I've used Controlling Systems over five years and two houses. Let's start with reliability, something always appreciated. CS techs arrive when they are scheduled. They do great work and are nice to work with. Most recently, Izzy came to service my central AC. He found a ridiculously high buildup on the condenser coil. (Previous owners probably had no service on it for years.) It was an extra cost to clean, but that meant the unit won't shut off now at 80 degrees. More than worth the cost. Finally! In 2015 I had a company install a Wifi thermostat which kept rebooting during the heat cycle. Another company told me that it was the thermostat which I purchased another one at $250.00. Which didn't fix anything. Sean from Controlling systems and he after he adjusted the gas pressure and cleaned the furnace it had not rebooted once! We landed on Controlling Systems after reaching out to a few highly reviewed central air service providers on Yelp. Controlling Systems was definitely the most professional and responsive. Brent called about 15 minutes before he arrived (exactly at the beginning of the window of time we had previously arranged). Brent efficiently diagnosed a number of potential issues and walked me through each step of the necessary repairs and the risks/benefits associated with a few different options. He answered all of my questions thoughtfully and we decided on the right course of action. I felt like he was very collaborative in helping me find the path I was most comfortable with. There wasn't any pressure to pick the more or less expensive options. The repairs went smoothly, but we soon had a problem with one of the new parts. I just had my evap cooler repaired by Controlling Systems. Not the least expensive, but fast and very competent. During the heat of July 2021, they were out VERY quickly. Their tech, Bailey, was very friendly and gracious. Diagnosed the problem a found a part locally (brand specific motor) picked it up and returned to finish the install that day. Next gay there was a manufacture's defect, but he returned within hours and fixed it. I you are looking for a textbook case of how to run a business, this is it. I had Controlling Systems out last September to install two new furnaces and two Air conditioning units. Let me start by saying that the estimate was more than reasonable and there really was no hard sell. I had another estimate done by another company (nope not naming them) and all that salesperson did was talk bad about my Controlling Systems estimate-even though the second estimate was more. I just don't like people trying to pressure me into buying something by bad-mouthing their competitors. this second company even called me back and offered to lower their price to what Controlling Systems quoted. The hard sell method doesn't work for me. Controlling Systems came out and removed my old furnaces and did a fantastic job on the installation. It wasn't easy as there was a lot of work getting the electricity up to code for the AC. They also found a furnace flue that had been broken that could have been very dangerous for me-they fixed that as well. Now for today, they came out and did some troubleshooting on the AC units. The gentleman that came out was part of the original crew and he got everything working correctly and now everything is perfect. I would highly recommend Controlling Systems for a new install or a repair. read more

Put in a request via email and received a call within the hour. Super nice dispatch employee that walked me through the process and sent a guy out the next day. Plumber arrived to quote a new HVAC and as soon as he saw the unit he blurted out a quote without looking at anything in detail or asking questions. I felt as if there truly was no price discrepancy based on my situation and that they just use one price for everyone regardless of severity. He also didn't walk me through any options of the unit or ask what I even wanted. If I'm going to spend a couple thousand dollars on a new unit I at least want to feel comfortable that I'm getting a good unit with a good price. Always a great experience with this company! We've used them for our service calls for the past year. It was time to replace the old swamp cooler in our home and they came out to review all options and pricing with us. When we decided to replace our system we got competitive pricing and an install window of two weeks. They always notify when they are on their way and have never once been late. Controlling Systems was reliable, friendly and respectful. My heat stopped working on a Wednesday evening, I called on Thursday morning and explained what was going on. After being put on a brief hold the guy on the phone informed me they could get out to my home between 12-2 THAT DAY. They sent a text when they were on their way and when the technician got there he was professional, knowledgeable and put booties over his shoes to not get my floors dirty. After a quick look and some tinkering with my furnace he was able to pinpoint the problem. He had the part in his truck so he was able to make the repair at that time. He explained to me the issue and the mechanics of how the system worked without treating me like I was dumb. He also installed a smart thermostat for me that I had been meaning to get around to installing myself. Thank you to Gus and Adam at Controlling Systems for fixing my boiler! We had no heat or hot water for nearly three days in the middle of winter, and the first three repair teams that came out could not figure out how to fix the electrical problem to get the system running again. Well, i needed to get an evap cooler installed in my house and wanted to see my options and get a professional opinion. As with any repair work I had no idea who to call as you never know what you're going to get from a lot of these businesses and contractors. I ended up looking on BBB for companies and ended up getting three estimates. Controlling systems came out to the house whereas the other businesses gave a quick quote over the phone. I worked with Brent Horgan and talked through various options and pricing and return for my money. When it came time for installation there was a small snafu. The installers were a little uncomfortable installing what i had been sold. Now, this definitely gave me pause and I had to step back and think about what I'd been told. I hadn't put any money down so there was no loss at this point. so, after talking with the installers and the senior installer/sales guy we decided to move forward with the plan. Install day came again and this time they were definitely more prepared. three guys finished a pretty hefty installation in about 4-5 hours, which included building a shelf for the unit running the duct work, plumbing and electrical then finally installing the unit. Unit is running great and even had a nice follow up visit two days after install. Since the onsite quote was free and no money down before install i had no problems with the install guys taking a step back to make sure they were comfortable with the job. I would definitely recommend these guys for any HVAC work. I think 4 1/2 stars would be appropriate because of the small snafu, but I'm rounding up :) read more

