I had lunch at Farmhouse Tavern on Friday when I was in Doylestown for a day. It couldn't be a more classic tavern if it tried. Really comfortable and cozy inside. I sat at a high top table by the bar, but there's also seating at the bar and seating in a small dining area. The service was great. And I really enjoyed my burger (cooked medium rare, it was juicy and delicious) and my beer (a Smithwick's on tap). My only teeny tiny complaint is that the mushrooms and grilled onions on my burgers were cold, and I wish they'd been warmed up on the grill before going onto the burger - it might have been perfect then! Overall, a great tavern lunch. I'd happily go back for another burger and beer! Or fish and chips! Or anything else! read more

We were unexpectedly in Doylestown and traffic conditions dictated EAT LOCAL but then again we should all EAT LOCAL more often than we do. So, following the lead of my fellow YELPERS we headed over to the FARMHOUSE TAVERN, which has been in business for 70 years. I have to admit I was surprised that this is more of a pub than I expected ... their website implied a much larger restaurant with a quality bar area but it was the opposite. However first looks revealed a good local crowd around the bar enjoying each other's company but this was definitely not going to be an evening of eloquent dining. We were greeted with smiles .... always a good sign and led to a rather small dining area, which is where we checked out the menu and specials. A nice selection of regional beers was shown on the menu (A real plus because I hate having to pay attention as the server recites a list especially with my bad hearing. The menu had an Irish feel to it but was a nice blend of choices. The Clams Casino Soup was just so tempting that we ordered a cup to share. The bacon wrapped meatloaf caught my eye and both women chosee the Dubliner Chicken sandwich. Temptation proved so right ... the soup was AWESOME and they even were wise enough to serve it with oyster crackers rather than saltines. It was so good that all of us were googling recipes for clams casino soup to make at home. Truly a great starter!! Now, it may have been some time since I have had really great french fries but thank goodness one of the ladies at the table chose the fries rather than a salad with their sandwich. These may have been the most perfect french fries I have ever had ... we pushed the ketchup bottle aside and there were more than enough french fries to share between the three of us. Crisp on the outside, fluffy inside, just the right touch of salt and no oil residue. SO SO GOOD!!! The chicken sandwiches were oustanding with the chicken breast going far beyond the borders of the roll. Now, the only disappointment ... when you see bacon on a menu you expect a crisp delight. I had thoughts of a nice bacon texture with the slices wrapped around the meatloaf but most of the bacon was uh ... flabby and I peeled it off. The meatloaf was decent not great (Would order a sandwich with fries next time.) and the mashed were too creamy for my liking but its negatives were not enough to take away from the five stars and the happiness we shared at THE FARMHOUSE! read more

Great drinks and food. This was a fantastic choice. The extra crispy wings were wonderfully messy and the lunches were excellent. The prickly pear margaritas were amazing and the mocktail version was perfect for our kids. They don't skimp on portion and are more than reasonable considering the quantity and quality. My wife and I decided to stop here on our travels. We really enjoyed the old town bar atmosphere. It was even great to see some of the locals walk in and greeted by the staff who knew them. 10 beers on tap. Nice and cold....& fresh. Loved that they had Yuengling Black & Tan on tap. Food was delicious. I included a photo of the homemade mozzarella sticks. These are some of the best I ever had. My Reuben sandwich was excellent. A big sandwich with a lot of corn beef. I barely finished it. My wife had the Chili. Very tasty. Not too hot at all with spice, which was perfect. The two ladies behind the bar were outstanding!! Super fast service. Super friendly. Made our visit that much better. This is not a sports bar with tv's everywhere. Sometimes it is nice to find a bar like this where you go to have a beer, a great meal and enjoy good company without a lot of distractions. Great crowd there too. Came in around 1 pm on a Saturday. It had quite a few people as we sat to order lots more people came in. First impression, it is a small place on the dive-y side as others have mentioned but it was clean. A couple tables/booths. We parked in the lot and went in through that door in which there were a couple stairs to walk up and into restaurant. The food was amazing. Service was great too. Friendly and on top of it. So for food we ordered mozzarella sticks as an appetizer. These were some of the most incredible mozzarella sticks I have ever had in my entire life. Mystery girl especially loved these. We ordered tenders and fries for the kids. I got the roast beef, mystery man the Reuben. We all enjoyed. I highly recommend and encourage you not to judge the place by the appearance, because the food is very good. The service was phenomenal too. Will certainly be back! Went to the Farmhouse last night after over 15 years and had a great experience. 2 friendly female server/bartenders. $1 drinks for happy hour (order before 6 PM) and delicious sweet potato fries with a sweet. maple mayo sauce. Wednesdays at 7 is Music Bingo. Is it fancy? No. But has it improved over the years? YES! A D-town institution for Pub Grub and Pints. I will be back - and I won't wait 15 more years. read more

