    Classic Tacos
    David Y.

This place is an absolute vibe, with its colourful decor, beautiful murals and fiesta energy. The food though was just ok for me. We got the tableside guacamole, chicken enchilada, classic tacos and side tater tots. And while everything tasted fine, the food just lacked the vibrancy of flavour to match the liveliness of the place. Seems to be very popular though so I'm likely the minority here.

Blanco Cantina located along Bloor St. W. near Dalton Rd is a Mexican spot in the Annex. It's actually a Canadian chain where most of their locations are out west (like Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon, etc.). This particular location of Blanco Cantina can hold a large group of people and they also have some great happy hour deals as well. The perfect spot for a get together or if you want some tacos, burritos, or nachos with a date. In no way is this authentic Mexican but more westernized Mexican food. Food wise, the menu has shareables (chips, wings, queso, guac, fries, etc.), soups/salads, classic or premium (think bulgogi steak, diablo shrimp, crispy cauliflour, etc.) tacos, burritos/wraps (which come with a side), fajitas, as well as some dessert items. I recently dined at Blanco Cantina with a large party. We did make reservations in advance for about 15 people, however, only about 10 people showed up. We occupied 2 tables and the restaurant allowed us to pay separately. Service was great as we arrived during happy hour in the afternoon. We were able order a second round of drinks as well as food around 5pm where the waiter honoured the happy hour pricing despite it being a few minutes past 5pm. As the night went on, our party dwindled down in numbers as people left and the waiters and staff never asked us to leave. For those who stayed till the end, we almost stayed till happy hour at 10pm. Despite the large party staff were organized and able to put in our orders as well as check up on us from time to time. They were a little slow with clearing the tables though. In terms of food/drink, I ordered the following items, taking advantage of their happy hour deal (from 2-5pm and then 10pm onwards - classic tacos were only $3.50 and margaritas were $7!): - Tableside guac (made to order, tableside - avocado, onion, tomato, cilantro, jalapeno, minced garlic and fresh lime) - Got this item for free as a promo on their website; when you sign up for the first time you get to have free guac which comes with chips as well. - Crispy fish taco (served with cabbage, onion, cilantro, and jalapeno) - Chicken tinga (served with cabbage, onion, cilantro, and jalapeno) - Baja shrimp (served with jalapeno ranch slaw, pico de gallo, and chipotle sauce) - Classic margarita (blanco tequila, triple sec, citrus, agave nectar, salt rim) - Watermelon margarita (watermelon tequila, triple sec, agave nectar, fresh watermelon, lime juice) - A shot of the 1800 coconut tequila ($5 special every day!) - 5oz of the pinot grigio Tacos were decent and I enjoyed the Baja shrimp taco the most out of all 3 tacos I got. In terms of the drinks, I enjoyed the classic margarita - can't go wrong with that! Overall, great space with good vibes and service. Happy hour deals are great and the food is good. A good choice for Mexican food in the Annex!

Very slow service, food wasn't great and took a long time to come out, no toilet paper in any of the bathroom stalls. Would not come back.

Great for lunches, especially during patio season when the third floor roof is open. At night, it's moody and dark, lit by candles on the table and the tvs at every corner with sports playing or generic videos. Dishes that I always get are the creole blackened chicken, avocado kale salad and truffle fries. The sunset soda is also a great, cheap and low calorie drink. Honorable food mentions are their featured (at the time) crab dip and the salmon aburi sushi.

It was a Sunday night , the day after Valentine's Day and it was packed. Good thing we had reservations. Despite how busy it was we were seated right away and our server Sarah was an absolute gem. Our drinks came out quickly and well made. They have a great wine list and we took advantage of it. So, ambience - check. Service - check. But it was the food that blew us away I started with the Wagyu carpaccio that emma's to die for. Just perfect with the crostinis. The my wife had the avocado bowl with salmon and I had the mushroom striploin. Both meals just freaking delicious- these folks have it down to a science and the food was off the charts. Some people may disagree because it's a chain restaurant but when they hit on all cylinders, which they have every time we've been there, it's awesome. Cactus Club - highly highly recommended. Ask for Sarah - she is amazing.

