They accommodated my friends allergy to garlic and onion. The tacos were flavourful. The service was quick and friendly. The essence of the interior was beautiful. Can't wish to return again and try their fish tacos! read more

This past year, Anejo opened a new location at CF Shops at Don Mills. They have some fantastic happy hour specials at 3pm, which we went for. We ordered a round of margaritas ($6 each), one of each taco ($3/each), and the mussel app. We would've liked to try their ceviche, but they didn't have it available that day. The food and service were fantastic. They also recently made it to Yelp's blog as the top margarita spot in Ontario. They have an assortment of margaritas to choose from with rotating monthly flavours. I chose the ginger margarita, and I recommend it. My friend had the mango and she liked hers as well but preferred mine. The restaurant is very spacious, and one section has floor-to-ceiling windows, which I love, or you can sit near the darker, moodier spot inside. If you're looking for a place to catch up with friends or a great value date night, come here for happy hour. read more

The inside of this restaurant has such a vibe! Cool and trendy and nice waiters. Food is okay though, bit on the pricey side: Quesa fundidos was delicious! Rich and packed flavour, it was fun to eat too with the little tortillas on the side. The guac for the table was $17 for 3 avocados. Cool they mash it in front of you, but I personally prefer my guac with more salt and garlic and the jalapenos minced not chopped. Chicken tacos were good though my fish taco was dry and bland and not crispy! Had to dress it up with the hot sauces. Quesabirria was cheesy and comforting! Recommend trying. The lemon tres leches cake was delicious! Served warm, the cake was fluffy and neutral while you have creamy lemon frosting and sauce on the top and bottom. read more

We came here on a Thursday evening for our 6 p.m. reservation to celebrate a friend's birthday. We were seated shortly at a table for 8 (there were 7 of us girls in total) and it was very roomy. For starters & while we waited for the rest of the party to arrive, we ordered their house salsa tasting and guacamole. The salsa tasting was nothing special. The spiciest salsa wasn't even that spicy and the two mildest ones were mediocre with one being sweet. I'd pass on ordering this one again. The guacamole was amazing!!! They make it tableside for you and it is served in a bowl that is made of volcanic rock. Once the rest of the party arrived, we ordered more starters. We got the guacamole again (it was that good! I could sit here and eat it all night!), coconut shrimp, mezcal adobo mussels and fundido tradicional. The coconut shrimp is on the same level as the salsa tasting. I didn't really taste the coconut and it was just tempera shrimp with some sauce on the plate... it looked unfinished. I felt like it could of been served with some garnishes. The mussels were good and I liked that it was also served in the bowl made of volcanic rock... seems like the bowl was heated up and stayed warm the entire time, which kept the mussels warm and didn't cool from sitting out for too long. After that, we ordered a bunch of tacos for the table. We ordered 6 of the crispy tilapia tacos under their classic tacos and premium tacos: tacos de cameron (bread prawns), birria de res (braised short rib) and tacos de pescado (grilled mahi mahi). I had the braised short rib taco (the taco is deep fried) and comes with some accompaniments + a consommé to dip your taco in. This taco is fun but can get messy. I also had the grilled mahi mahi which was nice and a fresher take on a taco. We then moved on to eating the birthday cake (which we brought) and also ordered their churros. The churros comes with chocolate sauce (yum!) however it was over fried & hard. We ended up staying there until close to midnight (our reservation max seating time was supposed to be 2.5 hours) and think we were able to do that as there was always seating available during the entire time we were there. At 10 p.m. when their happy hour began, we ordered three of their beef barbacoa tacos at $3 per taco. I really enjoyed the beef taco as it had a nice kick (spiciness) to it. We also ordered more churros (this time it was cooked well) and their tres leches cake. Kudos to our main server, Javin for putting up with us for so long! He was friendly and provided enough attention to our table + he could be easily located during our time there. He even helped us take a few photos and at one point, suggested going to their patio (covered in the winter) to take a photo if we wanted a really nice one! My friend and I also bought the I LOVE TEQUILA t-shirt that all the staff were wearing! It is such a cool t-shirt... has a logo of their skull on the back in color. I would definitely go back there again! The atmosphere is nice, the music coming out of the speakers is fun and their staff are all amazing. Next time, we'll go for $3 per classic taco to have with 1/2 priced tequila (includes even the top shelf ones) and maybe throw in some $6 margaritas. read more

