Maybe I'm spoiled from moving here from the NYC area. When you walk into the place--the setup is really nice. Looks like a nice place to grab a sophisticated meal and drinks. We came in on a Saturday night. FYI-kitchen closes by 9:30, so you have to put your orders in quick. There's an outdoor area that looks cool, but most patrons appeared college aged or so. And it turns somewhat nightclub-ish after 9 pm. We felt somewhat old, even though we're just in our late 30s. We sat in the patio area which is in its own section away from the streets of Doylestown. The ambience of the restaurant is pleasant and relaxed. There is happy hour between 4-6 pm so you can get half off the drink specials. The drinks are very good. We ordered three dishes to share. We got the small plate Mac and cheese which was okay but needed seasoning. It was difficult to notice the different cheeses in the dish. We enjoyed the chicken lettuce wraps and the pepperoni flatbread. Flatbread was a good portion size and it was my favorite among the three dishes. Service was great as well. read more

Nothing knocked my socks off and at times service was slow at times and a bit scattered. Two of us weren't given soy sauce or chopsticks for the sushi. I would give this place a 3.5 mainly because of the food. The ambiance is very nice for girls night or date night. The outdoor seating area is very cute too! However, the food needs some flavor especially the mushroom truffle flatbread. We started off with the fried cauliflower which was decent with the aioli. We had 3 rolls of specialty sushi next (Black Widow, Lobster Blast and the last one has Crunchin in its name) and they were yummy. The sushi wait was 45 mins but we were told this in advance. Finally got to try this place! It has really cute outdoor seating area and indoors it has a bar with a few TVs for games. The mushroom truffle pizza was so good. I also got one of the special tuna rolls and it was really good. They also had a great watermelon margarita. Would definitely come back to try some other sushis or the salads. We came here with our parents last November while touring homes and it was the best meal and best restaurant experience we've had in years. We still think and talk about it. I'm very surprised to see some of the reviews that read like they were written by graduates of the Karen Academy. Management responds to every single one of them seeking rectification. Have lived near this spot for years and heard nothing but good things about this place. Kept putting off coming here though because of the reputation for being expensive Finally put together a night with a bunch of friends and family to try it out and was super disappointed. To start, everything was massively overpriced for the quality of the food. The sushi and other menu itmes were mediocre at best, not worth even half of what they were priced at The fries for instance were actual macdonalds fries. I dont know if they simply have the same supplier or if they bought them there and reheated them in the restaurant but that alone was a big red flag The drinks were of college dorm quality at best and were served in exclusively regular drink glasses I suspect mold in the ice maker or dirty glassware or something along those lines also as the water and ice had an awful off putting flavor to them There are plenty of sushi places in the area that serve better quality sushi for nearly half the price. After years and years of eating sushi not once have I ever found an actual bone in it. This was a first. After nearly chipping my tooth on it, I realized that not only was it a bone, but it was very questionably even a fish bone as it was far to thick and rigid to be like most fish bones When I brought it up to the server, I was told I could get a free dessert item because of the bone. I didnt want dessert but the server insisted so I caved and picked one out anyway. Would have meant a lot to at least have not been charged on that sushi. But apparently in their eyes a "free" $7 dessert that they probably needed to get rid of before it expired more than makes up for the $22 worth of boney sushi To cap it all off. They had grocery store bought kikoman soy sauce bottles on the table for the sushi. A minor detail, but given the price of the food and everything else I certainly expected better As for the positives? Sorry this place doesn't cut it for sushi. The rolls were tasteless and had strange combinations that are more in the style of "Japanese-style" and less authentic. So for example a shrimp tempura roll is rolled with cucumber--not complimentary flavors. Moreover they aren't a very family friendly place. When I have to change my baby's diaper on the dirty floor and then have to wait waaay too long for the server to bring me my check while my baby starts to throw a tantrum...I kind of want to shout. But our server was very pleasant and professional. The meal was super (overly) spicy hot this time, we've ordered those Tai noodles several times. Also, the last time we were here the California roll wasn't up to par. Maybe the chef is new and just learning the menu. But the vibe is still excellent, and the desserts are still the best in town. Seeing as the restaurant was deserted, I asked to move to a regular table and was denied. Ugh. Apparently to get the discounted food, you have to sit at the rowdy and crowded bar. This was an annoying technicality and we agreed to pay for full price food to have table service. I ordered a Founders IPA, which was decent; however the beer selection was relatively limited with 6 choices on tap. For the food, I split the boneless wings and fish and chips. The wings were a-okay with a decent amount of spiciness. The fish and chips were terrible. The frozen fish was saturated, stale and greasy and the fries also tasted off. The piece I tried was grey and scaly and repulsive. I pointed this out to the waitstaff and she shrugged and agreed that it was nasty - but no comp or free dessert. We are at 86 on Friday night. Shane was our server and he was terrific. Well, if you want the best scollops, prepared perfectly, this is your answer! The sea scollops are the size of a small filet with the perfect caramelized sear. We also had the duck which was served on a bed of cauliflower and it was great. We were pleasantly surprised on how big the restaurant was, and on a Monday night, not busy at all so we were able to sit in the back of the