebate after inspections were done. I called the county I cannot get an inspection because ARS NEVER filed the electrical permit. I have call ARS Aurora multipal times left messages because they do not answer there phones. There is an main ARS call center but it is not the local office. They have sent emails, messages and left voice messages over several months. It is now 09/18/2022, I have yet to get my Xcel because I can't get one without the permit they never filed. I didn't know that the Nest thermistat came with the AC install when I said something the service person he went to his truck came back and said oh you didin't pay for it. I found the invoice that are lump sum amounts, but the nest was listed. Yes, I paid for it. So they had to have these people come back to install it. I moved everything away from the old AC to install the new AC. I asked if they needed me to move anything farther away. I was told no. I had about 10, planter pots, some made by a family member who passed a way 15 years ago that are not replacable, and some ceramic pots from Home Depot that cost me $30 to $40, knocked off another storage containter and broke. I have gotten ahold of Abla or Alva the office manager several times. assured everything would be taken care of. I have left several messages since with no return call. I spoke with Lauren almost 2 months, who does the permits, sets up the inspections and fills out the Xcel rebate paper work, said it would be taken care of. I left a direct message for her two weeks ago no return phone call. I have been more than patient. My next call is to Home Depot to let them know how their customer has been treated through one of their contractors and on to the BBB. I should not have to have gone through all of this for a an AC to be installed. ARS is a shitty company. read more

Another great experience with Controlling Systems as they replaced both a furnace and AC that were older and beginning to have problems. Great attention to detail as they covered my carpets and even put plastic over the storm door to keep from scratching my solar film. The furnace is in an attic so they were working in a cramped and hot environment for most of the day without complaint. I could not get into the attic to view the work so Gemini took pictures and explained each part of what they had done and why. They tested everything after the work was finished and explained the new thermostat to a techno-challenged senior. Each of the four men who worked here was polite, friendly, and professional. I would recommend Controlling Systems. I received several bids and theirs was the most competitive, so from a value perspective they were great. The install was a bit challenged and took a long time. The head tech Roman, worked a 12+ hour day into the night to try to make sure everything was finished, all while maintaining a friendly customer service positive attitude. The other techs were also great, no complaints. After their work was done we noticed our hot water heater was leaking. I called and got a less than helpful reaction from the receptionist, but then someone called me back (James I believe) and said they'd send someone right over. A supervisor came over and installed two new connections, free of charge. That is the sort of service you hope for when you're spending massive amounts of money on a new HVAC and it was much appreciated! As a side note, we also had them install an automatic (measures outside temperature and adjusta automatically) bypass humidifier. The cost was a drop in the bucket and it's done an excellent job maintaining higher humidity this winter. I recommend adding one of these! read more

We had a previous HVAC company come out and diagnosed our AC unit as having a refrigerant leak and quoted us $2100 to repair the line. This was assuming the leak was in the line, and that it was repairable. They drew up 3 quotes for a new system which I thought was odd. I called Controlling Systems as a second opinion, and Aireus came out. Within 10 minutes, he was not only able to find the leak (on one of the valves at the AC unit out back -- apparently a common leak spot that the other company missed), but he was also able to make a same-day repair. I'm 100% glad I called Controlling Systems for that second opinion. They definitely gained a customer for any future repairs. When I need a new system I also know who I'm calling. read more

On Friday, 12/23, at about 2pm, I heard a swish and knew I had a problem. I went outside and saw a three foot stream of water shooting out from my backyard faucet. The sun had shown on the faucet and the frozen area melted and broke. I shut off the water to the house and started calling plumbers. With Christmas only two days off, I knew I was in trouble. The first two plumbers said they could fix the problem on Wednesday, 12/28; I left a message for the third plumber. With family to visit us on Christmas eve, if I had no water in the house, I would have to call the visit off. Controlling Systems had done an excellent job installing a new furnace and AC for me 8 years earlier. I knew they didn't really do plumbing, but called them to see if they could recommend a company. Bill (President of Controlling Systems) answered the phone. He had sent most of his staff home for Christmas, but said he would contact the remaining techs that were working and get back to me. To make a long story short, Gus, a senior technician, arrived around 4pm and had the water line plugged and the house water back on by 4:30pm. Now, that's what I call customer service!! I contacted Controlling Systems to replace our old gas powered water heater with a new heat pump water heater. From the day I called to the day it was installed was exactly one week, and they managed to fit me in just before the deadline for the Denver Climate Action rebate. After the initial installation, we realized that the mixing valve wasn't working correctly, and they came back the next day to fix it right away. Even though I talked to multiple different people through the process, it felt like everyone was on the same page, and there was no miscommunication. We had Controlling Systems come out to inspect our furnace before the winter season. To preface-- we are first-time homeowners who did some research online before hiring someone, but we are by no means experts. We chose this company because of the mostly-positive Yelp reviews. Sean came out, took apart the majority of our furnace, came up and told us the heat exchanger was missing a cap and the entire furnace needed to be replaced immediately. He also said he needed to leave the furnace disassembled, because that's what another company would prefer when they came out for a second opinion, plus he said putting it back together may risk a carbon monoxide leak. He did give us the option to reassemble it, but he pushed for leaving it disassembled. Since we felt like we should trust the experts, we took his advice. That absolutely was a mistake on our part. We did decide to have another company come out for a second opinion, to examine all our options. When the tech showed up, he asked me "what the hell happened down here?" when he looked at our furnace. I told him what happened, and he said a tech should never leave the furnace disassembled. He put our furnace back together and began his inspection. He turned our furnace on for a while to also check for any carbon monoxide leaks and tested how the furnace was running as well. This is not something Sean did. The second-opinion-tech from the second company said that other than a couple of very minor (and not time-sensitive) issues, our furnace is in fine working condition and will get us through this winter with no issues. Bottom line, we will never, ever work with Controlling Systems again. read more

Feeling cool air come out of the vents in our house is totally worth the five stars alone, but we really can't thank Controlling Systems enough for their hard work getting our new furnace and A/C system in last month. When we first moved in and turned on our A/C (mind you, this was two years ago now), we noticed water leaking through our system. We called in Controlling Systems to hopefully tell us what was going on and what our best next steps were. Sean came over and took a look explained exactly what was happening. He gave us a quote at that time and told us about the whole process. Since the system was still running, we weren't quite ready to pull the trigger on a whole new furnace and A/C just yet. He understood and stayed in touch a few times over the next two years checking in to see if we were still good, if we wanted to take advantage of a deal, etc. We never took him up on any of those, but he was always pleasant and helpful whenever we spoke with him. Fast forward to this June and poof...Mother Nature takes its course and our furnace is legitimately fried. We called Sean and he came out again to take a look. We had a gut feeling it was time to replace, but still wanted to check it out. Our system was shot, so we got an updated quote from him within minutes and had our appointment scheduled for a little over a week later. The installers arrived when they were scheduled, politely introduced themselves and talked through the whole install process with us. An installation manager was there in the beginning as well to answer any questions we had, which was nice. It was a VERY hot day, but these gentlemen worked hard throughout the day. Our system was installed in one day, lineset and everything. They turned it on before they left and I couldn't believe it was actually running...it was SO quiet. We are so happy with our new system, the friendly associates, available financing and sparkly clean install. We look forward to having Controlling Systems out for maintenance every fall and spring. read more