Yes definitely deserving of a 5 stars. You know sometimes when you feel so bored and tired even on a Friday night. And just feel like hiding at home. This place lifts you up. Nice ambiance. The guacamole made at your table! Love the mahi mahi taco. The waitress will explain everything and bring hot sauce and this spicy mayo made in house. I fell in love with the spicy mayo. The churros can improve a little. It was on the dry end. Overall excellent service and love the ambiance. I am already telling my friends about this new location! I am coming back for sure. read more

Crowded on a Friday night even with bad weather. Make a Rez or you're waiting. I had high hopes but everything although good, kinda fell short of being great. I debated giving 4 stars instead of 3 but just too many little issues to get there. Tacos were mostly good. The short rib tacos were the best but also most expensive ($24 for 3). I ordered them with cheese but didn't get the cheese although I'm not sure I would have liked them more with cheese masking some of the good beefy taste. The pork and chorizo tacos were ok and the fish was 50% batter that was over fried to the point of being by hard. Taste was ok but texture was a turn off. They give you a bunch of diff sauces to try and they were ok but I didn't feel like there's much of a diff between mild and medium. I didn't want to try hot as I was worried it would be too much for me. In the entree the fish was over cooked and the carrots under cooked. Taste was still ok. Got mango and ginger margaritas both tasted good but didn't feel like you got much. Menu says 1.5 shots but honestly felt like I got no more than 0.5 shots, didn't feel or taste any alcohol at all TBH. Also kind of used to getting big margaritas here it's a small high ball glass filled to the rim with ice. Not sure there was enough room for 1.5 oz of liquid including the mix. Really two or three gulps is all you get for $12.50. Dessert was a shared lemony cake it was ok. Service was pretty good they were happy to explain stuff and answer questions and waiter was reasonably attentive even thought it was busy. Debating whether it's worth it to come back. $150 for two, including drinks and shared dessert and shared app. read more

Located in the Don Mills shopping center this spot has become out regular taco meeting. We go for happy hour once a month around 3 for 4 dollar tacos (I had 5) and cheaper drinks. The tacos are to die for even if they are quite simple, my favorite is the fish. We normally sit outside but they close the windows when it gets cold so it's comfortable. Service was fine, tacos only take 5 mins tops to get to the table after ordering. My only grip is their lack of beer on tap, the one beer they have is not tasty. No way am I paying 7 dollars for a bottle, I want good tap beer when I go out. read more

AÑEJO - Fish, pork and chicken tacos. My favorite is fish. - Mexican Near Me - Toronto, Ontario

This is a very popular spot so try to make a reservation if you want to give it a try. Personally, I found it to be okay, but not the best. Service was nice but it was quite slow. It took a while just to be greeted and even longer to place our order. We decided to go for the table side guac and mussels to start since the ceviche wasn't available. The guac was nice, but there's really nothing special to it. I think you could just as easily make that at home much better. I just have preference for a more refreshing flavor. The chips were a bit stale which I felt a bit disappointed about. But it wasn't a deal breaker. The mussels were nice but holy smokes that sauce was extremely salty. It was very concentrated and I really couldn't enjoy much of the rest of our meal. We ordered 6 tacos, one of each, and they were all quite a bit salty. Very meat heavy for carnivores out there that like that style of taco. For me, I wish there was something refreshing in the tacos just to break up the flavor. Over all, I really didn't enjoy how salty everything was. I enjoy tacos but I think there's other places that I would much rather support then. Judging by the constant line up though, I'd say give it a try. It definitely seems to be a popular spot. read more

The place is really cute and easy to find. Because it's at shops at Don Mills, it was a little difficult to find parking but you can find it. The staff were very kind. The tacos were okay, but a little bland. Their best taco is the fish taco. We also ordered the ribs appetizer and the ribs were well cooked, but dry. I would definitely be interested in trying something else from their menu to see what other flavor options they may have. read more

Met friends for dinner here, first time. Reservations were made online and was only given the option of high top table seating only. Upon arrival we discovered they had a downstairs area that consisted of 3 half moon style booth and a hand full of tables and the bar. This was clearly overflow seating. No windows and a bit darker but much more quieter than the main restaurant. There is an elevator so it is handicapped friendly. The menu was much smaller than expected. Handful of appetizers, a couple of salads and soup and a selection of mains. Tacos (soft) could be order in combinations of 1, 3 or 6. There are 6 different types so ideally you could get 1 of each. Guacamole is made table-side. Extensive drink menu with a focus on tequila. You can order what they call 'flights' where you choose the brand and get 3 small shot glasses of the tequila of your choice at different stages of aging. Food was okay, the fish taco and chicken tinga was okay but the beef barbacoa was very dry. A box of hot sauce was provided and was almost a relief because the beef definitely needed a little something. There are only two options of dessert. Churros or a lemon dulce de leche cake. The cake was way too sweet. We had a dessert lover at the table with a big sweet tooth and even she said it was too sweet. Service was just okay. The salsa sampler was ordered before the drinks and didn't come until after our mains and only after a reminder. I don't think this was our waitress but more the kitchen. The churros that were ordered came cold and hard. Almost like they were already made and when ordered they just plated them. A 'complaint' was made and the waitress immediately took them away and brought a fresh batch. She also took it off the bill. Recommended tipping starts at 18% with the high end at 33%. Make sure you check the screen before choosing the tip level as the high end is listed first. All in all it was okay. Not sure if we would rush back for another visit. read more

