It's the 99. or Ninety Nine. Same no matter which one you go to. Nothing fancy just solid American food. I got the Louisiana steak. Nice spices cook medium rare the way I like it. They didn't have any baked potatoes but I wasn't heart broken. Mashed is fine. Good Food, Inattentive Service I hadn't planned on doing a review, but I changed my mind after feeling neglected by our bartenders/waiters. The restaurant was crowded this Tuesday evening around 6 p.m., so we found the last two seats at the bar to eliminate a fifteen minute wait. We were greeted within a reasonable time, and the two bartenders/waiters gave us time to decide. My wife ordered a strawberry lemonade which she liked. After placing our order, it took about ten minutesI to get the waiter's attention to get some popcorn to nibble while we waited for our dinner (shouldn't have to ask). Her entree was the shrimp bowl and I ordered the grilled pork ribeye steak. Both were tasty. The waiter who delivered our dishes sort of just plopped them down and said nothing, such as, "Is there anything else I can get for you"? I would have liked butter, salt, and pepper for my broccoli and more marmalade for my pork. Neither waiter ever returned to ask how things were or if we needed anything. About ten minutes after finishing our dinner, I finally had to get the waiter's attention again to get our bill. He promptly delivered it, and then asked if we wanted dessert or coffee (a bit late, I might say!) This same waiter was very sociable with the couple seated next to us and spent plenty of time chatting them up, but gave no attention to us---not good service as far as I'm concerned. It's a perfect family-friendly place! Although it may not have the fanciest food, my family and I enjoy it a couple of times a month! You can call ahead on busy weekend evenings to put your name on the seating list and save yourself the wait when you get there. Keep the kids busy with coloring and their yummy popcorn. They also have a healthy entree section for food under 500 (or something like that) calories! Overall the food there is good for a chain restaurant. We enjoy coming here! read more

I really like the food, love Nate the bartender... DO NOT agree with kids sitting at the bar. Apparently the 99's policy is that, 'it's a family oriented restaurant".. that's great, but...No child should sit at a bar! Period! It's a bar! Other customers shouldn't have to sensor themselves or worry about a child sitting there. Honestly the worst experience I have ever had at a 99. First, my sister and I ordered the gold fever wings, and buffalo wings came to the table. Next, my burger was completely raw! Not rare... raw. Our server didn't even offer to cook it more, bring another or take it off the bill. 1 star just for the pure fact that the hostess was beyond ignorant. Today I walked in with my family and she didn't greet us, just asked how many we had and handed us a buzzer not saying a word. Were not told a wait time, etc. I work as a hostess and know that it is our job to make the guests feel welcomed and she did the exact opposite. OK. So typically I don't hold chains to a high standard given previous experiences. I was given a $50 gift card this past Christmas and decided why not. So, my girlfriend and I went in and ordered some food. Started with potato skins and then ordered Buffalo tenders and a Smokehouse Burger. Ordered my burger RARE and it came out WELL DONE. I sent it back...Next burger comes out...WELL DONE yet again. During all of this, no manager ever came over or nothing and when we got the bill the server said he had "them" take the burger off. We paid...We left. Now...Fast forward to yesterday. We went in again. Stood at the host stand for about 5 minutes before anyone came out to seat us. We were brought to our table where we waited about 10 minutes before our server even came over to us. We ordered again...Same stuff as last time. Guess what...My burger that I ordered RARE was WELL DONE yet again. I sent it back...And sure enough...The second one was even more overcooked. For for the love of all things burgers...How the hell can you let this happen?!?! The manager came over after she was informed my food was messed up twice and said she was taking the burger off the bill and that "it was on her"...No offers were made to fix the issue...No other food was offered, dessert...nothing. This is the exact reason why I despise chain restaurants. Came to meet my aunt for a drink after work tonight and couldn't believe my eyes. When I walked in, the waiting area was packed with parties waiting to be seated at a table. The bar was full, when I joined my Aunt I realized there was no seat for me, it was packed. There we two seats in particular I noticed that had young children sitting in! Parents brought their young daughters and the staff actually let them sit there. Not only was I annoyed that I had come from a busy day at work to unwind, I had to sit at the bar with two children under 10 and to boot, my aunt gave up her seat for me because I had worked all day on my feet. Adults, at a bar were standing and waiting for seats because this family of 4 decided they could pretend they were at Friendly's, like they belonged!! Ordered a cup of chili, she brought me a bowl and said the kitchen screwed up. Took her almost 10 minutes to notice I even got there, 20 had gone by and we never received a second round of beers we had asked for. We were irritated and wanted to leave at that point. Never again! Who brings their kid(s) to a bar? And who let's them sit there? Really? During the World Series? Outta your minds. read more

