A1 Roofing re-shingled our entire roof back in 2016. During last night's rain/wind storm, the ceiling fan in our guest bathroom sprung a significant leak. This morning, I called their office to let them know about the issue and Nancy looked up the work that was done. She talked to Jim who was at my house just before the time he said he'd be there. It didn't take him long to find the problem, a relatively easy fix, and he let me know he'd send a crew out within the next couple of hours with specific instructions. Not only was the crew here within the time he said they'd arrive, they fixed the presenting complaint and in addition, checked the entire ridge and resealed the skylight on the other side of the house. It was still nasty outside and I could hear laughter and the guys had a great attitude while they were out there. They must have had plenty to do today after the storm but A1 went above and beyond to protect my house before the damage could spread. My dad just passed away unexpectedly and you have no idea what it is to not have to worry about this on top of everything else that goes with losing a loved one. I'd give you ten stars if I could. Noticed a leak in one of my bedrooms. I called and they were quick to schedule an appointment to have one of there inspectors to come out to assess my current problem. The inspector came and went. He took a few pictures on the roof and the damaged area. Never went into the attic to see if anything else was damaged. Took days to get pricing and even longer to get an itemized bill. read more

We originally were impressed with this company. They came out and replaced our entire roof in one day. Seamigly working fast and efficient. There was some damage to our gutters from their truck and garbage left around the work site but nothing to bad. We have now had 2 leaks in the roof and they have been fixed within the week. However, we have feen waiting fo the mysterious "DAN" to call us back to get the damage to the interior of the house fixed. We now have a mold problem in our attic and our living room. We are sure "DAN" is not a real person but actually stands for "Dismiss and Neglect". I would not recommend this company to anyone wanting to have their roof replaced. read more

Our home was built in 1993. In November 2019 we knew it was past time to replace our roof. After doing a lot of research and interviewing different roofing companies, we chose A-1 Roofing. While other roofing companies may have also offered the same (Malarkey) architectural shingles. A-1 Roofing showed an interest in working with us to accomplish another project, the installation of VELUX rigid sun tunnels. The most important reason we chose A-1 Roofing was the professionalism and honesty of their representative Mr. Jeff Howell. Jeff took the time to explain every step that A-1 Roofing would be doing to remove and replace our old roof. He answered every one of our questions, no matter how trivial they may have been. Botton line is, we felt comfortable with Jeff and the plan he had proposed. Once the work started, our decision in choosing A-1 was affirmed. The crew was top notch. Everyone was professional, courteous and careful to protect our home from any damage during the roofing replacement process. The entire crew worked continuously to keep the job site clean throughout the project, this was very important to us. Replacing the roof on your home is something that most homeowners never have to deal with. It is expensive and disruptive. In time everything wears out and needs to be repaired or replaced. I just recommended a friend to them. They came out and gave him a estimate and were very professional. Even during these hard times they were fast friendly and efficient. I would recommend this company to anyone I have met all the staff and they are good people and do quality work. New roof no leaks and looks really good. For the other comments on here I wouldn't read into them. This shop here in port orchard is under new management and staff. If you want a good quality roof at the right price that you know what your paying for I would choose A-1 ROOFING and have recommended them to a lot of people over the summer. Awful, awful, awful. Never, never ever use this company, ever. Our skylight started leaking at the end of March, and these guys were quick to come out and give us an estimate on the repair, but once we gave them a non-refundable down-payment of 50% of the cost to fix it, we didn't receive any response for a couple of weeks. We called at that point, and they told us to expect it to take a couple more weeks to a couple more MONTHS to get around to the job, but they would send someone out to cover it with plastic. By plastic, they meant a black tarp. Great, now my skylight is broken and useless. Now, over THREE months later, they have still done exactly 0 work to repair the skylight. We've only talked to the completely rude receptionist lady, and she keeps telling us to call the guy who is supposed to be fixing it, but he's not answering our phone calls. They're completely dodging us. My husband called today, and now the receptionist is telling us it could take up to 6 months to find the time to do the work because they're booked. But, three months ago, it wasn't supposed to take more than a couple of months! So stressful!! Now we're essentially out $350 we really didn't have to spare for work we're not sure will ever even get started, let alone done, and who knows if it will be done correctly. I read a yellow pages review after we'd already paid for the work (unfortunately), saying they had the same problem getting them to start work, and did they did a shotty job, and they're refusing to fix it! Unbelievable! At this point, I'm wondering if we should just chuck it up to a $350 loss, and find someone else to do the work. I don't need another skylight that doesn't work. If I could give them zero stars, I would. I've been trying for two months now to get them to commit to their estimate contract and keep getting the brush-off like others have experienced. My experience so far is very similar to Don's in that, the receptionist is polite and promises she'll have Shane Slater (I think) call me back but he never does. Customer service is NOT something they're known for and now I see why. How they keep any business, I have no idea. I'm going to go to Ramirez Roofing now simply because he answers his phone and will actually communicate, even though this move is going to cost more money in the end. Decent ustomer service is worth the extra expense. read more