restaurant almost in our own private area. The food was amazing and I'm going to be honest, I wasn't expecting the sushi to be any good mainly because most places I've tried in the past (if not all) when they have a menu this big and they include sushi, it turns out to be a disaster, so after reading some of the reviews we weren't expecting much but boy we were wrong! Solid dinner. Maybe a bit closer to 3.5 stars. I think they had an off night. Wife and I both had a cocktail and steamed edamame to start. We got them right out of the steamer. Piping hot and coated in a really good coarse salt. I had the Impossible Burger. I've been wanting to try this veggie burger, as it is said to have the consistency of meat alas well as the flavor of beef. It also has a unique feature of beat juice added to the burger so that you can have a juicy veggie burger. Unfortunately, it was over cooked to the point of losing that feature. (I asked the waitress to tell the chef to be aware of that). It was served with a tomato relish, lettuce and cheese on a potato roll. The potato roll was dry - how can a potato roll be dry?(also told the server and she said the chef knows -why serve it??). That being said, it almost lived up to the description. Flavor and consistency of a beef burger. I'll order one again! They offer the choice of soup, salad, chips or fries. I got the FF. Shoestring and perfectly crispy. Wife had a portabella cheesesteak with cheddar and spinach on a very soft hoagie roll with a nice crunch on the outside. It was very flavorful and seasoned well. I will be back for that. Wife chose side of soup which was chicken tortilla and she said it was fantastic. We are not vegetarians, but sometimes eat that way so we appreciate restaurants that offer these healthy options. After getting our food, waitress admitted she forgot to enter provolone instead of Swiss on my wifes sandwich. Frustrating, but understandable. Half of us were ready to order drinks, while the other half of us were not. I told the server that I was sorry that I am just not ready and needed a few more minutes. We ordered brussel sprouts, a sushi roll (black widow maybe?), chips with salsa and guac, filet sliders and a steak dinner. First the chips came out without the salsa. When we told the food runner this, she quickly came back with a small serving. Think of those small dishes they give you for sauce. We were told the sushi chefs were backed up so the sushi would take time. Between appetizer and entree, we never saw the server. Our food came and she finally appeared. We ordered a second round of drinks. The Brussels, sushi and steak entree were great. The filet sliders however were awful. They were unbelievably tough. I couldn't bite into it. I had to cut it in order to eat it. Fries were cold. We had the rice pudding for dessert and it was simply disgusting. The rice was hard. It was bland. A few friends and I stopped in for drinks on a Friday in December. The interior is very well decorated and when its warm their outside patio is awesome. I had always wanted to try their sushi and I did get a chance to have indulge on this trip. I was pleasantly surprised at how GOOD it was! I'm a bit of a sushi snob but the two rolls we ordered were top notch. I will have to come back and try the Sashimi because that's the only real way to judge how good the fish is. The bartenders were all very good EXCEPT for one. Our group was sitting at a table in the bar area and knocked (2) glasses off of the table. It was a mistake and no one was intoxicated. Very strange experience. Were in town visiting family and decided to stop by for some drinks and food. A guy at the end of the bar introduces himself as the owner, then asks where we are from. We explain that we are originally from the area but now live in California. He then proceeds to go on a diatribe telling us how much he dislikes the state of California and its residents because they are "liberal". Given the current political divide plaguing the U.S., it is very strange that an owner of a restaurant would think it's a good idea to insult guests and share his odd views. The food is good but the service is not worth it. Bartenders can never make drink you order, half of the things you want to eat are already sold out, or not on the menu anymore. I used to go here a lot with my friends for drinks and apps after work but we stopped coming because the service was so horrible. The bartenders outside are ALWAYS so rude and once told us "if you don't like it, go somewhere else"... so we started going to chambers (great food, awesome people). Awesome spot! Last minute idea for a dinner with colleagues, we were seated instantly when we arrived in their back dining room by the sushi bar. Veronica our server was very attentive and offered great choices for us. We sat for a while with wine and sushi, we tried the spicy crab, the lobster roll, and a spicy tuna, all were DELICIOUS. They know their way around sushi here, do not sleep on this menu. We also tried the cauliflower appetizer which was really flavorful and did not lack on the sauce and toppings to go along with it. My friend ordered scallops that was good. My wife ordered fish and chips that was nothing to write home about. Slowly getting back to "normal" we wanted to head back to one of my old faves in Doylestown - 86 West. Just as wonderful as it was when I lived nearby, I don't see any downturn in quality or service like some of these recent reviews indicate - in fact, I think 86 West has taken certain things up a notch. I see some new items on the menu, and lots of my old favorites as well. The pandemic has not been kind to local restaurants, but I feel like 86 West has taken it all in stride. I'm sure staffing is hard right now, so perhaps the negative folks might choose to eat at off-peak times for now. I think the place was more than adequately staffed, for the record. Everyone was very friendly, service was great... in fact, I'm not really sure how the kitchen got our small plates out to us so quickly - as they approached, I recall thinking that there was no way they were ours. Food was piping hot and absolutely delicious... the Kung Fu Cauliflower was great - perfectly seasoned, and cooked juuuuuuuust right. The mac and cheese bites are a little something special - the pepper jack cheese is the thing here. They're not your average cheesy snack bite... and not at all too spicy either.