Tacos were probably worse than la carnita... everything was way too salty. The meat was also really dry. We ordered all 6 tacos to taste and I was disappointed with all of them. We also ordered the special birria tacos which was probably one of the better things we ate tonight. We shared the guac amongst the table and they prepared it table side. It was ok. Nothing was standout good. The vibes were nice and the service was good but food was really a let down. read more

Best ambience and happy hour in the city! We arrived at the restaurant at 2:30pm just before happy hour started (3pm) and ordered some appetizers! Highly recommend the tableside guacamole where they make it in front of you (plus unlimited chips!). The mushroom flautas came with incredible avocado crema dip and had very hot pulled cheese. The Mango margarita was half price and delicious along with the tacos. We ordered chicken, beef, and fish. The beef was my favourite and each taco came with a box of various hot sauces ( fun to experiment with!) The tacos were half off during happy hour. read more

The food was alright - I expected better considering all the hype. The server we had was also just alright. The four of us will not be returning. read more

The Birria tacos here were amazing!! They were so juicy and flavourful. I honestly was so full and mad at myself for being full because I wanted another plate. They also had a selection of various hot sauces, which I absolutely love. The green one was my favourite. The patio was super cute too, music was a little too loud inside. The only reason I am rating it 4 starts instead of 5 is that service was slow. It took forever for our menus to be brought out and honestly service just seemed a little disengaged even though it was not a busy day (literally a Tuesday afternoon). A good drinking and food spot for a group of friends though. read more

We went there tonight for my partner's birthday. Here is the breakdown: The restaurant the place is fabulous! It is very warm and inviting. There are lots of Mexican artifacts. We loved the skull references and the "Wall of Ta-Kill-y'a". Seating is comfortable too. We would have appreciated the music volume to be somewhat lower although the tunes were very nice. The menu The menu had all the requisite dishes. I had the Al Pastor while my partner had the Fish tacos with mahi-mahi. It arrived fresh and very tasty. The key dish which knocked our socks off, was the guacamole. Fresh doesn't begin to describe it. Our "person" prepared it in front of us and the flavours where out-of-this-world. We could not have made it any better at home, and we are pros at this. For desert, we shared the traditional lemon cake which also was incredibly fresh. The prices are on the high side, but these inflationary times, make it no surprise to us. To be honest, we really felt like we had good value, given everything. The service The service was exceptional. Our "reason" was Samantha and she was very attentive without being intrusive. She was always smiling and even recommended that we share the cake as the portion was large. We very much appreciated her honesty and helpfulness. Overall Highly recommended. Very easy to get to and lovely ambiance. I only gave it four stars because of the sound volume. Otherwise, terrific place. read more

3.5 stars. This new location in the Shops of Don Mills, scores points for lots of free parking; a large indoor space; and a daily happy hour (3-5pm; 10pm-12am) for half price tacos and $6 margaritas! The vibe is fun, it's beautiful inside, it's always packed around happy hour (obviously) so if you want to check it out then definitely make reservations! I tried a few tacos - birria tacos, fish taco, chicken taco. All were decent, if a tad bit salty...but for the half price...can't really go wrong! Their margarita flavour selection was also pretty interesting- I had a spicy one (they made it extra spicy for me!) and the feature margarita (changes monthly, I believe I had the lychee one...but whatever it was...it was way too sweet) Our server was friendly and we didn't have to wait, but as the evening went on they were pretty much full. Definitely try this spot out at happy hour - have a good time and save some money is a win win in my books! read more

