Baja Fish Taco

Before I get into the negatives, I want to give Chuuk its flowers. Chuuk is easily one of the most upscale and stylish restaurants in the Durham region. It would feel at home on any street in downtown Toronto. Unfortunately, the food and service don't live up to the ambiance. I arrived late in the evening, but the staff failed to mention that the kitchen was nearing last call. In fact, they initially assured us we could order more dishes later, only to cut us off later. As for the food, it's some of the weakest Mexican cuisine I've had. Not only was it underwhelming, but the cost made it feel downright insulting. The Tuna Crudo was bland. The birria taco was more of a salty mush than food. The baja fish taco was a crudely fried fish that was tasteless.

Really enjoyed this spot which is kind of tucked away in the middle of a residential neighbourhood! Beautiful ambience, the staff are very friendly and offered good suggestions for the food and beverages. We ended up getting the guacamole, corn and cassava fries for apps and then I ordered the octopus for my main. Oh my goodness. This is literally the best octopus I think I've ever had in Toronto. It was perfectly cooked, great textured not too chewy and the sauce that came with it was just amazing. I really enjoyed my dish. They also have great options for cocktails- the la Mora was delicious!! I've also had the pink jaguar before which was also very good. Churros were fresh and delicious and their tres leches cupcake is also a must try! Def come by here if you're ever in the area! They also have a private room which is great for reservations for large groups!

We visited Chuuk Wednesday evening around 7 pm. Lots of parking available in the lot. The interior is really nice and aesthetic. It was a weekday and we made a reservation so there wasn't any wait time. Not a super loud restaurant which I liked. There is seating available inside and outside. The server was very friendly and was really attentive. What we ordered: -Vegan tacos - okay - $21 (for 3) -Achiote Chicken - liked this a lot - $36 -Churros (dulce de leche, chocolate sauce) - not a fan of the chocolate sauce. - $12 -Pink Jaguar (tequila, cointreau, prickly pear, lime, hibiscus salt (2oz)) - $15 - loved this I enjoyed my experience at this restuarant. It was nice and clean inside the restuarant and in the washrooms. The food overall was solid. My only criticisms are that i'm not sure if I would say it's authentic mexican though and it is on the pricier side. Overall: Food: 3.7/5 Service: 5/5 Vibes: 5/5

We came on a Friday night and had a great Mexican meal. Everything tasted fresh and well seasoned. The guac and street corn were generous portions and perfect as a combination for dipping. Our al pastor and fish tacos were tasty and a good balance of textures and flavors. The curious felt a bit dry but the ice cream was perfection! Parking available in plaza. Highly recommend reservations!

I haven't been to Chúuk for a long time and I had forgotten what I was missing. Besides their delicious Mexican cuisine, they have great cocktails, fantastic premium choices from their bar, a sophisticated ambiance, and great service! My friend and I started with their Cassava Fries, served with a chipotle mayo. It was a good start. Our cocktails arrived shortly after - Caribbean Punch (secret rum blend, pineapple-punch, nutmeg) for me and Thought Bubble (gin, soursop, prosecco cordial, avocado leaf, lime) for her. Both drinks were really good and it was our first time having Soursop Rum Liqueur. I never even knew this existed! For our meal, we had their Baja Fish Tacos and Campchano Tacos. The latter had chorizo, beef, cheese, avocado, and other delicious ingredients. They were all loaded with flavour and delicious!

I'm not generally excited by Mexican cuisine, but I very much enjoyed our dinner at Chuuk. All of the food was delicious and the service was welcoming and prompt. We asked our waitress for recos and these didn't disappoint. Started with the street corn and cassava fries as appetizers, followed by fish, pulled pork and braised beef tacos. Dessert was churros with ice cream. We liked the beef the most, all of the tacos were very good, though. My wife enjoyed her banana-infused old fashioned. We went for a date night but asked if they have a kids menu, our waitress replied that they offer a number of dishes for kids, just don't show them on the menu.

Empanadas

Really good! We went for lunch and had the empanada entree that is only available on the lunch menu. There are 2 large empanadas, I couldn't finish! The only negative about the entree is the green sauce becomes too much after a while, I'd prefer it served on the side or drizzled over as opposed to pooled on the bottom. We also had the guacamole and chips to start, the guacamole was delicious! The serving size was very large. I'd like to try dinner and cocktails here some time! The hibiscus agua Fresca was also wonderful!

Inside decor

3.5/4 This was recommended to me by a friend as I was driving by Pickering. The inside decor is super cute and would make a great date night spot. Love the tropical wall paper in the side room and wooden tables. We got the baja fish tacos and Birria tacos. I would have to say I have had better tacos for a cheaper price. The flavour was bland and was only okay. But the real winning dish of the night would have to be the Achiote chicken, the chicken was so tasty and tender. Perfectly cooked that it's still juicy. The rice was so delicious even the pickiest 2 year old ate it all. The salsa and avocado was a great pairing with the chicken. I would come back for the decor, to sit out on the patio for drinks and the chicken!

