Came here on a Sunday night. Was craving Mexican and was excited that they had chicharron and guacamole. Service was good. Atmosphere was nice. Parking there is a lot in the back. We ordered the chicharron and guacamole as well as 6 tacos (beef, chicken, 2 x carnitas and 2 x pastor) The appetizer was good not complaints. The tacos seemed a little dry. It felt like it was missing something. I was in Mexico recently as well as comparing them to tacos we had in LA. Just didn't hit the same. We came to El Bocho for Josh's birthday and couldn't have picked a better spot. The staff were incredibly welcoming and even let us bring our own cak. This is such a thoughtful touch that made the celebration feel extra special. The food? Fantastic. We tried a variety of enchiladas and birria tacos, each with its own flavorful twist. The guacamole and chips were super fresh, and the whole place radiates a vibrant, authentic Mexican vibe. Few days later and I still have the hungover from the food, vibe and the place itself. We celebrated my friends birthday and El Bocho understood the assignment. We went saturday night we were there for 8pm as the live entertainment starts at 8:30 pm enough time to settle in to enjoy the performance of that lovely singer. Our table ordered all different dishes from the menu. From guac and chips to start, birria tacos, quesadilla, fish tacos, enchiladas, alambre on fire, chimichanga and molcajete. Everything is sooo mouth watering as they serve it. We got to share some and taste one of each. Each dish has its own distinct flavour. I for myself had the birria tacos and its so good. The consomme that comes with it is packed with so much spice and flavour taking and giving you the Mexico feel. I really enjoyed that crispy tortilla with that tender and juicy and generous shredded beef inside. Even the fish tacos is lightly battered and so flaky and fresh, comes with salad on the side. They serve cocktails and mocktails just request if you prefer the alcohol free drinks and pop as it is not on the menu. We didn't try their desserts as we brought our own cake for the birthday. Next time I'll get the churros its looks so yummy from the picture. Everything tastes delicious. The live music sets the diners into a festive mood as the singer starts her set. She goes table to table engaging with the customers to join her in singing and dancing. And since we all love to dance we didn't waste a moment to hit the dance floor. Its literally a party. The staff are so amazing. Shoutout to Dianna she's a gem! Very attentive to all our requests and my favourite part is when they hype up the place and join the customers to party all night long. It's a pleasure to meet Gabby as she also never let us have a dull moment. This is a family owned business and you'll feel the bond and hard work the people put in to keep this place entertaining and amazing. The interior has a dimmed lighting and a bar at the end. And not a space is wasted for tables and chairs filled the place. The front part of the restaurant is where the singer have her place, I like how they can lift up the door to open the place when it is a nice warm weather to let the fresh breeze in and have patio set up outside. Two separate washrooms are available. Parking at the rear of the restaurant is available but street parking is also on site. The experience we had at El Bocho is incredible. Finding great authentic mexican place in the gta is very rare and I'm glad we've crossed with this one. read more