Food was amazing! We got the salsa nachos to start with free refill of nachos. All the dips - guacamole, salsas, refried beans - were very good. My husband and I ordered the three tacos - I got chicken, beef, carnitas and he got same except fish instead of pork. So good. Choice of extra toppings for $0.50 like sour cream or salsa, but table has lots of sauces and spicy mayo which were good enough for me. I enjoyed all of them, beef being my favourite. My son got the quesabirria tacos which did not disappoint! Sunday afternoon on patio on a lovely fall day - it was amazing. Don't remember the server's name but he was from Guatemala and a great server! Was a little pricey for tacos and nachos but I would definitely recommend and I will also be back! Really excited that Añejo opened near by, we've always been wanting to check out their downtown location. We went in on a week night and we're told it was about an hour to an hour and a half wait. We took a quick stroll and came back about an hour later and we were seated. It took our waitress about 20 minutes to finally come to our table and grab our order. We started off with a margarita and a beer. We then grabbed 6 different types of tacos to share and the guacamole. The guacamole was table side and extremely fresh. We had higher expectations for the tacos, a couple of the tacos weren't bad but the fish and chicken tacos were quite dry. We then finished off our dinner with some churros which were the highlight of the meal. Might visit again and give this place a second chance. read more

I was excited that this location finally opened, it didn't disappoint! The restaurant is pretty spacious, it provides a lot of seating to accommodate weekend traffic. The atmosphere was quite loud, but understandably for a chill hang out restaurant. Ordered: Mango Margerita 8/10 La Paloma de Teresa 8.5/10 Ceviche Tasting 8.5/10 - Pretty presentation, good mixture of flavours Guac 8/10 - Standard guac, not too salty. Prepared table side, a fun addition to the meal Mexcal Adobo Mussels 8/10 - Packed with flavours, slight heat kick Tacos de Pescado 9/10 - Delicious, very filling Tacos Birria con Res 7/10 - Nothing notable. Added cheese, sour cream and pico de gallo but wasn't told they were an extra charge. Be weary, ask if there's an extra charge for any toppings Churros 6/10 - Not soft, had a weird rubbery aftertaste... TLDR: Lengthy drink menu, super yummy and would return just for the bar. Great apps. Don't bother splurging on their premium tacos, you'd get just as much satisfaction with their classic tacos. I recommend going during their halfy hour (half price tequila shots + classic tacos), which happen twice a day. read more

Visited on a Sun night and had to wait around 30-45 min for a table. We originally got seated in the very back corner of the restaurant even though there were several tables available. We were able to move once asked. The food was good although I would probably only visit again during happy hour. Tacos are notoriously expensive but there just wasn't anything standing out about these ones that justify the price for me. The best classic taco was pulled pork, the beef and fish were okay. What really makes them good is the house made mayo they give. The specialty shrimp tacos were good but pretty spicy if you can't tolerate heat. The coconut shrimp was just okay too. The guac may have been my favourite part of the meal and it's made at the table. The churros were pretty good too but we did have to wait quite a while for them. read more

We tried this place out for their Happy Hour Specials, which are available 7 days a week, from 3-5 pm and 10 pm - midnight. The margaritas are $6 and our server suggested the guava, which was amazing. The mango mint agua fresca had a red color from the grenadine, which I personally didn't like. I couldn't detect any mango flavor, but it was refreshing. The "classic" tacos are $3 each and we tried the beef barbacoa, pork carnitas, crispy fish, chicken tinga, and chorizo. Our favorites were the beef barbacoa and the fish tacos. The tableside guacamole for $17 was fun to watch, but quite pricey in my opinion. The interior is dark, but colorful, and I recommend sitting on the patio if it's a sunny day. read more

A great new restaurant at Shops at Don Mills. I've had the pleasure of going to Anejo twice now, once for dessert and drinks and once for a full dinner, and the experience was excellent both times. The food was delicious and the staff was so nice. The restaurant is also newly renovated with an interesting design. So far I've had the chance to try: The guacamole with chips - handmade at the table. The tacos with corn tortillas - we had the beef, chicken, tilapia, and chorizo. Chicken and beef were my favourites. The tres leches cake - lemon cake with creamy tres leches sauce. Churros - the classic dessert with chocolate sauce for dipping. If you like margaritas I'd recommend the ginger or blood orange ones. Ginger is good if you like sour and salty flavours. Blood orange is good if you prefer sweet. A couple of practical tips: They have a great happy hour between 3-5pm and 10pm-12am. Margaritas are $6 each and classic tacos are only $3 each! Like everywhere at Shops at Don Mills, parking is free in the mall. I recommend parking in the parkade because you can always find parking there and it's covered. From there it's a close walk to the restaurant which is in the plaza in the middle. The patio is quite enjoyable even if it's chilly outside since it's covered and they have heaters. Overall, it's a very nice new restaurant concept! I'm looking forward to making this one of my regular hangouts! read more

