I specifically joined Yelp so I could write this review and hope that no one else experiences what I did with Cliff and Sharp Roofing. We recently bought a home, and a major sticking point was that we wanted to roof inspected to make sure it wasn't at the end of it's life, had no leaks or work needed to done. The sellers hired Cliff and Sharp Roofing to "treat" the roof and they certified the roof had at minimum 5 years of life, however they thought it had more like 10 years left. Additionally, they said there were no major items needing attention.
Before moving in we had a little work done the house. Our workers discovered there was a leak in the ceiling just three weeks after Cliff's company checked the roof, and only after a week of our workers starting on the project. I called Cliff to inquire why a roof would be certified that it was in good shape with no repairs needed, when in fact it was quite the opposite. Cliff, as during all my interactions with him, was extremely rude about the matter and kept saying his certificate was not a "guarantee or warranty". I then questioned what exactly is the certificate then if it doesn't cover what it says, and all he kept saying was it wasn't a guarantee or warranty. Cliff finally agreed to send his workers out of Thursday, April 24th to check the work.
Cliff's workers did show up on April 24th to check the roof, and I explained I would like a thorough check as they clearly missed a leak the first time they check the roof. They were up there for a brief period of time, and then came down near my contract workers to discuss what they saw. My contract workers explained to me they overheard Cliff's workers saying "lets just tell this guy it's moisture so we can get out of here". Sure enough that is what they told me and you could tell they were trying to leave the situation. I then called Cliff, while upset, and said I would like for him to come and check the roof personally. During this phone call Cliff and I agreed for a meeting on Sunday, April 27th.
Sunday, April 27th came and went as Cliff completely blew me off for the appointment. He never called or texted me to ask if we could reschedule, he just flat out never showed. I tried calling him several times as well texting, no response what so ever. Finally Sunday night came and Cliff just texted me we will meet Monday morning, not apologizing really.
When we finally met on Monday, Cliff's demeanor was very cold, he was extremely short and rude with me. He did not treat me whatsoever like a client, rather an inconvenience. After he did check the roof himself he tried to tell me it was the skylight leaking which doesn't fall under their responsibility. He said he would get me a quote from someone who could fix the roof, this was the last time I would hear from Cliff. For the next (8) days I kept calling, texting and trying to get a hold of Cliff with no luck. He completely blew me, never sent a quote or helped me find someone who could fix the leak.
I finally got another roofing company to come out and look at the roof on May 8th. Within no less than five minutes they found the leak which was in fact in the roof, not the skylight like Cliff tried to pass off. They said it was an easy fix under shingles, and said Cliff's company hands down should have been able to catch the leak had they just taken the time to look.
I really hope no one ever has to go through an experience working with Cliff like I did. His company doesn't stand by their work, tried to lie about the actual problem to "get rid of me", tried to lie about where the leak was in a skylight to not be held responsible, is completely unresponsive, acts rude towards customers, lacks followup and attention to detail and flat out they act like they don't care. Because of my situation my real estate agent has told her company if they need a roof certified or have work done to avoid using Sharp Roofing as it could hinder a sale. If you have other companies available to you I would highly suggest doing this so you don't question if the work was done right in the first place by Sharp Roofing. Cliff's lack of attention to detail during the home purchase cost me $1,100 and I am currently speaking with my lawyer about small claims court possibilities.
Cliff also mentions in response to this that I was not a client. I was a home buyer, & I asked that the seller hire a roofing company on our behalf to certify the roof so we knew it didn't need replacing right away. Thus, I was a client as the seller & I were working together on a deal that involved the expertise of Cliff. Furthermore Cliff's company certified our roof saying it had a minimum 5 years left, however they thought we would get 10 out of it. We have now lived in the house less than a year and another leak has happened near the same area. Other roofing companies who have looked at our roof say it needs a full replacement, quite a different assessment than Cliff's. read more