Nice little pub with a cozy feeling. The menu is not very big but I think that's a good thing for a place this size. Keeps the kitchen moving, serving delicious food. It was lunchtime and the place was more that 3/4 filled, they had one waitress working. She was friendly and did a great job. The Clams Casino Cowder is outstanding! My wife had to stop me from licking the bowl(seriously). I had a burger that tasted like a steak, I give it 3 Mmmm's because I caught myself saying, "Mmmm," 3 times while eating. They must be using high-quality ground beef. Fries come with the burger, which is nice because most pubs I've been to you get chips and have to pay extra if you want Fries. I didn't know what to expect from Pub Fare on Easter Sunday afternoon, but when many restaurants were on waits or sold out of reservations, why not try a pub! In classic Irish Pub fashion, we were greeted with a Gaelic welcome mat in the parking lot entrance, and there were several men hunched over the bar- some for company and a drink, some just for lunch. We were asked to find a seat or table we liked, and along the way, I noticed the sandwiches in front of other people at the bar looked tasty enough to commit to the menu. The cooks did not disappoint with their spot on juicy but fully cooked chicken breast sandwich, and sliced roast beef that was definitely made better by pouring the AJ jus to be soaked into the bread. The audio atmosphere and environment was quite grim when we walked in with heavy metal playing, but since I noticed there was a TouchTunes jukebox on the wall, I decided to choose some blues and classic rock to help steer the vibes in a more positive direction. One man at the bar nearly protested and warned me without asking what I was looking for, as he recommended "Pink Floyd" as a choice, but I wasn't having any more dark side vibes- and instead brought on the Journey because I'm just a small town girl, living in a lonely world. I'll start by saying that the service was good but the positive ends there. We started off with an order of fried pickles. When the appetizer arrived, there was a decent amount of brown grease pooling on the plate. There was also an old burnt grease flavor to the pickles. On to sandwiches. My wife ordered a turkey Ruben which she said was very good. I wish I could say the same for my burger. I ordered the Limerick Burger. The burger itself was bland. The onions on the burger had the same burnt grease taste as the fried pickles. I entered the tavern looking forward to trying a new local place. Kind of a dive but the food is pretty good. I couldn't have a beer (with being pregnant and all), but I wasn't impressed by their beer list when I took a look. They have a few craft brews but not many. Go for a mixed drink if you're looking for something like that. The mozzarella sticks were huge and I couldn't finish them, but very filling and I would get it again. Also their fish and chips was done well, and I enjoyed the few bites I had. I do love places like this-no frills bar/restaurant type situations with great food and a divey atmosphere. The menu is what drew my friend and I in for an early dinner after spending the day sightseeing in cold weather...beef stew and turkey and stuffing sounded perfect. And it totally was. I was slightly disappointed that they did not have French onion soup on the menu since it looked so fabulous in the pictures here. But everything else more than made up for it. Nothing slaps like turkey and stuffing on a cold day and I was very happy with my choice. My friend enjoyed her Guinness beef stew but was slightly jealous of my delicious stuffing. Dinner was on point and the Irish coffee was great too. One waitress who also doubles as the bartender was a bit much, but everything else was great and I hope to get back here some day soon! read more