Been going there for years. Lately it has gone way downhill. Last trip got a burger and received it raw. Not rare, raw. Time before that ordered the boneless chicken wings appetizer and they tasted either like they had freezer burn or were bad. My husband and I used to come here once a week for the longest time. The past two times have been the worst experiences ever. The first time was it took someone to come to our table, and it was quiet in the restaurant. Waiters and waitresses were walking by us and paid us no mind. I finally hunted one down, and she was huffy and puffy. It took her 10 minutes to bring over our water. Once she gave it to us and she walked away. I said Excuse me, but we would like to order apps and her response was "what do you want". told her what we wanted and she went to enter it in the computer. Twenty minutes later- still no apps. So I flagged her down and asked where they were. She forgot to put our order in. Finally another 15 minutes later she bought them over. Before she has the chance to walk away I asked for the check. She didn't respond as she walked away. Our apps were cold, but we did not say anything, we wanted to get out of there ASAP. We got our check as we were finishing our apps. And I have NEVER done this before but I did not leave her a tip- paid the EXACT amount of what the check was. We decided to give it another shot two weeks later, considering that was our only bad experience in the three years we have been going. We should've NEVER GONE BACK!! When I think of the 99 I think of the movie with John Candy where he takes his family on a vacation and can't get into the fancy lobster restaurant and they end up eating at a gross place where the guy serves them frozen seafood from a box. Well I thought that's what I was in for when I ate there last night. We had a wonderful server, "Mindy" who works on Tuesday nights at the bar, who told us of the wonderful deals on the menu. I had my heart set for the steak and shrimp special for $9.99 which I have to say is the BEST deal and really SOO good. I decided to try the lobster roll which had been reduced from $16.99 to $14.99. I'm a COMPLETE seafood snob when it comes to lobster rolls especially, but to my delight, this thing was WAY better than I ever expected to get ANYWHERE for the price, let alone the 99. The food came quickly on a DELICIOUS grilled roll with lobster heaping out of it. It had very little mayo, shredded lettuce, and a tiny bit of celery. It was truly worth every penny. It came with delicious french fries that tasted like they sprinkled garlic salt on, and a nice amount of coleslaw. Without breaking the bank I had this, my husband got the steak and shrimp combo with an add on of $3.00 on his which included a romaine salad with asiago cheese dressing, lots of veggies, as well as a dessert (half bites I think they call them, PLENTY with all we got, believe me!) We both got tastes of each others delicious meals. We got their Sam Adams Summer Ale (on tap) and it came to under $50.00. What a deal for steak, shrimp and a humungous lobster roll with drinks. This was dinner which is something that is generally more money than lunch. I highly recommend going to the 99 in Danvers. Normally I would have given at least a 4 star, but tonight, though staff was efficient, the young lady taking our order, should have asked which fresh salmon dish my husband requested. When the plate came, the portion of salmon was something more of the size you would put between a hamburger bun! When she came by and asked how things were, I stated it was the smallest piece of salmon I ever saw on a plate. She then talked about the "fit salmon" and how it is supposed to be that size, blah blah blah. I said we did not order the "fit salmon" and she stated all the fit salmon is like that. Hmmmm, does she know her menu? If she did, she would have asked which fresh salmon dish he was asking for. We never mentioned "fit" when ordering. Be careful, maybe point to the item so the server will know. It could have been nice to have her acknowledge the mistake but she didn't. I gave hubby portions from my fish and chip plate to make up for the lack of substance on his plate! Just disappointed but thankfully the food was very good as well as the beverage. read more