Customer Beware, Go with a reputable company that will put it in writing. They talk about using quality materials and giving you the online coupon but even if it is attached if you don't write coupon attached on the contract they say it wasn't there even though you stapled it to the front. They looked a few hundred dollars cheaper and the estimator that is the crews supervisor and that gave us the bid talked a good story but they used cheap inferior products and told us it was better product after the job was done than what we verbally agreed upon. The crew just showed up and start work without calling you so the job is already in progress when you arrive at the job site. The crew was actually a nice bunch of fellows and even agreed with us about the materials (off the record) but said they had to follow the bosses orders. Fast forward to trying to talk to an owner or someone in management. They told us "too bad, you don't have it in writing, we full filled our written contract and if you don't pay it NOW, we will send you to collections." We are new to the area and got three bids and they were all high from where we came from but for the size of roof they did it was a lot of money and it marginal work with cheap materials. I tried to get them to put it in writing before the job with the management but I was told he didn't have an email or a fax and was located at another office. They gave me a phone number but it was a voice machine with a general message and no one ever returned my calls. Eventually the supervisor calls me and verbally tells me all the accurate information and materials but wouldn't put it in writing the night before the job started, too late to really change or cancel and said all the right things so I assumed they were being honest. NO THEY WERE NOT, THEY DID NOT DO AS HE VERBALLY SAID AND THEN AFTER THE FACT TELLS ME TOO BAD IT WASN'T WRITTEN IN AND SPECIFIED ON THE CONTRACT. EXCUSE ME, MY MISTAKE FOR THINKING THEY ARE THE ROOFING EXPERTS AND RAN AN ETHICAL COMPANY. I would highly not recommend using this company, customer be warned, there are good roofers out there but many that will work like this company, I should have known when the office manager kept changing the scheduling and told me they were having in house problems and financial issues with billing that I should have gone elsewhere. I hope this review saves someone else the nightmare and stress we have been thru with this company. I made contact with A-1 due to a leak in our roof. I was speaking to Marrisa. I question her about Samantha V's rating and she became very defensive and said. " oh I know who you are talking about. she's a typical military wife." I stopped her and said, " hold on there, i'm a military wife and I don't appreciate that comment." she then tried to back track and say she was a military wife and what she was trying to say is, the military wife that is never happy and always complaining about everything, we couldn't make her happy and she knew what the time frame was going to be. If I wasn't in such a bind I would have moved on to another company but I was stupid enough to go ahead and have them come out to "tarp" the 3x3 area. A few guys came out the next day, tarped it and said a vent is to close and they need their head guy to come out and take a look at it. They also walked the roof and wrote down a few things for him to take a look at. The following week John Tibbs came to our house. He didn't have any paperwork from the previous guys. He said. " I have nothing on your roof, how embarrassing." I told him what they said about the vent. John walked around the roof, took a few pictures and came back down. He showed us very selective photo's , made it out that our roof wasn't in very good shape, the staples weren't holding and in the wind we'll probably lose shingles. said we didn't have flashing. With him " coaching us" into thinking we were going to chase problems. He wrote up an estimate. Not feeling to warm and fuzzy about dishing out over 9000 bucks. I had 2 very reputable roofing companies view the roof. Keep in mind this house was built 2003. so the roof is only 13 years old. I gave both the other roofing companies the list I wrote down. They laughed. John lied about most of it. There is flashing, the stables are holding and there is only a few things that needed attention. one guy put his name behind his word and said we have at least 10 more years on the roof. In the mean time I get a bill in the mail dated Feb 16th with no due date , so technically you have 30 days to pay it ( from A-1 for the tarping) 1 week later, I get a nasty call from Marrissa saying " we need to know if we should schedule for the new roof and if not you need to pay the bill , it is now considered over due." I can not believe this company. They trashed military wives, lied about the roof and flashing, I'll pay the bill for the tarp and labor, It will be in the mail post marked for March 16th and not a day earlier. I would stay away from this company. they lie. There are way to many other reputable roofing companies out there that wont try to swindle your hard earned money. Samantha V, take note of how marrissa was bashing you. If she is actually a military wife, that's a disgrace. Her active duty husband should be so proud. read more