We booked…read morethe patio and the hostess double checked if we still wanted to be seated out there since the temperature cooled down a bit but we were fine sitting out there. It was even better because it wasn't an open patio but more like a room with huge open windows. The decor was very cute as well. We got to interact with many employees besides our server as some came to check on us, bring out dishes, or clear our plates. Everyone was so nice and made the experience even better. I saw the refrigerated meat wall displayed in the back and asked a manager if I could take a picture and he offered to take us inside so we could see it up close but our Lyft driver had just gotten there. Every interaction with each person we came across was positive. Our server, John was awesome. He took the time to explain to us the differences between the types of steaks since we were a little new to eating wagyu or kobe beef and wanted us to enjoy the food since we would be spending the money on it. He paid a lot of attention to detail which was super nice. He switched out our white napkins to black ones to match the dinner vibe, grabbed a mini stool for us to place our purses on beside the table so they wouldn't take up space on top or sit on the dirty floor, and came to check on us several times. We enjoyed everything we ordered. The cocktail and mocktail were perfect for each of us. The oysters were refreshing and the Caesar salad was perfect. The potatoes were so yummy! I'd describe it as a fancier deconstructed baked potato. Before cooking, the raw cut of the strip loin was brought out to us so we could see the marbling of it. Our steak was cooked to a perfect medium and didn't even need any extra sauces to supplement. There were a small number of pieces that were completely all fat that were hard to eat but overall the steak was enjoyable. We were waiting to ask our server for a dessert menu when a dessert dish was unexpectedly placed on our table with a "Welcome to Toronto" written on it. We had told John it was our first time in Toronto when we first sat down and this was a sweet surprise. It was their signature butter cake with white chocolate cream and caramel sauce. It was SO GOOD. Like I was scraping the bowl for the last pieces good. It was a perfect way to end the night. Overall, we really enjoyed the experience and would love to come back again the next time we are in Toronto. I would highly recommend this place for anyone visiting as they go above and beyond for their patrons and the food quality is amazing!

We walked up to an unassuming entrance that is part of the experience, and once inside, the atmosphere shifts completely. The space is intimate and cozy with dim lighting, comfortable seating, and a relaxed speakeasy vibe that makes it easy to settle in for a couple of drinks. The transition from the street to the interior feels deliberate, and the low-key energy of the room encourages lingering. The cocktail menu leans heavily into Asian-inspired flavors, and that is what makes it stand out. Every drink feels thoughtfully developed rather than relying on presentation alone. We tried the Cloudy Oolong, which was especially memorable with its rich tea flavor and creamy cheese foam that added a savory depth to the cocktail. The Strawberry Tetsu offered a dessert-like profile without becoming overly sweet, balancing fruit and tea notes in a way that felt refined and well composed. Each cocktail arrived beautifully presented and balanced, making it easy to appreciate the amount of care that goes into every glass. The menu is creative without being gimmicky, and the flavors are well integrated, with each drink offering something distinct. The staff were welcoming and happy to explain the menu or offer recommendations if you are unsure what to order. They guided us through the flavor profiles and offered thoughtful suggestions based on our preferences. Service felt attentive without being overbearing, and the overall pace made it a great place to relax rather than rush through a drink. The team checked in at the right moments and kept the experience feeling personal and unhurried. If you are looking for a cocktail bar that offers something different from the usual classics, After Seven delivers a memorable experience. Between the hidden entrance, intimate setting, and creative drinks, it is the kind of place that is easy to recommend whether you are celebrating a special occasion or simply looking for one of Toronto's more unique bars. The balance of atmosphere, craftsmanship, and service makes it a standout in the city's cocktail scene.

The room is small, intentional, and lovely: intimate seating, a sculptural emerald bar, and an atmosphere drawn from the Japanese cocktail tradition. The aesthetic is precise without being cold, and the candle-warm lighting encourages exactly the kind of unhurried conversation that a well-made cocktail deserves. But the bartenders are the true heart of the place. On the evening of my visit, the two behind the bar moved with a remarkable synchrony -- finishing each other's thoughts, trading warmth and wit in equal measure, drawing guests effortlessly into the orbit of their easy rapport. It is the kind of hospitality that cannot be trained into existence; it is either present or it isn't, and here it is very much present. The cocktail menu is East Asian in its inspiration and genuinely inventive in its execution.

Perched high above the bustle of downtown Toronto, LOUIX LOUIS makes a compelling first impression…read more The dining room is genuinely handsome -- a study in polished Art Deco glamour softened by sweeping city views that lend every table a sense of occasion. On a Valentine's Day brunch visit, the atmosphere alone was enough to justify the reservation. The kitchen demonstrates genuine competence: dishes arrive with care, the pacing is unhurried, and the mise en scène -- from tableside presentation to that now-famous thirteen-layer chocolate cake -- reveals an establishment that understands the theatre of fine dining. That towering slice of chocolate cake, in particular, is a masterstroke of marketing and pastry craft in equal measure; it draws the eye, earns its reputation, and very nearly steals the show. Where LOUIX LOUIS gives one pause is in the cuisine's ability to fully match its surroundings. The cooking is accomplished and reliably pleasant, yet seldom rises to the level of genuine distinction one might hope for at this price point. Dishes satisfy without surprising; technique is evident but inspiration, at moments, feels held in reserve. For the corporate traveller or the visitor seeking a polished, geographically convenient showcase of the city's skyline, this represents an entirely sound choice. For those seeking an experience whose flavours linger as long as the view, the kitchen has room yet to grow into its magnificent stage. Service is attentive and well-intentioned, though it can occasionally want for the depth of knowledge that elevates a good meal into a memorable one. LOUIX LOUIS is, in sum, a very good restaurant striving -- not quite yet arriving -- at greatness. The bones are exceptional; one hopes the culinary vision will, in time, catch up with them.