I heard of good things from this restaurant. The ambiance is very nice, very hip and vibing. The service was good as well. The food a bit on the pricier end. I ordered the pink jaguar margarita which was quite tasty. The guacamole was good with fresh chips, ordered more chips and had to pay extra. I had high hopes for the birria. I always see that it comes with a dip, but it did not. It had a lot of meat but honestly it could be a lot better as it was a little dry with not a lot of toppings and no dip for a birria taco.

Really pretty restaurant in Pickering! Great aesthetic. I wish I had taken photos. Servers are very attentive and our orders came out very quickly. Drinks and food were delicious. I had the Chuuk Margarita. Drink is strong and I really enjoyed it. For food we had the Birria tacos, fish tacos, and the guac and chips. Birria was a little too salty for me but everyone else really enjoyed it. Delicious nevertheless. I noticed that they also had a function room. Very pretty as well!

Guac and chips, sangria and sweet potato tacos (at the back)

This was our first in-person dining since lockdown. Social distancing is maintained very well, with lots of space in between tables as well as barriers. All the staff are masked and following protocol. This was our first time to this place and all I can say is it is beautiful and bright. Their decor is very nice. Food: We ordered the cassava fries (must order), guac and chips and sweet potato tacos. The cassava fries are a must have! They were the hit of the meal! The guac was ok- nothing memorable. The sweet potato taco were good, but the portion size was very small compared to the other tacos. These tacos were pre rolled and stuffed with sweet potato, so not the tacos you would be expecting. (We happened to see a nearby table get another type of taco and the portions were much more). For dessert, we had the tres leches cake and it was delicious! Drinks: We had the sangria and the espresso. Both were very well made. I would go back to try the fish tacos and ofcourse cassava fries again!

Chuuk is a great place to go with some friends or family, or even a date night. Ambuance is great and the decor is really nice. All our food was great, Birria tacos especially. Go back and eat those for sure.

I remember one day driving by Cielito Lindo and seeing it boarded up. I though it was sad because…read moretheir food was amazing and we had enjoyed coming here. Well, little did I know, there had been a fire which had caused the closure of businesses in the strip mall. I'm not in this area often but we happen to drive by it and I saw their sign was there again! My first thought was CHICKEN MOLE!!!! We immediately pulled in and ordered dinner! Our 'old faithfuls' were still in the menu... tabasco combo and chicken mole! We order a takeaway but they are open for dine-in. This restaurant NEVER lets us down. The food is OUTSTANDING and the quality has never wavered. I'm so glad they've weathered all the storms they have faced and are still going strong.

This place is close to where I live, so I wanted to check it out. They always seem super busy. I…read moreordered the Mole Poblano and had horchata. I had some issues with this place. First of all, there are too many table and chairs in the restaurant area. So much so that if someone has their chair pulled out a little bit, it's really difficult to sit comfortably. Secondly, it is very obvious when they are busy the server (singular) becomes overwhelmed very quickly. We didn't receive chips and salsa as is normal for a restaurant like this. Also my drink never came because the person said he was off his rhythm. I don't think it's a rhythm, I think you have too many tables for a restaurant of that size, even without taking into account take out orders or delivery apps. The food I had was very good though. I loved the mole sauce, it was not too choclatey, and not too spicy. It was very well balanced. My partner had the Pollo poblano though, and there was not a poblano to be seen. I was initially confused why they had Pollo Con Mole and Pollo Poblano but no Mole Poblano. I think it's because there's no poblano used. At the same time it is the best Mexican food restaurant in Pickering.

We ordered x3 fish tacos, x3 beef tacos, and chicken nachos. It was a nice change to have meat added to nachos without any additional cost. Were they the best nachos and tacos I've ever had? No, but this place does have potential. The chicken on the nachos was shaved from a spit and was beautifully seasoned. Next time I try this place I will go for the shawarma instead! The man we ordered from asked us if we wanted to omit any toppings. The beef tacos were pretty spicy - which we like, but if you can't handle spice, tell them when you're ordering. I preferred the fish tacos over the beef. The nachos were good enough and had lots of cheese and a good topping-to-chip ratio. Give this place a try!

It has 2 table tops to seat 3-4 ppl and has some decent space. There was one person working there doing cashier, food cooking, take-out app and such...It took about 15 mins to have our order of 3x soft tacos and 1x quesadilla... 3x Haddock (Frozen & Fried) Taco-$12.99 -Typical toppings on a soft taco with lettuce, tomato, corn, sour cream - If I knew they would drop literally one fish stick the size of a chicken strip and end up chopping it in 6x small pieces to place on our tacos I would have omitted from ordering this and just stick with chicken or beef... - This is easily the WORST Taco I've had in my life!!! Clearly not worth the price tag. Chicken Quesadilla-$9.99 - Again typical stuff you find in the quesadilla, but I noticed they use the chicken from the shawarma and put it on flat stove grill and chop up the pieces...It barely had any cheese and the meat wasn't spread evenly across the quesadilla.. - Not the worst but not average too...The highlight is their garlic cream sauce they provide with this... This place opened on Nov 14, 2022...Based on the food we tried for $25+, I'm not sure how will it'll fare but first impressions are important and this place totally fell FLAT!!! Food: 1/5 Will NOT be returning!
