I've dined at this restaurant 6 times in the past 12 months. It's located in my hometown and I do my very best to support local small business. That's why I have made 6 attempts here. If I based my first experience on future visits, there would not have been 5 more tries. Here's my opinion of 900 degrees. Food- it's good. Tried the pizza, salads, salmon, rice balls, cappuccino and a few other dishes. All were very good and a fair value for the money. Service- needs improvement - Mr. Owner, here is where you need to turn your focus. If the kitchen is off one night, I can deal with it, that happens sometimes.... But consistently poor service is unacceptable. My first experience in your restaurant was horrible and uncomfortable. I felt like an outsider to your club. The server had no idea what he was doing, it was obvious that he was not trained or even showed interest in the job he was doing or us as a customer. As we were leaving you happened to be standing next to me and asked how was everything. My response was it could be better. Your response was "Was it the service", and I said yes. You kind of shrugged and that was that. After that experience, I waited 5 months to return to see if anything had improved. Again, I'm trying to support the local independent. My follow up visits were still a bit challenging with respect to service. Finally the last visit, last weekend, was better. I wish I could remember the servers name so I could call ahead to see if he is working. He did a great job, however, the other servers were still terrible. I don't know the history of his restaurant. But it appears by the lack of professionalism and clumsy unprofessional service by both the owner and waitstaff that this must be their first rodeo. I really want this restaurant to survive. So my suggestion is to go to the outside and either hire a consultant or hire professional waitstaff, or both! So, the food and value is good. If you're not hyper focused on service, then you should give this place a try. I'll give it another try in 2 months. read more

I honestly wanted this place to be a great new neighborhood gem, but it's far from it. In the beginning the place was ok... Pricey but the pizza was cooked perfectly. The buffalo pie was awesome!! Cooked and mastered to perfection. Now they just destroyed the whole concept of a 900 degree oven. Anyone with knowledge about this oven knows that the pizza only cooks for a few minutes and the crust is supposed to be blistering and bubbled with some charring. Sad to say, but the pizza at a local pizzeria tastes better. Want REAL authentic fire/coal oven pizza!? Then try Coney Island Pizzeria in Riverdale. Much cheaper and tastes like the real deal. My husband and I were trying to familiarize ourselves with the Montville / Towaco area. So we went to Yelp and found 900 Degrees. We went in for dinner on a Saturday night. They offered us a table in the dining room, then we noticed the window and that they offered outside seating. We asked to sit outside instead. The outdoor seating area is plentiful and lovely. The restaurant is BYOB, so we brought a bottle of wine which the waiter opened and poured for us. There are so many options listed on the menu that it was hard to choose. There were four of us, so we decided to split one appetizer and two pizzas. We started with the Baked Meatballs over Ricotta. The dish contained 3 large meatballs which were delicious. I highly recommend this hot appetizer. For pizza, we ordered the Margherita and Pesto pies. They were cooked to perfection. Both had wonderful flavor and crispy crust, but the Pesto Pizza really stood out for me. This was the perfect amount of food for the 4 of us. We figured if we needed more we'd order it afterwards. I would have loved to try the Nutella Pizza, but I was stuffed. Overall, the food was great, but the service was a bit lacking. Our waiter forgot which pizzas we ordered and came to ask us our order again, so I think that delayed the food a bit. Plus they only had one waiter for the whole outdoor area and I think he was a bit overwhelmed. If the service were to improve, this restaurant has the potential to be 5 stars. read more

Just dined here with our friends. As this was our first visit, we used a Restaurant.com credit. Overall, the decor and wait staff were very pleasant and attentive. We found the food to be on the expensive side. One specialty pizza and three entrees with three desserts was nearly $100. I found that expensive for overall simple foods. I will note that hot foods should be served on warm/ hot plates. My wife ordered a dish made with a cream sauce. The sauce got cold very fast since the plates were cold. So the meal becomes unpleasant quickly. The kitchen needs to work on their timing and include the pizza guys. I received my pizza first, then about 8 mins later two entrees came out, then a few mins later, the final entree arrived. This was at 530pm on a Sunday and it wasn't busy at all. So if you're OK with waiting for everyone to get their foods at different times, then this is the place for you. Our group agreed that we won't be returning. read more