When we got home from work one afternoon, it was 64 degrees in the house, and we noticed the furnace was blowing cold air. We called Contorolling Systems after finding them on Yelp at 4:30. Greg arrived about an hour later, and had the problem fixed within 30 minutes (he had the part right in the truck). The part that ignites had just worn out. We really appreciated the all-inclusive pricing (rather than parts and labor seperately) and the fact that he taught my husband how to do some basic cleaning to prevent additional problems down the road. I called these guys a couple weeks ago based solely on the good reviews here. Mistake! I was looking to replace a furnace and install a new ac. I already was having two others come out for an estimate, and waited an extra 6 days for these guys as it was the earliest they could come out. The other two companies came first and gave me and estimate of about 9500 bucks. No small chunk of change but they at least gave a nice presentation and spent about an hour each evaluating and taking specs for my new system. They both made it known to me that they wanted my business and would do a great job. Still wanted one more bid and was looking forward to seeing what controlling systems could do. Gus came to the house and was a nice enough guy. He went straight to the crawl space to see what I had. Came out about 5 minutes later and asked me about 3 questions, and that was it. Said he would email an estimate for a new system. I asked a couple questions, but he had taken a call while at my house and I got the feeling he was trying to get out there to go to another appt or something. 4 days later, I am still waiting for an estimate. I called and spoke to someone, who apologized profusely and vowed to find out what was going on. I was supposed to hear from them yesterday, but still no call! I was literally looking to spend 10,000 bucks with them but they obviously won't get my business since they clearly don't want it. I went with a different company and they have been great since the beginning, Premier Heating and Air. Go with them over these guys. read more

Sean showed up at my house within the 2 hour window (point #1) and was super friendly (point #2). He was patient with all the questions I had and gave us a good gauge on the life left in our AC unit, and what to expect a couple years from now. He was honest with his answers, he could've bullshitted me and I wouldn't have known, but he didn't just tell me what I wanted to hear, which was great. The problem took longer than I expected to fix because he had to run down to Englewood to pick up a part, but it's not his fault there's traffic on a Thursday. Overall, I think he did a great job, gave us good recommendations to how to take care of the unit, and finally gave us a working AC to fight the 100+ degree weather. Don't know how they compare with other companies, but I'd use them again. BTW, thanks for the Yelp Deal to save me an extra $30. My furnace stopped blowing hot air sometime late Thursday night. It seemed like a minor problem, but I couldn't solve it. It was a Friday when I discovered the problem, so I knew I needed it fixed fast (and figured I would be paying out the nose for it.). Gus from Controlling Systems was able to make it out 30 minutes earlier than they told me he could. He fixed the problem by resetting a switch, and even showed me how he did it so I can handle it myself if it happens again. Only $49, and a $20 spot for my gratitude at not having my family freeze over the weekend. Will definitely make them my first call next time. read more

I can't say enough good things about this company, or Gus. He's fantastic, fast, professional, courteous, and what techs should be. It's the second time I hired Gus to replace a broken ignitor on my older Rheem furnace, and I immediately thought of Controlling Systems when I realised that the furnace wasn't igniting. I expressed interest in zone heating, and instead of just trying to sell me on the considerably greater expense and work, he explained it would not be the best thing when considering installation and long-term cost-to-benefit. The company gave us a bid for both a repair and a new furnace, even adding some additional info at my request to submit to my home warranty company, then Sean called to explain it very patiently, and then followed up today (a few weeks since we last discussed the new furnace). We just installed a brand new AC unit and was given a $400 discount by Controlling Solutions. I received three bids from the major players in town and Controlling Solutions definitely won our business. Great Yelp reviews really helped with our decision along with being a Denver based company since 1976. I did my research and was very happy with their pricing, installation and overall service. After our installation, we had a small issue and Controlling Systems fixed it without charge and extended our warranty for another 3 months to cover the difference. read more