Very lively Mexican restaurant with really friendly staff and great atmosphere. We came on a Friday night and they had live music playing. If you're coming for a date, don't expect to talk to each other without yelling. We ordered the Molcajete which comes with 2 steaks, skewers, corn, cheese, onion rings, cactus, wieners and a side of tortilla and rice. We went for this dish bc we saw so many rave reviews for it. Overall it was alright, I found it a bit on the bland side. The onion rights were at the bottom so they were all soggy, and the sauce, which sits in the bowl the food arrives in, didn't have much flavour. We regretted not going for tacos or their enchiladas instead which looked good (table beside us ordered it) We wont mind coming back to try the other foods on the menus as the place was fun. We had a wonderful time yesterday evening, enjoyed beautiful live music ( start from 8pm on Saturday). The atmosphere was awesome, the deco just reminded us of the time when we were in Mexico. Waiters speak Spanish and lots of customers speak Spanish as well, so we know it is authentic Mexican food. It is always packed on Saturday evening, so we called in advance to make sure a table is available. We had Pina Colada's ($18) served in pineapple, is so good, very creamy and coconut flavored, with fresh pineapple slides. For appetizer, we ordered Nacho Grande which many people are ordering, turned out to be a bad choice for us. The cheese and chips stuck together, hard to eat, cannot taste what is what. We will definitely skip it next time. For main, we ordered Alhambra on Fire ($32) with steak and shrimp half and half, which was a perfect choice, the steak was very tender and shrimp was very flavorful, wrapped with cheese, a mouthful of heaven. We also tried Flautas Rancheras ($20) with fish, happy with the choice as well. It was crispy outside and fish's tenderness inside with cheese, it is hard to fail. We came Wednesday lunch time, and it's quiet, got greeted and seated immediately. EI Bocho is a traditional Mexican restaurant, with cozy decorations . They also have limited patio tables. Service is very good and fast. We liked the atmosphere here, very relaxing and casual. Went in for a late lunch with a few friends. Beautiful decor and friendly staff. I loved the presentation of the molcajete. Would love to try the churros one day. I did not enjoy the calamari as much, the nachos were okay, and the molcajete was just not what I expected. This was the 2nd time that I came to this restaurant. And this time, everything and everywhere is open after Covid. The restaurant had a music night show, and every customer was really excited and having fun there. Sometimes, they had sent some smoke by CO2. We did take-out this time almost the last few mins of their business time. They were really nice to let us in and gave some time for choosing the dishes. We did ask a few questions about the dishes, because we don't have any ideas of them. The waitress was really nice and patient to answer our inquires. We ordered 2 dishes (Burritos & Quesadilla), they both a bit expensive, but there were 2 big pieces of Burritos and Quesadilla was a huge folded tortilla. I finally decided to try this place out after hearing great reviews from friends. I guess this place gets super busy because when we arrived, they said they only had 1 more table available because all the other tables were reserved, so I got lucky. As an app, I ordered the Nachos (with beef $20). The nachos WERE SO GOOD. The chips were fried to perfection, and it was loaded with all the ingredients on top. Super crispy. We ordered the Chicken Tacos and Carnita Tacos ($16). We didn't enjoy the tacos to be honest. The meat tasted very bland and it was too oily. The tortilla shells were also falling apart and we ended up having to eat a deconstructed taco. Overall, we would definitely come back for the nachos. We'll pass on the tacos, but we'll try the other things on the menu. The staff and service were great too. It's a super cozy and aesthetically pleasing Mexican restaurant. Food: Great, it was more and simple. The food I had yeast fresh and nice.. pop is not on the menus so you need to ask. The drink comes in a skull. Very good. If your a vegetarian I'm not sure about this place. So call a head to confirm you have something for you.. Staff Friendly and nice. I was able to make a reservation for my group. It's been hard finding a good Mexican restaurant in the GTA, but the search is over! My partner and I were craving Mexican food and came across El Bocho nearby. Parking is a bit hard to find - it's mostly street parking but they have some short-term parking behind the building. When you walk in, you're greeted by very friendly and welcoming staff. We ordered some fish tacos (on their recommendation), a carnitas quesadilla, and some calamari for an app. The breading for the fish tacos and calamari wasn't super thick yet still crispy, which we really appreciated. It wasn't soggy either. The pricing is a bit higher than your typical Mexican place, but don't let it fool you - the portion sizes are huge. My partner and I couldn't finish our meals and had to take half of it home. 11/10 will definitely come again!! Found my new go-to! read more

I enjoyed a late lunch today at El Bocho. The ambiance was very nice and staff were very friendly and made great recommendations. The Alambre on Fire with steak was very good and cheesy. I also added hot sauce and it was spicy. The tortillas and sides were also very good. Overall I loved my dish and would come back again. My drink was only so so. I had the lime margarita. I would probably order a different drink next time. Overall I am definitely coming back here again when I am craving Mexican. read more