Shops at Don Mills needed a new restaurant and I'm happy it's Anejo! I came here for the first time on a Wednesday evening with a party of 2. It wasn't too busy so we were seated immediately. They have a large selection of drinks and tacos. For drinks we had the lychee margarita and mango margarita, both were good. The food came out piping hot. We ordered the birria tacos and they were so amazing! I especially loved that they put toppings like cilantro on the side so we could choose how much we wanted in our tacos. I was so hungry that I forgot to take pictures. Service was great and ambiance was nice. I'll definitely be back! read more

A newer addition to The Shops at Don Mills, this design-forward, modern Mexican restaurant is a beautiful space and features a huge patio overlooking the public square. Although we were there on a cold November night, I can imagine the vibe on a warm summer's night and will come back just for that. The service was friendly and attentive, even on a busy night. They definitely make you feel welcome, something you don't always get from large format restaurants. We started with the guacamole, which is mixed at your table, a nice theatrical touch to an old favourite. More importantly, the guacamole was tasty...just the right amount of salt, garlic, and heat. The tortilla chips were fresh and had a nice chilli sweet seasoning that complemented the guacamole. We elected for the corn tortilla tacos. There were lots of choices. I chose the braised short rib and my companion the vegetarian specialty taco. Both were tasty. The rib taco was served a little soggy and the beef was a little dry but they did serve it au jus. We topped up our 3-each taco order with 2 tilapia tacos from the regular taco selection (as opposed to premium specialty tacos). The tilapia was the best of all three! We'll be back, hopefully on the patio in warmer weather. read more

A spacious spot with good vibes and cool decor, Anejo might just be my new favourite place for happy hour, which runs twice daily from 3-5pm and then again from 10pm-midnight. Even though the classic tacos that I tried (beef barbacoa, pulled pork, and crispy fried tilapia) were just "meh" and a little on the dry end, I really loved how affordable the happy hour menu was (helloooo $6 margaritas) and the guacamole was fresh (they mortar and pestle it at your table). The servers are friendly and polite and there are so many margarita flavours to try - 12 to be exact. My only tip is to be careful going to the bathroom after a few drinks in as it's located in the basement! You can choose to wait for the very slow elevator or you can tough it out down the long flight of stairs.. just make sure you hold on to the railing! read more

Been here twice and always during their happy hour where they have half priced tacos. The fish tacos are DELICIOUS. The rest are just okay, but maybe I have been doing it wrong as I have not opted for any guac or sour cream etc. I think that would up the flavor on the other tacos. I love that they give a basket of hot sauces to mix things up a bit. Their drinks are also pretty good. I really enjoyed those as well. Service has been excellent both times I was here. I'm pretty much at Shops everyday as we live a walk away and was so excited when I saw a Mexican spot opening up. There are some pros and cons to my experiences here. For the pros - it's nice and spacious, the service is always great, they have a happy hour menu which is always a good thing, their drinks are delicious (especially the margs), and they have some of the best guac around (I'd consider myself a guac connoisseur lol and make a mean one myself. It takes a lot for someone else's guac to impress me and this one did). The bar area overall is nice (definitely a good spot to get drinks). I'd also recommend the coconut shrimp as an appetizer - so tasty. The only con I have with this place, are the tacos, which is a pretty big deal considering it should be a star dish at any Mexican restaurant. The tacos aren't the greatest I've ever had but aren't the worst either. The birria tacos in particular are a bit bland and lacklustre. Last time I went, our food was on the cool side and probably should've been reheated. Don't feel too great paying full price for these tacos since they're not my favourite and would rather go during happy hour instead. There are a lot of things I like about Añejo so I'd return but probably to try something else off the menu. read more

Presentation of the food and atmosphere were nicely lit. Careful though this place has a wait time of 1 hr at a Friday evening if you want to get in. Lots of friendly staff, spacious and well-design nice orange hue like the movies where they eat at Mexican restaurants The guacamole process they use is very interesting, they use 2 forks and start hitting the guacamole on front of you in a large bowl. U can see the avacado and seasonings being grinded right there . Very cool The tacos we got weren't the best, the mushroom one is quite sour and I had to drown it out with some nacho chips . The other meats seemed pretty dry and the flavour had to be fuller. I feel they know their meats aren't well seasoned and they substitute neatly place sauces on the table. The pulled pork one was the only real juicy one that didn't need to be SAUCED. But they were hit and miss, I really wanted to like them . I didn't try the other dishes but I bet they are good . Will def return again read more
