We had an event that just finished around 8pm or later. We would like to find something different to eat. This restaurant is high rating in Google around this area. The restaurant has a patio, and a lot of customers have drinks. We arrived around 8:30pm, and took a table at the patio. We were looking for the menu, but they don't serve paper menu anymore. There was a QR code on the table that we could scan to see the menu. However, our phone didn't show the menu, so we required the paper menu, they only have 1 or 2, so we have to wait. We finally got the menu, they looked good, but also expensive. It was hard to decide the dishes. We ordered an appetizer called Quesadilla and an Entress Amigos Platter. It took a while to come, two dishes came at the same time, and the restaurant would be closed in 45 mins. We tried the dishes, Quesadilla was all cheese inside with salsa on the side; Amigos Platter is including everything. There were a lot of cheese that we felt really full already. The outside from the street is so festive I was drawn to the restaurant! Once I walked in the beautiful music was playing at a background level that was very comfortable and authentic. The steak fajita was absolutely incredible and the baked burrito was large and taste amazing! The salad was so fresh with perfect dressing! The service could use some improvement. It seemed like the waitresses were on vacation and not very attentive! They should advertise for a Latina server would really complete this restaurant to be outstanding & truly authentic! We came for dinner on Friday, quite a while since we last ate here. The menu has expanded but unfortunately the quality of food has gone down, as with the cleanliness of the restaurant. The first booth we were sitted had rice all over the bench and the staff didnt understand me when i said that the seats were dirty; the 2nd booth akso had some rice on it and i had to clean them away myself. We ordered guacamole for starters, and for mains, chimichanga and enchiladas. The guacamole was just avocado, no signs of tomatoes, onions or lime juice. They changed the recipe for the chimichanga. Used to be fried but now it looked like it's cooked on a panini press. And to make our experience worse, when we were paying for the check, there was no option to choose a dollar amount for tips; minimum tip was 18%. Our total bill for 3 items was almost $90! Happy Cinco de Mayo! We really searched far and wide and found this super authentic Mexican restaurant which was actually so close to home! Not that I'm an expert in Mexican cuisine or anything but we did just recently visit Cancun, and these dishes definitely brought back memories of the trip! Due to it being a special occasion, when we got there, the restaurant was PACKED, but the owner was kind enough to find us a spot by the bar. Note to self: make reservations ahead of time if attempting to dine here or come early to avoid the dinner rush! I'm a sucker for Nachos so when I saw a gold star recommendation next to it on the menu, I knew I had to have it. I have absolutely no regrets We got steak fajitas as well, which came with a huge variety of accompaniments such as sauteed vegetables, rice, pico de gallo, guacamole, and refried beans. The corn tortillas served with these were still heavily corn flavoured but definitely lighter than the ones we had in Mexico which We also had to try the Birria Tacos which were fabulous! Used to come here a lot but unfortunately this is the end for me now that the old owners are gone. Drinks were badly done, bitter and quite frankly, one of the worst drinks I've ever had in my life . Margarita, pina colada, there was no sweetness at all. They remade one of the drinks and it was worse than the first one, even more bitter. I don't know what alcohol they were using, it was terrible. They got my order wrong, despite the fact that I spoke loudly and clearly bc I could see the server wasn't paying attention since her head kept turning away to look at something else. I wasn't the only one this happened to. I could hear the other tables around me politely telling them that their orders were incorrect as well. Had a family dinner at Mexican Amigos last weekend. Been here many times but this was the first visit in about 3-4 months. It seems like every time I go there the food keeps getting better. Went out for patio lunch today and service was a bit slow but the server was very nice. Appetizers: we started off with nachos and dip and wanted to try all the dips they offered. Pico de Gallo, guacamole, and the fried beans dip. All were very good and refreshing. The beans were on the spicy side but it was such a good combo. Enchiladas were nice and cheesy. I came to Mexican Amigos (naturally) expecting a Mexican restaurant. What I discovered instead, was a Mexican-themed bar. The place has a nice party feel to it. The walls are painted in bright colours. The TVs behind the bar are playing sports. The wait staff at Mexican Amigos are energetic, courteous and helpful. The bar offers a ton of fun drink options, including giant bulldog margaritas. If the mango bulldog is too sweet for your taste a splash of lime juice will take the sugar down the appropriate notch. Just ask the waiter. The food tasted like average bar food with a Mexican twist. Salty, greasy, and/or fried. The ground beef in the tacos felt particularly underwhelming. Mexican Amigos feels like someone smacked a sambrero on a firkin pub. I would return for drinks and the atmosphere. However, there are much better options for Mexican food. read more