Came here for dinner to celebrate our mum bday as Mexican is usually not on the lists of things to try but we wanted to be adventurous this time around. We started off with a couple of drinks: Pina Colada ($15)-comes in actual pineapple with a few slices of pineapple as well. The drink was nice and refreshing and smooth. - Bulldog (approx $15), Acapulco Vice ($13), Rum & Coke ($11). They do make their alcohol a bit stronger for those that enjoy that. Started off with apps/mains: Fried Calamari ($18)- Nice thick cut up ring size calamari fried and comes with some chipotle sauce like. Good calamari! Ceviche ($20)- Comes in blend of shrimp, tomato, onion, cucumber and chips. This was okay, not the best app to be honest. Queso Fundido ($20)- Melted cheese with bell peppers and shrimp and comes with tortilla wraps. Alambre on Fire ($25)- Melted cheese with chips and chorizo meat we asked for the side. Good tasty app on this one. Molcajete ($48)- Consists of chicken skewers, beef slices, cactus, corn, hot dog on a tomato base sauce like and comes with a few tortilla wrap. Macho Taco ($21)- 3x pcs of beef steak tacos with jalapeno cut in halves, onion ring of sort and a sauce blend i forget. Our appetizer sopes mexicanos was so good! It stared out well and went downhill from there. The server was very quiet and not to be mean but should not be a server even if she was nice. After appetizer we waited almost a half hour for our food. Menu was confusing if you dont know the dishes. Tacos and suiza were eh, tacos had no cheese or sauce, suiza were bland and sloppy presentation. Like they just laid slices of cheese on top, and the sauce looks like puke but it tasted okay. USE THE RESTROOM BEFORE YOU COME HERE. I had to when i was here and the mens room toilet was a baby toilet and they had SINGLE PLY TOLIET PAPER. Are you kidding me? This place is amazingggggg! I almost don't want to leave such an awesome review so it will remain my Richmond Hill's secret spot! Came here to celebrate my man friends birthday as its 5 mins from his place! My god they have one of the best Mexican food I've had in Toronto in a very long time! The fish taco was probably the best fish tacos I've ever had! It was light and not overly thick batter, it seemed like it was freshly floured and deep fried in a night light batter! The only criticism I had was the shrimp ceviche, which came in a huge bowl, but it had a slight fridge after taste! If only they have fish ceviche option it'd be even better! There were Little Rock shrimps and More tomatoes in it but worked out well as I added most of the ceviche on to my fish tacos! We also got the Alhambra on Fire, basically steak and cheese on hot skillet! It was delicious! I also got the mango margarita which tasted out of this world in a glass that I wanted to take home! Authentic Mexican food. Guacamole starter is the bomb. The live music on Saturday nites is great but too loud for conversation; sound level is more for dancing, which many do. In covid times when everyone can't dance together yet it would be great if they turned things down 6 to 12 decibels; that's the only reason I took off a star. The 3 piece mariachi band they had last nite was great (usually it's a solo act) but it was very loud. Dishes I've had include enchiladas and the chicken mole, which is very nice. Michelada beer cocktail is fun. It's sour and has lime and sesame seeds dashed around the rim. Great atmosphere and decor. Friendly staff! read more

A group of us were excited to try this restaurant out. Appetizers were excellent. However, three of us had quesadillas and they were not very good. We all agreed that they felt as if they had put them in the microwave. The shell was gummy instead of crispy. There was too much shredded chicken and cheese and hardly any vegetables in them. The one star is for the guacamole. Other than the guac, I'd honestly give this place zero stars if I could. The guacamole was really fresh and seasoned well. It came it a side of fresh homemade chips which I found a little greasy. My boyfriend ordered this and set up a cute picnic dinner for my birthday. Unfortunately, this restaurant was an extreme let down. Tacos: Bland. I don't know how else to describe it. The chicken looks and tastes like it boiled chicken breast. The steak was tough and also tasteless. They gave each order of tacos a whole half of a lime that was old and dry. Thank god for the guac cause I smeared that on my tacos to give it some flavour. They double up on the tortillas which made it harder to eat as it was very dry. If you can't tell, there's no sauce on the tacos. They didn't provide any hot sauce. Maybe they only provide hot sauce if you ask for it but that's hilarious cause even Taco Bell offers you hot sauce packets first before you even have to mention it. read more

To make absolute comparisons, I ordered the Chicken Chimichanga - my fav at Amigos. My bud ordered the Tacos. The tacos were double wrapped with decent amount of meats and a side salad. He was having issues as the tortillas were starting to fall apart. At this point, even the in-house fajita tortillas from Lone Star looked good. I think it needed more seasoning as he was dumping in hot sauce continuously. My Chimichanga fair not much better. There was plenty of chicken but that's about it inside. As many reviewers have stated, there seems to be a lack of flavour. The chicken tasted like chicken that was boiled with no broth. I was dumping hot sauce into every bite. Lucky I had a bucket of cervezas to help wash it all down. As mentioned, it looked tiny from the outside but once it, there are plenty of tables, benches, and booths. TV's line both walls and has the current sports playing. The staff is friendly and the place was nice to hang out. Unfortunately, decor can't be eaten...only enjoyed. As a restaurant, food is numero uno and they need to up the game. Saturday nights are live music nights and it was LIT. To the point I couldn't hear the conversation I was having haha The service was so friendly, they hoped me choose my dish. I can't even remember the dish name but it had three taco things covered in sauce and it was a damn delight! It tasted authentic and seasoned well. The margaritas we ordered tasted like a pre mix drink, almost like candy. I'm not in first year university so I did not enjoy the drink very much. 2022-11-05 If you're looking for some Mexican flair north of Toronto, then pop into El Bocho. We dropped-in around 1pm on a Saturday and was greeted with a friendly hostess. Only one other table was taken in the whole restaurant, but by the time we left, there was only a few tables left available. We came just before the rush! It was great to hear the staff speaking Spanish, so it bode well that the food would be authentic. And boy was it delish! There is only one other restaurant in Toronto that I'd recommend for Mexican cuisine, and this place would be the other one in the GTA. We ordered the Flautas Rancheras, Beef Chimichanga and the Chicken Burrito (2 adults, 1 teen) with the portions aplenty that we couldn't finish our meals. Not overly spicy with great flavours, and served at the right temperature. We obviously left room to order churros for dessert. Unfortunately, it was the only thing that fell flat...or hard, as was the case. We had to literally stab the 2 churros with force and was extremely crunchy. The ice cream and drizzle could not hide the fact that maybe they were not as freshly made. I would definitely still recommend this place because the main dishes we did taste were great! In fact, we were told there's live music on Friday and Saturday nights, but recommend reservations since it gets packed (+18 only). read more