This is a convenient and tasty place for take out. Yes, it's a little more pricey than the average pizza place but, your pie is made with fresh gourmet ingredients and is not sopped in oil. They are usually very friendly and they stayed open late one night when we ordered take out right at closing time. We've had over twenty pies since they opened and we continue to go back. The food is above average and if you don't like something, they are more than happy to accommodate the customer. I did enjoy the food I got there yesterday but the wait for everything was so long. I am glad we were just hanging out and not in a rush to go anywhere. It was very crowded so I will blame it on that. the waitors didn't circulate enough around the resturant in my opinion. Really wonderful dinner. So much better than when we went a couple of months ago. The Calamari was perfect - really delicious. My husband loved the mussels - they are spicy (a little too spicy for me, but if you like hot, they are the way to go.) Meatballs were really good and my little one practically inhaled then. I had heard really good things about this place, and being so picky with my pizza I was hesitant to give it a try, but let me say I am so happy I did! This place has a cozy feel, nice enough for a date night but casual enough for any occasion. It's BYOB, and when i walked in pretty much every table had wine. We started with the 900 degrees mussels- in a spicy tomato cream sauce with chorizo, they were incredible! I was basically drinking the sauce lol. Next we had 3 pizzas for entree, the short rib pie, the margherita, and the BBQ chicken pizza. The margherita pie was classic- simple but done right. Crispy but light crust with the perfect ratio of chewy and crunchy. The BBQ chicken pizza really stood out to me, because i usually dislike BBQ sauce, but after one slice of this pie I had 2 more! The real star of the show was the short rib pie- this one was to die for good! the best by far. Going to stop boring you with this long review but the nutella pizza for dessert is also a must try!! Service was very fast and friendly, this place does get packed on weekends though & their seating is first-come-first-serve, so be aware of that. Definitely some of the best pizza I've had in NJ! I told them both girls several times please no pork and my pasta I am Muslim and I don't eat pork for religious reasons. I got there and waited 20 minutes for my food. when I went to the register to finally pay for my food there was a very rude man working at the register I asked him nicely to make sure that my food once again the pasta did not have prosciutto. he looked at me and laughed and said I know there isn't any because I packed your order I paid for my order $26 for chicken Parm and walked out. This food was going to be my sons dinner. I get to my car and I figured because I live in Mountain Lakes I should just check the food before I leave. I was so disappointed to see that my food was covered in prosciutto. I walked back into the restaurant and I told the man. I asked you to check my food and he told me why are you mad at me I didn't make it. I asked to speak to a manager because at this point I was so disappointed this was an hour later. I wasted my time waiting for the food I got charged for prosciutto I told him several times kindly no pork. Then I asked to speak to the manager they called him on the phone and told me that I can't talk to him because he's driving even though they were talking to him in front of me. they said to me "if you want you can wait 30 minutes for him to come back and close up the restaurant " ?? What! I couldn't believe that answer. I just spent over an hour and now I'm gonna wait 30 minutes for a manager. They wouldn't give me the managers number either they gave me the restaurant's business card to call back for a manager. Even though I already had a number because I'm the one who called and placed the order. I waited 30 minutes and called back 15 times and they won't answer the phone terrible business terrible terrible terrible do not go. Save yourself the trouble. This was a great place when they first opened but lately it has gone downhill. The food is still mostly great but the service and atmosphere are terrible. Our last visit we were jammed in like sardines in a can. Way too many tables crammed into the space. This leads to problems like the waitstaff can't navigate properly and they are constantly banging into your chairs or leaning over you. Since they are so busy our food came out at different times, 2 appetizers came out and about 5 minutes later the other 2 were brought out. Same for entries, 3 were delivered and 1 came a good 7-8 minutes later. Never once did anyone ask if we wanted refills of our sodas or stop by with water. We ordered the pulled pork pizza by mistake ( or so we were told) and tried to eat it but the BBQ sauce was overpowering and made the pie not enjoyable. The waitress did offer to make the pizza we thought we ordered but everyone would have been done with their meals by the time we got it. I think you need to get back to basics and and handle a smaller number tables perfectly instead of trying to pack in too many tables and have them not receive the best service. read more

Went there Friday night for a girls night out. We ordered among other appys, the hot pepper sausage and potatoes appetizer. The sausages were burnt to a crisp and you could crack them with your fingers and the potatoes were crispy and hollow...clearly way over cooked. Showed it to the waitress who couldn't have been any nicer and offered to replace the order. She came back with the dish minus all the hot peppers. When asked why she said that her boss asked her to leave the hot peppers out since they were not the issue. Horrific customer service. We spent good money there and peppers are not that pricey that the owner decided to leave them out of the replacement order. If your looking for upscale pizza and a nice BYOB environment you can consider 900 degrees. The pies are either 10 or 12 inch bar pies that run about $15 each. The pizza was good, not like Sorrentina in North Bergen or Brooklyn Pizza in Edgewater, but those are the best in NJ. We also tried the meatball n ricotta appetizer and the meatballs were cold which was to bad. I should have known that this kind of app isn't made to order and selected something different so that's my bad. Nice wait staff and good service, so kudos there. By the way, "aj" from pequonock. Post a picture of yourself and when you give every restaurant 1 n 2 stars you lose street cred. ( but 4 stars for chick-fil-a???) Tell us where your a chef so we can try your food. What a cute little place! The pictures make the restaurant look a lot bigger but the food is to die for. Our server, Alim, was an absolute joy. He was charismatic, fun and very prompt on service. We ordered the burrata as an appetizer and that was just ok (not the best we've ever had) but the 3 meatball appetizer was something to write home about. My family and I then ordered 3 pizzas for dinner: the burrata (5 stars), the clam one (another 5 stars), and the pesto (another 5 stars). All came out piping hot and were enough to split between 2 people if you were to share. We then ordered the cannoli pie for dessert and we are still talking about how delicious it was a week later!