I had a 120 foot tree fall on my house during heavy rains and winds on 3/1/2016. Fortunately I have a log home, so it didn't smash my house but it damaged my roof, destroying my skylight, breaking roof tiles and poked a hole through my roof deck with a tree branch. I had glass, debris and water all over the bedroom. My house is 3 stories high and has a steep 10/12 and 8/12 pitch roof. I am not young. I'm a 60 year old retired Iron Worker. I Immediately went out in the dark, wind and rain, climbed up my roof and boarded up the skylight, but the roof was still leaking. My insurance company told me to get some bids or estimates to fix the roof which is routine and required before they will pay for any repairs. The windy rainy weather continued for over a week so in the meantime I secured the roof with a heavy tarp to prevent further leaking and damage. Before covering the roof I took pictures and called some roofing contractors. A-1 Roofing (who advertises "FREE ESTIMATES") was the first to send their estimator John Tibbs, (mentioned in an earlier review), to my home on 3/7/2016. He was friendly enough and said he would get back to me in 2 or 3 days with a bid. He never did. I called their office a week later. The secretary was also nice and said she would follow up. She never did. I called again a few days later. The secretary again said she would follow up. She did nothing. Finally 15 days later I called John directly. He didn't answer, so I left a message. He never responded. I called again. No response. I was always polite when contacting them, but persistent because I needed the required bids for my insurance to OK the repairs. Finally almost 3 1/2 weeks later I called them for the last time. I was very polite and said, "I just need to know if you are not interested in fixing my roof, and if not, I will be free to look for another contractor. I need my roof repaired and I cannot proceed without an estimate so my insurance will pay for it. Again she was polite and said she would get ahold of John. To my pleasant surprise, she called me back that same day and said she had talked to John. He told her to tell me to look for another contractor because the roof was so high and steep and there were too many variables and unknowns to give and accurate estimate. So a month later, I am still trying to get a couple estimates to satisfy my insurance so they will agree to pay for repairs and I can have someone fix my roof. So much for their promise of giving free estimates. These people are very passive aggressive not to mention unprofessional and inconsiderate. read more

This company was UNBELIEVABLE. They replaced my entire 8000 sf roof in two days - not by cutting corners - but by applying a large, beautifully coordinated, well-equipped, hard-working and extremely well-managed crew. The guys came in early on a Monday morning. Without wasting a moment, the entire crew dispersed over the roof and by the end of the day, the roof had been stripped and re-papered. The manager, Ryan, noted areas of plywood that needed replacing and arranged for carpenters to come in with the team on the next day to complete the work. By the end of the second day the roof had been replaced: hand-nailed shingles, new flashing, new vents, and a diligent clean-up all around the house. I got three quotes before choosing A1 ROOFING - A1 ROOFING was the most cost-effective. I could not be happier. read more

Do not go with this company (A-1 in Olympia,WA) is my advice. Pretty bad experience in so many ways that would not be expected of a company with such pride in their longevity. They do not impress me at all in professionalism nor integrity. I entered a contract for re-roof in late aug 2017 with their agreement to do it by year's end. The year came to a close and I heard nothing from them regarding delay. As time progressed, I was to the point of cancelling as this isn't really the optimum time to do a tear-off. I sure wish that I had cancelled. They got around to it in early Feb 2018, giving me really no prior notice with a crew of most likely day laobores picked up from the local home improvement center. They were fast I give them that. Unfortunately, they did not perform the job to contract specs concerning very problematic oversights such as wrong venting (several vent cans-one less than original, failure to replace rotting and failed old decking even the areas that they banged out, They caused damage to a sidewall and of course take zero accountability for nor even mentioning it to me. I had to discover their deficiencies-they don't bother with a post-inspec to maintain a semblence of quality control. The resheet deck had no gaps to allow expansion of the sheets, contrary to plywood industry and roofing standards. Then the fastening staples used for the deck were located all over the place, rather than where they should be to maximize holdability, ie into the rafters-a real mess that cannot be remedied outside of a complete redo. They did not even bother to get a required county work permit-hardly ever do accordiing to folks at planning dept. Company chief even admits they rarely bother with this for whatever reason, even tho it was a point that was mentioned in contract. I could go on further, but you get the point. Be careful when seeking roofers-there are many bad ones only out for a fast buck at your expense and at the peril of your greatest investment. It seems they feel entitled to do whatever they wish and then bs their way out of taking any responsibility or accepting any liability for their ineptness. You have been warned!!! read more