I recently visited El Bocho for lunch. We ordered the sautéed calamari for appetizer and the carnitas tacos, beef burrito and the chicken quesadilla as our entrees. I was impressed with the portions. Wow. They do not disappoint. Everything was perfectly cooked and filled with flavours. It made me feel like as if I was in another place. I'm giving only four stars as the carnitas tacos could have used a little more seasoning and flavour, they were a little bland for my liking. Overall great restaurant, great food/drinks and wonderful customer service! Can't wait to come back to try some more :) read more

Three and a half stars. There really aren't many nearby Mexican restaurants in the area serving Baja tacos, so it does the trick if you're craving. The fish tacos were decent, but the food took a long time (15 mins after the order was supposed to be picked up). read more

TL;DR version: Place looks great. Warm service. Phenomenal for drinks and live music on Friday/Saturdays. Main dishes lacked flavour so not recommending the food. I really wanted to like this place and it was one of those rare times that the Yelp rating didn't reflect reality in my experience. I'll start with the good: - Great atmosphere and nicely designed interior. Live singer (Pablo) Fridays and Saturdays. - Very comfy crescent shaped booths. Just perfect seating arrangements overall. - Warm, attentive service. (restaurant was at 50% cap) - Plenty parking in the lot behind the restaurant. - Decent portions. (Not huge but can share if not too hungry) - Decently priced drinks. - Great guacamole and chips! Must order. - Tasty fresh Salad and Dressing. The bad unfortunately far outweighed the good and heavily contributed to my rating: - Food is simply BLAND! Actually it was shockingly bland! Chicken tasted like it was boiled and lacked flavour, almost like an airline chicken! Carnitas fared better but far from a great representation of the food... Taco shells looked and tasted like what you buy at any Mexican supermarket. No beans in the burrito?! And sprinklings of corn... It's really hard to screw up Mexican food but yet it's happened. So very disappointed with the food. Honestly there is only one problem with this place based on my visit and it's the lack of flavour in the food. It's unfortunately a big con when it comes to a restaurant though. The quality of the food is OK so it's not the ingredients, it's how it all comes together that leaves the dishes tasting bland. I probably would have rated the place a 3 just because of the effort put in to designing the place and paying attention to comfort of guests with comfy seats and warm service but I feel the aggregate score for this restaurant right now is misleading considering the bland, tasteless food. So I am awarding a rare 2 star to better influence the aggregate score. Lastly I'd still recommend this place for drinks and guacamole with chips, especially Friday's and Saturdays with live music. Came for a friends bday and was pleasantly surprised with the different live music, dancing, etc. Seems quite authentic and really enjoyed the lively atmosphere. The food was quite good and I ordered the carnita chimichanga which was deep fried. It was packed with flavour and even my hubby who got the enchiladas was good too. I haven't been here in several months and there are a couple of issues. The young lady who seemed to be covering the whole restaurant by herself was way over her head. She was frazzled! She tried to seat us at a high table, I'm 66 and the person I was with is 88, not a good idea. I ordered a caveche and it took 45 minutes to come. The shrimp were hot (this is a cold dish) but the rest of it was good. Another 20 mins went by and 1 order of enchiladas arrived. The other order was no where in sight. By this time more staff members arrived to help out. Our waitress finally came by to apologize as she put the second one for a different table. Again she was not concentrating on putting orders in properly. I understand that the kitchen was jammed but between a full house and take out the seated guests suffered. read more

New place, just opened recently, looks family owned, nice decor, and Reno. Soup was delicious, the refried been Appetizer with chorizo delicious, tacos could use something else, something missing. Chicken mole really really dry, the beans that came with that tasted burnt, but the first batch was excellent. Every thing seems really fresh!! Which is a plus. I made a bridal shower for my daughter in law to be last Wednesday night at El Bocho. It was a pleasure to deal with the owners Cameron and Gabriella. Everything went smoothly from start to finish. The drinks, food and service were wonderful and plentiful. From the delicious margaritas to the huge appetizer platters to the tasty mains to the yummy churros with ice cream for dessert.