My furnace started working sporadically...sometimes it would work fine, other times it would just blow cold air or not do anything at all. Unfortunately when your furnace goes cold you don't have many options. I had no idea what was wrong. I searched Yelp and was happy to find a business with good reviews. The yelp deal was another incentive to call these guys. I stupidly waited until after 5pm on a Friday to call. Not a good idea. Thankfully Controlling Systems doesn't charge an extra fee to come on a Saturday. My only complaint is the cost. It was around $300 to replace the ignitor. If I could have waited a week for one to come in the mail, I could have fixed it myself. Next time. The technician was friendly and took time to clean up. He checked all the settings and tweaked things which helped me feel a little better about the bill. I wouldn't hesitate to call this company when you're in a bind. They are prompt, on time and knowledgeable. Just be sure to take advantage of the yelp deal to save some money. read more

I trust these guys a lot - they discussed the maintenance work, showed me where things needed cleaning and where they didn't. They charged me a very reasonable rate and did a great job. Everything you want in a contractor. I've used them before and am still a happy customer. Highly recommended. [This service was 6/15/15, by Sean. I called Controlling Systems to get my swamp cooler up and running as it had not been used in 2 years. They gave me what I thought was a fair estimate to replace the water distribution system, water line and pads. Everything was running okay for about a week before it started to smell like burning. I called them up again and they sent the same tech over, who told me I now needed to get the motor replaced because the way he had installed the previous parts caused the motor to burn out. Given that this was his mistake, you'd think he'd offer the labor at no charge, but that was not the case. When I got the new estimate to replace the motor, I was shocked at how expensive it was. The replacement of parts for these two repairs would cost more than a new unit. I know this as I asked the tech in the very beginning how much a brand new unit would cost. Why would I pay more for parts than a brand new replacement? Some reviewers said they give free estimates. It's only free if you schedule repairs with them, otherwise you pay $89 for the trip charge. After reading all the positive reviews, I'm more than disappointed with this experience. Won't be coming here again. read more

Tech was perfectly nice but it took an hour longer than he projected (so missed my morning plans) and then they wouldn't honor the coupon from their website because what I had been told was the pricing was actually a special despite this not being explained to me at the time. We just had our furnace/humidifier serviced by Sean. He was on time and very professional throughout the appointment. He explained what he was doing and why and also let us know what kind of filters to buy that would be the most beneficial to our system. He also gladly gave us a senior discount! We'd had a technician come out from another company, one of those who call you on the phone, and he had us worried that our furnace needed major work, just short of replacement, and very expensive. I had Controlling Systems come out to diagnose a problem with my boiler. Brent found what was wrong with it in no time and we scheduled a repair date. He came out to repair the boiler last week and made a note to come back when I fired it up for the coming winter to make sure all was ok (at no charge). I will use Controlling Systems for my future boiler inspections. At the same time Controlling Systems replaced my 20 year old evaporative cooler. We had two vents in our new house that weren't pushing out heat at all. Controlling Systems was great and said if they couldn't diagnose the problem because ducts were in the wall or something, they wouldn't charge the $49 diagnostic charge. They sent someone out within 2 days of my call. He was very nice and helpful. The problem was simply the previous owner had used the wrong type of filter in the furnace. He had the right one in his car and voila, fixed. He did warn me of the vents not being in great spots come summer, and we talked about additional a/c options even though we have central air. He was very helpful and informative, though I do wish he had been a bit more responsive to my statements about waiting to see how it is in the summer and save a little just in case. Then again, I know upselling is necessary, and I'm sure we do need the product! read more

My furnace ignitor went out and as a result the furnace cycled on and off in short spurts. I contacted this company and Gus was dispatched, I really can't say enough good things about him. He didn't overcharge, cleaned everything out, was super nice, and explained what was going on. He even looked at the gas powered "wood" stove in the family room that hadn't worked in many months. Unbelievable. This company is great if you are interested in replacement. And are made of money. Brent came out to look at our broken AC unit. He was on time, and very courteous. After looking at the unit, he explained that it had a leak and would need replacing. He went on to offer a "leak check" and repair for over $900, but stressed he probably couldn't repair it. Our options to replace started at over $2k and went up from there. I also got the hard sell to schedule my replacement now as there is a big wait time. Well, I called another company for a bid--something every homeowner should do. This guy came out and found the leak, fixed and refilled my AC for a FRACTION of the cost of Controlling Systems. I couldn't believe the difference in price. These guys are price gougers, and are out to replace, not to repair. Stay away. read more