Sometimes you have to go with the times and do an update to a oldie. Two years ago I wrote a review and it just doesn't make up for the fact that this place has thrived and grown. The menu is basically the same, the drinks are the same, the people are "not" the same, the crowd isn't the same either. The place has gotten consistently packed at nights. This has become the go to Mexican place for many people looking to satisfy their inner Chihuahua. I think their food has greatly improved since it opened. There were some big complaints back then. I wasn't even sure they were going to survive. It's good to see they overcame the early issues and have been a mainstay in Richmond Hill. The last time I was there, people were watching some boring MLS game followed up by a CFL game. Goes to show you that people are there for the food and drinks. Lots of beer in a bucket for sale. Been going to Mexican Amigo's with my friends for years! Always a great experience. Brought my partner for the first time and he really enjoyed it. Service was polite and quick and the food was soooo good. We had the steak fajitas and wet burrito and we couldn't decide which one we like better. I also had a classic Cesar and my partner had the Miami Vice. Both drinks were delish. Ambiance was chill because we went for a late lunch but in the evenings on the weekend they have live music which is always fun. I will continue to recommend this restaurant! The place is quite causal and plays Latin music, which gives a Mexican atmosphere to the restaurant. We got seated as soon as we were in the restaurant, as it wasn't very busy. However, the people behind us in line had to wait to be seated. After a few minutes, a waitress came to take our drink orders. As we were not ready yet, I ordered a hot water, which came quickly. Later, a different waitress came to take our food orders, at which point we also ordered drinks. Food came fairly quickly, as if they only had to warm and assemble the food. The drinks had been waiting on the bar since not long after they were ordered, but they took longer to arrive than the food, at which point my bottle was warm and the ice was melting. Later we were looking to order dessert, and I was trying to signal waitstaff for a while before a manager came over and took the order. FOOD - enchilada: not flavourful, had to add extra chipotle sauce to strengthen the flavour - steak tacos (bf's order): steaks were overcooked and little chewy, not flavourful - Oreo churros: some bits were burnt and too much sugar on top, but the actual churro dough was mediocre - Tequila Mockingbird (bf's order): as mentioned above, ice were melting which made his boozy drink watery - Jarrito Mango: warm... the glass of ice they gave was melting before we got it, making my Jarrito watery as well SERVICE - I HAVE HAD BETTER! - foods definitely not worth the price, I have had cheaper but better quality and service read more

The idea of Mexican food conjures up images of spicy tacos and saucy cheese laden dishes bursting with flavour. I'm happy to say Mexican Amigos does not disappoint. Now I'm not Mexican, but the food was amazing and tasted like a home cooked meal. The stuffed peppers were a real treat, as was the sample platter which gave us a cross section of popular options. The beer was crisp and fresh, and the hot sauce lived up to it's name. Even the service was warm, friendly and came with some great suggestions. Best of all, since we came on a friday night, there was live music. It was like being whisked away on a vacation for a night. I really like this place, and if you come here, I'm sure you will too. Went to this restaurant for dinner last night and had an absolutely terrible experience. After we ordered our food, the wait to receive our food took nearly an hour. Our server was not present throughout the night and we had to pull another server to ask about our food. The food was completely disappointing. They brought over the quesadillas with no sour cream, salsa or other dip and we had to wait another 15 minutes to receive some sauces. The quesadillas were bland and uninspiring. The burrito was covered in cheese and terribly greasy. The tacos had a sauce in it that ruined the flavour entirely. We were not impressed. The only part of our meal and experience that we enjoyed were the mojitos. I was excited to come try this place after a referral from a friend. The online reservation wouldn't allow bookings less than 24h in advance, and there was no answer when I tried calling. We arrived promptly at 6 pm and were delighted when we saw over a dozen empty booths and tables, but instead of seating us, we were told by the waitress everything was already reserved and we could only sit at the bar. Looking at the bar, it was already crammed with half a dozen other couples and there wasn't even room to fit 3 chairs. My husband was infuriated at how he we were being tested and we promptly left. It was a bit disappointing considering we drove over 40 minutes for dinner and were denied a table simply because we were a smaller party. There is no way of knowing if indeed all those tables were actually reserved but the decent thing to do and what most other restaurants do is at least permit the customers a choice to wait for the some of the other tables to turnover. I have this a 3 star rating because we never got to taste the food. Aside from food and service, because of construction on yonge street, access to the restaurant is difficult if heading north on yonge we the centre has been blocked off requiring you to do a U-turn at Elgin Mills and turn yourself around. read more

It's an interesting place, it's part Mexican restaurant with live Spanish music and part sports bar with 5 huge widescreen TVs over the long bar and many more around the wall and even single screens in some of the booths. The menu is single sided, simple and short. The staff are moderately capable, but for sure polite and trying to please. The place is tidy. The atmosphere was hustle and bustle, a little loud, and that's because the place was full with a lineup at the door. We did an after-work get together thing here and it was perfect for this type of event. The ambience is fun and relaxed. The food is good and reasonably priced. The service is friendly and attentive even for a larger group. As a bonus, they have live entertainment on Friday evenings. The singer/guitarist who performed on the evening we came was very good. We all had a really good time and agreed we would definitely go back. Menu suggestion: Although I didn't get the steak fajitas, three of our party did and were raving about it. In fact, one of the ladies ordered two more before we left to take home to her sons! The ingredients come in separate containers so you can put your fajita together just the way you like it.