I can see why they won a Best of Bucks Entree award. This is your classic neighborhood bar, but with some absolutely delicious sandwiches and appetizers based on what my lunch companion and I tried this past Labor Day weekend. I had the Tex-Mex Wrap (hold the Chili) while my lunch date had the Balsamic Chicken Flatbread. We shared the Pretzel appetizer (ample for two people). All was outstanding, and we asked ourselves why we didn't come here more often since we're locals. I also had a Lemonade - possibly one of the best I've ever had. That said, the bartender on this Labor Day also was the single server in the place. To say she was busy would be an understatement. She was kept on the run, and socializing was friendly, but kept to a bare minimum out of necessity for her. It did mean we had to wait a heartbeat or two longer than one might like, but under the circumstances it was completely reasonable, and, it was a dining experience; no one died. There are worse things. If I had to be critical at all, it would be the fact that the place is a little shabby. Possibly part of its charm, but the place is definitely in need of being updated from it's 1980s decor and slightly shabby dining area paint-job (meant to bring the place from 1980s to maybe the mid-1990s). Also, the bevelled wall and ceiling mirrors that bedazzle the stairway entry from the parking lot leading to the bar entry is a little jarring at first, and gives the impression you might expect a pole dancer upon reaching the stairway's summit. But the criticism of the decor and this one day's less than lightening-fast service is minor when you consider the staff seems happy to be there (and they know the locals by name), the food is very tasty and the prices are extremely reasonable. Think a slightly shabby Cheers, with a really good menu and a totally local vibe. We'll definitely be back, though we'll avoid the mirrored stairway and use the Main Street entrance. read more

Just got back from my first time at this tiny little pub. I already called up my mom to recommend going here because our experience was so great. Food was delicious (we got burgers with fries and Buffalo chicken dip and chips) and I left feeling super full but deep down wanting to keep eating lmao It's a really small place but that's part of why I like it so much; it has that locals bar type feel. We were traveling, and looking for a place in the the greater Doylestown area for some dinner and a few drinks. We settled on this restaurant due to the Yelp recommendation and proximity of one mile to where we were. The staff was really sensational. We sat at the bar and were greeted warmly and were well attended to during our experience. We even made friends with a few locals at the bar who were simply awesome. This seems like our kinda joint. We ordered soft pretzel sticks and beer cheese to start. The beer cheese was rich and delicious like it should be. Three pretzel sticks and cheese was $11.00, yikes! I should have taken a better look at the menu prices. Be prepared to open you pocket book here. I got a cup of clams casino soup. It was tremendous and loaded with clams and great flavor. $8.00 for a cup of soup! My wife had a chicken club sandwich that looked really nice and she could only finish half. I ordered fish and chips, which had a nice batter. The fish was a little bland, for my personal taste. The house made tarter sauce was good, just too sweet for my taste. I opted for malt vinegar and salt. I had two draft beers, and my wife had a specialty cocktail and a few beers. We really enjoyed the place and the company at the bar. Food was well above average. Service was excellent. My only negative was the outrageous prices. I understand everything costs more these days, but $8 for a cup of clam chowder was remarkable. read more

I would suggest that you don't go here on a Friday night when they have entertainment. My husband and I frequent this Tavern and usually the food is ok and the service good. We arrived around 7:15 and sat at the bar. We wanted a quick bite to eat and we were hungry. I ordered a burger cooked medium. My husband a cheesesteak. We waited almost 40 minutes for the food to come out and my burger was so rare it had bleed all over the bun and my fries. It was disgusting. Meanwhile the band started to play and they weren't too good. I felt stuck to listen to bad music and enjoy my bloody burger. It wasn't the night I had planned. I tried to get the bartenders attention but it was so busy the bartender was more interested in serving drinks to the new arrivals obviously the band groupies that were pushing against me as I tried to eat than to worry about whether I liked my food. I was so hungry that I ate around the edges where it was cooked more. My husbands cheesesteak was over cooked and dry. Bad food, bad service, and bad entertainment. We won't rush back. Be aware that the tent shown in the photos no longer exists, but they do have two umbrella tables out front in a nice shady spot. We had attentive service outside, even though our server was tending bar at the same time. I had the fish and chips and it was very good - the fish had a thin light and crisp batter coating, the fries were really good. First and only visit was in February 2019, but when I move to Doylestown in the Fall I can see myself here fairly often! We stopped in for a somewhat lateish dinner on a Sunday night and were seated quickly even though the restaurant and bar was full of friendly locals. They had an extensive and unique "specials" menu, especially for a bar, you can tell that the chefs there really care about the food they are making. I got the "Thanksgiving dinner" (hot roast turkey + sides) which came out quickly and everything was homemade and quite tasty. My favorite thing that anyone at our table ordered was the French Onion Soup, very flavorful and piping hot, just as you would want in February in Southeast PA! Service was fast and friendly, definitely will make this place a regular favorite once I return! read more
